Follow accalimed author Jillian Hunter to the glittering world of Regency Scotland, where a powerful lord crosses paths with a charming thief who is bold, beautiful, and positively... Daring The notorious Connor Buchanan, Lord Advocate of Scotland, is called a protector of the innocent by some, and a heartless scoundrel by others. Some call Maggie Saunders a perfect angel--but to Connor Buchanan, she's nothing but trouble. Breaking into his house on a misguided mission of mercy, Maggie finds herself face-to-face with the infamous "Devil's Advocate" himself! Deceived by Maggie's appearance of fragile innocence, Connor is enchanted... until he learns the truth of her larcenous scheme. For the first time, the high and mighty Highlander has met his match in a woman half his size. With a kiss, she captivates him. And with a shocking act of bravery, she draws him into a dangerous secret. Now, Connor must risk everything to obey the irresistible laws of love.
Jillian Hunter is the bestselling author of over twenty historical romances. She lives with her husband, three daughters, a pug and a poodle in Southern California. She loves anyone who can make her laugh, which means she is in love with Mike Myers and Tyler Perry.
This languished on my booksheelf for a long time, and I don't know why, because I usually love Jillian Hunter's books. I enjoyed this one as well, and debated between 3*/4*, but a month after reading it, nothing stands out in my mind that makes it memorable.
3.5 stars. Maggie frustrated me with the constant games, and I couldn't tell if the cluelessness was genuine or manipulative. Man, *I* was starting to feel as blue balled as Connor. But he turned out to be a gem, and I guess the plot was fun/funny overall.
Funny, sexy, light-hearted historical romance set in Scotland. The hero is neither an Earl, a marquis nor a duke. He, in fact, is the Lord Advocate of Scotland. A position that enables Connor Buchanan to wield vast amounts of power and influence.
But to Maggie Saunders, the diminutive heroine, he is her love and is easily swayed by her to do what is needed on her behalf.
I laughed my way through this book and enjoyed every page and chapter. Cheers 🥂
The first five chapters were great....funny! I settled down to a great read and then it segued to some inconsistent events and occurrences. By the time they got to the Highlands, I was highly irritated and dismayed. A one time read.
Another of my favorite authors. This book is funny, with quirky side characters. A charming read. It is strictly a romance. Though the two main characters have a bit of an adventure, there isn't any darkness in this book. Fun read with neat characters.
Marguerite Marie-Antionette de Saint-Evremond, is that a name or what?
Wow. Its one of the most enjoyable book I have read by Jillian Hunter. The lead characters both carried a quirky and adventurous side spicing up the story with romance and a bit of suspense too. I simply can just stop giggling imagining poor Connor's failed attempts to romance Maggie...all thanks to the side characters.
