a stack of unsolicited manuscripts that have been sent to a publishing company for consideration.
A bully getting his comeuppance, a couple going through a sexual re-awakening getting into a nasty car wreck, a book reviewer encountering an author dead set on good reviews, a support group with a different method for coping with trauma, a horrific twist on an old nursery rhyme, and more...
Dig through the slush Pile and lose yourself in a series of stories of psychological horror, quiet horror, gore, and the extreme from the author of ‘They Come From Within’ and ‘rural decay’.
I got the privilege to receive an arc of this from Jason Nickey. And let me tell you this is another absolute banger of a collection from Jason. 12 short stories that are all exceptionally unique. There was not one story in this collection that I did not enjoy. Jason writes with such a diversity that there is something for everyone in each of his collections. From group therapy, deranged kids ,dates gone wrong, A family coming to truths All the way to lot lizards and more. This is a collection that should not be missed nor should any of Nickey’s books. Coming in July !
There's a few stories in here I bloody loved and a few I wasn't fussed for. On a whole it's a really enjoyable collection of stories that will have something to entertain any EH reader!
Brilliant collection of short stories that includes a little bit of everything. From the paranormal to the most vile and nasty.
When I normally read a short story collection, there’s normally at least one or two ‘dud’ stories that I have to push myself through…but this was wonderful! I enjoyed every single story.
Another great collection by Nickey. A collection of 12 stories that offer a wide range of variety. My favorite 3 stories were Rocks, Group Therapy, and #Bookrecs.
Short story collections have become some of my favorite books to read this year. I was always a full length novel gal, but after reading some collections, I love them. This one especially. 🫶🏼
In Slush Pile, Jason provides us with 12 amazing short stories. Normally I would review them one by one but honestly, they’re all SOO incredible that it would take me a decade to say everything I wanted. I do however want to highlight one story, Group Therapy, as I really think this might be my favorite short story he’s ever written. 🙌🏼
Group Therapy is the first story in the collection and I can’t rave about it enough. It has a relatable factor that I think EVERYONE can attest to. But in a nutshell, what would you do if group therapy wasn’t working so you decided to start your own group therapy with a few other people who also felt the same and went through similar f*cked up experiences?! 👀 Would you guys just chill by the campfire and sing songs OR would you seek revenge on those who have scorned you?! Find yourself reading what feels like a vigilante warpath with some solid body horror and unhinged torture. 🤌🏼 Beyond that, this story really is a DEEP one. It’s a heavy hitter for sure and I’d love to see it get more hype. Plus there’s some solid gag worthy moments. 😂
“…squeezed the bag, filling his mouth with liquid shit like a chocolate Capri-Sun.” 😭🤮
Anyway. This whole book is incredible and I really do recommend it to all because there’s something for everyone in it. Oh and it’s available on KU, plus the cover is top tier. SOO please go grab this book and then beg Jason to expand on Group Therapy because I’m a brat and want more, and I know everyone who reads it will too!
Quite r*pey and includes graphic depictions genital mutilation and assault of a minor. Abandoned about 50% of the way through. I was hoping the rapiness was a storytelling device isolated to a couple of stories, but it felt more like a theme with this collection. Even if the victim was written to be "deserving" it's not my personal cuppa tea. If you're into torture gorn I guess this is for you!
One funny note: one of the stories has the MC give her address out to someone and is supremely surprised that she gets stalked. She says, "How did he even know where I live?"
A fantastic collection of short stories by someone to watch for in extreme horror. Each story was really unique, with a few standouts like Group Therapy. Nickey keeps things fact-paced and snappy throughout. This is an excellent collection of extreme horror shorts. If you are not into extreme gore and brutality, I would not recommend this one. But if that is right up your alley, you should give this one a shot if you like shorts collections.
Jason is back again with another stellar collection of 12 stories to send you on a tidal wave of emotions. You should not miss his top-notch short fiction. Just when you think he can't get any better, he surprises you with tales that you won't soon forget. He is without a doubt one of the best writers in the genre. If you aren't reading his stuff, you are seriously doing yourself a disservice.
There is one story in the collection that completely rocked my world. I'm not going to say which one, but wow, it knocked my socks off.
Stop, drop, grab yourself a copy, and enjoy the ride. It's well worth taking.
As always, a GREAT read! Jason Nickey has done it again! This treasure trove of short stories touches just about every sub genre of horror, from suspense, to supernatural, to downright nasty. I loved every page!
Most of these stories are great! The author though seems to be obsessed with d!ck because its in every story whether it was suppose to be extreme or not . advice ..leave the d!ck out next time..
Really enjoyed these! There’s one I did end up skipping because it gave me MAJOR ick - being a lesbian explains a lot as to why it was too much for me. 😅
Jason Nickey has become one of my " Must read" authors anytime he releases a new book and this new collection of short stories does not disappoint! If you're a fan of extreme horror you will totally enjoy this little collection of twisted tales. It has some of the vilest, most violent, depraved, sexually explicit, short stories I've ever read and I freaking loved it!!! Rapists, serial killers, cryptids and other horrors abound here It's kind of the literary equivalent of finding a run over possum and watching the maggots boil when you poke it with a stick
