Businessman. CEO. Head of household. Three titles that couldn’t be worse suited for me.
Smart. Curvy. Smoking hot. Three adjectives to describe the undercover FBI agent who just showed up on my doorstep demanding protection.
Unwilling to make promises I can’t keep, I’m faced with the biggest decision of my life. Avenge my family, or lose the only woman who’s ever cracked open my shielded heart.

Cabin 3 is the third book in the Steele Shadows Security series and it ended with a bang. These absolutely need to be read in order for a full understanding of the story and characters. This one was really fast paced and never let up until the last sentence.
Lexi & Gunner are both very closed off and mysterious characters, but they make each other open up and be vulnerable. Their chemistry was great, their banter, they were truly so cute together. Their beginning was tough and more complicated, but once they finally got together, the explosion was amazing.
The storyline in this one was complex with both what happens on Lexi's side and how it all ties up with the Steele family. The twists and turns in this one kept me on the edge of my seat. That final one though, I was not expecting that !!! Overall great series and worth the read.
🎧 The narration by Michael Reid & Amy Deuchler was once again really good. I really like both these narrators. I think they really fit well. We could feel their emotions and fears through their voices. Great performance.
✨️ Thank you to @amandamckinney for my gifted audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
A well written romantic suspense novel. Number 3 in the series about a family of brothers who own a huge security/bodyguard business set in the mountains. Our H/h don't meet for a few chapters and the back story has been ongoing throughout, with a romance for each brother in each book. It does stand alone, but I would recommend that you read from ;Cabin 1', so you understand about the family and the Knight Fox. The romance is pretty much 'insta' as soon as our couple see each other, though it is sort of slow burn, the main action takes place over a couple of days. There are a several of steamy romance scenes in the second half, though this book is all about the action and adventure. A good read.
Gunner and Lexi. I loved reading this story. The storyline is soo interesting, has so many twists. It will keep you on the edge of your seat and turning those pages.
Lexi needed help, she was undercover and she was found out. Gunner is on her case. They have Hot🔥chemistry.
4.25. This author knows how to construct a captivating romantic suspense story. Her writing style is appealing and characters have depth. She certainly managed to shock me with the reveal in this book- never saw it coming!
Once again, poor editing on these books. But, a pattern is emerging in Amanda McKinney's writing. Apparently, every character is exactly alike. The male leads are all immature, emotionally crippled, alcoholic womanizers with the social capacity of a rock. Every female lead is a fiesty, stubborn sex pot who somehow possesses the ability to make an emotionally unavailable man-child fall in love with her in a matter of 24 - 48 hours based on a few hours worth of interaction. *insert eye roll here* I mean, does Amanda know how to write anything else? We're getting cookie-cutter characters and the same cliché plot points in every single book.
All of the Steele Shadows Security books have had ridiculous, unbelievable things happen that force the reader to completely suspend disbelief beyond what you have to when reading fiction, but 'Cabin 3' takes the cake! (WARNING: SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT) Phoenix has been in a freaking coma for weeks after taking a bullet to the brain, but we're supposed to believe that he comes out of the coma, somehow miraculously has enough strength to even get out of bed, jump out of his hospital window, find car keys, drive out to his property, somehow know precisely where his brothers are on their three thousand acre land, bust in and shoot the person responsible for their father's death and his own, near-fatal gunshot wound? Not only is he doing something he should not be medically or physically capable of doing, but he just so happens to do it at the precise second a life was on the line and one second later, someone would have died? Come on! To make it even worse, in the very next chapter we're told the man needs physical therapy because he can't even hold a cup or zip a zipper, but he managed to drive a freaking car, hold a gun, and accurately shoot someone who was holding a hostage in front of them without hurting the hostage? Are you freaking kidding me? It ruins the author's credibility when she expects her readers to be dumb enough to swallow this bull crap. Yes, it's fiction, but it's not science fiction!

Cabin 3 is the third book in Amanda Kinney’s new Berry Springs spin of series STEELE SHADOWS SECURITY. The story is fast paced and intense from the start. It is about Gunner Steele and Lexi York. They are the main story and protagonists in this book, but I love that we also have the backstory which continues where the previous book left of – the search of Celeste and their father’s killer along with Lexi’s problem – being discovered as an undercover agent. The characters are complex and resilient; the plot is strong with unpredictable twists and turns that will keep you guessing the whole time. I loved that it was written in first person, dual POV. It was enjoyable, steamy, dark, suspenseful, heartfelt and heartbreaking read with such cleverly and brilliantly written plot twist(s).
Gunner Steele is an ex-military/Marine/sniper. Military life was whole his life. He has a hard time settling back into his roots and figuring out how to cope with the loss of his father/brother. Suddenly all the responsibilities fell on his shoulder: the CEO position, the business, taking care of his brothers etc. Gunner doesn’t like being vulnerable. He also lacks in communication skills. He is observant, hot headed – reacts and then thinks it through, but he is also charming, protective, loyal, possessive, loving, caring, vulnerable and tortured soul.
Lexi York is an undercover agent working for Astor Stone, but her cover gets blown, she gets fired from her job so she seeks refuge at Steele Shadows. She had less than perfect childhood. She is strong willed, brave, sassy, feisty, loving, caring, vulnerable and insecure.
Gunner and Lexi are truly amazing. They had a complicated start and meeting but after they got to know each other, they started to develop feelings and to see the real persons behind their mask and layers. They lit the pages with their chemistry, sassiness and the way they called each other out. They are each other’s match, sinfully sexy and intense. Neither of them in the beginning is looking for a relationship, but the feelings got involved. Their timing might be a little off with everything that was happening and because of Gunner’s revenge. They might not have seen eye to eye on some things but they made it work somehow. Gunner and Lexi are instantly drawn to each other but neither can explain what exactly is about her/him that gets to her/him. Lexi is his weakness but his strength too. They are both strong and stubborn with some emotional baggage. I love their relationship development; they were building some kind of friendship and then potentially became more. Lexi and Gunner's bond gets stronger the more time they spend together. Their banter was enjoyable and made them who they are. They push and challenge each other. They need to meet in the middle. I loved the development of this emotionally beautiful read and these two people.
Secondary characters are intriguing, engaging, funny and incredible. I just love their camaraderie, friendship and the way they have each other’s back and treat each other like a family. Wolf made me laugh several times and break the tension I felt while I was reading; Jagg too. I loved Jagg's connection with Steele brothers and their banter.
UTTERLY INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL AND HEARTBREAKING! It kept my attention at all times and I could not put it down. With an effortless writing, awe-inspiring details, and a journey of revenge, forgiveness, love, secrets, lies, mystery, self-discovery, the author takes us on an emotional and beautiful journey of the characters, their struggles and the road to their happiness. I highly recommend this book and whole series.
I read this with a rare excitement and eagerness to finish a series An ending I never saw coming. I love the dialogue Amanda is able to deliver on all of her books, over and over again. Many lines were so spot on, like this one as our h is looking at a couple of young adult women she notices; 'Both were one-hundred pounds of spin-class perfection, donning six-inch heels, designer suits and over-priced handbags. Both the living poster children for America’s great entitled youth.' This is so true and so funny to just say it the way it is. Since this is book three of a series that the reader needed to read one and two to get to this one, I will not rehash the story. But as with the other books the plot is in constant motion, weaving the building romance along with everything else going on. The story has a great flow to it and it is very well balanced with a strong thriller plot, romance and again, the excellent dialogue. You will fall in love with all of these strong and independent characters, who all have a lot of realism and depth to them. The fact that Gunner, our H, actually cried in the book, gave a real feel that he is actually human and not just a one dimensional character. Again the balance between a realistic murder mystery, passionate chemistry and funny one liners makes for just another awesome read that I did not want to put down. I am now waiting in anticipation of the next book that I hope is about Phoenix, there is a lot that can go on there after the ending to this series. This three book series definitely will be put on my reread shelf for the future. Highly recommend to read.
Cabin 3 is the third book in the Steele Shadow Security series. This series is based in the small, southern town of Berry Springs. The Steele brother’s father has died and the sons have returned from their lives to help take over the business. There seemed to be an underlying mystery that may have caused their dad to be murdered from the first book, which was not answered and there are underlying questions about their brother ‘supposed’ suicide and how that might have to do with with thier father’s murder. This book does answer those questions, but focuses on Gunner and Lexi.
Lexi has always wanted to be an agent. She worked hard and got herself in a position to track down a Russian spy, only she was outed somehow. Lexi knows she needs help and heads to Steele Shadow Security. Gunner has ended up taking care of the family’s business with his brother in the hospital. He is overwhelmed and struggling with his new role. Lexi confronts him and challenges him. Nothing is as it seems.
This is the last book in the trilogy of the Steele Family Security, however the author, Amanda McKinney has decided to continue the series focusing on other members of the business. The new books will be able to read as stand alones. I am looking forward to reading more about the men and women who work for Steele Family Security and especially what happens with Feen (the brother in the hospital). This book has lots of double crossing and twisting - enjoy. Cabin 3 by Amanda McKinney was a good read.
OH MY GOODNESS!! I absolutely LOVED this book!! This is the third book in the series and YES you need to read them in order as there are cliffhangers. And let me tell you just be glad that you don’t have to wait for the next book. Lexie is trying to be an undercover agent. She’s gone through all her training and the last thing she needs to do is observe someone and not let her cover get blown. When the guy doesn’t show up for work several days in a row she’s given 2 weeks to find him or she’s fired. At the end of 2 weeks things really take a turn for the worse. Let’s just say Lexi isn’t having the time of her life. Gunner is the second oldest Steele brother and the black sheep sort of speak. When Lexie shows up at their base of operation Gunner is the only one available to take her case and she specifically asked for him not to be her bodyguard. Gunner being a no nonsense guy tells her he’s it or she can leave. He doesn’t have time for her mouth and attitude. And boy does she have both. Will she be able to break Gunner? Will he live up to her assumptions and ‘obvious’ stereotype? Will she keep her job as an agent?
So many questions answered from the previous two books as this was suppose to be the final book BUT it’s not!! I’m so excited and can’t wait for the next book or books!!!! I absolutely LOVE the Steele brothers.
I received this as an ARC for my honest and voluntary review.
What a fantastic conclusion to the Night Fox storyline.. I was absolutley gobsmacked when I discovered who it was,I never even considered this person and was stunned !! Gunner takes the lead in this story,he is the troublemaker of the Steele brothers he always felt like the odd one out with his family. He was a delinquent as a teen and it was enlisting in the Marines that put him on the staright and narrow. Lexi has just been recruited by the company she works for as their new spy and her mission was to get info on a suspected Russian spy.By going undercover as one of his employees at the company he runs...she had a limited time to find the right intel on him and if she didn't she would be without a job, fired and left to fend for herself. She fails her mission and her cover is blown and she needs to hide, the only place she can think of to help her was the Steele brothers. But she doesnt wany Gunner to be the assigned man to protect her,as Gunner has a past with her sister. Yes Gunner is assigned to her regardless..They have an attraction that bubbles over as they try to solve the mystery of The NightFox and stop Lexi being hunted. Another really good book in this series I thoroughly enjoyed it...I never imagined how it would end and it was such a surprise. Loving Amanda Mckinney's imagination.. Brilliant 5 stars.
We all need a Steele brother in our lives! How did we get this far without them?? Cabin 3 is unfortunately the last one in the Steele Shadows trilogy and I would have liked it to be a bit longer. But only because I am not ready to say goodbye to them and their stories yet. It was a very fun read and even more action and suspense filled than the others. Lexi is one tough cookie. Sassy, independent and driven. A heroine of my liking. All the breadcrumbs spread around keep you guessing for the identity of the Knight Fox and the actual reveal at the end was quite surprising. My bet was on someone else. There was one person I did not expect meeting again but this is Berry Springs and anything can happen here. Gunner's search for himself was very touching. The walls around his heart finally fall away in the wake of his feelings for Lexi - and all that without being cheesy. Though I did find his name was used a litte too often (but maybe that's just me). I loved the cheerful interactions with the brothers. The broken finger incident was HILARIOUS! Its a solid murder mystery with smart bad guys and even smarter good guys and on top of that you even get a swoon-worthy hero and a steamy romance! BAM! Go. Read. Now!
-ARC was provided by the author and this is my honest review.-
The third and final installment of the Steele Shadows Security focuses on middle Steele brother, Gunner, the rebellious devil-may-care recluse who has begrudgingly been leading the family business since his older brother, Phoenix, was shot. He is trying his best to keep things together but his anger and search for the mysterious Knight Fox might just get him killed. That would be okay with him until hellcat Lexi walks into his life. Lexi is on the run after her undercover mission was outted to a Russian gangster. She seeks refuge in the only place she can think of Berry Springs with the man she hates but is the only one who can save her.
I have read all three of the Steele cabin trilogy and have greatly enjoyed the romantic thriller centered around these four tough brothers who put family first. Gunner is an interesting character who struggles more with internal turmoil and insecurities then the other brothers. Its a nice suspense even though I disliked the ending and who the killer is. They are stand alone novels that can be read without having read the first but the series follows a linear story from one to the next.
McKinney mentions a spin off series coming and I can not wait.
Lexi and Gunner's story encompasses book 3. Gunner is now in charge of Steele Shadows Security but, feels ill equipped to handle the day to day operations. Phoenix remains hospitalized and Celeste is still missing. Lexi is an undercover agent, for another security agency. She is tasked with uncovering information on a Russian spy, The Bear. When the Bear disappears, she fails her assignment, is fired and becomes an exposed agent. While on vacation, she sees The Bear and is approached by him. She rationalizes this as an opportunity to get her job back. But, The Bear has known who she was from the beginning and tries to kill her. She escapes after killing two of his bodyguards and flees to the Steele Shadows Security compound seeking protection. While the Steele family is still trying to determine who killed their father and shot their brother. It soon becomes evident that their two stories are connected. So, Gunner decides to go after the Bear and Knight Fox. The Bear will be found dead and the location of the Knight Fox will be identified. The identity of both will be revealed. Do you know who the Knight Fox is?

Yowza! Cabin 3 will throw you curve balls to dodge, take you for a hair raising rollercoaster of a ride, as it provides action, romance and suspense, with an out of left field home run ending that will make you a fan of Amanda McKinney's writing, if you aren't already one. Cabin 3 stars Lexi York as an in-training undercover operative that's been left out in the cold by her boss, Astor Stone. She was to monitor and acquire information on a Russian named Sergei Orlov, aka, Bear. Lexi's cover was blown and she is running for her life. She gets to Steele Shadows Security and is assigned Gunner, one of the four Steele brothers that are now running the company due to their father's murder. Lexi and Gunner's story ties in with the father's murder case that is developing in the background of books: Cabin 1 and Cabin 2. I highly recommend reading all three books to acquaint yourself with the characters, each brother's story, along with the father's untimely death/murder. I received an ARC from the author in return for my honest review.
Cabin 3 is non-stop action. The ongoing mystery finally comes to a head. Gunner Steele is the most intense of the brothers so far. He doesn't think he fits into the same mold as his brothers. Lexi seeks the protection of any of the Steele brothers except for the one she gets Gunner. Lexi is fiesty and strong with something to prove. She is determined to break through Gunner's armor.
The story moves fast and resolved the mystery that carried throughout the books so far. I will say the secret did surprise me. My mind went in a different direction. The story is tight and satisfying. The love the difference yet similarities in Gunner and Lexi. I found myself turning the page hating to put the book down.
Most definitely read Cabin 1, 2 and 3 in order. It is definitely the best way to do it. You will learn of the mystery and feel it build with each book. I found the resolution satisfying and plausible. Another must read by Amanda McKinney which I highly recommend. It is a perfect blend of substance, action and definitely romance.
4.5+ Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 CABIN 3 is where the plot really begins to thicken for the Steele brothers. Lexi York, finding herself left hanging out to dry and running for her life after a botched assignment, seeks out the brothers’ services. However, even at her wit's end, the last person she wants help from is Gunner Steele. Of course, when she comes to Steele Security for help, it’s Gunner or nothing. And the excitement and drama steadily build from there. The Steele brothers are on the cusp of finding their family’s nemesis and Lexi may be somehow involved. As things are finally coming to their long-awaited climax, you will not believe the plot twist of all plot twists. Did. Not. See. That. Coming! As an ending to this trilogy, this will certainly keep you on your toes. Gunner’s gruff, leave-me-alone attitude is front and center, but Lexi has enough hutzpah to stand up to the big guy and make a lasting impression. You definitely do not want to miss this climactic ending to this captivating story!
Cabin 3 by Amanda McKinney is a spectacular wrap-up of an amazing romantic suspense series. Ms. McKinney has provided readers with another book that will grab you at the first page and keep you reading way past your bedtime. The characters in this book are phenomenal. Lexi has worked her way into becoming an Astor Stone agent, if she can get through her trial mission. When her cover is blown, she goes to the best of the best, Steele Shadows Security. Gunner has enough on his plate, his father's murder, his brother in ICU with a bullet wound to the head, trying to run the family business and now he's saddled with a new client. Gunner and Lexi's story is packed with drama, humor, steamy sex, action and nail-biting suspense. I loved this book from start to finish and look forward to reading more from Amanda McKinney. Soon. Cabin 3 is book 3 of the Steel Shadows Security Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I really love this series, and this book is another great addition adding one more brother to the list of who falls under the spell of a challenging woman they’ve been charge with protecting. Gunner is next up, and man does he make it difficult. Lexi is probably one of the first women to be on equal footing with what she does for a living, and it takes a bit of story telling before we are up to speed on how these two are thrown together, and when they do, sparks fly and more mystery and twists happen that leaves you searching for The Who done it in this tangled web of one heck of a book. Im not going to spoil it, but damn if we aren’t lead down one path only to be floored with the realization of who has killed dad and severely injured Phoenix. Great well written storyline, can’t wait to read the next book. Very well worth the read!
Don't like the romances that much in these books. They are too quick to fully enjoy. Then it's typically, a 'I loved you, when I first saw you.scenerio. plus why is this prominent security company constantly failing? They are not very good. Oh but the spoiler I suspected it was that individual in book two.
Interesting and engaging but lacked luster in quick romance department. Plus Gunners theme of not feeling good enough or a 'good man'. The only thing he needed redemption for was what happened to Phoenix when they were teenagers. Otherwise he was already being the man he was supposed to be.
Rumors and assumptions should not have swayed him and the heroine into believing otherwise.
Anyway good read. It definitely was better than Cabin 2.
This series took a turn for the worst. I really enjoyed the first one. I liked the second one. But this one...I struggled just to finish. Plot holes I normally can overlook, if the story is good, were too obvious. The lack of chemistry with the leads was cringey. The couple doesn't even meet until page 80 something and the books only 234 pages long to begin with. And I'm sorry but the lack of any type of sense among the leads had me putting the book down and having to walk away often.
The only reason I didn't walk away from the book completely is I wanted to know the ending to wrap up the first two books. And what a let down. There is a twist that is good but how it's wrapped up has SO MANY PLOT HOLES!
This book soured the entire series for me and I definitely won't be reading Phoenix's story.
I enjoyed reading Cabin 3: Steele Shadows Security Book 3!!! All about Lexi York a woman in her late twenties who is an agent of Astor Stone, who got made by her client Bear. He tries has his body guards try to kill her, but she out smarts all of them and makes it home to Texas before they can kill her in Aruba. She goes straight to Steele Security for protection and gets Gunner Steele, just the man she tells Wolf she does not want. Read about Lexi & Gunner and see why their sexual tension just might get her killed. Lots of emotion, and some toe curling does occur!! This is the third book in this series, and you must start with the first to understand all the characters. There are four Steele brothers and each one is a force to be reckoned with!!! Incredible read!!! Can’t wait to read book four!!!
This is Cabin 3, the final instalment of the Steele Shadows Security series, but is it? The author writes at the end of a full novel coming about Phoenix so I am looking forward to that. This book is about Gunner and Lexi. Lexi is an in-training undercover operative who’s cover has been blown but her company supposedly, Aster Stone. It turns out that she is looking for the same Russian, Sergei Orlov, aka, Bear as the Steele men. Once her cover is blown and her life at risk, Lexi turns to Steele Security and is assigned to Gunner. Lexi and Gunner's story ties in with Gunner’s family, namely his dad’s murder and the attempted murder of his brother Phoenix. The book is fast paced. Well done.
Cabin 3 is occupied by a former secret agent on a crime lord’s hit list. Steele Shadows Security ramps up the suspense in this fast-paced story. Gunnar Steele is protecting an agent who failed to infiltrate the circle of a nasty Russian crime czar. This book has more twists and turns than 1 & 2, because Lexi has an impressive set of secret-agent skills that make her more of an equal to her protector — and she’s just as stubborn as he is. Even though she’s a handful for Gunnar to protect, he has pressing family mysteries — like who murdered his father and tried to kill his brother. All the issues, for Lexi and the Steele family, rush to a breathtaking conclusion. I couldn’t stop reading till I reached the mind-boggling end!
I love the berry springs series, this series is a close second. I think I'm a little burned out on how "alpha" these guys are. This lead male character was exceptionally alpha, which had me skipping ahead a lot. He was abrasive, crude, crass and self destructive to the extent of endangering himself and the person he was to protect. (God, I sound like an 80 yr old church lady calling someone crude and crass, but those are the best words) I found my self speed reading to just get to the end of the book. The next book is supposed to be about the eldest brother (a.k.a the alpha'est) dun, dun dun! Of course I'll read it, I might even complain a little, but of course I'll still read and recommend it.
I was and wasn’t expecting the ending...finally knowing who Knight Fox is, I suspected that in book 1. I was surprised by who showed up to save them...sorry that was so unrealistic... I can’t even find words for that.
I’m curious though that each man has found his “love” but the woman don’t interact and there is zero mention of them in any book but their own. They don’t live in the mansion - safest place right? Nope they just fade in the back. All of the brothers are unique but the constant reference to Gage talking about boobs when he’s in a relationship was insulting. Not once, not one time were the women mentioned and yes that bothered me.
Regardless I’ll read Phoenix and be done with these books
A new author for me, I truly enjoyed this series, and this one tied up all the loose ends with a bit of a shocker I didn't expect. Wow! So why only 2 stars? Because I'm bored with the format. Each brother falls for a client and it's instant love. Okay, intense situations form tight bonds, but I wish McKinney would've dove a little deeper into each brother's psyche.
The storyline was interesting and held my attention, I just wanted more. More feeling especially how they all excepted the shocking twist in the end like it was no big deal, just another baddie that they takedown. And spoiler alert: it's someone they are close to! But there is one more brother, Phoenix, and I really want to read his HEA.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Gunnar is now CEO with his older brother Fenn down and he’s not happy about it. He knows he’s not capable but he has to step up. Add to that Celeste is still missing so he has to hunt for her and do her job too.
Lexi on her first job sent out as an agent is to report back on Bear, she’s discovered, fired and then stalked by Bear. She flees to Steele Security for protection. Gunnar is the only one available to watch her. Neither she nor Gunnar are happy about the situation.
This finishes the series with a real twist. Of course, way to quickly Lexi and Gunnar are together, then they’re not and then they are again. This story/relationship just needed more of everything, it was way too rushed.
Cabin 3 was by far my favorite of this series. Gunner Steele is a lost soul looking for revenge on the person who killed his father and turned his world upside down. In the middle of his search to find the killer, he gets an assignment, Lexi York. Lexi claims to be an undercover agent whose cover was blown and now her life is in danger.
This book has it all; suspense, intrigue, and of course sex. It is very well written, great characters who you really get to know. Amanda keeps you guessing until the end as to who the killer is. I am looking forward to reading more of the stand alone books featuring other characters from this series.
