Crooked Sinners #4

ראיוט האוס: פגישת מחזור

Rate this book

Alright…

So, going into this I may have had too high hopes. It was just over a year since I’d read the first two books, I’d finished the third just a month earlier. I was really excited! But I read this book in a day and I was not overly impressed.

I do not encourage hate towards this author. I think what she has created with this series was very beautiful. I thought a finale book was a great idea! But it fell incredibly flat when it came down to it.

For starters - my favorite couple was Carrie and Dash. I understand not every couple is going to get equal page time when we’re splitting this book amongst 6 characters. But C & D’s plot for this book was just very strange? Sure, when you get to the epilogue it might make sense why their storyline catered more around Michael and was separate from the group for the first half. But why? It almost felt silly to include them at all until the group needed to meet up, because their storyline is only seemingly setting up a new series that they are 99% going to be cameo or background characters in. Obviously, this was more of an Elodie/Wren and Presley/Pax book. I’d say the first half is dedicated to E/W and P/P get the second half.

One of the biggest shocks when starting this book was how quickly it picked up from the Og series. Like, wdym its only been a few months!?! Was this discussed previously? I don’t know why I thought this would be at least two years or so in the future. Not enough time had passed I feel for a lot of real character development or exploration with these characters. They are still 18/19 years old!

I’m really trying to avoid spoilers in this review so this is what I will quickly say about the central conflict.
1. Isn’t introduced quickly enough
2. Does not carry the same tension that the og books had
3. The main action boils down to just a few chapters near the end
4. The BIG MOMENT (whatever that might seem to you) was so underwhelming and described in such little detail I was disappointed.

This might seem like a really big hate post. And honestly, maybe I’m being a little harsh. But it’s hard to look at this book and not see it as something that was probably motivated by the big TikTok push the series received last year around this time. I mean, that’s when I picked up the series.

The book has its moments. The first 10-20% was really fun. I was enjoying trying to figure out where things were going and starting to put some guesses together. But, you know what, overall it wasn’t for me.

If you want to jump back into this world and ignore the real world for a bit, maybe you’ll love this! I’m just one person with an opinion and I wanted to voice my thoughts, because of how strongly I felt after reading. This is no way the worst book I’ve ever read and I think it will find its perfect readers. Sadly, it was just not for me

A compelling story, a riots of feels, Callie’s masterful writing doesn’t leave room for disappointment. This story is just perfect. If you are familiar with the 𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨 series this is an absolute must read in my opinion.

I know there are some readers who don’t wish to know more about the characters lives after their story has come to an end.. well, I don’t belong to that category, I crave to know more! (That’s one of the reasons why I struggle with believing some tropes are durable beyond the fun part). When a story is well written with a solid plot, formidable characters, these worlds keep living on, in my head they are pretty much alive. Thus I want a glimpse into their lives down the future.

Given the above I eagerly jumped on the chance to see more of my Riot family. Safe in the knowledge of Callie’s ability to weave a catchy plot I wasn’t disappointed by this story. An emotionally charged journey I won’t easily forget, told in multiple POV this tale offers a window into the lives of three enthralling couples. This wasn’t simply a reunion of some old friends, this was so much more, a needed addendum to three irresistible stories.

Although these characters are all riveting, I fell (hard) in love with Pax all over agin. I appreciated the building of the story, the banter and laugh, the hard times, the obstacles and the way they all overcome and win their battles again and again. Chef’s kiss Ms Hart.

When Callie Hart meant Reunuon, she meant REUNION!!! And I loved every word of this brilliant story. Writing this kind of book sometimes proves tricky, and the story often ends up being cheesy and expected. Not here. Not at all. Reunion had me bursting out laughing, bitting my nails, and crying. Hilarious It, mysterious and emotional, it had everything and turned out being the perfect fourth book our three couples needed.
Well done!

I was really enjoying this until about half way through. This book was poorly researched which I can usually ignore but the issue in this one was so glaring that it ruined the whole thing for me.

Presley is pregnant enough that both Elodie & Pax INSTANTLY recognized it despite her wearing a baggy flannel, because her bump was SO noticeable, and she’s already feeling the baby kick… but she has a miscarriage from an ectopic pregnancy. Like… what? Ruptures from ectopic pregnancies happen so early in pregnancy that Presley would not have been showing in any noticeable way, and she would have been weeks away from feeling the baby kick in a first pregnancy. Even if she was at the absolute END of the window for ectopic ruptures (like 16 weeks) she would have already known it was ectopic because she would have already had at least one ultrasound- one at her first appointment before 12 weeks and a second if she chose to get an NT scan. But we know she wasn’t that far along because she had only found out she was pregnant 2 weeks prior…? I found this SO distracting- I was taken so far out of the book that I couldn’t get back into it, despite thinking I was going to rate it 5 stars up until that point.

Also, Alaska is not “across the country” from New Hampshire. It’s across the CONTINENT.

AHHH! Took me a while to read this purely because I’ve just been in a fat reading slump, however I am blown away and this has definitely pulled me out of that slump! The Riot series has my heart and it’s something that regularly takes over my mind, I left riot reunion unread for a while after reading the series, purely because I didn’t want to let it go.

Chapter one instantly had me hooked!! Pax and Presley’s story was heartbreaking, but I’m so glad they got their happy ending after all! I love how this book included them all, giving updates on what they were doing in life since wolf half, and I love how it also included wolf hall too! Wren Jacobi has my heart 🥰 I’m going to miss this series so much🥹 definitely worth the read! 🖤

A completely unnecessary read to an already completed series

While I love Callie Hart, this book felt like a waste of time to read. The Riot House series had concluded well and this book failed to add anything to top it. The bad boys were portrayed as weaker love struck characters. The “I love her to death, reason for living” theme got old quite fast. It was repeated with every character and I found that no one was authentic. I also found myself wondering: would a guy really think that or behave that way? Something I’ve never wondering before with Callie’s novels.

Well hot freaking dämn! I loved the Riot House guys from the very first time I've read them and although it's been a while since the last book, it was as if I'd never been away!

Each couple have went in different directions and I loved that they haven't all stayed in the one place, all living together and everything's perfect. They've followed there dreams and yet the instant one needs help - they're there. No questions asked and that made me fall in love with all over again!
Nothings straight forward, nothings 100% certain or foolproof and that that is when the angst, the heartbreak, the friendships, the love and the determination to look out for each other kicks in and man oh man, did it kick in.

We get all six POVs in this book and although six might seem a bit high to some, it was easily followed. Each character and couple just flowed, it all just fit and I hand on heart loved it all!

Congrats Callie, you definitely smashed it and although I'm seriously sad they're finished, I am seriously excited to see what comes next!

Loved it

This book was everything I needed and more. Callie stayed so true to each character and I absolutely adored being back in their world. I don’t want to leave spoilers so you’ll have to read to find out but let me tell you there’s SO much amazing content in this story.
The writing was captivating as always. Callie has this incredible way to share a story with you that makes you feel like you’re not just a reader.
These Riot boys are everything. I can’t wait for the epilogue and to forever love these books

“We're going home. Back to Riot House.”

Crooked Sinners is still one of my all-time favorite series, so I was over the moon when Callie Hart announced that she was releasing a fourth installment. She also mentioned that Pax and Presley would be at the heart of the plot, so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed as they're my favorite couple of the three.

After graduating from Wolf Hall Academy, Elodie and Wren, Carrie and Dash, and Presley and Pax go their separate ways, but not for long as a ghost from the past comes back to haunt them, and life-changing events occur. Like the previous books in the series, I was invested in the story from page 1 and loved that each character had their own POV! You experienced the story through several perspectives, which made it even more interesting, and captivating. Even if this installment is a way to end the series, there's still plenty of suspense, and the same vibes as the previous one. Reunion Riot was also very steamy and angsty, and I loved seeing each couple make a life together. Also, the fact that Pax continues to call Presley by her full name still does something to me!! Nevertheless, I liked it even more when they got reunited together because their dynamic is golden! The bond between the Riot House boys, and Elodie, Carrie, and Presley is one of my favorite aspects of the series, and we see them grow even closer in this book, which is heartwarming! There were still moments that broke my heart, and I wasn't expecting them at all, but the emotional ending made everything all right again 🫶

Overall, Riot Reunion is the perfect way to end this spectacular series, even if the author has announced an extended epilogue that I can't wait to read! This installment reminded me how much I've enjoyed and loved the Crooked Sinners series, and I will probably never get enough of this world and these characters, who are some of my favorites!!

Well, that was disappointing.

Over the course of 425 pages, I simultaneously felt like nothing happened and too much happened too quickly. It was like Callie couldn’t decide if she wanted this to be a slice-of-life continued epilogue or an actual novel.

The fact that the main protagonist from the original trilogy is back and gets maybe 10 pages of “screen” time is odd. And while I always love cameos, the Micheal scenes felt like a waste. (I *get* that it was setting up Michael’s book, but like couldn’t they just have gone to the Friends & Family.)

But…that is the problem with these wrap-up/return-to stories. Authors don’t know who to consider the main couple or what the main storyline should be, so for the sake of giving everyone equal story time, it just feels like we are skimming through scenes.

And other reviews have gone into it more in-depth, but like, as someone who doesn’t have kids, even I was like, “uh, that's not how this works” when it came to the Presley storyline. Again, if Callie had wanted to keep it in, it could have easily been slimmed down and uncomplicated (did we *really* need that trip to Alaska?), and we could have kept the same emotional beats.

Holy hell fire!!!! When we got the last book in the Crooked Sinners series I expected it to be the last so when Callie announced a NEW book with all 3 couples my excitement was insane! I absolutely could not wait to get my hands on it and now the time has come…I devoured this story and loved every second.

Riot Reunion is the forth book in the series and should be read following the other three. It’s a book that tells a story in 6 different point of views. Usually so many can get one confused but this just flows so perfectly and you know where you’re at.

Having these guys back together reminded me of how much I loved them all and how much I’ve missed them.

As usual with a Callie book nothing can ever go smoothly, there’s drama, there’s twists and there’s heartbreak, quite a bit of heartbreak to be honest. There was one point I could have quite happily crawled into the book and give a certain someone’s head a shake and then I almost threw my kindle at the stupidity..so many feelings!!

Callie truly brought us a reunion that goes out with a bang! She stayed true to each character that we love so much. I am so SO damn happy to be back in this world.

Riot Reunion is dark and dangerously delicious. It’s a book about friends and found family trying to over come their traumas together.

Omg they are here! One of my all time fav series and Callie has delivered an epic reunion. I expected this to be an extended epilogue, and HEA wrap up. But no, that’s not this at all. It’s every bit as intense, heartstopping, heady and atmospheric as the trilogy. Turns out even though our couples are happy together there is still much story to tell - Callie digs deep, each character with their own challenges and victories, but as always their journeys all intertwine in a beautifully epic and emotive return to the world I adore. This reminded me why I love these broken, flawed, but unconquerably mighty Riot world characters and the majestically lyrical and provocative prose of Callie Hart. She gives us so much more than I expected, and somehow the impossible happened- I fell even more in love with every one of them. They continue to be tragically beautiful in the face of heart breaking adversity- but as always they come together in the most unbreakable of found families. They are tried, at times they are broken, but ultimately they are what has always defined them to their very core. They are survivors. My heart is so full.

Oh, my heart! I don’t think I can ever love anyone more than I love Wren Jacobi, but damn, Pax makes a run on that again in this book. All three Riot House boys are as sexy and insane as always, and I loved every minute of being back in this world. I’m honestly so sad it’s over, but these will always be comfort reads for me!

Callie’s writing always pulls me in, and this was no exception. There was a ton of tension here that kept the pacing moving nicely. The vibes were giving everything I needed, and the spice is fricking spicing, y’all! We got all six main character’s POV but it never felt messy to me, the storyline flows perfectly. The plotline is heavy on Pax and Pres, but we spend a lot of sexy time with Elodie and Wren. Dash and Carrie have some fantastic moments, too. And the cameos from the earlier books and her other series had me screaming! If you’re a fan of Callie’s work, read this immediately. If you haven’t read her yet, go pick up her backlist. She never disappoints, but this dark academia series is perfection!

oh boy.

lemme just start by saying that i was going into this hoping and praying for a cute epilogue book like the royal elite series got but unfortunately, this book just caused me more pain and agony then the originals did.

it seriously didn’t even feel like a part of the same series and the ending of it didn’t give me any real at all closure.

wren & elodie carried this book on their fucking backs.

it’s been a long time since i read the first book of this series so i don’t remember much abt the couple and i don’t think i absolutely loved their book but this one made me like them more. they were the only couple who got justice and it rlly did feel like their characters matured.

at least they didn’t lose all character development *cough cough PAX & PRES cough cough*

dash & carrie literally gave us nothing. they were separated from the group for the entire first half and didn’t get a lot of chapters so their story kinda fell flat.

i rlly liked them as a couple although i didn’t like their orignal book so i was hoping to get some more out of them in this one but didn’t.

also, the part where that woman hits on carrie and dash is like salivating over the idea of carrie and her hooking up was so weird to me. like hello ?? gross man.

and finally, my fav couple of the entire series, pax & pres. massive sigh.

i honestly have never been so stressed as i was during this book.

i love love love pax & pres so much and have reread their book like 3 or more times by now (even tho i literally cannot stand the playboy trope one bit and have to skip to the middle to avoid reading him being a dirty slut) and this book caused them so much pain for no fucking reason.

both of them have already been through enough in the original book why tf couldn’t they just be happy ?

the pregnancy, the loss of it, the surgery, pax literally fucking leaving her (WHY WOULD HE LEAVE HER AFTER SHE JUST LOST THEIR FUCKING BABY AND HAD MAJOR EMERGENCY SURGERY ??? TF ??? HIT HIM AGAIN WREN !) and then breaking up ?? god i was actually clenching my asshole in a BAD BADDDDDD way that was so annoying.

because the originals never got an epilogue and i reread pax & pres’s book so many times, i pictured them having a cute little happy ending not whatever the fuck this was.

everything that happened i felt was so unbelievably out of character for them. why would all their character development be ruined like that ?

and the way pax talked to pres when she was literally pregnant with his baby was…HIT HIM ! i’m not sorry, do not ever talk to the mother of ur child like that sir or i will literally turn you into dust.

this book just rlly shifted my perspective of their romance and i wish it didn’t because i love them sm.

in conclusion, let these characters be happy please and thank you ! also a threat to the author to never touch these characters again unless ur prepared to give them a nice fluffy ending. i’ll hurt you ! 🫶🫶

p.s. what was with the guys thinking “i’d fuck her” whenever they saw an attractive woman when they literally have girlfriends ???? have some fucking decorum that made me soooo nauseous.

5 stars!

Callie Hart has delivered a wonderful treat for her fans – revisiting her Crooked Sinners world with a story reuniting these amazing and much-loved characters, and I loved diving back into this series. (A quick note - This book is a direct follow on from events in the earlier books, so I would not recommend reading it as a standalone).

The stories of Wren & Elodie, Dash & Carrie, and Pax & Presley are absolute faves, and this book is written in alternating POVs, giving us the perspective of all six of the characters as they move on to the next stage of their lives post high school. They all have plans, and they’re all embracing the changes that are coming, taking big steps towards independence and reaching their dreams. But when their friends need them, they drop everything to reunite, rallying together to support and be there for each other. And when a threat from the past resurfaces, they’ll fight like hell to protect and defend each other.

I have so much love for these characters, and loved the chance to spend more time with them. It’s a bit of a mixed bag for their stories, bringing excitement, happiness, unexpected drama, heartache and emotion, and I loved it all. Life is hard, and we’re sometimes forced to deal with really tough situations, and I loved that we got to see these characters face their challenges, not always handling it well, but figuring it all out along the way. It’s not happy times, but there is never any doubting the love that each of these couples have for each other (or their mad passion for each other, because damn, this book is steamy!), and I loved that we got to see that over and over again.

I can barely contain all of the things she makes me feel inside myself. At any moment, I might crack open and the madness of my affection for her will blast out of me like rays of blinding light.
She’s
everything.

We spend time with each of the couples together, which I loved, there’s also time with the boys, time with the girls, and time with the whole crew together. The dynamics are absolutely fantastic, and I loved being back with this group, in whatever way we get them.

“We’re fated, you and me. Your heart is mine to cherish. Your body is mine to worship. Your soul is mine to keep.”

Things climax of the story brings intensity and had my heart pounding, and it also brings the feels. I was madly flipping pages towards the end there, my heart broke for what they go through and I even shed a few tears. But wow, what a ride.

“Sometimes the path of least resistance isn’t a straight line. It’s the way home.”

There’s even a fun tie-in to the Blood & Roses world, and the chance to catch up with beloved characters from that series, which was a bonus.

This is a 5-star read for sure, but I still wish we got a little bit more. Though I loved the story and loved where the couples ended up, it still felt a bit unfinished for me. I needed just a glimpse of where our couples end up. Am I greedy? Perhaps. But I can still want it. There is an epilogue which hints that we may see more of them in the future, and I’m hanging out for that.

A must-read for Crooked Sinners fans. 5 stars!

When I started Riot Ruinion I didn't really know what to expect, BUT I wasn't expecting the huge roller coaster of reading Wren, Elodie, Carrie, Dash, Pax & Presley again, and although I think Callie made some characters suffer a little more, I loved being able to read them again! as the last pieces of the puzzle finally fell into place and reading them going home did something to my heart. Honestly, I think I would never get tired of reading these characters if the author wanted to keep writing about them, and I definitely will never get tired of reading Callie Hart's books, NEVER!

I need to start by saying that I loved Wren so much more with this book. He's still the grumpy artist who is obsessed with his girlfriend and is only able to bring out his softer side with her while hating the rest of the world, something that I have always found very funny about his character, but I also loved reading a more mature Wren, who still has a hard time expressing his feelings, particularly with his friends, but is willing to try and is ALWAYS there for them, especially Pax.

Elodie continues on a rather complicated path, full of mixed feelings and in which sometimes she doesn't quite know what to do, which broke my heart a lot, but I liked that Wren was with her at all times, also, it was very beautiful to see her process everything that she lived in Wolf Hall, in her personal life, and how she ended this book being an even stronger, braver girl! I also enjoyed SO MUCH reading her develop a sort of truce-connection-friendship with Pax and see how that led her to confront Wren in the most funny, moving, and important way.

Carrie & Dash have the least chaotic and troubled ride in this reunion, or at least that's what it seems, with Dash looking for a place to a summer conservatory with a very talented teacher who we all love, and trying to keep the peace with Micahel, Carina's guardian who he doesn't trust very much, and with Carrie realizing a very important thing that could change the quiet life they have in London. These two remain the most reasonable of the bunch, the constant support of their friends and the ones who manage to balance the chaos around them, which is precisely why I loved reading the little twists Callie put on their story in the end!

I think Pax & Presley wouldn't be themselves if their plot wasn't the MOST complicated, although I think it wasn't necessary to make us suffer like that with them, especially since they are my favorites in the series, but I really liked read them because their moments are the definition of "what happens after the book ends": it doesn't always have to be cute and sometimes the characters have to keep fighting to be together, to overcome their insecurities, fears & traumas, they keep making bad decisions, making mistakes, and learning from them. And yes, I got a lot of stress reading these two, but I also loved seeing that they are still the Pres & Pax I fell in love with, that their love for each other is always there, still in the hard times, and I was so happy Callie followed up with the most meaningful and moving moments they had in Riot Act!!

I was really hyped for this book when I heard it was coming out. Reunion with the Riot House boys and their girlfriends? Heck yes!!!

But I was a little disappointed. Let's start with what I loved...

Wren and Elodie are as close as ever. Their scenes open with them at her father's funeral. Yes, the evil, twisted, SOB finally succumbed to his injuries (not directly of course). It got hot right away and I even laughed at the ending result of the casket. Their love for each other is just as strong as ever and it was nice to see them still growing together as they purchase their first new home.

Dash and Carrie are on their was to Seattle for an amazing opportunity. This was a great reunion not only for the two of them, but we got to see Michael again. Mysterious as ever, Michael has to interfere with Dash and Carrie getting to spend any time together. It was a little weird at first, but funny after finally realizing what was going on.

Now the part that I absolutely hated...

When I read Riot Act, I didn't hate Presley. But this book made me hate her soooooooo much. I'm actually highly disappointed in her for so many reasons. II found myself doubting whether or not she ever truly loved Pax if she could ever do to him what she did in this book. And her dad? Don't even get me started on why I now think he's a loser of the worse kind. Who is he really looking out for?

I'm...conflicted. I really loved the first three books, so I was excited to read more. Most of this was fine - really enjoyed the Wren pov chapters especially - but I HATED the conflict between Pax and Presley. I don't mind the trope itself, I just hated it between these two. I hated everything that happened surrounding it. It honestly just about caused a dnf, but luckily, Wren and Elodie saved the day.

This was an absolute waste of my time. My favorite characters were background characters to two mediocre and less superior couples. I’m shocked, appalled and downright disgusted by what that woman did to my favorite couple. Like why was that necessary? I wish I didn’t read this book and I’m gonna erase it from my memory and act like it doesn’t exist.

Going back to Riot House was something I hadn’t on my 2023 Bingo Card but I’m so, so happy that Callie wrote this book.

The book starts were Riot Act ended: after graduation. We follow each couple who are all following their dreams which also means that they’re no longer living together and aren’t even in the same country but when one of them calls and needs help they let everything drop and come to help.

We have all six POV’s which seems a bit much at first but I think it was perfect for this book especially because each couple has its own problem to fight so we can read three stories in one book. I was a bit skeptical at first because I thought that six different POV’s could get a bit messy but that didn’t happen and instead the plot flew perfectly.

Riot Reunion was a beautifully written and intense book. It was filled with so much heartbreak but also love, happiness and loyalty and even if I’m a bit mad that Callie put my favorite couple through literally HELL I enjoyed this book so much and I was so happy to read about them again and it made me realise how much I missed all of them.

ARC kindly provided by Callie and her team in exchange for an honest review.
