Before I write my review, I just wanted to thank you so much for the opportunity to read the ARC of this book after loving the first of the duet so much!

I am so in love with the characters, main and supporting. I am so invested in their purpose, their fight, their lives, their love, their friendships and family... They have profound depth, making it easy to connect with and empathise with them.

Their struggles are truly heart-wrenching, but each event is crucial for the story's impact. H.L. Hamilton skillfully depicts war's intricacies, destruction, and loss of lives in a captivating manner that immerses you in the narrative alongside the characters, so that you truly understand what is happening and why it affects the characters the way it does. I love how the relationships continued forming in a very natural way - not just the romantic relationship between Lark and Locke, but the various friendships and chosen-family ties that are formed throughout. I felt so deeply for everyone.

The writing immersed me completely, making everything feel authentic and profoundly meaningful. The author has masterfully crafted a gripping sense of urgency and tension, evoking a range of emotions that were constantly exploding and mixing and forming such a deep connection to the narrative. Every chapter was exceptional, leaving my heart completely destroyed in the best of ways! I swooned, laughed and cried A LOT.

The conclusion and prologues were beautifully written, it was paced perfectly, nothing felt rushed or unfinished by the end. Overall, this book is simply phenomenal.

I'm absolutely enchanted by this book, by this series, and will wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone, on this side of the veil and the other!

I think this was a great read and tied up the duology quite nicely.

Locke was such an amazing guy for his friends, people, and Lark specifically. He was so supportive of her, even when he didn't like the crazy things she was doing. And speaking of Lark, wow she had so much character growth throughout the two books!

There were a few surprises, quite a few heart wrenching moments, and some happy times the characters grabbed with both hands to relish.

That all being said, it was looooooooooong. Not bad, but it just took a while to read through it. I wish a few things would have been rearranged a bit and then this was divided into two books, making this a trilogy.

Now even though Lark and Locke's story is wrapped up, I could TOTALLY enjoy more books from the other characers' POV. Also, I would LOVE a series or book with a new Zodiac member having to go through the Rune Trials.

Read if you love:
-Fae
-Magic
-Found family
-Fated mates
-Shadow daddy
-Knife play
-"Good girl"
-Spicy romance

Thank you to the author for an eARC of this book. My thoughts are entirely my own.

Of Hexes and Hatred by H.L. Hamilton is a dazzling and intense sequel to The Curses Duet that sweeps you into a world of magic, war, and unforgettable characters. What stood out to me the most in this book was the way Hamilton masterfully escalates both the emotional stakes and the tension of the plot. From the first chapter, you're thrown into a conflict that feels incredibly urgent, and that momentum never lets up.

Lark’s character growth throughout the duology is one of the more satisfying elements in the story. She goes from a young woman burdened by her circumstances to someone who owns her power and fights for her people, all while grappling with the reality of her own mortality. Locke, her steadfast and supportive partner, provides the perfect counterbalance, making their romance feel both grounded and heartwarming, despite the chaos surrounding them.

The world-building is rich and immersive, particularly the Zodiac element, which adds a fascinating layer to the fae magic. The political intrigue and alliances with other courts are crafted with such care that you can’t help but feel the weight of every decision Lark and Locke make. The intricacies of the war with Scorpio and the desperate search for allies really pulled me in, making the stakes feel incredibly high.

What I loved most, though, was the emotional punch this story delivers. There are several moments that made me pause and take a deep breath, particularly a death scene that was beautifully written and hit hard. The balance between action and those deeply personal moments is what makes this book shine. Hamilton’s writing is evocative and poignant, pulling you into the characters' struggles and triumphs in a way that leaves you thinking about them long after the final page.

Overall, Of Hexes and Hatred is a thrilling, emotional rollercoaster of a read. If you love intricate world-building, complex characters, and a perfect blend of romance, action, and fantasy, this duology is a must-read. It’s a fantastic conclusion that leaves you both satisfied and yearning for more stories set in this universe.

I loved reading more of Lark and Locke. HL Hamilton has such a way with words. But the pain, heartache and all the emotions this book invoked in me, was a wild ride!! I regret nothing!!!

“We won’t ever abandon you, Lark.
You’re family. We fight for our family. You have a huge role in this to play yet, and we will be with you every step of the way. You’re worth that and so much more. Please don’t forget that.”

One of my favorite quotes from of hexes and hatred

Of Hexes and Hatred, the final book in The Curses Duet by HL Hamilton, is a breathtaking conclusion that doesn’t shy away from the complexities of war, sacrifice, and survival.
With war looming over Loc Valen and the Water Court facing conscription from the ruthless Scorpio, Locke and Lark find themselves increasingly isolated. Desperation pushes them to seek alliances beyond their borders, venturing into a court even more merciless than their own.

Hamilton skillfully escalates the tension, as the stakes are higher than ever. Scorpio’s relentless pursuit of Lark and the impending doom over Port Azure create a palpable sense of urgency. As Lark grapples with her mortality, the narrative becomes a poignant exploration of courage and resilience in the face of inevitable loss.

The emotional depth of the characters is where this book truly shines. Lark's struggle and determination resonate deeply, making her journey unforgettable. The sacrifices made by the characters are heart-wrenching, and the bloodshed feels both tragic and necessary, driving home the harsh realities of their world.

The writing is beautifully evocative, pulling you into the heart of the conflict. I found myself shedding tears as the story unfolded, each chapter gripping and emotionally charged. Hamilton doesn’t hold back, and by the end, I felt like a piece of me had been taken with the characters.

This is a beautifully told story and a fitting conclusion to a fantastic duology. It’s a testament to the power of love, loyalty, and a family you get to choose. If you’re looking for a series that combines fantasy with profound emotional impact, this is a must-read.

I am thankful to have had the opportunity to receive this book as an ARC read in exchange for my honest review.

Of Hexes and Hatred follows the story of curse Prince Cancer and his soulmate Lark. Book 1 ends with Lark figuring out how to break their now joined curse.

I’ll be completely honest I was heavily falling asleep while reading this book. It took me a very long time to get through.

In book 1 I loved the elements of the Zodiac and fae, but something in this book was heavily lacking for me. As I witnessed in book 1 there were lots of typos and errors - both grammatical and with character names which drove me a little crazy. Could’ve definitely used another eye with editing!

I liked the idea of camaraderie between Locke, Larke, Lennox, Lenore and Aspen - but their relationships to me just seemed very surface level. I found it hard for me to develop any kind of emotional attachment to the characters and I’m usually an emotional gal. I would’ve loved to learn more about their lives to maybe give me some more insight into these characters and their development.

I typically LOVE any battle/war scenes in a fantasy book and they keep me on the edge of my seat - but unfortunately in all the ones they were just a bit boring for me personally.

I understand as a duet the book is made to move along quicker - I would’ve loved to see/learn more of the other courts and their abilities! This book was still primarily focused only on the water court and a bit of the air court which I did enjoy!

Overall I’d say this is a decent read for someone starting out in fantasy who wants to dip their toes.

Of Hexes and Hatred by H.L. Hamilton was a fantastic read! If you’re into fantasy with a strong female lead, beautiful romance (with a perfect dose of smut), amazing world-building, and great character development, this book should be on your list.

The author’s debut book, Of Curses and Contempt, has done a great job at setting the stage perfectly and gripped my attention from the very first pages. The sequel, Of Hexes and Hatred, builds on that foundation beautifully, continuing the story with even more depth and excitement.

First off, the heroine is so amazing and funny, despite all the hardships she had to endure since birth. She’s powerful in so many ways, smart, and someone you can really root for. It’s refreshing to see a character like her taking charge and kicking butt throughout the story.

The world-building in this book is top-notch. The author really knows how to create a vivid, magical world that pulls you in. Everything feels so detailed and well-crafted, from the elemental magic to the political intrigue.

The characters are well-developed, too. I especially loved the relationship between Locke and Lark. It’s built on trust and respect, which makes their bond feel genuine and touching. Watching their relationship grow was one of my favorite parts of the book (my second favorite were all the spicy scenes).

The storytelling is also impressive. The plot moves at a great pace with plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked. The way she ties everything together is really satisfying.

Overall, Of Hexes and Hatred is a must-read if you’re into fantasy. Definitely give it a try!

H.L. Hamilton's "Of Hexes and Hatred" flawlessly continues the story of Lark and Locke, pulling readers back to the beautifully detailed realm of the Water Court in the midst a growing conflict in Loc Valen. OF HEXES AND HATRED is utterly thrilling and unputdownable romantasy with a riveting and elegant crafted plot that had me in the edge of my seat all the time! H. L. Hamilton's second book in the Curses Duet engages in a mature development in her story, merging the fanciful with the meaningful in a way that isolates her in the world of current fantasy fiction!
.
H. L. Hamilton's story begins with a tangible feeling of urgency! The stakes are higher than ever as Lark and Locke find themselves in a world where the boundary between friend and foe blurs and trust is a luxury they cannot afford! The complicated political relationships and the impending danger of Scorpio's conscriptions give a lot of tension and suspense that pulls the story ahead with unstoppable intensity!
.
The trope of found family is handled delicately, focussing the relationships that grow in the midst of suffering! The characters' relationships, both platonic and romantic, evolve organically, allowing readers to feel emotionally concerned in their destiny, a fated mated romance that simmers off the page, relentless, heart-stopping actions and a delicious hero!!!
.
The book is a riveting combination of action, romance, and political intrigue, with a depth and maturity that will appeal to both experienced readers and newbies. Hamilton has created a story that is thought-provoking and amusing! H. L. Hamilton's OF HEXES AND HATRED held me up at night, saying "one more chapter" till the morning rose, and I couldn't stop reading. This book is a brilliant compulsive book and my new fantasy addiction. It is completely fascinating, fiercely romantic, and compulsively addicting.

H.L. Hamilton's "Of Hexes and Hatred" is a remarkable masterpiece that will always have a unique place in my heart. If you want a novel that will steal you away and take you on a quest of love, hardship, and remembrance this is the book for you.
.
I was absolutely fascinated from the very first page! Hamilton's writing is simply magical—it elicits all of your emotions. The raw emotions, smart banter, and complicated associations between the characters construct a stunning structure that is exhilarating and heartbreaking.
.
Lark and Locke's adventure is beyond all levels of incredible. The chemistry between these two is astounding, and their banter is to die for. I found myself smiling, laughing, and grieving alongside them as they established dangerous waters of the Water Court and encountered the ever-present threat of Scorpio's dominion. The depth of their love and the intensity of their friendship are brilliantly captured, and you can't help but applaud for them.
.
There are several twists and turns that keep you guessing, and just when you think you know what's going to happen next, Hamilton shocks you with yet another story twist. Hamilton has clearly poured her heart and energy into creating a universe that is substantial and vivid. I also want to praise Hamilton on how she elaborates the darker portions of the novel. The curse, fights, and sacrifices are all presented with great sympathy and nuance. This book's emotional depth, as well as its themes of love, loyalty, and courage, make it truly unforgettable.

First off, Thank you Holly for the opportunity to once again get a ARC of your second book. It's been amazing being a part of your success as an author.

Of Hexes and Hatred has been a wonderful and painful conclusion to the Curses Duet. Hamilton does a wonderful job with her writing style that makes you feel immersed into her world. The way she cultivates and builds this fantastical universe is amazing.

Her characters are so unique but also so relatable. You can really see the development in Larke and how much she's grown from book two. She really js a fearless FMC and the MMC Locke is even more captivating in this duet than he was in the first book which is saying a LOT (if you read my review of book one, you'll know what I mean ;) ) The relationship they share is beautiful and heart-wrenching.

Overall, Hamilton create a wonder ending that left no dry eyes and if you're into the adult Romantasy genre this duet is PERFECT for you. Just make sure you have tissues nearby.

Also ps. Her covers for both books are so wonderfully done.

This is the perfect ending to an amazing series. I cant even begin to praise this book highly enough.
I went into this excited and so ready to see how it would all play out. It exceeded my expectations.

H.L Hamilton sucks you in immediately by staring exactly where book one ended. There's twists, heartbreak, joy, love, laughter, magic. I cried more times than I'm willing to admit. If you're looking for a series with a love that lasts through harrowing circumstances this series is for you. I loved watching Lark and Locke grow not only as a couple but as characters in their own right.

The world that's been created is stunning. The magic system is intriguing. I loved seeing how Lark becomes so confident and sure of her self as it goes on. I loved how it toes the line of whether it's moral to fight to defend what you love even if it means people get hurt and seeing characters have to face what they've done and accept that sometimes the way to saving everyone isn't sunshine and rainbows. I can't praise this book enough.

Thank you so much for the ARC of this!!!!

After reading this duet, I can honestly say that this author deserves all the love! The curses duet will forever be imprinted in my brain and the banter between Locke and Lark will be my dreams and goals with my husband to be.

Of Hexes and Hatred is by far one of my favourite reads this year and will live in my head and heart for a long time to come.

"This side of the veil and the other"

Lark and the court of rebels still have a lot of battles to face as they try to end Scorpio's reign. The curse is in full swing and Lark keeps feeling little pieces of herself die each time it takes hold. Locke is in denial and spends countless hours trying to find Plan A so that Lark doesn't have to sacrifice herself for the greater good.

When I tell you that this lady's writing has made me feel all the feelings! I have not sobbed this much since Liam died in Fourth Wing!!!! Hexes had me in a chokehold and I am so sad that this journey is over. It was perfect and I couldn't have imagined a better ending for them.

Amazing. H.L. Hamilton knocked it out of the park! The transitions from book 1 to book 2 were seamless. There is so much character growth (and not just for the main characters). Plus the details in all the secondary characters and secondary story lines. The author has you connecting with many characters for different reasons.

Book 1 (Of Curses and Contempt) was my first dark romance fantasy, and it opened quite a worm hole for me (not that I am complaining, I was stuck in a no reading phase for YEARS).

Of Hexes and Hatred has many twists and you’re never really sure what to expect, but it was a smooth read that kept my interest the entire time. There were so many emotions that the characters felt that were so well described, as the reader, you felt them too.

5 stars just doesn’t seem like enough. This book (and series) is a good starter for those entering the dark fantasy/romance world, AND it’s also good for those already invested in the dark fantasy/romance world.

I loved this book so much I finished in two days 🤗 it would have been sooner but I did have to adult and take care of my littles 😊

I had the absolute pleasure of being selected to ARC Read this FANTASTIC Book 📖 It was done beautifully and kept me guessing at every turn. I’m currently typing through tears 😭 please bear with me. I loved how natural the characters relationships were formed and not just romantically but family and friendships. Nothing felt forced. It wasn’t terribly spicy but it was just enough for the storyline to make sense. The dreaded last 100 pages never came thank the goddess 🙏🏼 even in those last pages nothing felt rushed and I absolutely loved the conclusion 😊🥹🤗

My only complaint was I would have loved the story to continue but realistically I’m a fan for life

I just finished this duology the second being lucky enough to be an ARC reader

I enjoyed the Zodiac element of this fantasy world with fae, it was a unique addition. Now I will say I loved book one a bit more but still enjoyed this book only removed a star because I do think book one was better, for me at least. I will say the ending portion of this book definitely had me emotional at times and that last "redemption" spin I admit did take me a bit by surprise.

I will also add that I read many books with death and despair but the one death in this book the entire scene from death to funeral etc had me really hit in the feels and I say out of most books I've read, this scene was well written and thought out and the author knew how to make it impact you. I was sad about some otherw too but the one was much more impact.

Wow. I was lucky enough to be chosen to be an arc reader for the second half of the Curses duet and it has been a roller coaster. I won’t lie, after the cliffhanger we were left on with the first book I was expecting a dive right back into the action. It took me some time to really get into this book but it was worth it.

I adore the relationship that continues to build between Lark and Locke, the friendships that grow deeper between Lark and the others. The genuine reactions that the characters have in situations give the story more meaning and makes everything that much more gut wrenching at times.

I was caught off guard by the twists that seemed to come out of nowhere. I cried at times, I laughed, I grieved the end of this duet like it was a friend. I hope everyone else that has the time to read this series takes the time to.

Ever since reading Of Curses and Contempt, I have been early awaiting the concluding part of this story and it did not disappoint!

Of Hexes and Hatred hits the ground running, with stakes now at an all-time high for Lark, Locke and Loc Valen as a whole. Choices have to be made, and risks taken, as characters fight for their home and the people they care about the most. Hamilton has hit the sweet spot with pacing, moving things along quickly - fitting when characters are gearing up for the biggest fight of their lives - but mixing in moments of reprieve and reflection. In these moments, the relationships between characters are reinforced, ultimately making it all the more heart-breaking that not everyone makes it out alive.

As with the first book the world-building is fantastic, with Hamilton building on the foundations she laid previously to bring even more depth to this incredible world full of elemental magic. There is a healthy dose of political intrigue, a delicious romance with a morally grey mmc, and a beautiful found family. It is the latter of these which, for me, was truly at the heart of the story, with the love and support of the people around Lark being key to helping her grow in confidence and truly step into her power.

This is a wonderful conclusion to a brilliant duology, which I will never cease to recommend to anyone who loves fantasy books. And I'm also going to keep hoping that there may be a return to Loc Valen in the cards one day, perhaps following a certain golden retriever called Aspen?!

Of Hexes and Hatred - book 2 of the Curses duology.

This is a dark fantasy romance. A world separated into four courts. Water, Air, Fire and Earth. The story of Lark and Locke began in Of Curses and Contempt. If you haven’t read book one, stop, and go read book one.
Lark, a woman who grew up in the Water court with no magic, only to discover she can control the elements of all four courts. Locke, Prince Cancer, the Crowned Assassin, is trying to make up for the evil deeds he was forced to do and save the woman he loves.
Their relationship began as enemies to lovers then back to enemies and finally back to lovers again. They are soulmates and are embracing it, with lots of spicy time. They have become a team, ready to face the upcoming war and the curses hanging over their heads.
With Locke’s curse activated, Lark is slowly dying because she loves him. Scorpio hunts Lark ( the queen’s mark) to end her curse leaving devastation in her wake with the help of her cohort Pisces (who I think I hated more than Scorpio). Lark is coming into her power, learning to control all her elements, but she feels guilty for wanting to live and love Locke and to fight to save her friends when her death is what’s needed.
This is a story of found family. The relationship Lark has with each member of the inner circle of the court of rebels has grown naturally from book one. Starting out with distrust and misunderstanding, it has grown into friendship, trust and love. Lark finally has the family she deserves and something to fight for. But war brings heartache and sacrifice.
I loved that our band of rebels got to enjoy some good moments in between all the bad ones. The banter was amazing between Lark and Locke and also between Lark and Aspen.
Highly recommend this book if you are looking for a completed story. Fantasy. Spicy Romance. Found Family. Fated Mates. Strong female lead. Morally Grey hero who would do anything to save his love.

An amazing conclusion to the Curses Duet! H. L. Hamilton built a complex world and her words pull you in so deeply you don’t want to leave it. This book was filled with loss, redemption, and realization of potential.

Lark and Locke grow so much from one book to the next. Be prepared to be emotional, have tissues, and fall deeply into the end of this series.

One of my favorite parts!

“I love you all.” I choked on the words. I squeezed Lenore and Locke’s hands. “Thank you all for something I’d never had before. A family. I’d never had someone besides my father, and maybe Eldan. Now I look around and I see happiness. And beauty. Fun. Love. I see a life that I finally get to live with you all at my side, and I by yours.”

Firstly, if you please, a round of applause for H. L. Hamilton. This book tied off the duopoly and the story of Lark and Locke so nicely. So many twists, edge of your seat , nail biting moments. I laughed, I cried, I cursed but ultimately what an exhilarating ride. If you love fae, magic, zodiac signs, FOUND FREAKIN FAMILY, soul/fated mates, the smutty spice that brings you all the toys…binding , shadow play, knives, and praise….oh yes it’s a 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ fire up in here! All I can say is if/when we get more from this universe I am here for it!

This book comes out 8/23 and I highly recommend it! Grab it as soon as you can and if you haven’t read Of Curses and Contempt I would recommend reading them in order but yes if you haven’t read it please do so !

I was lucky to be given a chance to read the eARC of the book, thank you so much for the opportunity!

Let me start off with wow, if you love books that give, this is it. It was long but every chapter was worth it, with exploring the zodiacs and this adventure. Larks growth was amazing and I want to add Aspen has a special place in my heart. Iykyk!! Locke pass all the checks with a morally grey character who takes no sh** when it comes to their partner. The pace was pretty great and as long as you took your time you could truly take in all the details given. The author did a great job with taking me on a voyage and getting to know every one of the characters. The book drops Aug. 23, 2024, don’t miss out! Add it to your calendars.

Shut the front door! That was amazing. HL Hamilton pulled me in from the start with book 1, Of Curses & Contempt, the world building, the twists & turns, the tension.....
Now we have book 2, Of Hexes and Hatred, which continues the story and swoon worthy romance of Lark and Locke, along with their friends, dealing with war & sacrifice.
But this book! It stepped up to the plate! The pace was fast, the fight scenes were fantastic, the spicy scenes were absolutely delicious, the banter was excellent, the "I'll burn the world for you" vibes and badassary was top notch, and so many more quotable quotes that I just loved.
Overall an absolutely fantastic book and duology. Everything was wrapped up well and dare I ask....can we have a book about Aspen next? Love to see more of this fantasy world.
I received an arc of this book and all opinions are my own.

Lark went through so much and so did everyone else in this book. I still love Aspen...❤ This was a great read and more spice than book one 🌶😉🌶! Lol I really enjoyed the new characters, loved their personalities. You made it easy to relate to a lot of the character's and made it easy to hate the bad one's. I cried at some of the book, it pulled on my heart strings 😪. You opened up my world to fantasy reading, thank you for that! You blew me away again with book 2, I don't want to give any spoilers because a lot happens in this book and it was fantastic. Thank you for letting be an ARC reader for this book as well, can't wait to put it on my shelf!!

I have been trying to find the words for this book. I don’t think I have them, I loved this even more than Curses. I cried, I laughed so hard I woke the baby, I raged, and I fell in love with the characters all over again from book one. I absolutely cannot wait for the hardcover to come out so I can put it on my shelf beside Curses. I can tell you now this is a story I will revisit from time to time in my life, I will never get sick of reading this. I wouldn’t complain if there were side stories of some of the characters 😉

So first things first, I loved the book and I really appreciate Holly’s writing and hard work to producing this duet. I am not happy that Holly broke my heart with a few characters and I won’t spoil it. I have given 4 stars because although I love the book, book one will be my favourite in this duet. I think more characters should have received spotlight and Scorpio did not get enough spotlight she deserved, nor did I feel satisfied with her ending. Holly, please write a book on Scorpio alone 🙏🏻🙏🏻 I would love to have read more on her character development

Another 10/10 book for H L Hamilton. 3 spicy scenes in the first 50 pages! The love, the heartbreak, the friendship, the spice. This book is an extension of the first diving deeper into the friendships and relationships which makes the heartbreak all the more heartbreaking. We even get more details on the Scorpio queen herself. This was another one that I could not put down.

I cannot wait for her next book. Although not the curses duet as this series is complete, I’m sure it will be just as captivating.

My favorite author by far!

Of hexes and hatred is the conclusion to Lark and Locke's story. It was an intense and thrilling ride. Lark and Locke needed each other, but Lark was also determined to keep her safe. Sacrifices had to be made, and alliances had to be formed. The end of the book had me on the edge of my seat, anxiously anticipating where the story would take me. I think it was so well crafted and was full of emotion.
