Indigo Easton, owner of Brooms that Vroom, is a witch with secrets. There are reasons why she rarely dates and has decided marriage and a traditional family isn’t for her. But when the sexy Niko Diaz, a fling from a past vacation, walks into her town and is determined to make her his, she’s not sure she can resist him. Just as she’s letting her guard down, dangerous potions go missing from the local apothecary, and Indigo is the main suspect. Now she has to prove her innocence and somehow keep her secrets hidden or she risks losing everything, including the man who just might be the love of her life.
Niko Diaz, an agent with the Magical Task Force, has always been a bit of an outsider. With the last of his family gone, he’s settled in Befana Bay near his two best friends and the woman that he’s never forgotten. After just one weekend together, Niko knew Indigo Easton was the one for him and is determined to win her heart. But when he’s assigned to a cold case that points to her as the main suspect, he has no choice but to prove her innocence because there’s no way he’s going to be the one to take down the only woman he’s ever loved.
Deanna is a native Californian, transplanted to the slower paced lifestyle of southeastern Louisiana. When she isn't writing, she is often goofing off with her husband in New Orleans, playing with her two shih tzu dogs, making glass beads, or out hocking her wares at various bead shows across the country. Indigo Easton owns Brooms that Vroom, which is all she needs. Because of an unfortunate incident with law enforcement from her past, she has no desire to date nor marry anyone in that profession. But that doesn’t stop Niko Morales, an investigator for the Magical Task Force, from showing up in town and wanting to claim her as his own! If he knew about her past, she was sure that situation would abruptly change. And even if he was okay with it, it could ruin his career. Besides, Indigo hardly knew Niko except for that one fantastic night together in Florida; and even that was before she knew he was an agent. She just didn’t see how dating him could turn out well.
As if thinking about it makes it happen, Niko is assigned a cold case involving a young woman who appeared to be under a trance-like compulsion to rob 5 convenience stores in one night until she was shot in the abdomen by security, still trying to demand the cash until she died from her wound! But right before her death, she said they needed to find Indigo Easton! Niko had never looked up the details of the case even when Indigo told him there was a file on her. But he really needed to hear the details from her now with this cold case assigned to him, especially since the victim had burn marks on her arms in the shape of daggers -- and she was Indigo’s roommate! Will Niko decide to prove Indigo was innocent and someone had stolen the compulsion spell that controlled Indigo’s roommate back then, and seems to be showing up again now? Or does he already have someone in mind who might be involved?
Once again, this author pulls the reader right into her fascinating story populated by characters the reader will actually care about! Emotions are heightened as the reader is drawn deeper into the pages to see what will happen next! As it seems with all of the author’s wonderful books, this one will capture your attention as well and you absolutely won’t want to miss it!
I love the Bafana Bay series because they are darker and more gritty than a regular cozy series. Indigo has a dark background she is trying to get past. Niko won't give up on Indigo and wants to work through Indigo's problems - if he only knew what they were. They have to work together and learn to trust each other. The attraction and passion are there - no doubt about that. Now all the troublesome characters from Indigo's past need to be dealt with for their happy ever after to happen.
Lots of twists, turns, who dunnits...I felt like I was reading a Scooby Doo mystery in the college years in some parts and I love Scooby Doo Mysteties to this day!
This is another fantastic book in the Witches of Befana Bay Series. This is Indigo Easton's story. Indigo is the owner of Brooms that Vroom. She is also interested in Niko, but has convinced herself that it would not work between them. Niko Diaz is part of the Magical Task Force, and he likes Indigo a lot, but she wants nothing to do with him. This book is filled with intrigue, mystery, and romance. There is magic and mayhem, which the author ties together nicely. We find that both Indigo and Niko have back stories that are not staying buried. Together, they tackle unsettled past events that are resurfacing in a most unsettling fashion. It appears that Indigo's past will not remain hidden, and only with Niko's help will she be able to overcome it.
I love returning to the world of Witches of Befana Bay. I love how each story can be read as a stand alone and follows a new couple in each story. The third installment follows Indigo and Niko. I really enjoyed the plot in this one. Learning more about Indigo’s past was really intriguing and the mystery surrounding the dangerous magic was great. The narrator, Gabra Zackman is a narrator I have come to adore. Her tones and inflections were done well, and I was easily able to distinguish the main characters and several characters in the story. This one was filled with lots of twists, romance, and perfect for lovers who enjoy a cozy magical read.
A very special thanks to the author for the gifted ALC.
I’ve been reading this author for quite a while, and the witchy series she has is always a delight. I always know what I’m getting from her, which is a wonderful thing when you feel in a book slump. This latest has Indigo still suffering from events in her past, and she isn’t sure she wants to date man from law enforcement that brings those events to the forefront…and then he gets involved in a case related to that past. I was captivated from the beginning, and even if I pretty much guessed about what was going on, it was still a great read. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Deanna Chase has done it again! A 5-star rating that I wish I could do a million-star rating. This I believe is the best book of the series. I absolutely loved it.
Indigo and Niko's story was amazing. I'm not one to talk about the plot of the story you can read the synopsis and to find out what the book is about. I will tell you one thing once you read a book by Deanna Chase be ready to buy all of her books because she is a phenomenal writer. I have read all of her witch books and have fallen in love with them. It's nothing for me to finish a book by the author within 48 hours of picking it up. And can I just say that I am now wanting to live in Bafana Bay. Yes, I know it is a fictional town but I have said this will all of the authors books. Keating Hollow, Christmas Grove, and now Bafana Bay, I want to live in each town. Just put a bed in a closet at the closed library in Bafana Bay because I would never want to leave it. I would love to be in the author's head as she puts a story together and comes up with the greatest stores or library ideas.
The characters were amazing, and I really had a lot of emotions while reading. The chemistry between Indigo and Niko was sultry. But Indigo has that one clause that she doesn't date cops. Hmmm will this change or will Indigo give in to temptation? You will just have to read the book to find out.
I HIGHLY recommend "The Witch's Lost Spell" and the first two books in the series. If you like witchy books then these books are for you! Run to your nearest bookstore, library or computer and get Deanna's books. You won't regret it!
The Witch's Lost Spell by Deanna Chase, pub April 2025, Review July 2025 5 stars Niko & Indigo
They had a minute together. When he returned, he wanted more. She may have wanted more, but vowed never to be involved with law enforcement again. Maybe a casual outing that turned out to be too much.
As their lives go on, they try to stay apart. However, magic—bad magic—enters their lives. Working together seems inevitable. Will they find the culprits? If they do, can they handle the situation?
Danger. Steam. Family. Great characters. Magical world. A good one you need to read.
Indigo and Niko what a couple!!!! What a story!!! I love going to any town of Deanna Chase’s but Befana Bay is becoming a fast favourite. I love when the witches take to the water. I love how this magical community is growing it’s all kinds of amazing. This story was thrillingly romantic and full of magic. Will Indigo give into Niki’s pull even though he is law enforcement???? Will Niko give up and walk away especially when he learns about Indigo’s past??? The twists and turns in this story kept me guessing.
After a while with a long series, you would think the premise would be stale, but not with this series. Each book is a fresh new story.
This is Indigo and Niko’s book. She is a store owner and he is in law enforcement. Indigo had a bad brush with law enforcement and while she finds Niko attractive, she is not sure she wants to get involved with him. I love Niko’s persistence in his pursuit of Indigo.
This is a story of a stolen spell, a bit of a twist and good triumphing over evil. Great story.
Such a great story! I fell in love with Indigo and Niko's story! So much intrigue mixed with magic, laughter, and love. Indigo stuggles to not only use her magic to her full potential, but to trust a law enforcement officer again. Niko believes that Indigo is innocent and is determine to prove it. While each Witch's of Befana Bay book is a standalone, it is definitely better to read them in order as previous couples will visit in later books. Gabra Zackman never disappoints as narrator! She brings the story to life so that you feel that you're right in the middle of it.
Cozy Magic and Heartfelt Romance: The Witch’s Lost Spell Delivers
"The Witch’s Lost Spell" is another charming hit in Deanna Chase’s Befana Bay series. With layered characters and a twisty, satisfying plot, it pulls you in and doesn’t let go. Indigo and Niko’s love story is full of heart, and even with a bustling cast and several side threads, Chase keeps it all clear, compelling, and fun. If you’re craving cozy magic with real emotional depth, this one delivers.
What a return to Befana Bay! A bookstore, a mystery and an uninterrupted afternoon to soak it all in! It was a lovely read with enough magic, mystery and romance to keep you entertained!
If you haven’t started the series already, what are you waiting for????? Now, starting with the Witch’s Lost Spell will not spoil or give anything away - so don’t hesitate to start with this one - you will want to dive into the residents stories.
This series is about sisters, each story highlights one but includes them all. Indigo is the one who looks the most different and also the one who tries to dim her skills, seemingly. I love the mystery of this one, the banter between characters, and the growth of Indigo. The characters and setting are so believable, I feel like I could walk right into town, and witness all the magic for myself. I can't wait for Prim's story next!
Lots of twists and turns in this paranormal romance story! The audiobook is filled with mystery, intrigue, and romance making for an entertaining and interesting listen. The characters are likable and relatable. This book will capture your attention right from the start. The narration was also well done. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Indigo and Niko are a match made in heaven. That one night in Florida was a distant memory but they quickly rekindled the love and passion. It was fun to see the growth in Indigo, she was already strong to begin with, but finally getting closure in her past made her that much more confident. The newest must read for Befana Bay!

Love MS Chase's series. This is a favorite as her series as her series have strong female lead characters. This has a Family of strong females. I love the character development and the adversaries the characters face as they meet their life partners. While also solving a mystery. This was a page turner.
I love all of Deanna Chase's books, and this one is no different. Going back into Befana Bay felt like going home. Both the continuity with the first two books and the world building for this book were outstanding. Indigo and Niko's story was well written and I found myself rooting for them from the very beginning. I've already pre-ordered book four and can't wait for it to come out!
I loved Indigo and Niko’s story! It was really hard not to read in one sitting, but I wanted to take my time and enjoy every minute of reading this book. One of the things I love most about this series is the incredible bond that the Easton sisters share with one another. I can’t stress this enough but Witches of Befana Bay series is a must read!
These are incredibly sweet and easy reads. Deanna Chase writes about everyday life with a twist of magic. The characters are lovable and the stories are page turners. I've read just about all her books and I love everyone. My favorite series was the first I read, the witches of Christmas Grove. I am hoping she will make a motion picture...
This books storyline is, a well-crafted world, and intense characters. These characters have unique personalities, complicated histories and good interactions. I can't wait to read more. I received this book as a Free ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
I don’t know how Deanna does it but this series just keeps getting better and better. Not that the other books weren’t amazing, it’s just that I get most invested with each book.
I loved the Indigo and Niko story line. A mistake from her past that ruined her, a vengeful ex and a crime trying to be blamed on her is a fantastic story. I had a hard time putting it down. You will love the Witches of Befana Bay. This is a must read book.
A wonderfully crafted book about finding love when you least expect it. The family interactions, the caring relationships and well told story totally pulled me in!
This was a fast moving story. Good characters, strong witches, and a man who believed in his woman and stood by her thru everything. Looking forward to the next sister’s story
Indigo and Niko’s story will keep you guessing for sure. They are very interesting characters Indigo is a little badge shy and for good reason but Niko doesn’t stop trying. A must read 📖📖📖📖📖
I found Niko and Indigo very likeable and the story had a number of twists such that, while I had an idea, I didn’t fully figure out the villain. Love the sister support.
This is a terrific story. Not only will the intriguing characters draw you in but, the world building, settings and plot will have you wanting more. I look forward to reading what comes next.
Indigo and Niko...the new power couple of Befana Bay. This series draws you in, the settings, the scenery, the characters..they just get better with each book.
