Jedi Knight Reath Silas and Jedi Padawan Amadeo Azzazzo are charged with delving into the Jedi Archives to learn more about the mysterious Echo Stones and their Force-amplifying powers. In their search, they uncover the dark legend of the ancient Sith Lord, Darth Ravi, and his quest to solve an ancient puzzle that could grant him power beyond imagining... or destroy him utterly. • Written by bestselling author George Mann, the writer behind Star The High Republic Adventures--The Nameless Terror and Star The High Republic--The Battle of Jedha.

“Darth Ravi lived in an age now almost lost to history, when the Sith were still emergent and yet to make their true mark upon the galaxy. It was a time of conquest, when whole worlds were ripe for the taking, if one had a mind for such things and the power to enact them."
Jedi Knight Reath Silas has found an old recording in the Jedi Archives that might help them find the Rod of Ages and make sense of the power that Marchion Ro wields to control the Nameless. He sets upon investigating this mystery with Padawan Amadeo Azzazzo.
This issue was a whole lot of fun. First of all, before I forget, I must mention just how beautiful the artwork was, especially when depicting this legend of Darth Ravi. The swirly patterns, the bold colors and the fever dream like quality of the pictures... So good, so atmospheric. My one gripe with the art was that for some reason Reath looked way older than he is supposed to be, but that's a small complaint when the art was, overall, stunning. The premise of this series is also great fun, as I am always ready to get to know weird legends and stories from different cultures and planets. Fairytales and myths within the SW universe is George Mann's speciality, so it's fun to see him get to do that once again. The story of Darth Ravi felt like such a classic fairytale - a cautionary tale about the dangers of greed, violence and single-minded ambition – but one with a SW twist.
I love my sweet nerdy boy Reath and it's fun getting a story that centres him. He is still his geeky, archive-loving self and I like how now his familiarity with the archives and his passion for research is really coming in handy and playing a vital role in defeating the Nameless. Yes, he has learned to embrace impulsivity and be out on the field, but this is what he does best and this is where he can be of most help. As a geeky researcher, I relate to him with a passion. Also, this was such a small thing, but him running past Vernestra and yelling "No time! We’re on a mission!” and leaving Amadeo to mumble apologies to Master Rwoh was such a fun moment. You can see that Vernestra and Reath are good friends, because I don't think someone as dutiful and respectful as Reath would've blown past her otherwise.
Amadeo is a cutie pie, even though I don't know that much about him. He has popped up in a few stories but there's only been one story so far - one of the short tales in Tales of Light and Life - that focused on him. I wanna get to know him better, and I hope, in this series, we get more glimpses into who he is as a person.
I am very excited for issue 2 and to see where Mann takes this series!
this was an amazing issue. i’m so happy to see reath again and to see him work with amadeo, i think they will make an incredible team in tears of the nameless. i’m also VERY excited about these comics (and the book) because i feel we are finally getting some long awaited answers! plus, the artwork in this comic was GORGEOUS. i believe this is the most beautiful comic i have ever read
Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures: Echoes of Fear #1 | Comic Review
One of my favorite aspects of the high Republic publishing initiative from Lucasfilm has been the comic miniseries that we have gotten over the last several years. With the release of Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures: Echoes of Fear # 1, were diving into another mystery to help solve/understand the Jedi problem known as the Nameless.
I loved when Reath Silas was introduced and he talked about how he loved being at the Jedi Temple in Coruscant doing research instead of being out in the field. It was such a stark contrast to what we’re used to with Jedi who crave adventure.
Unraveling the mystery surrounding the Nameless is going to be key to the final phase of the entire High Republic publishing initiative. I love that we are using knowledge for an ancient Jedi to get there.
The many different things that came together for them to learn about the echo stones in this book was great. It’s a story being told by a member of an extinct religion, about an ancient Sith Lord, that is recorded on one of the oldest holocrons in the Jedi Temple. 🤌 Perfect.
I’m very excited to see where the story goes in this miniseries. I love this aspect of the High Republic, and I can’t wait for more.
Though the story told here is pretty simplistic and predictable in concept, the art is absolutely gorgeous and it’s a joy to see a Sith Lord in action.
George Mann is really great at writing these myth like stories in Star Wars. I think this is going to be a really fun little series that shows us some cool stories from the Jedi archives, and it seems like it will tie in well to Tears of the Nameless.
Incredible issue! I love fairy tales and fables, and George Mann *literally* wrote the book on Star Wars fables. We get another one here in this issue! It’s a really cool story about an ancient Sith Lord used to help steer younglings from the dark side and I could see it being pretty effective during story time if I was a youngling in the Jedi temple! Personally, I love learning about new Sith so I was very into the narrative. Also, Reath Silas is one of my favorite High Republic characters so I was hooked from the start ready for whatever adventure he had for us!
