Stryker, a career Navy SEAL working with an elite team, gets drawn into a mission with the men of Fire Lake. When he crosses paths with Gator's friend, John, Stryker - a lone wolf all his life - is drawn to John's light and warmth.
Stryker is torn between duty and desire, and finds himself navigating a world filled with old secrets and new dangers. As his bond with John deepens, long-buried truths surface, challenging John to confront his past and embrace a future where love may be his greatest strength or his ultimate vulnerability.
Stryker can't fight the pull any longer and succumbs to love, where he finds loyalty, and something he can't believe is family.

To all my readers: Thank you. There’s no escaping the truth – without all of you, there wouldn’t be me, the author. Your support and kind words have taken me from being a new author who was unsure and panicked to an author with over twenty books under her belt. Okay, I’m still unsure and panicked, but I’m a work in progress. (Takes a sip of wine.)
I love sharing my stories with you and hearing how my characters have touched you and how you’ve cheered them on, cried with them, and even wanted to knock some sense into a few. Your encouragement has inspired me to continue on my writing journey. All the late nights, missed events, and looming deadlines have been worth it, knowing these stories have entertained and stayed with you long after the book was finished. Michelle XO
❤️ Stryker witnesses Elias and Fletcher's engagement watching a violin player take his breath away mesmerised. Stryker had baggage from his military days in Iraq. John 36 yrs had moved into town and was part of the Lake House community. Starting a business in woodworking with his business partner Jason.
A great start as Stryker and John meet eyes before John disappears for his inhaler. Stryker was a SEAL always on the move, now his friends drag him in to stay but having a handsome incentive too. John has a 20 yrs mystery of his parents murder with new info brought forward.
This is a fantastic story to read with lots happening that kept me glued. I loved Stryker as he goes all protective over John, but John had his moments too. Their romance goes to the next level when dangers and threats are explosive😉. This not your average story as some characters have special talent’s that they use to help others. I’ve loved other books in this series and this is amongst them. Told with both povs with all the members of the lake house help with their talents to catch the bad guys.
Reviewed for Love Bytes – 4.5 hearts. Serving as a SEAL, Stryker was happy to be a loner where relationships are concerned because he could get killed in the field. Then he retired, found his old team, re-connected with his cousin, and found John. John is the one he can’t keep away from. Then, John’s past triggers every protective instinct in Stryker. Losing could make him a loner again; winning could give both men everything they never thought possible. This story is an admirable additional book seven to the Fire Lake series. It includes burley men fighting a dangerous foe with military efficiency while lighting personal emotional fires. What’s not to like? And it is worthy of its 4.5 heart rating. However, it left me with questions about what is to come. The story is told in the third person, present tense, from the viewpoints of Stryker and John. I can’t comment on technicalities because, quite frankly, I was too engrossed to take notice. Worldbuilding has accumulated over the many books in the series. It’s a case of military men with baggage in their backgrounds. Service brothers are family, dealing with their pasts whilst, finding partners. Seeing that the Noah Project featured more in this book was superb, and a significant step forward was made in the mystery. More people with abilities are discovered, and in true style, drama ensues. Exciting stuff. John and Stryker make a terrific couple, but I’m not going to give any details about John’s past, (other than he has survivor's guilt) or the events that happen throughout the book because it would provide some humungous spoilers. Suffice it to say that it made good reading. The things that went through my head, though, are: - The stories seem to be written to a formula. On the one hand, this is great because there is anticipation over what drama is to come, and you know it’s on the way. On the flip side, the element of surprise is lessened because you know it will happen, and there can be telltale signs. Like the ensign wearing the red suit in Star Trek is for the chop. But it still makes good reading. Then, Brick and the boys are too damned good to make a mess of things, so I had my pom-poms at the ready. The Noah Project – it is excellent that strides forward are made. However, more people with abilities are revealed, making me wonder how many more couples will pair up. Thereby, how many more books will be in the series? There’s definitely another one, as there’s a snippet at the end, making it series book eight. Then again, with the players on the board, it could be the last, one from las,t or, next installment of who knows how many, depending on the author’s inspiration. This poses another conundrum, as I love the series. I don’t want to say goodbye to the boys, but I want to see the back of the Noah Project, the mystery of Brick's aunt solved, and the boys star in another series that doesn’t include the Noah Project. In all, I’m in the position of elated at having read a super book, yet frustrated over having to wait even longer for the overriding arc to conclude. This book was provided free in exchange for a fair and honest review for Love Bytes.
John, the woodworking business partner of Jason, has eyes for Stryker and the big former navy SEAL has eyes for him in return. But the reach of the Noah Project still has arms as we quickly discover that 38 year old John is adopted, rescued from a Noah experiment house, but was never told. Now people are hunting him, kidnapping him (twice, even!). Stryker protectively moves in to guard the other man, and their relationship deepens. Meanwhile the Fire Lake group locates an encampment of Noah grounds and goes to take them down.
I felt like this could have been edited heavily for both grammar and continuity errors. John's age is repeatedly said to be 38, then his parents were killed 18 years ago. But then in the flashback, we are told he was 16 when that happened. The math ain't mathing here. I noticed a couple of sentences that should have been rewritten to be clearer, but after 30% I was skimming quickly because the story was getting to be a drag, and predictable.
just barely 2 stars. At this point I just want to finish the series and never think about it again.
“Stryker had the face of an angel and the body of a god, but his gaze told of demons lurking within.” I’ve been curious about Stryker since he showed up and he did not disappoint. He’s every bit as protective and mysterious as I hoped, but it’s his softer and gentler sides that won me over. John was a true joy to get to know. So brave, strong, and yes protective, he is the real star of this book for me, and now this wonderful found family has grown again.
This story just sucks you in and before you know it you care for the main characters and hot story!
This whole series is wonderful and Stryker is no exception. His and John's relationship is complex and hot! Now I can't wait for Morris's story. Loved this book. 🔥🎉📚😺
I've read all of M. Tasks books .Read Brighton series. Now everyone of the Fire Lake Series. These books are so wonderful, enlightened, full of love, suspense. You want them to come out the good side, with lots of love and strength. Great stories. They need to be read.
I love this series! Action filled plots, heroes you can cheer for, and the kind of love and passion that only a skilled storyteller can create. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the next one!
Another great book and we're getting closer to the Noah Project! They keep rescuing more Noah children and adults. The 73 year old lets you know this has been going on for a long time. Stryker falls fast and hard for John and keeping him safe turns out to be a full time job!
This journey of love and challenge so far has been a joy to read. This shows the world that no matter where or how people come together. Or what challenges come your way it will always get better with love. From me as always 💘
Stryker is the seventh book in the Fire Lake series and it's another wonderful read. Stryker and John are just perfect together, such chemistry between them and it's full of suspense.
I thought this was another good addition to the Fire Lake Series. I enjoyed this book and I thought that Stryker and John were great together, and their chemistry was off the charts. I’ve read each of the books in the series but it took me a few to work out who was who, as it was was months ago that I read Gator and granted their found family keeps on growing. I love the suspense aspect of these stories. I thought it was beautiful moment when Stryker suggested to John their bed is a safe space to open up to each other about their pasts, and the cause of their nightmares so they can help each other heal. The letter that John finally opened and read from his father after all these years was so beautiful and definitely the perfect time for him to read his father’s heartfelt and impactful words. I just love this found family that they’ve created, and that they’d do anything for each other if needed. I enjoyed the snippet of the next book which made me even more interested in reading it when it’s released. I’d recommend this book, series and author to others.
