The book contains 15 chapters, including, The Origin of the Promise, Meaning of the Promise, Historicity of the Promise, How the Promise is Kept, Scapular Prayer and Communication of Benefits, and much more. This is the most complete book on the subject we have seen. It gives many examples of the powerful protection one gets from the Scapular and that protection is in great need today.
A book originally written in 1942, the writing style of Haffert's book is very different from the spiritual literature of today. Nevertheless, I found I was able to connect with and gain much from this reading, personally and spiritually.
It is a fairly comprehensive (if somewhat repetitive) overview of the Brown Scapular, its origins, its benefits, and its spirituality. Glad to come out of this reading with stronger Marian devotion, at the very least.
For a book that was written about 80 years ago, it wasn't hard to connect with. It was informative and allowed me to learn quite a few new things. I have a stronger understanding of what the scapular is all about and a deeper desire to take part in it. While there are more up to date resources out there, this book is a good source to turn to in order to learn about the scapular.
