In the tradition of M. Night Shyamalan and Stephen King, Bloodhound is a coming-of-age suspense drama about Jay Pulver, a trans college student who discovers he has mysteriously acquired superhuman abilities when he accidentally kills his sister’s ex-boyfriend. Recruited by a brilliant but eccentric scientist at the FBI, Jay is tasked with employing his unique powers to track down a domestic terrorist group currently setting off bombs around Washington, DC.
As Jay comes to grips with his new abilities, he must grapple with his own family trauma—and what he's internalized about what it means to be a man—before he loses himself and everything that matters to him.
Thomas Page McBee’s Lambda award-winning memoir, Man Alive, was named a best book of 2014 by NPR Books, BuzzFeed, Kirkus, and Publisher's Weekly. A quick read with an nteresting plot. I wonder if it would’ve been better if it were a longer book wherein it delved more into each character and culminated into the big finish.
In addition to being a good sci fi read, this also fits the Psychological Thriller category. There is your typical government people trying to control everything and your ordinary people trying to figure out what in the heck is going on.
The book was well paced, revealing bits a regular intervals to keep the tension going, with a few surprises along the way. Everything a good book should have.
Dolby Atmos: I really, really, enjoyed this. I hope they make more! I love super power books and the multicast sound effects are really good. Interesting story line and powers, as well as characters. I liked that the main character is trans, it added an interesting dynamic. I would like to see how the story progresses!
3.5 (Technically not a book, but idc) So much fun! Great trans representation, while still being a solid story by itself. However, probably the length affected it's capacity of fully developing the plot and the characters, and the resolution was kinda lackluster. But it was entertaining and left space for so much more stories in this world.
I have no idea what did I listen. Too much sound effects, no proper storyline. most of the time I was wondering which character is speaking. When I was still trying to figure out this, the book finished. Utter waste of my time!
Well performed with interesting concepts, but I got to the end with no closure. Like a lot of others, what did I just listen to? I even went back to relisten to a few chapters to make sure I didn't miss anything. No... I didn't. The story just ends, and I feel no better for it.
This was my first dip into a dramatized audiobook. I don't/can't usually do audiobooks aside from memoirs and the occasional non-fiction, but this one was fun. I am surprised the reviews are as low as they are.
This was a pretty interesting story, kind of Chronicle meets Mutants? IDK, pretty good cast and a solid plot. I'd happily look into more from this author.
I really enjoyed this story. It reminded me of the many podcasts I enjoy, especially as a full cast audio drama with sound effects etc. Very enjoyable! I snapped it up for the trans man main character, and the plot kept me hooked.
