Dr. Bonnie Vause has told a compelling story!

The story is full of complex characters including a young mother who is tricked to enter into a contract with the "devil" in order to protect her family. Her discovery of the deception will plague her for a lifetime and ultimately lead to her end.
Her children grow up in a poverty stricken home on the wrong side of the tracks, attending school with other children whose families have so much more. They struggle through the embarrassment and isolation created by their poverty and young Lizzy vowels at any early age to one day escape to find a better life on the other side of the tracks.

Dr. Elizabeth Davenport is plagued by nightmares and the mysterious secrets that haunt her childhood memories. For three decades she has worked hard to maintain order and consistency in her life without allowing anyone to share her past life, the life of a little girl named Lizzy Jones.
But after 30 years of trying to forget, a terrible accident makes it necessary for Elizabeth to return to her hometown for the first time. With the support of her husband, she faces the demons of her past and learns the answers to the many secrets she has been hiding from for a lifetime.

I found as I read that clues along the way led me to think that I had things figured out, only to round a corner and meet a huge surprise. Dr. Bonnie Vause is a true story teller. The colorful characters and surprising turns make this a very fast and enjoyable read.
