Guinea pigs are such a popular pet for elementary school students. This title which is part of the Natures Children series, contains unique details seldom mentioned. Guinea pigs have 20 teeth, which is hard to believe when only 2 top and 2 bottom ones show inside their mouths. Large colorful pictures of adorable guinea pig photos appear on each double spread of pages. The breed called texel, features a guinea pig with crimped, fluffy hair, giving a sophisticated styled look to the cavy. The American Cavy Association officially recognizes 13 breeds altogether. New terms such as "popcorning" describe the high springy jump that displays their excitement and happiness. This well written informational non-fiction text has a map showing areas where guinea pigs live, glossary, index, and bibliography. The adorable picture of a baby guinea pig "popcorning" in the grass on the cover, guarantees this title won't remain on the shelf for long.

This is a decent book for children about guinea pigs that people can own as pets and sometimes are used as subjects for scientific studies. My only complaint is the lack of information about their wild relatives and their ecological standing.

This book was pretty educational for people wanting to know what Guinea pigs are about, and what care they need. However it did not go into to much detail so if you want to know more details about Guinea pigs, find another book.

This is an interesting book about guinea pigs. It made me want to get one, but it also cautioned against getting one without awareness of the responsibility involved!
