When a prominent church leader is found dead, the news is ablaze with theories and allegations. Who would kill a beloved man? Could he have been hiding a murderous secret?
From theories of raptures and many wide-ranging conspiracies. It seems the fabric of the world has been spun into pure madness. To add fuel to the many religious theories, multiple murders occur surrounding a famed televangelist. Each brutal murder is accompanied by cryptic and eerie messages. With each death another layer of danger and mayhem befalls the religious community.
While FBI agent Emma Griffin investigates the many twists and turns of this sinful case. She finds herself grappling with some truths that will change many things.
Sinful deception, wicked manipulation, deadly lies, and murderous connections. They say pride goes before the fall. For Emma Griffin the lies of the serpent may lead to the outcome she never saw coming.
It’s about this woman’s, Tracy Ellis, ministry and some of her employees getting threats. Then one employee, Gideon, is murdered and his roommate, Jesse is attacked. Then Tracy’s head bodyguard’s, Ander, wife Sabrina being murdered. Another employee, Marshall, was attacked and was almost murdered as well but he survived and his wife, Carla, would have been attacked as well if she were home at the time.
Emma takes on the case thinking it might have something to do with Tracy Ellis’ ministry because she has such strong opinions and is very outspoken about it. But it turns out that Carla was cheating on Marshall and having an affair with Jesse. When Marshall got suspicious, Carla broke it off with Jesse but he wasn’t happy about it. Then Ander found out Sabrina was pregnant and was pissed because he never wanted children. So Ander and Jesse connect through Gideon and plan out this elaborate murder plot so “solve” both of their problems. Jesse wanted Gideon dead because Gideon found out about Jesse and Carla and was going to turn them into Tracy.
I like how Ander and Jesse were very strategic with their planning. Making sure there were alibis and reasonable explanations but they always slip up so Emma was able to figure it out. I still want to know what happened with Terrance Brooks though. There’s nothing new on that case and I’m curious. But the cliffhanger for the ending makes me excited to read the next book in this series. Eric calls Emma to let her know that an inmate that her ex fiancé, Greg, put away before his death, has escaped and they have reason to believe he’s coming for Emma.

The Girl and the Lies(Emma Griffin FBI Mystery Book 30)
This book was a little different than the others, but I loved it. Emma has to try an figure out who is threatening employees of a evangelist, who thinks her teaching are the way to save people from this corrupt world. The woman evangelist, is a very controlling person that just sprews hate and anger, so you can see why people would want to hurt her and her people. But the investigation takes many twists and turns, but in the end Emma figures out why and how these things are happening and finds her killer. I can't wait to read the next book.
I started with the first book a long time ago and read thru until there were no more available yet. But by the time I picked up the books like this one, I don't know the details of Emma's life like I did previously. My point is, that it would be nice to, when I start a new book, that there was a brief description as to who is who. The intrigue is here yes, but not an edge of your seat drama. Really good story tho
I love your mystery books. This one had continuous movement. Tracy Ellis was a piece of work. Ander was such a good bodyguard for her. Emma worked so hard investigating the deaths and threats. Tracy, telling everyone to get used to it, don’t be afraid, you’re just being tested. It’s always the last person you think. Gideon’s roommate Jesse Kristoff. The neighbor Casey Burgess was right.
The story was interesting and yet challenging trying to figure out who and why the killings took place. Emma had a challenge trying to make the clues come together so she could make sense out of them and get the killers. Anyone who likes solving problems would like to read this story.
This was a excellent story about Emma going all out to find out who and why people of a church are being killed and Emma figuring out who the people were that was doing it. This story had lots of suspense and action. Thank you for this awesome story.
Wow! I did not see the ending coming in this book. It started out looking straightforward and got twistier as it went along. And just like all the books in this series, I enjoyed the journey.
This is another great book. Loved it. The thrills and the intrigue keep you from putting this book down. This is one of the best mystery series. I highly recommend this book and series. Can't wait for the next book.
Last book left me dissatisfied, but this story had me hanging on every word. Yes, not enough of the auxiliary characters, and not enough of the opening mystery, but really great story.
Emma always has the most convoluted cases, and she solves them every time. I love her stories and her thinking throughout the case. Always look forward to the next one!
It took me a while to get into the book. Maybe it was just me but I didn't click with it. It was interesting enough that I finished the book but not my favorite. Don't think I would try any other of her series.
Emma is my favorite character As always she is smart stands her ground and still keeps her sweet family as #1 I loved the suspense and did not have a guess as to who was doing th killing. Another great read A.J. please keep Emma coming back.
Homicides peripherally connected to a self-promoting evangelical guru, herself a polarizing media figure, proliferate among the evangelist’s current and former adherents.
Is this spate of attacks and homicides directly linked to the evangelist herself, or is something unrelated to her ministry?
The story was pretty good the twist at the end was not what I was expecting and the lead up for the next book has me looking to see if it’s published or if I have to wait. Well done A J.
Our favorite FBI Agent is back in this thriller when a man who works for a religious leader is killed in his own home with an ominous message written on his wall threatening more violence. As other works are attacked, Agent Emma Griffin is searching for the one behind it all. The twists and turns are so much fun! Don't miss this one!
The worst book in the series. Took me a month to finish it was so boring. Tedious detail that added nothing to the story telling. Interested in what others think.
I love when I'm able to figure out the assailant(s) before the end. This one got me. I really didn't have a clue. Anyone who loves mysteries would love Emma's adventures in this series.
This book was fantastic. Emma needed to follow the clues of threats to the employees of a ministry. These threats ended with murders. A J Rivers did a great job keeping me guessing as to who the murderer was All the way to the end.
Finding this series by chance was a gift. I enjoy this series so much. Emma, Sam, Eric, Bellamy, Dean and Xavier and Cupcake also. The back stories for each character and their life’s going forward these are hard to put down. Great read again!!
You are doing a great job of tying these stories together. This one was a little choppy, but still good. Looking forward to the next installment! P.S. You STILL need to get better proof readers! I'm an English major and am available to help you out. Just FYI!
A religious zealot,, threatening notes, assaults and murders
This is one story that is completely n U.N.ot what it seems. There are assaults, murders, a kind of cult, but what is going on really isn't what it appears.
Not my favorite but still better than most other books on the shelf. Though it's a continuing story with familiarity of characters, it stands on its on feet!
