Finn Daley took the world by storm two years ago when he was drafted by the NHL. The young, handsome, high-scoring player quickly became a fan favorite. He had everything going for him: fame, fortune, a promising career, and his pick of women. But when he made an abrupt exit from the NHL last spring, everything changed and he’s been in hiding ever since.
Casey Scott plans to find out why.
After interning for free all summer at the top television station in the Twin Cities, Casey lands an on-air gig. Trouble is, the new role is Sports Girl—which means reporting from local bars and tailgating parties to create excitement for the hometown heroes. All while wearing tiny team jerseys that are so tight they leave little to the imagination.
But she has a plan. Uncover the biggest sports mystery of the decade, and she’ll be on her way. Question is, how far will she go to get the story?
*Caution: This story contains explicit sex scenes with an alpha hockey player … who gives an entirely new meaning to the term Body Checking. *
Clare James is the author of steamy contemporary romance and new adult novels: BEFORE YOU GO,MORE, DIRTY LITTLE LIES, TALK TO ME, and JUST LISTEN. A former dancer, Clare still loves to get her groove on—mostly to work off her beloved cupcakes and red wine.
A fan of spunky women, gorgeous guys, and super-hot romance, Clare spends most of her time lost in books. She lives in Minneapolis with her two leading men—her husband and young son—and loves to hear from her fans.
Casey, is determined to make her mark in the world of reporting and journalism, but the only job she can get is as a KXAA girl. Her job is to report sport news, specifically hockey while wearing the skimpiest outfits. When she smells a story that could be the breakthrough her career needed, she goes after it! What she didn't plan on was developing feelings for the main focus of her story, Finn Daley. Finn, is just as attracted to Casey as she is to him, maybe even more so.
Talk To Me, is written in first person, present tense and I had trouble getting into the story because of the present tense. The story is told from Finn and Casey's POV in a sort of flashback fashion and the characters' narrations read like a conversation, which is another reason I had some trouble.
The plot revolves around Casey's and her quest to find "The Story" and her Finn might just be what she's looking for. Finn is hiding something, to be quite honest I had all sorts of theories, but none of them were correct.
I liked Finn's character, he's a sexy ex-hockey player, a bad boy, what's not to like? Casey, is a strong and confident heroine. She's also a journalist and will do almost anything to get her story. There was one incident where she found something in Finn's car and immediately jumped to a ridiculous conclusion, for the life of me I can't figure out how she came to that conclusion.
All in all, Talk To Me was a short sexy read with a teeny weeny cliffhanger. I wouldn't call this erotica, but it was definitely hot, I think I'm one of those people that actually enjoy cliffhangers so I liked the fact that the ending left me wanting more. I think I know what Finn's secret is but I need more clarification (what's it called), which I hope to get in the next book.

Talk to Me was a good, steamy read filled with a whole lot of suspense. From the very first page you get sucked into the plot and witness the end of the beginning. Now you may wonder, what the heck am I talking about?
Well, that’s easier explained if you just read the story for yourself.
Upcoming intern Casey Scott has finally got her big shot to make something of herself. All she has to do is uncover the biggest story of sports news: what happened to NHL sensation, Finn Daley?
With a chance of a lifetime and their two worlds rapidly colliding, how will Casey pull off the sham of a lifetime while keeping her heart guarded? And Finn. What is this deep dark secret that he's hiding from the world?
And with Casey getting closer to uncovering his well kept mystery, how will her game of deceit play out now that feelings have developed on both ends and love is in the mix? Will her charade make or break them? And will Finn leave her when he finds out? All’s fair in the game of love! Question is, is how far both are willing to go to risk it? Or lose their hearts while trying.
*I received an ARC via LBTS for the release blitz in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!!*
I became a fan of Clare James when I first read her The Club series and I still am after Talk to Me. I enjoyed this book and the characters, it was a fast fun read. The only thing I didn't like was the cliffhanger. Those darn cliffys get me every time but thank goodness the next book is out.
Talk to Me is about up and coming reporter Casey Scott. Casey's looking for the story that will get her name out there. Finn Daley is hockey's wild child that has retired from the sport early without a word as to why. If Casey can figure out why Finn retired before his time then she'll have the big story she needs. What starts out as a friendship builds into more.
We'll have to wait and see what Finn's big secret is and if Casey will expose him in Just Listen. I can't wait!!!!!
Talk to Me follows the story of Casey and Finn. Casey wants nothing more than to become a serious reporter. After struggling to find work, she gets her first on air job. However, it's not the big break that she was hoping for. She is now the Sports Girl, which has her reporting at bars, wearing tight clothes and not being taken seriously at all. One day, while out interviewing, she spots Finn Daley, ex NHL player. She decides that she is going to uncover the truth about Finn. But, how far will she be willing to go to get the story?????
Finn Daley had everything going for him. He was young, good looking, had a very promising career in the NHL. However fame, fortune, and women aren't everything. Finn makes a sudden exit from the NHL. He is practically in hiding. Will he be able to get past whatever demons haunt him???
I loved the idea behind Talk to Me. I thought it was such an original idea. Casey and Finn had some really great chemistry and shared some very steamy moments. Even though you know nothing good will come from Casey getting involved with Finn, you can't help but watch and see how the story will play out. This story is told from both Finn and Casey's pov. And I loved that there was a reporter interviewing Finn throughout the story. It was just a fun way to tell Finn's story.
Now, I have to warn you, Talk to Me does end on a cliffhanger. I was not at all ready for the story to end!! I have so many questions and I am so excited to see how things will play out in the next book! Luckily Book 2 is due to come out at the end of June, so we won't have a long wait!

*Warning this is part one of Casey and Finn's story and ends with a cliffhanger.*
Finn is a hot young (retired) NHL star.He made an abrupt exit at the height of his career and has been in hiding ever since.
Casey the new hired Sports Girl (much to her disliking) plans to find out why. She plans on finding out the reason Finn has been such a recluse...and if she does she would have uncovered the biggest sports mystery of the decade.
The only problem is feelings start to get in the way and she begins to wonder if solving Finn's mystery is worth getting higher in her career.
This book was so so good! I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between Casey and Finn was so well written I thought I was right there with them peeking at their most intimate moments. I also thought they were really likable, a lot of times when you read a book either the H or h get on your nerves but I liked them both. I can't wait for part two!
I received a complimentary e-copy of Talk To Me in exchange for an honest review.
Casey is biding her time and waiting for a big break in her career and is currently a "Sports Girl" at the local television station. Being ogled by the male sports-fan audience is so far off the mark of her dream of being a serious journalist, but she has to take what she can get. After graduating from college, her skanky advisor blacklisted her in the job market after she refused his advances. She knows that if she could get an exclusive on a big story that things would change for her and her career. And in Finn Daley, she believes she may have found her big story.
Finn Daley is a former hockey star, who walked away from his own career a year ago, without warning and without an explanation to her fans. He's spent the last year, trying to get past his reasons while still keeping things private. Then he meets Casey and even though he knows she's a journalist (and thus always on the search for a story) he can't fight his feelings for her. But is getting close to her worth the risk of the exposure?
I enjoyed Talk To Me a lot. I love that we get alternating views from both Casey and Finn, so we could get into each character's heads and see what they were thinking and feeling. I will admit though that when I first started reading their story, I had a lot going on in my mind, so I was a bit confused as we went from present to flashblacks. That's on me, though, not the story because when I was able to clear my head and restarted the story, everything made sense to me and I quickly became absorbed in their story and had to keep going to see how things were going to play out for them.
Talk to Me is the first part in the 2 part Public Lives series. Part 2 will be out later this month so it won't be a long of a wait to see what happens after the cliffhanger that ended the book. I can't wait to see what happens next!!!
This was the third book that I've read by Clare James and it definitely won't be the last!
I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
I'm going to go ahead a preface this review by saying I pretty much love everything Clare James writes. I am a big fan, and this book was no different. The story sucked me in from the get go, and as of late, I am a big fan of shorter books that I can read in one sitting (perfect for a busy new mom like me!).
This book just did it for me and here's why:
1. loved the way it was written-we get both Finn and Casey's POVs and it also jumps back and forth from present to past (it took me a minute to figure out the time frame but it wasn't confusing after that) 2. the mystery that is Finn Daley---I am already so invested in this character it's not even funny 3. great secondary characters and strong heroine that doesn't annoy
This book does end in a cliffhanger, but the good kind that just keep you wanting more. I wasn't pissed at the end of the book---just excited as hell to see what comes next!
My only caveat would be that I just wanted to see more of their budding friendship/relationship. I feel like we miss months here and there. However, I understand that if the author were to do that, it would be a long-ass book.
I can't wait for the next installment and highly recommend this quick-yet-enthralling read!
Clare James hit my radar a few months ago with her steamy book, Dirty Little Lies, which I loved, loved, loved! Naturally, I wanted to read Talk to Me. I do love me a good sports romance!
Casey Scott is trying to make a name for herself in the newsroom. She's sick of being just a pretty face with tits and ass. When she spies ex hockey player, Finn Daley sneaking into the arena, she knows if she can get to the bottom of his abrupt retirement she'll hit pay dirt.
Finn has been living his hockey free life in solitude. He's left the sport for a reason and it's a reason he's not disclosing to anyone especially a reporter looking for her big break.
What begins as a friendship between this unlikely pair, soon turns to flirtation. Casey knows she's on to the biggest story of her career. Will her feelings win out or will she betray the man who's begun to mean much more to her?
Serials seem to be the "IN" thing right now, much to the chagrin of some readers. Of course you know pretty much from the get go you're going to be left hanging until the next book comes out. On the bright side book 2 is out very shortly and it's not going to be a long wait. Let me tell you, not only did the author leave her readers hanging, but her characters as well! I LOVED the way this story was written and I'm anticipating the next book in a very big way! Holy motherloving cliffhanger!
Talk to Me is the first instalment in the Public Lives series. It only took a couple of hours to read but more than made an impression on me.
Casey, armed with a jounalism degree lands a job as a sports girl. This is far from her dream job as a serious journalist, however beggars can't be choosers, even if it means wearing skimpy clothes and acting perky. Cases decides to make the most of her job and is determined to show the sports producer that she can come up with a story to show her talent. All she needs is a good lead.
Finn Daley stunned the hockey world when he unexpectedly announced his retirement. No one could figure out why Finn quit the NHL when his career was just taking off.
This is a funny, steamy and intriguing story that is told from alternating points of view between Finn and Casey. Most of the story is set in the recent past with glimpses of the current day. This increases the mystery as the reader is left to wonder what happened and just what Finn's secret might be.
This is a well crafted story, written in an interesting way. Be warned that you are going to want to read more...I'm hoping that I won't have to wait long for the next instalment and more of Finn and Casey's story.
I received an ARC from the author in return for an honest review.
WoW! Hot and yummy! Draw in from the start, this is a read you won't want to put down unless you are starting on part two. I read this cover to cover and enjoyed every little bit. Finn left the NHL for reasons unknown and has secrets. Casey is trying to make her mark in reporting and has more spunk and sass than even she knows what to do with. Starting out, looking for a huge story to break open her career, she seeks out the now-reclusive Finn. He thinks she is a puck bunny at first and it gets more and more interesting from there. They become friends and are quickly becoming much more, but will his secrets come between them or will her job? Stay tuned...
This was an amazing story that kept me intrigued tru the whole thing. I didn't want it to end, Casey and Finn are up there on my top favorite couples. If your looking for a book that has it all this is one of them! The down fall, is the cliff hanger!!!! I need the next book now!!!!!
I received a copy of this book for an honest review
You know I love my hockey books! I loved this one. I don't think I have read Clare James before... and I really liked her style. The beginning of each chapter was a very cool way to start! I liked the story, characters and everything in between!
Had a hard time finishing this... and that doesn't happen often. Or at all. The romance was fine - usual girl tries to get good with guy under false reasons, guy finds out and get pissed, boom conflict. 😞 I wanted soooo much more out of this and maybe that's why I ended up so disappointed. I'm a fan of hockey main characters and the drama that can be their life. This felt...superficial in certain aspects, especially concerning Finn's secret. That was the biggest let down of all, how that entire revelation was handled. If you're looking for an easy read with no expectations, have at it. If you want more connection, drama, believable romance... I wouldn't recommend it. Edit: I notice some of the reviews reference this as part 1, and a 2nd part coming up. The edition I got has both parts in it, and this is my review for the full novel.
I have no words. I honestly couldn't put it down. I needed to know what was going to happen between Casey and Finn. Was she finally going to get her story? What was the real reason Finn retired so early on? I was surprised and shocked to find out. I loved everything about this story.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I loved everything about this book! I loved Finn and Casey and Mack and Nate. They were all great characters and I loved how sassy Casey was! I especially loved the way this was written with each chapter starting with them talking to the reporter and it all unfolding a little at a time to keep us intrigued all the way through!
I loved this book, the writing was something different than I’ve ever read, and I really enjoyed the concept!!! It was refreshing to have this new style of writing, and I could NOT put this book down!Casey is a sports reporter that is trying to make her way up the ladder, and get a good “story” to do it. Finn is an ex-NHL player, who quit abruptly, in the height of his career, and never gave a reason why. When Casey sees Finn at a hockey game, she decides she is going to get “the story” that everyone wants to know…..Why did Finn Daley retire so abruptly? What she doesn’t anticipate is that she will fall for him.“I wasn’t sure at the time how I would pull off a story of this magnitude. All I knew was that I needed him- needed his story to help me with mine.”
Casey does not want her “spark” for Finn to get in the way of furthering her career though, and has to remind herself again and again that he is a player, and she can be a reporter, and get this story.
“This man who made me feel so alive, so wanted, so sexy. Well, he was a player. A user of women. An entitled, overgrown, and oversexed boy. And he wouldn’t get the best of me.”
After multiple chance meetings, they both can’t stop thinking about each other. Finn is used to one night stands, and not getting close to any woman. He uses them for sex, and that’s it. So, when he can’t stop thinking about Casey, he is in uncharted waters. Even after finding out she is a reporter, he can’t keep his mind from running back to Casey.
“Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s healthy. And the sad part? I still miss that part of my life. That wild, uncontrolled part of myself. Even though it almost destroyed me.”
They finally decide to be “friends” and date, Casey is excited for this opportunity, because she knows she needs Chase to trust her, in order to get his story.
“The truth was, Finn didn’t mean anything to me. Plus, this was in the public’s interest. After all, they financed his post lifestyle, allowing him to live like a king for the rest of his days. Didn’t they have a right to know why he hung it up? Didn’t he owe an explanation to the people who essentially paid him?”
Things change when they both start to have more feelings for each other, and Casey starts questioning her reporter side.
“Not that my story was the only reason I wanted to get Finn horizontal. Far from it. Despite my best efforts, I was falling for the guy.”
Finn starts wondering if he can change and have a real relationship. He can see he is changing from being around Casey, and is hoping she can be enough, to change him for good.
“There was something possessive in me when it came to this woman. I wanted to open her doors… and help her with bags, and push her out of the way from moving cars, and twist off all the caps to the jars of pickles she liked so much. I was a floundering idiot around the girl.”
I had butterflies in my stomach, wondering when will Finn find out she is trying to learn his secret, and what will he do once he knows??? What is Finn’s secret, and will it crush Casey??? How will they get through all of this??? When will they both find out the truth, and the explosion happen? I loved the chemistry between Finn and Casey! I could NOT put this book down!!! I needed answers!!!
“So maybe this is why you wait. If I hadn’t been able to spend time with Casey, and if I didn’t know her quirks and humor and spunky personality, would I appreciate this moment?”
This is a must read!! I absolutely LOVED this book! But, I must say that I wanted to THROW MY KINDLE, and scream at someone!!! Having that much emotion, with a book, is rare for me. I cannot wait to read the 2nd in this series!

Talk To Me by Clare James is the first book I have read for this author. I absolutely love discovering new books that I love from new authors. This was exactly that a new book that I fell head over heels in love with. Not only does it feature an athlete in Finn, but also features a strong, and driven women. The story was just really great for me. The author wrote the story as an interview with Finn. We see the story unfold from each chapter. It was so addicting to read, I was sucked into knowing everything that led up to this interview. A would call this book a very steamy, suspenseful, and romantic read.
Finn's sudden retirement from hockey is a sports mystery. No one can understand why he would retire at the height of his game. Casey is trying to work her way up into being a serious journalist. Casey realizes she may be able to land Finn's story and a shot at finally being taken seriously as a reporter. Casey is pretty determined to get the story of the year and is willing to go to any length to get it. As Finn and Casey get close the story seems to start unraveling. But how far is too far! Will the story of the year be worth losing Finn? Will Finn find out whatever they were building together was just a lie? When/and if the secret is revealed will Finn how will it affect their future? If they still have hope of one! Secrets and lies may be the one thing that will destroy them both.
I just have to warn you there is a cliffhanger. One you won't want to miss. I was floored to say the least. Finn and Casey stole my heart and pretty much broke it in the same book. It was quite an emotional ride. While reading you may start developing your own theories as to why Finn retired so abruptly. Let me tell you it won't even come close to the real reason.
As Finn starts to come out of his shell with Casey we learn that they both have very strong chemistry, both are driven, and also have the desire to work hard for their dreams. They have a unique relationship that thrives of some pretty heavy emotions. The story is sweet at times and I enjoyed watching these two find something special with the other.
There are a lot of things unfolding in this book. I was glad that there were alternate pov's in the book. Actually my favorite books always include both sides to the story. Isn't that what they always say that there are two sides to every story? Well you will definitely get two sides and so much more. Finn and Casey were full of so many surprises.
I thought this was a brilliantly written, and plotted story. I, myself can't wait to see where the story is going to go. I am going to expect a lot of emotional upheavals in book two. I can recommend this book without a doubt. Truly a genuine story that had me guessing and immediately needing more. A definite hit from the first page to the last!
Talk to Me is a short and simple free ebook. I didn't love it, but it was fine! This is the perfect read as a palette cleanser or just wanting to read a book really quick.
Because I read so much, any time I can come across a text that’s writing style is completely different than anything I’ve read before, it’s a definite bonus, and Clare James’ new book Talk to Me is one such text. Talk to Me is told through both the hero and heroine’s perspectives, and it is set-up in a reporter/interviewee format. The hero, Finn Daley, is an ex-professional hockey player whose unexpected retirement remains a mystery; his point of view is told through the role of the interviewee while the heroine, Casey Scott’s side is delivered as a reporter investigating information. But here’s the problem, what starts off as a potential career making news story turns into so much more, and the objective writer that Casey is supposed to be gets thrown out the window when feelings develop between herself and Finn, her unknowing story. By the end of book 1, it’s unclear what’s more important to Casey – the story or the man – the career or the relationship.
I absolutely loved this story. The characters are interesting and well developed. The mystery behind Finn’s sudden departure from the game of hockey and what his secret is, is slowly built up throughout the book. Clare James provides some clues in terms of Finn’s actions while playing hockey both on and off the ice as to what it might be, but even at the end of the text, it’s still merely speculation, which has me dying to dive into book 2 and finally solve the mystery. Casey is an interesting character; she’s driven to succeed, but through her internal monologues, readers also see that she does have a moral code, which is not the best combination for a reporter who wants to move up the ladder. She’s definitely conflicted about what she should do, and as her feelings for Finn grow, it gets worse, and I think she knows that her betrayal is not going to go over well at all with Finn; it will more than likely end what they have, which is why she won’t say anything.
Talk to Me is a fantastic book. I love how the story’s presented, and I can’t wait to find out Finn’s secret. A definite must read!

WOW HOT I just finish reading this book, and I have to say I love it, but really now I cant wait to read the following book, this ending left me hanging, I love the characters, this was a quick read, the book was steaming with suspense in it, and I love it. I am gone keep this short since I don't want to give anything away.
This is the story of Finn and Casey, see Finn was hockey player, he was the young guest hockey player, that got draft by the NHL, and with his skill he was high-scoring, and became the fan favorite, but that was two years ago, now his being retire and keep to himself, he goes to some hockey games without no one noticing him, but that all change the night that he when to a game, that's when he saw her the reporter.
Casey was interviewing a little boy, when she saw him past by, she couldn't believe that it was him, and when she got a little closer she knew it was Finn, she knew she got her story, now she just needed to do more research about him, and find out why he left the NHL, after that night Finn and Casey kept bumping into each other, Finn got the wrong guess about who she was, and Casey got the wrong idea about him, into the day that they both ran into each other, and decide to start over, that was the day where they knew that their life was about to change.
I love Finn and Casey story, I love it that the more time they spend with each other, the more tense they get, and they fight to keep themselves under control, love it how they start to trust into each other, and love the relationship they have, But now I cant wait to read the second part, I cant believe it end it the way it did, Author Clare James THANK YOU for introducing me to this awesome characters and this amazing steaming hot piece of book love it.
“I have a thing for cowboys, I’m ashamed to say. Not sure if it was from watching The Dukes of Hazzard reruns as a kid or Mom’s love of country music, but honestly, if I spent time around any man with a southern accent and cowboy boots? My IQ dropped thirty points.”
“I am fairly sure Casey was designed to fit into my arms. She was toned, but still soft. Brilliant, but still innocent. Sweet, but spunky as hell. She was made up of the most perfect contradictions.”
My Review:
Cliffhangers are a dirty trick, and I would be furiously stomping my little feet if I didn’t already have the next book loaded on my precious kindle. I am hooked on this story - I must know what comes next. I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy this book, even at the mid-way point. The female lead is hard for me to care for as she is obnoxious, and doing somewhat awful and selfish. She is taking advantage, manipulating, using, and planning to betray someone who has been good to her, to advance her career. Yet I hope/feel she is going to be redeemed somehow, as she does has a sense of guilt for what she is doing - yet she doesn’t stop. For his sake, I am desperately wanting her to be a better person. And just like her, I am equally desperate to find out his secret. The story is well-written, intriguing, tantalizing, and steamy. I am eager to continue with book 2 - Just Listen.
Talk to Me by Clare James is a written differently that most of your romance books which makes it so great. This book is written in a way that makes it as if it were a TV interview and you are watching it instead of reading it. The news anchor is doing an interview with Finn Daley ex hockey player that suddenly left the sport for unknown reasons. Casey is a young news reporter just trying to get her big break. Casey unexpectedly meets Finn through her brother of all people. Casey now makes it her mission to find out the real reason behind Finns departure. The closer she gets the harder she falls for him. Finn as a problem well more than one really. The lifestyle has caused him not to trust or love, but spending time with Casey is changing all of that. Several times Casey uncovers things about Finn and reports them before she learns whole truth. But the big question is can Casey handle the real reason he left and can Finn trust her enough not to go to the press with the truth. I would recommend this book because it is such a refreshing read the way it is written.

Talk to Me had me glued to the book. I couldn't put it down. Casey Scott is my kind of girl. She's not your typical damsel in distress. She's career focused and will do anything to move up in her career. When she crosses paths with the sexy and hot headed Finn Daley she is determined to find out what his huge secret is. I enjoyed how well written this book was. I was pulled in. Then BAM a cliffhanger!!!!!!! I highly recommend this quick read to anyone up for a feisty female and sexy hockey player.
