Loved the book, well written, as I’ve come to expect from the books I’ve read by Fiona Tarr. A good introduction to a new series, which I am impatiently waiting to read.
Introductory novella to the Dawn Graves series. Detectives Dawn Grave and Jack Cunningham are off to a Kangaroo Island to investigate the suicide/murder of Jonathon Pembroke an 18 year old. Penny McGregor, the forensic tech, has notified them that something seems “off”. This is eerily close to home for Dawn bringing back memories of similarities to her brother’s death.
Things are strange at the local police department also. Who can they trust? Are drugs involved. Is this a coverup? The work environment where Jonathon was found does not seem appropriate. Nude pictures of Page Goldsmith, one of the owners, hang on the walls.
Jack and Dawn find themselves in a sticky situation and unexpected help arrives to the rescue. Good group of good and bad characters. Interesting story with danger and intrigue.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving this review. .
Grave Doubt, my tenth read from author Fiona Tarr. Tarr has become one of my go-to authors! If I'd have read this book before reading Grave Regret: An Australian Small Town Crime Mystery (Dawn Grave Book 1) I'd have fallen in love with Dawn Graves even earlier. Maybe Tarr's best character to date. “I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. Grave Intent: An Australian Small Town Crime Novel (Dawn Grave Book 2) due out on November 30 has just moved up my TBR list. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
This is the prequel to the Dawn Grave series. Dawn is a detective that will definitely investigate a crime until she gets all guilty parties in court. Dawn and her partner Jack are on kangaroo Island to investigate a murder of a young man. This investigation involves corruption, drugs, nepotism, and a lot of secrets. I’ve already read the first two books in the series and I’m looking forward to the third book.
This novella is set on Kangaroo Island at the bottom of South Australia.
When forensic technician Penny McGregor asks for help with an investigation into a suspected suicide which she suspects is murder, Detectives Dawn Grave and Jack Cunningham are sent to investigate.
This is a prequel to a new murder mystery series from Fiona Tarr. Detective Dawn Grave was briefly introduced in the Outback Opal series. Here we get to meet Dawn in her workplace a possible murder on Kangaroo Island in South Australia. Just getting there on the rough ferry ride, gets you into the mood for this book. And Fiona builds an interesting picture of detective Grave. The plot keeps you turning pages and by the end you want to learn more about this new Detective character. I enjoyed the new characters and the mystery of who dunnit and why. The book is fast paced while building up new characters. I had to go back and reread several sections as the story made me skip ahead, always a good sign that I am enjoying the story. If you like a fastpaced story mystery and complex characters you might like to try this.
