Until her.

Rowdy Boy is the first book in the new Black Mountain Academy series by Clarissa Wild. This enemies-to-lovers high school romance is filled to the brim with suspense, drama, secrets, lies, betrayal, angst and steam. Told in dual perspectives. Get ready to meet Cole Travis and Monica Romero.

"It was only a matter of time until I lost my heart to this boy... A boy that I shouldn't have, can't have, but a boy whose heart I want nonetheless."

Monica transferred to Black Mountain Academy because she needed a fresh start away from the trauma caused by a boy. So the last thing she needs is to get involved with another one, but she can't help but be intrigued by the sexy, bad boy rock star. The one that she keeps running into that is determined to make her hate him. It's safer for her that way. Getting involved with him would only ruin them both.

Cole comes across as your typical arrogant, egotistical, rude asshole. But as the story progresses, we learn the reason behind his actions and that deep down, he's really a good guy. And Monica, she was absolutely amazing. Despite her past trauma, she was strong, brave and resilient. She gave as good as she got when it came to Cole. She didn't cower down to his bullying ways. But when he saved her from a harrowing situation, things began to change for these two.

"We were made for each other, her and me, like lightning and thunder in the night sky."

Rowdy Boy was a slow burn that quickly got its hooks into me. I absolutely loved it! From the explosive times, to the heartfelt times, to these two soulmates finally coming together in the end. I simply can't praise this story enough. Well done Clarissa! I can't wait to see what you have in store for us next! Five stars for Monica, Cole and Rowdy Boy!

A good bully romance with a good plot. What I really liked about this NA book is the portrayal of the heroine’s mum. In so many of these types of books it’s become almost standard to have the prerequisite bad parents. I’m glad to say in this one we get to see a mother loving her child unconditionally and showing what a parent should be.

"This boy is a killer. Not a murderer of people but a murderer of hearts."

This book gives me a whiplash same as what Cole did to Monica. Its been ages since the last book I've read by Clarissa, and I missed how good her writing style is, how gritty and gripping the story are. There's always an arc on it. Her characters are kinda a hit or miss for me, mainly of her female lead/s. And Monica is the perfect example, I know she's a strong heroine given what she experienced from her prev Prep school, and yet I don't feel the authenticity, her actions and thinking are bland and weak at times. Its more on telling than doing it, if that make sense. As for Cole I get you dude, being a jerk and called out for being an asshole offend you, but thats exactly your persona for the 80% of the book, even after the reason unfolds. Adding to the mix the psychopath self-absorbed cousin.

The writing style was good, the delivery of the story as well, perhaps the angst and pulling-pushing thing between main characters didn't fulfill me, instead it makes me feel disconnected with them. The ending also felt a bit rushed for me. I tried, really hard to discern and look beyond the characters, but nada, still fall upon the spectrum.

still a good highschool bully, Enemies-to-Lovers romance tho, sadly it isn't just for me.

"We were made for each other, her and me, like lightning and thunder in the night sky."

Excerpt:

“Truth or dare,” I say, as my eyes struggle not to follow all the tiny beads of water trickling down his tattooed chest.
“Truth,” he replies, his voice as serious as the look on his face.
“Why do you bully me?” I ask.
He lowers his head to meet mine. “Because I need you to hate me.”
I gasp. “But … why?”
That familiar smirk pops right back up onto his face. “One question, Mo.”
Fuck. I wish I’d asked a better one.
“Truth or dare.”
“Truth.” I don’t think I’m gonna like this, but I’m not up for another one of his dares.
“You felt something when I kissed you, didn’t you?”
My heart swells.
Fuck.
I had not expected that.
Don’t get lost. Monica. It’s not real. None of it is. He’s a player. Someone who toys with hearts and minds. Someone who likes to win just for the sake of it.
“No,” I reply, trying to shake off this dread.
The look on his face is dead serious now. “Don’t lie to me. That’s not how this game works.”
“Prove it,” I retort, glaring right back at him. “Prove I’m lying.”
His hand reaches for my face. I don’t flinch, the mere touch of his hand on my skin enough to make me freeze. His palm cups my cheek, and I melt into him as his thumb brushes my lips, pulling one down as he slides farther and farther.
“Is that a dare?” he asks with a husky voice.

It was only a matter of time until I lost my heart to this boy … A boy I shouldn’t have, can’t have, but a boy whose heart I want nonetheless.

description

Rowdy Boy is a stand-alone from the multi-author Black Mountain Academy series, featuring the rocker/high school bully romance of Monica Romero & Cole Travis. Monica is looking for a fresh start, far away from the events & trauma she endured at her former school. She’s sworn off all guys, but on her first day she sees a guy that has her reconsidering altogether.....too bad he’s the reigning bad boy & rock god of Black Mountain Academy. He’s nothing but bad news, the kind that will definitely break her heart....that doesn’t make staying away from him any easier, especially when she’s captured his attention.

“There’s something about that girl … something that makes me forget everything I was doing, everything I ever knew, and all I can think about is making her mine.”

The first thing that captured my attention was the cover & then the author, having been a HUGE fan of a previous release of hers called Cruel Boy. When I realized this was a spin off of that book & featured one of my fave support characters Monica, I knew I needed to read it ASAP. I loved Monica and wanted to see her get a happy ending of her own and she does get that....the problem is the story I had to read to get there. I enjoyed it for the most part, but it felt too close to Cruel Boy in many ways among other problems. I loved the couple, I didn’t completely love their journey....but we will get to all that.

Book Facts:
Told in: Dual POV, all present day.
Type? An interconnected stand-alone part of a multi-author collection featuring characters from the same school, as well as a spin-off of a past release from this author. Can be read on its own, after Cruel Boy by Wild, or along with the other books in the Black Mountain Academy series.
Triggers: Emotional trauma resulting from past sexual assault, attempted sexual assault.
Ends in: HFN ending for couple.

The Main Players:
Monica Romero: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I could tell from one glance that she’s been through a world of trouble … and still, she looked like she was ready for more. Ready for me.

Cole Travis: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I knew right then that boy would end up breaking my heart. Still, I made the plunge. I didn’t know then how far I’d fall … But he did. He was counting on it.

What I liked:
❤️ I LOVED Monica in Cruel Boy, so the fact that she got her own book was all sorts of awesome for me. Honestly, she is what made this book.....her personal growth and the journey she takes in this story....
“I left behind everything I ever knew and cared about, just so I could repair what another had broken. Just so I could mend my heart and heal the scars a boy left on my soul. A boy whose name even now I refuse to say out loud. He broke me.”
description
....and the way she comes out of it changed BUT is able to tap back into that inner warrior/strength and sass she has....
“You think you can mess with me, but I don’t play nice,” she snarls. “I’m not a fucking victim. I bite back. And you’re finally catching on.”
description
.....it just made this book everything to me.

❤️I can’t say that I felt a strong emotional connection between these two, however physically these two were fire. I loved the build up and insane sexual tension when they were close.....
“You ruin me, Monica. Fucking ruin me,” he murmurs. “Now lie down and let me give you all the attention you so desperately need.”
description
....it was hot as hell and I hated there wasn’t more BUT I understood why it was the way it was.

❤️This is going to be an odd one bc it’s not necessarily any certain thing, it simply comes down to the fact I just liked the story. I can’t really explain why I did or list a bunch of “likes” to back it up, just that I did.

What I didn’t:
🖤If I was forced to narrow it down to one thing I hated the most about this book it would be easy, it was the whole fan/famous/groupie crap that was done in such an overboard way it got ridiculous. I mean I get it, he’s the lead in a very popular local band BUT that’s just it....they are a local high school band. They can have fans, even groupies in a sense, BUT the way it’s approached like she’s involved with some major platinum selling rock star was eye-roll inducing......
“No fucking way will I ever turn into one of those people who beg for attention from a rock star just because they’re famous.”
description
Most of the book felt like both characters going on and on about his fans, his groupies, his rock god status, and what a celebrity he was.....
“As if being around a celebrity suddenly makes you famous too.”
description
....it just made it kinda cheesy and a little overdone in my opinion.

🖤The repetitiveness was another issue that also tied into the first one. With how often it (the whole famous thing) and how she would never be that kind of girl, how he could never have her, how she wouldn’t be just another conquest....there were quite a few things I felt were focused so much on that it got a bit too repetitive, to a point I felt like the story was still going bc of the same things/problems over and over again.

🖤Some things just didn’t make sense....like the time she had to fix her hair bc somehow laughing by herself in the hallway for less than a minute or two had messed it all up.....
“I work up my mascara and fix my hair, which has gotten all messed up from laughing so hard.”
description
.....or how someone’s breath can smell like hot summer nights and exactly how that is attractive (I’m not judging, I sincerely don’t understand how someone’s breath smells like it much less what that smell even is).....
“His breath smells like menthol sweets and hot summer nights,”
description
.....or my fave, how he goes on this rant about no girl ever wanting him for him but for his rockstar status, yet then proceeds to say how much he enjoys the douchebag role but doesn’t understand why no one wants the real him.....
“I’m a douchebag, and I enjoy it most of the time. But sometimes … I just wish girls would want the real me. The guy underneath all that fame.”
.....ummmm maybe bc you complain yet at the same time enjoy not showing the real “you”?
description
It seriously made no sense to me, internal teenage struggle or not.

🖤It felt wayyyy too much like Cruel Boy (plot wise).....I don’t want to get fully into it so as to not ruin it for anyone who has read that one, but it just had a few major plot elements that were a little too similar for me....
description
.....especially considering those elements were major parts of big moments/scenes of the story.

The Verdict:
description
Overall, I had hoped that Monica’s book would’ve been better but I did enjoy it. It’s not going to go on my faves list like Cruel Boy did, however that doesn’t mean I don’t think others will enjoy it. As far as bully stories go, it’s got the elements that make a deliciously steamy little read that’s entertaining.....but it didn’t have quite enough depth to it to make it anything more than surface level fun for me. Unfortunately, their journey felt like a bit of a rock version knock off of Nate & Sam’s love story when

We were made for each other, her and me, like lightning and thunder in the night sky.

Rowdy Boy by Clarissa Wild was an addictive enemies-to-lovers bully romance that brought on all the angst as I was completely captivated by every moment of this intense story. Monica and Cole's chemistry was there right from the very beginning and I just couldn't get enough of their journey as I inhaled all of the words. Both of these characters dealt with their own personal struggles that defied who they were and the events that led them to each other. Their struggles managed to touch my soul in ways I never anticipated and left me enthralled the entire time. That push and pull feeling that they caused deep in my chest had me on the edge of my seat in anticipation what would happen next.

Sure there were some moments in this story that I didn't necessarily love and at times I wanted to scream at BOTH Monica and Cole for the actions they took, but overall I really enjoyed their story. While this happens to be the first book that I have read from Clarissa Wild, it certainly won't be the last because now that I've gotten a glimpse at Sam and Nate, I can't wait to check out how their story began in, Cruel Boy. The author did a great job setting the stage for the future books in the Black Mountain Academy series, a multi-author collection of standalone books set at this elite high school that shall certainly hold some interesting secrets!

This story can definitely be read and enjoyed as a complete standalone, but I am so ready for more stories to come and the opportunity to discover some new authors. It should be a fun few months and I can't wait to eventually read them all, plus more books from Clarissa Wild.

Rowdy Boy is the first book out of the new Black Mountain Academy collection. I was so excited to see this collection from some of my very favorite authors Clarissa Wild being on the very top. So knowing Rowdy Boy was the first to come out I jumped at the chance to read it. But I have to say I was a little letdown.

Rowdy Boy was not at all what I expected. I could not connect with these characters. Cole is just a soul-sucking character that I found nothing to like. There is a lot I could say about him, but then I would give the story away and I will not do that. But I will say I did like Mo and wished that maybe she fell for someone else.

Me not liking this story is on me, not on anyone else.

I felt this book was all over the place! Cole is mean to Monica for the dumbest reason and as good as Monica was at sparing with Cole she went on and on how gorgeous he is and that made her weak for him! Ugh this storyline is so over played. We don’t need pages upon pages of how smexy our main couple is.
The band aspect and the groupies/fan girls is so odd for High School we hear about the fan girls all the time!!!! I had a friend in HS that had a popular band and NO girls acted like these girls in the book especially at school staring/ogling/pawing at the band members so unrealistic.
I have no idea why Cole and Monica even want to be together all they do is fight there’s never any REAL conversations.
This book just wasn’t for me.

'Rowdy Boy' by clarrisa wild is a standalone book which is a part of the 'Black Mountain Academy' series by multiple authors. Told in dual Perspectives , this book was another bully Romance masterpiece by this author!!

Clarrisa wild is my all time one click author! I am totally addicted to her hot Bullies and the darkness her books possess. This book is another example of her marvelous skills.

Cole is the lead singer of his band TRIGGER. The band means everything to him and is one of his favourite things about his life. That is until he meets the new girl at school. The one who is shy , yet so feisty. He can't help but be drawn to her. The moment their eyes meet , sparks literally erupt! But Cole has his secrets. Secrets that she can't know. Which is why she has to hate him. It is the only way for both of them to survive.

Web-Photo-Editor Monica, Monica … what have you gotten yourself into? Playing with the devil.”

Monica has a dark past. To get a new start she moves to the new high school. But all her plans seem to fly out of the window when she meets the playboy of the school. One eye contact and she knows he is going to destroy her. His methods are relentless but this time Monica is prepared , she is going to fight back.

I am a big sucker for bully Romances so I was all over this book and finished it in one sitting! The best part was that we also got to see some of the characters of the other books by this author. A definite recommendation to all the dark Romance Lovers out there who are addicted to themes like blackmail and Bullying!

I loved how this love story unfolded.

This story and its beautiful characters will get under your skin and burrow straight into your heart. I absolutely adored Cole Travis (two of my fave names a hero could have). Not everything was as it seemed when it came to him.
Monica was such a sweet girl. Not long ago something has happened to her and she's hurting. She's careful when it comes to boys. But Cole isn't a guy she could forget so easily.

The push and pull relationship that they had was so captivating.

It’s an exciting must read and I highly recommend it!

I can’t believe I’m saying this, I did not enjoy this book. 😔
This is one of my rare reviews where my ratings do not total to an overall rating for the book.
I Give this Book a 2-2.5/5 Star Rating, Listing as 2.
I honestly had serious high hopes for this book because I love this authors writing.
I could not enjoy Monica, plain and simple.
Cole to me just didn’t fit right, he felt like a typical mold of a bully-ish? or wannabe bad boy type, he did and said as one would predict and he felt almost as a secondary character sometimes as opposed to being what he is..a leading character.
I definitely felt like I was suffering whiplash on the regular in this book, I almost couldn’t believe what I was reading half the time cause the writing is not what I’m familiar with, coming from this author. It feels really disjointed as well as added detail that didn’t really need to be there, throughout.
I did feel a bit weird about how Monica easily took everyone’s word of Cole being a ‘bad guy’ and/or that he’s nothing but trouble, even Cole himself says he is one also.
To me she pretty much she hoodwinked herself, and never actually made up her own mind/sorted out the facts, she was very gullible especially with the first female friends/acquaintances she meets.
She really needs to make up her own mind, not have others tell her what she should think or do.
Monica seems always hot and cold with Cole on how she feels about him, and some actions became almost too contradictive at times for me to be able to keep focus on the book.
I’m trying to avoid Spoiling this book.
Dark(?): I cannot list this in my Dark nor Dark Lite categories. I would have to say No, but it may be Dark to some.
Predicability: 4/5
Drama: 5/5
Suspense: 2/5
Relationship Type: MF
Heat: 2.5/5
Romance: N/A, it just didn’t seem real to me.
HEA(?): Yes.

I wanted to love this baby.

I did.

Especially when I realized that I HAD met Monica before and had loved her in Cruel Boy (Sam and Nate).

But, alas, it was not meant to be.

This isn’t to say that I didn’t like Cole or Monica, in fact I actually liked Mo a lot, she finds a way to pick herself up and keep going forward, no matter the odds. Cole...I got why he felt the way he did and decided on the path he was on, but it made me roll my eyes more than anything else.

With my tepid feelings towards Cole, I just had a difficult time getting into Cole and Monica’s journey. When it comes to bully, teen/new adult romances, there is always a bunch of eye rolling and growling going on...at least when I read them...and while this one had me doing that, I was also skimming pages in an effort to find that “moment” where they would totally click for me and unfortunately that didn’t happen.

Typically I’m totally down for the bullying and the angsty goodness that this author brings, but it just didn’t happen for me this time around. Also, I’m the type of reader that loves secondary characters and have been known to fall hard for them, but the only character I loved was Monica’s mom. That woman was a force and I loved all the moments with her.

I wish I had loved this one, I really do, but I’m just posting it up on the “It’s not you, it’s me” shelf and will still recommend this one to those of you who love bully romances.

Cole and Monica's didn’t disappoint. Monica transferred to Black Mountain Academy cause of some things that happened at her old school only to find a new nemesis that she loves to hate, Cole. Monica doesn’t bow down to Cole which intrigues and angers him all the same. I’m so looking forward to how the rest of these books will play out

Cole.
Hot. A**hole. Popular.
Girls worship the ground he walks on.

Monica’s the new student who wants nothing more than to fly under the radar. That’s until she locks eyes with Cole. There’s an instant attraction between them, but they fight it with all their power.

Clarissa wrote an amazing Enemies to Lovers High School romance. The push and pull between Cole and Monica is nothing short of addictive.

Rowdy Boy has it all, from drama to angst to all the sizzling heat your heart could desire.
It’s a Standalone read in the Black Mountain Series by various authors. Don’t miss out on this one!!!

I really really tried

I have been reading this book for about a week now and I have to stop. I usually read a book Amin a day or two but this one is just all over the place it’s giving me whiplash. The characters are so ridiculously intense from the very start and for them to big kids in high school just makes it even more silly. Perhaps if they were in college I could accept the intensity coming from the leading guy. The author is trying to hint at what happened to Monica from page one but it’s not a hint it’s a big neon sign that says “she got raped!” So when you are suffering through page after page of her and her cousin trying so hard to avoid talking about it and page after page of her cousin “warning” the douche bag away from her it just feels redundant. And the random drug dealing parents were just a bit much for me. Everyone knows they sell drugs except the FEDS... really. I can’t bring myself to finish this book it’s giving me a headache.

1 disgusting star

I stopped when cole decided the best thing to do when Monica saw his band mate with drugs, was to rip off all her clothes and take a nude photo of her without consent for either. And then uses that photo to hold over her head so she won’t talk about what she saw.

Aside from this there was 0 chemistry between these uninteresting characters.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.

I've always known how to make girls fall to their knees. When I open my mouth and play my music, they line up to scream my name. Cole Travis, rock star and high school legend. Fans beg me for a dirty smile and a filthy kiss. And I give them everything they could ever want. All thee years, I thought it was enough. Until her....
Monica Romero, the new girl whose wistful eyes hide a closed-off heart. A heart I know belongs tome but one I can never have. She doesn't know me. My band. My reputation. Not even my name. But she will remember me. Because if I can't have her...No one will.

This is the story of Cole and Monica. He has got it all for a high school guy with a band and girls falling all over him all the time. Monica is the new girl in their school. She has transferred to Black Mountain Academy because of some things that happened in her old school. It isn't long before she meets Cole and realizes that he is going to be her new feller that she she loves to hate. To Cole's shock and surprise, Monica is unlike all the other people in his school as she doesn't bow down and kiss his feet. If you love Bully romances then this is one that you do not want to miss. I am so afraid to talk to much about the story. I know myself and I tend to get excited about a book and just go on and on about it. But I did love this one and thought it was absolutely amazing.

After enjoying Mr. D by Alta Hensley, I decided to give the other BMA books ago. Starting with Rowdy Boy by Clarissa Wild. This book connects to her characters Nate and Sam from Cruel Boy. In Rowdy Boy, we meet Monica who suffered an attack at her old school and so needs a new fresh start, her mother after hearing from her cousin Arianne Romero that Black Mountain Academy is a safe school. When Monica arrives, she is captivated by Cole Travis - a musician at the school and lead singer in a band called TRIGGER. Her cousin warns her against Cole as he is a player. We see quite a lot through the book, Monica edging towards Cole and her cousin constantly warning her. We also see her cousin at war with Cole and learn that they have a history where Arianne claims that Cole cheated on her and now she wants revenge - the age-old story of "if I can't have him, then no one will". Monica doesn't want drama and tries to stay away but the pair are drawn to one another. Can Monica be the girl to finally be able to tame and discover the real "Cole Travis"? This book also introduces us to characters Nate and Sam who are friends of Monica's from her previous school - these two characters are the main leads in Clarissa Wild's book "Cruel Boy" which I am now looking forward to giving a read.

After enduring a traumatic event Monica is no longer the outgoing happy girl that she used to be. She has recently transferred to Black Mountain Academy in the hopes that a new environment with different people will give her the new beginning she so desperately needs. All she wants is to blend in but one glance at Cole and that is no longer an option.

Cole is not only a star in his band but a star in school as well. He is drawn to Monica in a way he never expected and a way that he doesn’t want. Every goal he has for the future involves his band, so he isn’t about to be diverted by allowing any woman to breach his walls and that includes Monica.

Both Cole and Monica are determined to deny their feelings for each other but that is easier said than done. Although their journey wasn’t without its setbacks and angst Monica shows how fierce she really is and that there is so more to Cole than his reputation and once they let their walls down they couldn’t be more perfect for each other.

Monica and Cole's connection was so cute I honestly loved their relationship and so many times through this I was just like tell the truth dang it. I really did like reading about their progress and when Cole finally stopped pushing her away it was glorious and I loved it. Also, the scenes were so hot and sexy and spicy and I loved them.

I'm going to mark the next bit spoiler just in case.

I really enjoyed this book it was my first book by Clarissa Wild and I'm excited to read more of her stories as well as continue with the black mountain books because I am addicted. But yes really enjoyed. Loved it.

Love me some Cole!! Rowdy Boy is definitely a must read. I loved everything about it. It had a story line not just bullying and boy wants girl kind of book. Cole is the lead singer of a band and doesn't have the best reputation, more of a love them leave them type of guy but he had his reasons for how he was not that that makes bullying ok. Monica is just trying to start over and have a normal life but starting at a new school can be hard on any body and when Cole spots her, that's a rap. She is his at that point and he will stop at nothing to make that happen. I have to say though I loved how Monica gave as good as she got, she didn't just roll over and take it. But Cole and Monica will definitely take you on an angsty ride so buckle up and enjoy.

Rowdy Boy is book 1 in the new Black Mountain Academy series by Clarissa Wild. This is Cole Travis and Monica Romero's story.
It's an enemies-to-lovers high school bully romance that's filled with drama, betrayal, angst, secrets, lies, twists, feels, suspense, steam, passion, and emotions.
Without giving any of the story away, the chemistry between Cole and Monica is intense and hot. It's a push/pull from the beginning and the reader is on the edge of their seat, between anticipation and suspense. I was left wondering who the real villain was but it was cleared up towards the end in a good way. The ending was good and book 2 makes way for Sam and Nate's book. I'm definitely looking forward to this story.

My Rating: 4.5 stars *********

The last few Clarissa Wild books I have read were 5 stars and Rowdy Boy was no different! Oh my heart! This story was filled with some serious emotion and I would havnt loved it either way! I really felt for the main character Monica and everything she was dealing with! The tension/feelings/dialogue/pain/love/hurt/surprise was all worth it as the story unraveled, I couldn’t believe what was written on these pages!
I very much enjoyed all the new spins this author put into this “bully romance” really turning this story into something of her own...
This author is seriously the greatest and I can’t wait for more!

Wow, what a book. I think this one is going to be one of my favorites. Cole and Monica's story will make you crazy mad but then turn around and make you melt. These two have a very interesting story and it is a must read. I was ready to strangle Cole there for awhile, but he smartened up just in time.

Clarissa has done it again, awesome book.

Rowdy Boy is a well written enemies-to-lovers high school bully romance filled with suspense, secrets, betrayal, trauma, intriguing characters, a bit of angst, a few twists, and drama, that slow builds up to a HEA.

I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.
