Marmaduke Pickthall's translation is the first English translation written by a Muslim whose first language was English. It's an interesting piece of history in that sense, and an admirable effort, mashaaAllah. This was the sixth Qur'aan translation I've read. I'm always interested in seeing what different translators focus on. In Pickthall's case, I'm not sure if this was really his focus or if it's just what stood out to me because I've been through a lot of inexplicable things in the past year, but it looked to me like his focus was on the limitlessness of Allah's power. There's no footnotes in this translation so it's hard to truly get in his head, but I imagine that topic might have been of interest to him as a contrast to his Christian background.

This translation felt fairly standard to me; it didn't particularly stand out compared with other translations I've read, and with its archaic language this wouldn't be the first or even the second translation I'd recommend to someone who hasn't read one before.
