A sexy and swoony new adult romance...

Celebrity photographer and college senior Jess Leighton desperately needs to crash the wedding of the year. Snapping just one pic of the A-list Hollywood couple tying the knot will pay her way through grad school. But with security tighter than the bride-to-be's corset, she'll need more than her camera and smarts, she'll need help from her biggest rival--hot, British, motorcycle-riding William Harrigan, whose sexy accent can melt the panties off any woman. He’s the last person Jess should trust, but he's her only ticket in.

William Harrigan wants one thing – to stay in L.A. past college graduation. With a student visa set to expire, the clock is ticking. When he lands a gig that pairs him with the beautiful blond spitfire Jess, he’s scored his best shot at living out the American dream. Winning her trust would be a whole lot easier, however, if he didn’t have ulterior motives...

But there’s no faking the intense attraction between them. Try as they might to resist each other, soon sparks are flying, as they devise a plan to sneak into the ceremony. But when Jess' new celebrity client raises the stakes, she starts to smell blackmail, and soon she and Will are chasing down cheating directors, staking out clandestine trysts, and making fake IDs, all while sneaking scene-stealing kisses and hot nights together.

The audience loves a happy ending, but in a town where everyone's acting and no one's playing by the rules, can Jess and William find their own ever after in time?

-"All I know is I enjoy hanging out with you immensely, and I want more of you."

-I was operating on desire, pure physical desire, but it's not as if I was out of control. I was in control, because I wanted him badly. He was a choice I was making in this moment.

-"I adore kissing you."

-"It's never been like this before."

-"The way we kiss?"

-"No one has ever kissed me the way you do, William."

-Kissing him was heaven.

Another okay read. This time, Jess and William deepens their bond which led to a courthouse wedding… and more.

Cute banters, sweet romance, hot hero, sassy heroine.

So why 3-star only?

I’m gonna use this line; “It’s me, not the book.”

Probably the timing. Probably my mood while I was reading it.

Ah. I’m getting cranky. I better start with Bounty. *big grin*

Especially now that they’ve learned it’s quite possible to fall in love in only seven days.

The audience loves a happy ending, but in a town where everyone's acting and no one's playing on the same team, can Jess and William find their own ever after in time?

Jess and William’s story continues with and become far more complex with each passing day. Jess wants one thing, to snag the secret wedding shot so she can secure payments for her education. With enough insider information, things appear to be shaping up for her to get what she wants.

For William, he needs a job. His Visa is due to expire upon graduation and without a full time job and an employer to sponsor him, his dreams of America and a certain California girl will go up in smoke. So a deal is struck. He’s scratch her back, she’ll scratch his and while they are busy doing that, they’ll take care of a few other itches.

As they maneuver through tinsel-town to get what they want, things take a few turns and fate steps in a bit to move things along.

=========

Similar to how I felt during A Starstruck Kiss, the celebrity factor in this (although a large part of the plot) detracted from the story for me. I enjoyed Jess & William’s story and loved the few little moments where we got a few pleasant surprises tossed in. But for me, this book was about those two and everything else just got in the way.

William was a sweet hero. I often find myself swooning over the bad-boys and then William pops in and my heart is all a flutter with this strange idea that nice guys are just as sexy as bad-boys. Crazy thoughts! But he was all kinds of perfect. Seriously flawless in that annoying way that makes you want to thank the heavens for creating him, but also smack him, cause it just isn’t fair!

This was a very funny & sexy read that although had moments where I skimmed parts to get to the story and characters – I still enjoyed. I wasn’t skimming to end the experience, but rather trying to soak up more of the love story that was unfolding with these two. So even though I couldn’t latch on to the whole stardom aspect, I did cling to these two characters.

Graphics to be posted at a later date.

:: FULL REVIEW NOW POSTED ::

A sassy, sexy story full of intrigue. A “mystery with a twisty, turny plot” that’s fun and relaxing to read.

Jess is determined, independent, in control twenty one year old biology major that wanted to be a doctor and paid her way through school by taking pictures of celebrities. I would dare call her and over-achieving problem solver with a vulnerable side she rarely lets show and never let’s loose. I liked her, even when I didn’t like her preferred livelihood.

William, a.k.a Hot British Guy (HBG), is studying Asian Languages and needs a job that will allow him to continue residing in the US. He’s funny, perceptive and dashing with his English accent and his penchant for talking dirty in Italian. A swoon worthy combination.

While moonlighting as a P.I. William needs to understand the ins and outs of the paparazzo world that dominates L.A. By fortunate chance the first expert on the matter he encounters is Jess. And after some interesting revelations they find themselves in a situation where working together is mutually beneficial.

They didn’t count on their attraction being more than just physical. They understood each other and fit together perfectly like the last two pieces in a puzzle. Falling in love was easy. Staying together though will prove to be almost impossible.
“We were science, we were two substances in a lab that mixed perfectly, whether it was the banter or flirting.”

There were a few things about the story that gave me pause. The most relevant being that I feel this book, which is continuation of the novella A Starstruck Kiss where we initially meet Jess and William, shouldn’t have been divided in two parts. Because I don’t think I would’ve enjoyed as much this one as a standalone.

My other sore points were the insta-love, which I mostly overlooked because the story was truly charming, and the visa situation with William which felt forced and didn’t ring true.

I absolutely enjoyed how this romance novel is practically presented as a Hollywood Rom-Com with tinsel town as the backdrop.
“The movie montage began, reel after reel of our times together playing before my eyes. Our first kiss… His text that night… The thing he said to me in Italian when we made out on his morotcycle… the rollercoaster… My insides melted from the memories.”

Besides understanding each other and bringing out their best selves, the banter between William and Jess is cute, witty and arousing in a very honest, transparent almost pure kind of way.
“Now you’re just talking dirty to me when you use words like eggs, hold the yolk.” I bent my head to her neck, pressing a light kiss near her earlobe, then whispered, “Lettuce. Grapefruit. Whole wheat bread.” She inhaled and moaned quietly, as if I were turning her on with my food talk.

The plot is told from both point of view and is refreshing and quirky. I delighted in Lauren’s writing style and will quickly look for William’s brother’s story in Far Too Tempting.
“He kept kissing me, the kind of kiss that couldn’t be stopped, that was like a comet across the sky, hellbent on having its way. The kiss was its own lifeforce, powerful and potent, and left nothing but pure heat in its wake.”

* I was given an ARC of this book by NetGalley. The excerpts are from that copy. *

4 Bright Stars!

A treat for readers as you get a prequel before the real deal with A Starstruck Kiss, the introduction of Will and Jess from their wild meeting, instant attraction, and "partnership" before the fun romantic ride of Stars in their Eyes!

Jess is a driven 21 year old with big hopes and dreams...Med School bound she freelances as a paparrazo looking for that big money shot.

William is a "hot British guy" looking for any employment to stay in the USA! He has irons in the fire. He has nibbles and he has a foot in the door, a lot. But he also has just 2 months before saying good-bye.

In a twist of fate, Jess and William find themselves in a whirlwind of Hollywood buzz, celebrity gossip and scandal, and a seemingly fun love chase! it would seem as if they are bound to be spending time together...perhaps for pleasure...or maybe to get a leg up on the competition. Figuring out who is playing who in a world of "movie scenes" is a tricky thing and for two young attractive people it seems obvious that their time together is not a hardship!

"William and I worked well together, and we laughed well together, and we kissed well together."

What Lauren Blakely delivers is a good light hearted romance with completely likeable characters and an equally likeable plot! This story is a bit on the "quirky" side with the overall dialogue and the story line, but one thing is solid...William is quite a catch...his bilingual bedroom talk and his flirty banter is sexy. As for Jess, she isn't too bad herself. I enjoyed her strength, her openness, and her backbone!

"Letting go scared the hell out of me; it stomped on all that I held dear. My life was a ladder, each step leading to the one above, and I wasn't anywhere near the top. I had so many plans. Big plans. I didn't want to risk a single one of them with a distraction."

I love this...for me Jess was relatable. She was a breath of fresh air...she just didn't expect William to climb up on that ladder! Whether or not Jess and William found the stars in their eyes to last...to still burn at the end of 2 months...well that is for you to find out!

Loved this! Excellent pace, great build, and solid story that was entertaining and sexy! I adore Jess and William, they were great characters.

Jess was strong and determined and had some past issues that still weighed heavily on her. A very relevant issues in today's world and kudos to Lauren Blakey for including something so very real. I loved William, he was so caring, sweet, and totally swoon worthy! I thought their growing friendship and attraction developed at a great pace and I loved every second of it. Jess and William give new meaning to the words “hot kiss.” The build between them was incredible and it lead to some really passionate and steamy times. I enjoyed their ups and downs and adventures. Everything seemed so real and true to me. I loved the fact that Jess and William were just these open and honest people falling in love and trusting.

I enjoyed the secondary characters in this as well, I really liked Jess’s roommate Anika a lot. There were a ton of cross over characters from other Lauren Blakely stories, I won't say who because it's always fun to discover them... but two of my very favorite couples make an appearance. I was thrilled about that.

This was just so FUN to read. There was just the right amount of drama with a bit of mystery thrown in. I absolutely enjoyed all the movie references and the hero/heroine mentions. I had a great time trying to figure out which celebrity might be the one being referenced. It was just this entertaining element that was added that made me like it all even more. As a dog person, I have to say I really liked all the dog interactions as well.

This storyline had all these great twists and turns, just when I thought something might be predictable it wasn’t and I found that really refreshing. Great ending, so very sweet!

Stars In Their Eyes left me with a big ol' smile on my face. I think I have a new favorite Hariggan brother.

3.5 Stars

Jess is ambitions and dedicated to becoming successful in her career, the last thing she needs is distractions and that is exactly what she sees William as. William is a British college student and he is in need of a sponsor for his work visa or he will be forced to leave the country.

Despite all of Jess’s best efforts the sexual tension is off the charts between these two, but with hidden agendas its hard to determine what you can trust. When something comes up and they both need each other they will have no choice but to work together.

Jess and Wiliam are so fun together. I loved their chemistry and the dynamic between them. All together this was a fun, quick read. I really liked this story, and going through my own theories trying to guess William’s secrets. I loved having both William and Jess’s POV. I am not able to give this one a full 5 stars, because it did start off kind of slow but hang in because it does pick up.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable read.

If you like NA chiclit romcom with pseudo mystery plot twists and a whole LOT of faux movies references, this is a story for you.
It just didn't float me boat.
The writing is good, of course. The characters are likable (William might have been a prize in a Cracker Jack box he was so sweet). Loved the dogs, who couldn't? Hell, the MCs both loved their (still living) parents for goodness sakes! And yes the vilians were appropriate assholes. Those polt twists (which didn't come till halfway through) were the only thing that held my interest. Skimmed a lot. *sigh* Even the mini scenes with Clay felt lukewarm. *sigh* Even Clay was way too nice. LOL
Just a nice star struck read.

So here’s the thing... I was beyond excited when I learned that the “eminently lickable” Matthew Harrigan’s baby bro was getting his very own book and now I am done reading it, I am head-over-heels for the “criminally handsome” William Harrigan. How could I not be? He was cute, funny, “constitutionally good-looking” and, quite simply, good. Not a dirty talkin’, former man-whore of an asshole (although I do enjoy them too). Nope. Just a sweet boy that falls for a hot girl and wants to stay with her....no matter what. Pretty sure that’s the definition of swoon-worthy.

Jess Leighton is paying her way through college with her camera. She’s stalking celebs – snapping pictures of them at their best and worst – and just hoping to get enough cash to make her dream of becoming a doctor a reality. When she gets a tip that the wedding of the century is on, Jess needs to be the first to capture the A-list couple tying the knot to secure a big pay-day. And to do that she needs help from a hot British guy by the name of William Harrigan.

William loves California. He is determined to stay on American soil but as graduation looms, time starts running out. He needs a job to secure a visa – and he thinks that beautiful, blonde paparazzo, Jess, holds the answer to his problem. He’s not counting on the intense attraction he feels for her, nor is he expecting their time together to become a cat-and-mouse game of deception, stakeouts, lies, cheaters and blackmail.

When the stakes are raised, will Jess and William be able to solve the mystery, snap the pic and save the day? Or will their happily ever after become happily never after instead?

Stars In Their Eyes reads like a movie. It had all the momentum of a fun, flirty, mystery film – one that I think many people would enjoy. It was a riotous good time, full of all the good stuff that makes you want to suspend belief and just enjoy the crazy antics and good and bad (in both ways *rwoar*) behavior of the characters. I have to admit that early on I was a little doubtful of how this whacky story would play out. But once I realized the direction it was going – and I got a feel for the characters and their motives – I was hooked.

Jess was uptight and controlled but charming enough to make her likeable. I empathized with her struggles and kinda wanted to give her a hug. And William was, well, scrumptious (<<—trying out my British). I really enjoyed his quirks, his delightful take on Jess’ outlook on life and his willingness to accept her as she is...even as he tried to show her how he really saw her. He was mannerly and kind but still managed to be a panty-melter. Impressive.

Although Stars In Their Eyes read differently to her recent releases, all of my favorite things about Lauren Blakely’s books were back; the playful banter, the sexy times that were as loving as they were hot, the creative careers and overwhelming smarts of the characters. And, of course, the cameos. Cameos are my absolute, hands-down, no-questions-asked favorite thing, because Matthew. While it was awesome to be rewarded with a little lovin’ from the Blakely Boys and their beloved women, I would buy this book just to spend a little more time with Matthew. BIG sigh.

I was Caught Up In Love with Lauren Blakely and her characters the first time I opened one of her books, and if she keep bringing out books like this one, with heroes like “Criminally Handsome”, I think I’ll continue to be for some time to come. I’d happily be Wrapped Up In Love with the Blakely boys forever.

Stars In Their Eyes is the second book in the Wrapped Up In Love series, a spin-off of the Caught Up In Love series. Book one, A Starstruck Kiss, is also available and should be read first. No cliffhanger. ~ Beth, 5 stars.

~~~
Oh Lauren!! Thank you so much for adding “HBG” to my ever growing list of BBFs!! William – the Hot British Guy – is amazing and I absolutely loved his and Jess’ story.
Stars in their Eyes picks up exactly where A Starstruck Kiss left off. Will and Jess are working together in order for them both to get ahead in their jobs. Of course their relationship doesn’t last as friends only for long.
“It’s all real. I think you’re hot and beautiful and sexy and funny and smart and it drives me absolutely crazy how you try so hard to dislike me.”
I adored the Hollywood vibe throughout this entire book. I loved that Jess was a celebrity paparazzi and how Ms. Blakely brought in movies and actors that are similar to real movies and actors. It was so fun trying to figure out which movie or show or actor she was referencing! And all of the cameos from other Blakley boys were FANTASTIC!!
This book reminded me of so many firsts: first loves, first kisses, and first stolen moments. There are no better memories than the firsts.
“He wanted me to feel good, wanted me to let go beneath him, and that sounded pretty damn appealing to me too. Better than cake, better than chocolate.”
If you are looking for a romantic, sexy, funny, fabulous book, look no further!! ~ Tiffany, 5 stars
Update: audiobooks make everything better!
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: 5+ STARS
This is the first audiobook I listen that is narrated by Analysa Gregory and Richard Higgins. They are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Their voices were perfect for Jess and William. Analysa and Richard made me love this book more than I already did. They made me fall in love again with Jess and William all over again, with their beautiful relationship and with their adventures as a teen (almost) paparazzo and a young private eye.
I read the 2 books of the series back in october 2014, and here comes one of the things I don't like about being a blogger, I knew the main plot of the books and their love story and their HEA, but I didn't remember the details, how much they teased each other, their adventures of chasing celebrities. This audiobook was a perfect way to remember all that and never forget about it, ever again! Especially their kisses, Oh. My. God. Those kisses. *sigh* So romantic. *sigh*
What I loved the most about this audiobook was Richard Higgins. His british accent was just perfect. PERFECT! I don’t need to say more.
Thank you Lauren for producing the audiobook for Stars In Their Eyes. Can I ask a short audiobook for A Starstruck Kiss? Pretty please! It’d be great to be able to listen to William (Richard) saying this in his sexy british accent:
“Jess. And I bet it’s just Jess. I bet it’s not even short for Jessica. Because I don’t think you’d use a nickname”
Stars in their eyes by Lauren Blakely photo pizapcom14125560072991_zpsd446c29b.jpg
I utterly love this book! The plot was surprising. It was funny, sexy, romantic, and completely original. I love how the characters from her other series each made an appearance in this book. While reading, I was fangirling about all of them. It’s rewarding to get a glimpse of what happens after the HEA in their books.
Now back to Jess and William’s story. They are great together. Jess tried to steer away from William because what she thought she wanted was to keep it as a partnership but she liked him so much that it was hard to stay away from those sexy soft and delicious lips of the HBG. William indeed knew how much he likes her and wanted her even more that it was hard for him to be apart from her.
The secondary characters and their role in this book were amazing. Riley and her little dog Sparky McDoodle were awesome. I was delighted how well she handled things for Jess. It was just wonderful. The celebrities and their jobs as well as their lives were so well written that for me I found it to have a realistic feel to it.
There were many great moments in this book. One of the moments in particular are the kisses. Oh My God, the kisses, they were addictive! I loved reading about their kisses *sigh* The kisses were soft romantic ones leading to hard and sexy ones at which point Will started talking in one of the sexiest and most romantic languages on the planet with his british accent. I was about to die with those kisses.
Towards the end of the book I felt so connected with the feelings of William and Jess, that what was happening to them made me cried so hard. At one point I yelled at my ipad with my solution to their problems, but then the most unexpected thing happened and it was all solved. I am so pleased with the ending of this book. Perfect HEA.
Lauren Blakely is a true romantic and her stories are deeply rooted with everything that spells Love Story. From interesting characters and suspenseful plots, she simply catches my attention with every word on the page. I usually read only heroes of the Alpha male variety. But Lauren is my go to girl now for sweet romantic and sexy perfect boyfriends.
William was adorable and hot. When he spoke I had to pay attention because everything he said truly was full of heart felt meaning. From the way he never once tried to fight his feelings for Jess knowing their time could be limited. . just solidified my intense like of this guy. The banter cracked me up so many times and the passion was just so lovely. Low on the angst and unrealistic drama this was just a feel good and simply put beautiful romance.
A story of young love. . that turned into forever love layered in hope, faith and beauty throughout. Pure romance is exactly what you find whether Lauren is writing about bossy alpha males or sweet and sexy adorable heroes. Just perfect every time.
Read more reviews at A Lust for Reading. I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
First of all, if you haven't read the FREE prequel novella A Starstruck Kiss, stop now and go read it. It sets up this book so perfectly so I highly recommend you start there.
Now, 21 year old Jess is pre-med and paying her way through collage working as a paparazzo. If she can somehow snag some photos of the upcoming celeb wedding, it would pay for a nice amount of her classes. William graduates college in two months and is doing some part time work at a security/private investigation company. As great as graduating will be, he also dreads it since his student visa will be up and he'll have to return to England. Unless he can find a full-time job to sponsor his work visa.
Jess and William both have something the other desperately needs. William can get her into the wedding and Jess can give him the intel he needs on paparazzo. While they have agreed to help each other out, there is so much more going on between these two. Though Jess didn't want to get involved with any guy right now, she simply can't resist is charm. But while they are falling for each other, will everything else fall into place so they can both get whet they need?
Lauren Blakely used the most perfect word to describe this new book of hers" swoony. Totally spot on. I love William. L.O.V.E. He is sweet and attentive and has such a way with words. Especially dirty Italian ones. Jess is a very strong heroine who is determined to stay focused on her end goal. The two of them together was just wonderful. This story was sweet and funny and I enjoyed the unique paparazzo plot. It was a fun read that was low on the angst meter and a perfect way to fill an afternoon. And true to Lauren Blakely form, you can expect some cameos from some of our favorite characters from her other books.
I shuddered and tingles raced from my stomach to the tips of my fingers, lighting up my insides. The kiss radiated through me, dizzying and delicious and a promise of so much more. It was the kind of kiss that took over your brain. That made you believe in possibilities, in perfect chemistry.
Oh new love! New love with a mystery. New love and serious situations that make these characters real. Little Jess Leighton, Bryan Leighton’s sister from Caught Up In Us, is all grown up and making her way through college as a Paparazzo. She’s one hell of a photographer and she’s also one smart cookie, studying pre-med at UCLA. She finds herself itching for that next wedding shot that will offer her a chance to finish school without the help of her family. The only one in her way is the handsomely charming William Harrigan.
Why is it that British accents are so panty-melting hot, that and the fact that William Harrigan speaks Italian, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese just completes the package for this hot, British immigrant. He also knows how to ignite a flame so bright in Jess Leighton that she doesn’t know whether to run for the hills or right into his arms. But there’s more to William than meets the eye, he has a secret, one that he needs Jess for in order to complete his dream.
After a passionate kiss on the Venice Beach boardwalk both of these characters find themselves caught up in each other and in a series of twists and turns that will either bring them closer together or tear them apart. Under all this, Lauren Blakely touches upon more serious issues. First, Jess’ struggle with a food addiction, something so raw and real that you can’t help but empathize with the heroine. And then there’s William’s immigrant situation which kind of hits home nowadays. A student who wants the American dream, but can’t quite reach it is always heartbreaking. Such a wonderful story where love is just a breath away and it’s the answer to clear all woes.
Lauren Blakely does it again. I tell you, I am not sure how she does it but she continues to put out book after book full of fun, flirty, sexy and smart characters. She has a way of weaving past and future characters into each new book and somehow making each of their stories unique and wonderful. Seriously, one of the best parts of LB's books is catching the, sometimes subtle and sometimes very obvious, nods/shout-outs to her past characters. I mean anytime I can hear more about Clay and Davis you'll see no complaints from me. This book is certainly no different.
I really enjoyed the whole "Hollywood/LA" theme of this story and trying to figure out her versions of real movies, TV shows and Hollywood elite. Her interpretation of the rich and famous and their lifestyles and especially those who follow them was realistic and hilarious at the same time.
You will fall in love with William and his British wit and you'll find yourself wishing that you were Jess, even if only for just one day. Like all of Lauren's books, this story is a perfect blend of romance, comedy, steam and mystery. Be sure to pick up a copy of the prequel A Starstruck Kiss to get the full experience of William and Jess.
I really liked this story! It was refreshing and fun! William is the perfect book boyfriend ~ VERY swoon worthy! And Jess was very easy to like and fun! The chemistry and connection was very strong for these two and it was very well written. I've loved every Lauren Blakely novel I have read because she has a way of bringing characters alive and making you feel as if YOU are one of these characters. It makes her stories so engaging as well. You just don't want to put down the book! It made me tense, kept me guessing and wondering how it all was going to come together and if it would work out. It was humorous, sweet, frustrating, mysterious, intriguing, passionate, and romantic. It was told in both Jess and William's point of views allowing us to feel their emotions and understand their fears and motivations. I really like dual POV books because you never have to 'guess' what's going on with the other character!
I highly recommend not only THIS book, but ANY book written by Lauren Blakely!
Following on from the intro 'A Starstruck Kiss ' A spin off to Lauren's Fabulous Caught Up In Love series, this is the new Wrapped up in Love Series and is right back to the fun flirty writing that Lauren is so freaking good at.
Jess is a Papp, taking pics of celebs to pay her way through med school. Will is the Hot British guy doing anything he can to stay in the US, with only 2months to graduation, he needs a job. But, he is the competition, albeit the hot, delicious, gorgeous, i just have to kiss competition.
A great fresh plot, with a few twists. I loved all the characters, old and new ones!!
4.5+ stars
Jess Leighton is independent, sassy, sarcastic, and has a strong need to always be in control. To pay for med school, she is also a celebrity photo stalker. She tries to avoid the distractions of men since she needs to keep her focus. But she knows she can be easily be dazzled by hot boys and the sweet things in life. So she tries to put up walls of resistance to keep her out of trouble.
William Harrigan is a transplanted Brit, also in college, who just wants to find a way to stay in L.A. But in order to do that he needs to find someone to sponsor a work visa and that is easier said than done since his skill set is pretty specific. In one of his attempts, he makes the acquaintance of the the feisty Jess, but it also pits them in direct competition. Jess is determined to stay away from him., but William has other ideas.
Hot. British. Rides a motorcycle. If he turned out to be a smart one, he'd be all my weaknesses. Good bye to him then, because I had no time for weaknesses in my life.
She was lovely. And hot. And feisty. Translation-everything I liked best.
There is sexual tension, resistance, rivalry, and hidden agendas. William is a bit of a mystery and his motivations are unclear. But eventually something comes up that they need each other for and have to work as a team. Soon they are knee deep in impossible attraction, intriguing situations, investigations and espionage.
In a world where no one is who they seem, are they both giving full disclosure? And are they together for more than just what they can do for the other?
Oh my...I loved William. First off I am a sucker for a British accent. I loved his older brother, Matthew in Far Too Tempting, but William is charismatic, funny, and sexy like him, but is a bit more rugged and unpolished. He a good guy with a bad boy edge. I was intrigued from the beginning about what he was hiding. I enjoyed his witty rapport and flirtation with Jess.
She had it all-brains, beauty, and a prickly take-no-prisoners attitude that drove me crazy. Crazy for her.
Jess took a little bit longer to warm up to. She is all about control, but she has her reasons. Her past has shown her it is a slippery slope to completely losing control and losing focus.Men and good food are her vices that she tries to avoid. But the charming Brit just might be too tempting to avoid. And when she lets go a little, she is fun, sassy, and likable.
He knocked down all the walls inside me, all my control, all my precision-balanced need to have my world spinning at a perfect pace I set and controlled like an engineer. Letting go scared the hell out of me; it stomped on all that I held dear.
But together they are flirty, fun, compatible, passionate, and can even be supportive. They actually make a good team. But there is so much going on under the surface, so many things changing quickly, situations that are ambiguous, and it is difficult to figure out who is friend or foe. They are two people with their own motivations who came together, but are also facing challenges under a rigid timeline.
He was always the dreamer; I was always more practical. I was science; he was words. The statistical probability of us working out was slim to none.
Can these two put all of the pieces together and help themselves and others? Or will the hidden agendas and secrets ultimately ruin it all?
It made me tense, kept me guessing and wondering how it all going to come together and if it would work out. It was humorous, sweet, frustrating, mysterious, intriguing, passionate, and romantic. It was told in both Jess and William's point of views allowing us to feel their emotions and understand their fears and motivations. However, Lauren did allow William to keep a veil of mystery by not allowing us to know all of his secrets until they were fully revealed. So I kept coming up with my own various theories as I was reading.
I loved the background of the L.A. scene and famous people as well as the underlying theme of life imitating the movies. It was fun and interesting how the author bought in pop culture references and also built connections between the players. And I completely enjoyed the cameos from other Lauren Blakely books. Jess is Bryan's sister (Caught Up in Us) and William in Matthew's brother (Far Too Tempting) so of course they were involved along with their significant others, but there were other fun surprises as well. That is one of the things that always makes me smile when I read a book by Lauren Blakely since I know I might catch a glimpse of old friends. However this book can easily be read as a stand-alone. I would consider it more of a NA book, but it fits with the fun, romantic vibe of the rest of the series while also pulling in more of entertainment elements we have seen a bit of in the others but this focuses more on L.A. movie stars rather than New York, music, theater, or fashion.
I devoured this fast-paced story and was completely engaged by the characters and the twists and turns. It kept me guessing, plotting, and wondering throughout. It made me smile and even swoon a bit. I really loved the characters and their interactions. Not only with the main couple but with all of the side characters and cameos that intermingled throughout the story adding depth and interest. And William Harrigan has earned a spot on my list of sweet, sexy, adorable book boyfriends.
True story: I forgot I was reading this book.
I had started it, thinking I was in the right mood, but it struggled to really hold my attention so I started a side thing with a second book. (I'm such a book slut.) When I finished the second book I went straight on into a third book with a fourth book as a side thing. I was pretty deep into these new books when I suddenly remembered I had never gotten around to finishing Stars In Their Eyes.
There's not much to tell about this story. Jess is a med student who moonlights as a paparazzi photographer to pay the bills. William is from England and is desperately looking for a way to get a work visa so he can stay in the country. They get together and spend most of the book trying to find a secret celebrity wedding so pictures can be taken. They fall in love, hit a speed bump and fall apart, then get together again. All of this takes place in like a week.
Stars in their Eyes is a quick and cute read. It’s the second in the series, starting right after book one, the novella A Starstruck Kiss leaves off. Though you could certainly start with this book,Starstruck fills you in on the brief background that Jess and William already have–plus, it’s a novella and doesn’t take much time to read. It’s worth it to get the scoop on how the two got started and what prompted them to make their “deal”.
William is exactly what the author promises–a really nice, very sweet, totally gorgeous guy. With a British accent. Really, what more could you want? He likes Jess from the start and sets out to get to know her and win her over. At the same time, though, there’s a deadline looming on the horizon–if he doesn’t find a permanent job soon with an employer who’s willing to sponsor a work visa for him, his days in the country are limited.
Jess will be starting medical school in the fall and her single-minded determination is to get enough money to finance her education without having to resort to loans. Working as a celebrity photographer has managed to pay the bills for her undergrad education, but to feel really secure about the next phase of her life she’d really like to find a “money shot”–preferably an exclusive of a secret celebrity wedding.
I’ll admit it–William is almost too perfect. Honestly, the only flaw I could see in the guy is that he initially keeps something from Jess in both the novella and this novel. He doesn’t do it to be deceitful, exactly, and he owns up to it as soon as he is found out and is sincerely sorry, thereby reestablishing his perfection. Jess, however, is not so easily placated, and in both stories it is Williams’s deception that leads us to the “black moment”. In the first book I completely understood her disillusionment–she had just met the guy, after all, and it must be hard to trust people to be honest when you spend your days surrounded by the artificiality of the entertainment industry–but the second time? Her quick, angry, and final response felt over the top. It seemed like by that point she should have had more trust in him and waited for an explanation.
Still, their make-up, with elements orchestrated by both William and Jess–was adorable, ending the book on a happy note. It could be argued that some of the conflicts are solved a bit too quickly and easily, but overall the book is so charmingly written it’s hard to get too upset about it.
These two books gave an interesting look into the life of a paparazzi–really, I wouldn’t have thought that was a character type I’d ever find sympathetic, but somehow Jess managed to convince me otherwise. Trying to figure out what celebrities, movies, and television shows Lauren had in mind when Jess was talking/thinking about entertainment gossip was a lot of fun. As a bonus, one of my all-time favorite movie scenes was almost quoted twice.
You can’t go wrong with a When Harry Met Sally reference, am I right?
Both Jess and William are younger siblings of characters from two of Lauren’s previous books ( Caught Up in Us and Far Too Tempting ); you definitely don’t have to have read them, but if you have it’ll be twice as fun when those characters show up (briefly) here.
The next book in the series is heavily hinted at (and excerpted at the end), and I’ll definitely be giving that one a try. I’m interested to see where this series will go next.
I rate Stars In Their Eyes by Lauren Blakely FOUR lighthearted LEAVES!
I've read several romance novels about actors and musicians, but I've never read a novel from the POV of someone on the other side of the camera - a paparazzo.
I'm a fan of Lauren Blakely's Caught Up In Love series, so of course I was excited to read the first in the spin-off series, Wrapped Up In Love. Her stories are so sweet, flirty, and steamy - a great combination. She is flawless when it comes to weaving in cameos, or even small hints, from leading characters from other novels in the series.
Jess Leighton. Aspiring Doctor. Talented Paparazzo.
Jess snaps photos of celebs to pay for med school. She has a plan, and she isn't going to allow her issues with food or relationships stop her from reaching her dream. That is until she meets one Hot British Guy, and he wins her over with his accent and swooniness (That's a word, right?).
William Harrigan. Who doesn't love a Hot British Guy who drives a motorcycle?
William has two months to find a job to sponsor him for a work visa, so after he graduates college he isn't booted back to the motherland. He is hired for temporary work with a distant relative, but his assignment leads him to Jess. Aside from her being an American, William falls for her smarts and sass.
I rated this story Four Leaves, because I felt Jess and William needed a little more time and a little more depth to reach the "I love you" stage. They are so cute together with all of their playful jokes back and forth, and I kind of just wanted them to keep having fun.
As far as the depth goes, only one scene comes to mind and that is when Jess tells William about her past eating disorder. The scene didn't quite feel like a moment where the two finally connected on a deeper level. It felt more like friends, and I think had they reached that depth, the "I love you" scene would have meant more.
That being said...Stars In Their Eyes is an entertaining and fast-paced read. You will really enjoy the details about the celebrities and their lives and careers, as well as Jess' strategies of tracking them down and catching them in their most private moments.
You don't have to read the Caught Up In Love series before starting the spin-off series, but I think you will get the most out of the stories and how the characters connect if you do.
If you have alerts on your phone for the rich and famous or love reading tabloids and celebrity gossip websites, you will enjoy Stars In Their Eyes.
I love Lauren Blakely’s books. Stars in their eyes was no exception.
William and Jess are both reaching for a goal. In a strange way, they are the solution to each other’s problems. Despite knowing the basics of their needs, there is still mystery to puzzle together, predominantly on the part of William. What’s ironic about that, is when it comes to his feelings (physical or emotional), he is a lot more open than Jess. I suppose that is how they are complimenting each other as main characters.
I’m so glad this book was in dual POV. I’m not sure I could have dealt with only one. If there is too much to question, too much to discover, a single POV can often drive me crazy to the point where I have a hard time finishing the book.
The plot is a really cute concept and I enjoyed the way it shaped their relationship. It was quirky and fun. However, sometimes the star aspects overwhelmed the story and I was itching for it to come back around to William and Jess’ romance.
Both William and Jess have sharp minds, and mouths. Their banter added quite a bit of humor, as did the whole cast of characters. The book would have fallen flat without the supporting characters building up the fun and laughter.
I tend to be over the moon for strong alpha men, However, William is as sexy as can be and definitely all man, without the possessive and dominant qualities portrayed by most alpha’s in a romance. He is a complete swoon. He is so sweet and loving, yet he melted my panties right off with his passion. Oh, the dirty bedroom talk in Italian? Yes, please.
The ending was a great HEA and I closed the pages with a little smile know that these two were riding off into the sunset. Overall, I really enjoyed the book. IT was a little slow at times, but it usually picked back up. It’s fun and light, and really great book for a day when you need a pick-me-up and a smile.
One of the things I love about Lauren Blakely novels is that she always puts in that extra effort to make her characters stand out. Sometimes they have unique jobs, or life struggles. In the case of Stars in Their Eyes, Jess and William have both. Jess is a paparazzo. I know, right. That’s different. And I loved it. I loved her job, the things she did to nab a pic. I almost wonder if Lauren Blakely moonlights as a paparazzi in her spare time. She made Jess’ character so believable. I felt like I was in Hollywood, along for the ride.
Then we have William… Hot. British. Rides a motorcycle. Talks dirty in Italian. Um, sign me up! Jess and William meet on a stake out and immediately sparks fly. Both Jess and William have some personal issues but they don’t let those get in the way of their attraction. One of the best things about them both is their openness with each other. I like that Jess didn’t hide herself from William. I loved that he accepted her just the way she was. And despite William only having two months left on his student visa, these two didn’t deny themselves a chance at love. Their sweet sizzle, and witty banter made for a great couple.
I know I tend to read more of the darker contemporary romance/erotica but it’s sweet, funny, sexy novels like this that round me out as a reader. I need books like this to remind me of young, innocent love. Stars in Their Eyes made me feel good. It made me laugh, swoon, and sigh. As always, Lauren has a way with words and I was completely sucked into Will and Jess’ story. If you haven’t read any of the rest of her Caught Up in Love series, don’t fret. This can be read as a standalone. And maybe, just maybe, there’s some cameo’s from another series that’s on the top of my favorite list. I hope you enjoy Stars in Their Eyes like I did. 4.5 solid, sexy stars.
Stars in Their Eyes was super fun! It was a bit different than I expected it to be, mostly in regards to William's secret (which comes out at the very beginning). Things pick up exactly where A Starstruck Kiss left off, then cover the next four days as Jess works her butt off to get that great wedding shot and William continues operation stay in America.
I really liked how William's "big secret" came out early on rather than being dragged out though Stars in Their Eyes. From the description we know that he's not really a paparazzo, so why is he at every celebrity sighting Jess is at? Well, let's just say that he's working for someone else and he's basically using Jess in the hopes that this freelance job will turn into something more. Thankfully, this doesn't turn into a huge blow out, because Jess needs William's help to secure her own future as well. Hooray for mutually beneficial situations!
Stars in Their Eyes does take place over only a couple of days, so obviously it's a case of insta-love. Kind of. Jess and William start out flirty, become partners in crime, and then get to the love portion, but all within a week. I really enjoyed their interactions though. I especially liked how he realized that Jess had some food issues and didn't push her or mock her or judge her for it. She was bulimic as a teen, but she's gotten better although she still struggles at times.
I really adored being immersed in the world of celebrities and paparazi in Stars in Their Eyes. Jess and William are all over the place as they stake out locations, shoot celebs, save their dogs, crash weddings, and fall in love in the process.
This new adult romance is the story of Jess and William. Jess takes celebrity photos as a means of income to support her schooling. When she meets William, working as a private detective for his uncle, she discovers that they can be mutually beneficial to each other in more ways than one. But with underhanded plots afoot, and secrets kept, will the end result be true love or will it fizzle out like a Hollywood romance?
I quite enjoyed this story. It did take me a while to warm up to Jess, mostly because of her career choice as a paparazzo. Looking for dirt on celebrities isn't really an admirable character trait to me. But I did like that she was honest with William and that over the course of the story her conscience came through. I really liked the plot of the story, the mystery of who was doing what to whom for what benefit. I thought that unfolded really well and made for an interesting story that I didn't want to put down. William was a very likeable character, sweet and sexy, doing his best to do his job, find a way to stay in the US, and convince Jess to spend time with him. The love scenes between them were fun and steamy. Overall this was an entertaining story with a believable romance between two engaging and interesting characters. 4 stars!
Stars in Their Eyes was fast paced and told from dual points of view. This story had blackmail and intrigue. It was just like something you'd see in Hollywood. You didn't know who was being honest or who was playing who. It was really enjoyable watching it all play out. And I really liked the paparazzi angle and seeing the lengths that some people will go to for fame.
I really enjoyed the progression of Jess and William's relationship. Their chemistry was really undeniable and they worked so well together. William was such a sweet, swoony guy and I loved the mystery that surrounded him.
Overall, I found this to be really enjoyable. Stars in Their Eyes is a sexy and fun read. It does have some drama, and I would have loved for there to have been a little more angst, but it was a nice change of pace. If you are looking for a new NA romance without a lot of drama and you love celebrity gossip, this is definitely a book you will enjoy!
