Wonderful book about how Jesus interacts with us in different ways and through our brokenness

Well written book with application to so many of the areas of brokenness we all face....and find joy in Jesus. I was most impressed with the bibliography containing so much I have read over the last 50 years and each dropping a nugget of gold into my life in Christ. Thank you so much!

An inspiring book about God's encounter with broken humanity

R. Christian Bohlen's Miracle at Angels Bend delivers an intriguing narrative that intricately weaves the lives of diverse characters, each facing personal struggles against the backdrop of faith in Jesus Christ. Set in the fictional town of Angels Bend, this contemporary tale draws readers into the issues of modern life, infusing each chapter with relatable challenges such as mental illness, addiction, and the quest for belonging. This is a novel about the encounter of human brokenness with Jesus. The book's strength lies in its ability to resonate with individuals seeking understanding or healing in their own lives. Bohlen employs a symbolic structure that effectively mirrors the journey of spiritual growth, inviting readers to reflect on their relationship with God. Characters like Hannah and Josh embody the struggles of self-doubt and familial conflict, moving their interactions profoundly. Readers will find themselves rooting for these characters as they embark on a journey of healing, redemption, and transformation. One of the most significant elements of Miracle at Angels Bend is its exploration of the Beatitudes, a teaching of Jesus that promotes humility, compassion, and genuine connection with others. Bohlen beautifully presents this core message through the lens of his characters' experiences, allowing readers to witness their evolution from personal strife to joyful acceptance of faith. The book also presents a resource for those wishing to deepen their understanding of Christianity. With discussion questions and a facilitator guide provided, it encourages personal reflection or group study, making it an excellent choice for book clubs or church groups. In turn, it is inspiring and entertaining.

loved this

A great reflection into my own life to search myself as well as my faith. I’ve been active in church all my life but that doesn’t mean I didn’t have questions along the way. I discovered tha if I keep Jesus in the forefront of my life He will always be with me. He never has left me even the times I strayed and I’m so very thankful for His grace and mercy to me.

In "Miracle at Angels Bend, R. Christian Bohlen crafts a narrative that is engaging and spiritually enlightening. The novel centers around four main characters—Josh, Hannah, Dave, and Ellen—whose individual journeys intertwine as they face a myriad of challenges in their lives. Bohlen cleverly captures the essence of contemporary struggles, including grief, addiction, and the longing for acceptance, creating characters readers can deeply relate to. The beauty of this book lies in its layered storytelling and incorporation of biblical teachings. Bohlen utilizes the teachings of Jesus as a guiding path for each character’s development, primarily through the lens of the Beatitudes, which resonate with those who experience hardship. The lessons imparted by Jesus, conveyed through Bohlen’s narrative, remind readers that even in their darkest moments, there is a path toward healing and hope. Furthermore, "Miracle at Angels Bend" stands out for its potential as a study guide. With its discussion questions at the end and the option for group engagement, readers can effectively explore the themes and teachings in the book. This unique blend of storytelling and spiritual exploration makes the book a significant resource for individuals and groups alike who are seeking to deepen their faith and connection to God.

Fantastic! I Must Read It Again!! More than 5 stars!

What an imaginative way to present practical, Christian living in novel form. Young adults, parents and co-workers from several household are asked to participate in a book reading and meet together to discuss their thoughts but the assignment brings consequences no one predicts.
That's just like God! I found myself wondering how each character in the story was going to deal with their issues while asking myself-"How I would act?" I was so interested in their individual stories that I had to know the choices they would make.
What a story. What a book! I can recommend this heartily for teens and adults. Caution, your life might change. But that's what it's all about.

Excellent book, l was so impressed how the author brought in the brokenness of life today, the struggles all ages face and the power of Jesus to forgive and heal when a person surrenders their life to Christ. “Behold all things become new “. A fantastic truthful read for teens through adults, very plainly written but not pushing, challenging questions to ask oneself and decide for oneself about Truth.
First book l’ve read by Mr. Brohlan and glad I did.

Amazing Grace

So many inspiring words this book. The characters represent so many of us. This book would be a great group study for all ages. Or even a family project to share with their friends. I highly recommend it to believers and nonbelievers as well.

The title is only fully realized at the end of the book, but there are other miraculous things that happen as the story goes along. I found three parts mixed together in this story. First was the stories of the various individuals, mostly about how they dealt with their own inadequacies: addiction, guilt, adultery, and so forth. Second was the spiritual side when the characters were having visions or doing some heavy thinking and how things were revealed, fully or partially. Finally were the sections where the characters interacted with one another, sometimes at the book meetings, and sometimes elsewhere.

Dave is the guy who gets the people together. His wife has mental issues, and he is coping with that along with some attraction to a gal at work and guilt about a past issue. Josh is young, running with the wrong crowd, doing some bad things, trying to figure out his life, and has some interest in a nice girl who is coming to the discussion group. Hannah is the nice girl; she wants to be a missionary, but she is depressed over an auto accident she caused and has taken some refuge in pills. Arman is Dave’s neighbor and fellow volunteer fireman; he is an atheist but comes to the meetings out of curiosity. Larina works with Dave and has some attraction to him; she comes from a believing family but has rejected God. She comes because Dave asked her. Dave’s wife, Ellen, participates as she is able, meaning when she is having a good day.

The book they are reading is full of Scripture, but it fits when they are reading it. The Scripture is often paraphrased or modernized so that contemporary folks like the characters in the story can understand it better. The author of the book is not revealed until the end of the novel. The rationale behind the group getting together to read and discuss the book was to give the author feedback. That would happen at their last meeting, eight weeks from the beginning of the story.

The novel has some questions at the back, so it could be used as a group study. It is not a novel where everything works out in the end and all things are wrapped up neatly with a red bow. It’s about people and their progress or lack thereof. Some characters show spiritual growth; some don’t. It’s real in the sense that it's about people, messy as they are, dealing with life.

The chapters each have a focus on one or two or sometimes three people. It all weaves together rather well. I liked the book and recommend it.

Miracle at Angels Bend is a deeply moving, spiritually rich story that blends the emotional depth of contemporary fiction with the hope-filled message of Christian faith. R. Christian Bohlen has written more than a novel he’s offered a heart-level invitation to rediscover joy, purpose, and healing through Jesus Christ.

The main character, Jack Calhoun, is raw and real his struggles with cynicism and burnout make his journey all the more powerful. As he finds himself in the quiet town of Angels Bend, we watch a man closed off from grace slowly awaken to love, truth, and divine purpose.

What makes this book special is its quiet strength. It doesn't preach it touches. The spiritual themes are woven into everyday moments, making them feel both accessible and profoundly meaningful. Bohlen’s writing is gentle, yet piercing in all the right ways.

If you're looking for a story that heals while it entertains a novel that reminds you of God’s relentless pursuit of the human heart Miracle at Angels Bend will leave a mark on your soul.

Miracle at Angels Bend by R. Christian Bohlen is a heartfelt, spiritually charged novel about redemption, faith, and second chances. Through Josh, Hannah, Dave, and Larina, four flawed, hurting individuals, the book captures the rawness of grief, addiction, ambition, and disillusionment while weaving in the transformative power of encountering Christ.

What makes this story stand out is how Bohlen balances authenticity with hope: the characters feel painfully real in their struggles, yet their paths toward healing never feel forced or saccharine. The premise of a simple invitation, reading a book about Jesus, becomes the spark for profound change, reminding readers that miracles often begin in the quietest moments.

This isn’t just a work of Christian fiction; it’s a deeply moving exploration of brokenness and grace that will resonate with believers and seekers alike. Perfect for book clubs or personal reflection, it’s a novel that lingers in the heart long after the final page.

Your review beautifully captures the quiet strength and spiritual richness of the book, and it left me even more eager to explore more of R. Christian Bohlen’s work.

I would love to see a book like Prototype from this author something that perhaps blends the same emotional depth and spiritual insight with a fresh, maybe even futuristic or visionary perspective. If anyone could bring a meaningful, faith-centered story to life in a unique new setting, I believe it would be R. Christian Bohlen.

Powerful book with a great gospel message. The author masterfully paints four main characters at different walks of their level of belief/commitment (or lack of) to God. He includes their temptations and life struggles. He uses a book by a secret author for the characters to meet together in a book club setting to examine the message of the book. It is very cleverly done and has a great outcome. The story is well-written, moves along nicely, and has a very satisfying ending. Well-done!

Simply written and accessible to all readers. By using the agency of a book club , the main points of Jesus’s on Earth are told and explained.
Also by using interesting characters and their particular challenges these points are illustrated in practical terms.
The author has appealed to today’s audience and done it well.

average read for me

I felt some things were left without closure. The book ended and I’m thinking “what about this?” What was the result of this? What happened in that situation?
I have many questions for the author and will not get answers.
