From the basics to the advanced, from South American lineage shamans to home-grown New World facilitators, the Gringo's Guide provides a solid framework for anyone looking to understand this medicine from a North American perspective.
Filled with first-hand experiences of healing and transformation, this guide also offers information from scientific studies about Ayahuasca, its use for trauma and addiction recovery, who should or should not take Ayahuasca, safety advice, best practices from Ayahuasca professionals as well as helpful resources, empathy and understanding.
"I've sat with lineage Shipibo shamans in Peru and I've personally participated in the emergence of an incredible New World shaman in Canada," Finney said. "I've also undergone my own healing process from Dissociative Disorder."
Mr. Finney is the founder of AyahuascaCanada and the Companionship of the Sacred Vine which provides legal

Why I Wrote The Gringo's Guide

People have all kinds of expectations and ideas about Ayahuasca. I regularly field questions about Ayahuasca from people new to the medicine, and I also work with experienced facilitators, researchers and others who often have decades of experience. What I’ve attempted to do with The Gringo’s Guide is bridge these viewpoints and provide a practical orientation for people looking to do plant medicine work.
This guide answers a lot of the first-time questions and concerns posed by people who are involved or want to become involved with this medicine. And it also explores the many questions, topics and themes common to the medicine, how Ayahuasca is used, her facilitators and more. I’ve also offered information from scientific studies, Ayahuasca’s use for trauma and addiction recovery, who should or should not take Ayahuasca, safety advice and best practices, as well as helpful resources, empathy and understanding.
Ayahuasca work is all about getting to a place of self-forgiveness and self-love. Ayahuasca, if you let her, will help you get rid of fear so that you have more capacity to be in the here and now and appreciate what’s in front of you. When fear is gone, there’s so much more room for love. Love for the people in your life, love for the earth. The end of fear is the end of suffering.
At the time of writing The Gringo's Guide, I have worked with this medicine for the past eight years. To say Ayahuasca has had an enormously positive impact on my life would be a huge understatement.
And finally please keep in mind that this book is written from my own cultural and experiential biases. I’m not pretending that this work is the definitive word on anything. However, if my experiences with Ayahuasca can be of use to you, then I’ll consider my efforts in creating the Gringo’s Guide to be a job well done. I wish you all the best in your plant medicine journey and I hope you find the healing that you're looking for,

- Allan Finney
