Wicked Sons #7

Kidnapping Cordelia

Rate this book
Out of the frying pan…

When Muir Anderson leaves London to escape the rumours surrounding his involvement in the death of Lord Richmond, he thinks the worst is over. Returning to Scotland to face his father, the Earl of Morven is not an enticing prospect, but there’s no escape. Little does Muir know he’s about to be plunged into an epic drama that will change his life forever.

Into the fire…

Lady Cordelia Steyning is in a bit of a pickle, and rather dismayed to discover being kidnapped is not at all the thrilling adventure it had appeared to be in the romantic novels she so adores. Though she had often daydreamed about daring adventures and being the heroine of her own story, the truth is she’s just a little bit terrified. Still, she’s not about to let a man she despises take control of her future. Desperate measures are called for.

A scandalous inferno…

Delia is rather pleased with herself when she courageously escapes the clutches of the dreadful man who hoped to force her into marriage. The trouble is, in doing so, she’s unwittingly plunged herself into a truly horrific situation, until a real-life hero steps into the breach.

Till death do us part…

The last thing Muir needed was another dead body, and yet another scandal, and this one not only outshines the one he left London to escape, but adds a good deal of fuel to the fire. What’s more, now he has an innocent young woman on his hands who is entirely ruined through no fault of her own.

What’s an honourable man to do? He’ll just have to marry her… like it or not.

Delia’s Hero

I absolutely loved Lady Cordelia and Muir’s story. When Cordelia is kidnapped by Enoch whom she has known for a long time she vows to escape. Muir is on his way home after he was accused at first of killing Lord Richmond but thankfully his father was able to help him out of it.
Cordelia is able to escape Enoch but unfortunately she lands in the hands of a more evil Lord. When Muir hears a woman scream he runs to her rescue. When he sees the Lord involved he has no qualms jumping in to help, but the Lord does not play fair and pulls out a knife but unfortunately he falls on the knife and eventually dies. He realizes the woman he saves is a Dukes daughter, Lady Cordelia and he whisks her away and offers her marriage to save her reputation.
She accepts to begin with and they travel to his brother’s home at Wildsyde.
A wonderful story with a hero, questions, kisses, a returning villain and so much more. Beautifully written and a fantastic ending.

I've never loved Emma's Scotland focused books. So, this by default isn't one of my favorites. I'm unsure if it's just personal preference, or due to the writing, but the Wildsyde focused books are just okay. They feel a bit too removed from all our other characters, and the Anderson boys are all carbon copies of one another.

That being said, I thought this was fun if not a bit dramatic. The endless kidnappings felt like a bit much, but I can appreciate Delia and Muir's relationship and how it develops. This isn't bad by any means, but I really want Emma to reach that wonderful spark her earlier novels had. This is just missing something, and I can't quite put my finger on what. Maybe it would benefit from a bit more tension and drama? More steam would be appreciated too. Just anything to give the story a bit more oomph. I think the best books by Emma are with characters who have a bit of edge or some sort of situation happening - and this didn't have that. Yes, Delia goes through an ordeal and Muir saves her, - but then they sort of wander around the countryside until they decide they do in fact like one another. That's pretty much the entire book - so again it's not bad, but we need a bit more.

Loved it!

What a really lovely story! Although I have struggled with some of them in this series, my ocd won't allow me to quit until I have read them all. However, as nice as the story was, it only got 4* because some elements of the story were neglected. The part with Rona for example, it simply felt that she was forgotten then remembered again so chucked in. Then nothing about how Hamilton proposed, it never seems to come up or have a purpose. Other than that, it was a good book. The characters were fun, and filled out so you felt you got to know them, as well as being suited with equal amounts of silliness.

Well a small improvement over the previous wicked sons but still a misnomer. As a new author's offering I would say promising. But this is not a new author. Instead it's one whose books thrilled and I collected. This is a run of the mill romantic novella with little depth and character development. It seemed to rely an awful lot in Scottish accents which were wearing and not always correct. Thank goodness for KU, another one that won't be added to my bookshelves.

Rescued by a Scott in a kilt!

I have lost track of the number of elements in this series, although th as I really enjoy this author.is wasn't a true elopement. I take it that Hamilton must be in the next boo.I am wondering who will be in the next, by my refining there must be at least another four or five sons still to come. I expect Pop will end the series. I always make a note of the date of the of the next due date.

Good story

I enjoy all the Wicked Sons books and this one had a good plot, charming hero, and flowed well. It did need better editing, however, as each time I was caught up in the story, I was brought back out of the story by a misplaced or doubled pronoun, an uncorrected repeated verb or some other misconstruction. No misspellings, just jumbled words. Still enjoyable.

Truly dreadful. I was so bored I almost gave up about 6 times and skimmed my way through to the end. The characters were so dull, and the characters from previous books (who I formerly adored) were like strangers made of damp cardboard. For the first time ever I’m not preordering the next book in this authors series, the writing had gotten worse (again) and the stories just seem pointless.

Really enjoyed this book. Delia and Muir both find themselves in all sorts of trouble and seeing what happens next was fun to read. Very relatable characters. Definitely recommended.

Just okay

Agh, too many “dinnae”s and “aye”s and “wee”s and “ye”s for my liking. It stopped the flow of the story for me. And the H was hardly a wicked son - he was actually quite lovely. An okay story, with just a small amount of jeopardy.

Main characters had zero chemistry, no depth so the book just dragged with nothing to move it along. Also at the beginning the H is with another woman, that immediately set the bar pretty low for me personally.

I liked the authenticity of the dialog with one Scottish and the other English. I can understand the reluctance to marry because of the circumstances but the H was endearing and it was easy to see how Delia falls in love. A keeper for me.

Boring! This story included half-a-dozen kidnappings, brawls, and rescues, and none of them made my heart beat any quicker. This is a special disappointment, because, while this author is hit-or-miss (mostly miss, these days), I loved her book about Muir’s parents. Read Winter at Wyldside instead.

Kilts!

Another outing with the Andersons, and very enjoyable, with action, suspense and a damsel in distress. Delia and Muir are well developed and the story was plausible for the times and well written. I enjoy the authors books every time.
