HER
I met him the night everything went wrong.
One car crash. One ruined dream.
And one dangerously hot stranger who offered to fix it all, with a contract.

Tennessee Black wasn’t just rich and charming.
He was a walking warning magnetic, controlling, and hiding something.

We made a deal.
One that pulled me into his world of secrets, shadows, and desire I couldn’t unsee.

What started as an accident became a contract.
What started as a contract became obsession.
What started as obsession became a haunting.

Then he disappeared.
No goodbye. No explanation.
Just silence… and the mess he left behind.

Now he’s back.
Still too smooth. Still too dangerous.
And refusing to explain why he broke my heart.

HIM
She thinks I’m the villain. And maybe I am.

I told myself I’d keep my distance after I ended things.
I lied.

She thinks I left.
But I was never gone.
I’ve been watching. Waiting. Wanting.
And now that I know what life without her feels like, I refuse to go back.

She still doesn’t know the truth about what happened that night.
Or why I had to disappear.

But one thing’s for
She was never just a deal.
She’s mine.
And I’ll burn down everything in my way to prove it.

TWO LIES AND A FIRE is a dark romance psychological thriller.

Second chance.
Enemies to lovers.
Forced proximity.
Age gap.

Author’s
Two Lies and a Fire stands alone, but reading Capturing King first adds a few exciting layers.

*It doesn’t end in a cliffhanger, but it’s not your typical happily ever after either.

For readers 18+ only. Detailed content warnings are available in the first part of the book.

I can't fully put into words how much I enjoyed this book. This book has so many plot twists that you're constantly changing your opinion of what's real or what's fake. One minute I wanted to hug Olive the next I wanted to shake her and ask her what is she thinking. Tennessee can do no wrong in my eyes. Everything he did was to protect her and show her how much he loved her. The ENDING left me craving more of their story and their dark and twisted love story

Honestly, the ending was EVERYTHING. 4.25/5!

The only reason I didn't give this a 5 star is because at some points, I was over Olive being SO goddamn trite all the time!!

This was my first time reading a book inside the "dark romance" category, and it did not disappoint. Carmen Kane has a beautiful way of writing from the dual POV, and throughout my reading journey, I found the voices of the characters distinct and their plights well crafted. I'm also a sucker for an enemies to lovers trope and I'm very much into themes / concepts that challenge our beliefs and attachments to sex, relationships, fantasy and the supernatural, so our author knows what she's doing.

I'm also usually not a big fan of smut, but the spice in here is just SPICING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The tension between the two felt real and pulsating, so by the time they were at it AGAIN, and AGAIN, i was THERE with them. Very sexy, very hot! (Again, if you're not into themes of dom/sub, being watched, forced etc, you will not like this).

Other than that, super easy read and digestible material. This book got me out of my reading slump and can't wait for more from this author!!!

Phewwwww!!!! If you enjoy dark romances and thrillers, this is the book for you. It is literally the perfect combo of the tube. It had me on the edge of my seat, but also literally sweating at times🥵
First off, I read Carmen Kane’s debut novel, maybe like a year or two ago and I absolutely loved it. I thought the writing was amazing and I was blown away to find out that it was an indie debut and my opinion holds true after reading this one. I thought this book was so good!! the writing style was so captivating and flowed so easy I found myself getting really drawn into the world and the characters. It was definitely immersive and honestly just a fun read!!
this book has so many plot, twists, and almost like plot holes that you found yourself constantly guessing what’s real and what’s fake. I constantly found myself thinking I knew exactly what was going on and then thinking I was completely wrong the next page.
I loveddd the dual POV I thought both olive and Tennessee had such a distinct tone and you could hear their voice through their chapters. Honestly, really liked both of them as me characters while they did both drive me crazy at times and I literally wanted to shake them, I still found myself rooting for them. Also let me say the spice in this book, WOW. like wow. I read some of this on a roadtrip and let me just say I was sweatingggg hahahah
ALSO THE ENDING?????!!!!!!! I- I honestly don’t even know what words I could type to put my thoughts about the ending into words. This book was a crazy ride from the beginning but the ending had my brain exploding. Wow.
Overall, I’m a huge Carmen Kane fan. I love her writing style, I love the character and stories she creates, they feel so real and palpable to me. I highly recommend this book, it is technically a second book in an interconnected series series, and while you don’t need to read the first book before reading this one, I personally loved the first book, Capturing King and would also definitely recommend that one as well!

*Thank you Carmen Kane for allowing me to be a beta reader for this wonderful story. All opinions above are 100% my own!*

Olive and Tennessee's relationship is like oil and water through most of the book. The spice was spicing though lol.

The ending clears the way for book 2!

Tennessee Black and Olive Renault, their story had me in a chokehold. I really liked their story. I wish to read this again soon. I recommend anyone reading this if you like these types of tropes.

Despite the chaos, I couldn’t stop reading. It’s like watching a train wreck: horrifying, but you can’t look away. And while the drama sometimes veers into the ridiculous, it’s also wildly entertaining.

Many thanks to Carman Kane for an eARC in exchange for my honest review💚

So, out the gate, I don’t like Tennessee and Olive (read Carmen’s first book, Capturing King, to get a glimpse of them and why they ain’t shit). That is a hard thing to get over, especially for a grudge-holding mfer like me. Reading the description and Carmen’s notes and warning confirmed that I probably wouldn’t change my mind about them, so I knew what to expect jumping into this would be wild af.

Gahh damn I didn’t think I could dislike these two more than I did. Ten needed to start seeing the lady a long ass time ago and might have needed some adult supervision at all times because what theeeeee fuck is wrong with him? And Olive, Olive, Olive. So grating and annoying and ughhhhhhhh. I was sick of her more than I was of Tennessee, and that says a lot. Her increasing paranoia throughout the book overrides her self-preservation and survival instincts and it’s like girl, this ain’t the time for this.

Outside of my growing dislike of the characters, which I personally think was intentional on Carmen’s part, TLAAF took me a little longer than I would’ve liked to get through. The pacing of the story was really stretched out to a point where I would either zone out or get distracted by something else and remove my attention away from the book. While I get needing to create and stretch out the tension that is keeping this story afloat, it would’ve benefited from less time with the all-consuming dialogue in Ten and Olive’s minds and more time focused on the action happening in the moment. There was definitely a point where I was so over reading all their inner dialogue that I was about to skip to the end to see how the story wraps up, and as much I like spoilers and will spoil myself at any given moment, I don’t like them in my books.

I wanted to like this more than I do because I really liked Capturing King, but it’s more of an obligated, ‘I read the first book so let me continue on’ read. All of the different pieces are cool on their own, but together, it’s okay.
