Shattered Melodies

Rate this book
In the heart of Oakwood Grove, a town where secrets echo through the streets, two shattered souls are about to collide once more.
Liam and Caleb were inseparable—bound by their love for music and an unbreakable connection that knew no limits. But a devastating accident struck a dissonant chord, tearing them apart and shattering their dreams of a future together. While Liam's world crumbled around him, Caleb vanished, leaving him to pick up the pieces alone.

Years later, Liam returns to his hometown, a shell of the man he once was, desperate to escape the confines of the life his parents carved out for him. In Oakwood Grove, he's confronted by the ghosts of his past, including Caleb—the one who got away, now living a life Liam can scarcely recognize.

As old wounds reopen, they're forced to confront the truth about what really happened that fateful night, and the guilt, shame, and fear that kept them apart for all these years. In a town steeped in prejudice and secrets, can their love transcend the pain of their past? Or will the echoes of their shattered melodies be doomed to haunt them forever?

"Shattered Melodies" is a heart-rending tale of first love, second chances, and the power of music to heal even the deepest wounds. With richly drawn characters and an emotional intensity that will leave you breathless, this angsty romance will resonate with anyone who has ever loved and lost.

Po The Words Beneath The Noise: An MM Romance ta książka była jak kubeł zimnej wody 🫤 Jakby zupełnie dwie różne osoby to pisały 👀

The Words Beneath The Noise: An MM Romance...

3.5☆
This book had a lot of potential, I really liked the premise, it was deffinitely right up my alley. And while I really enjoyed parts of it, there were some issues too, mainly some continuity issues and a couple of times I felt like plot points were based on information that we didn't have.

I also felt like there was a bit too much happening, we had Liam's issues with his parents and their company, his music career, Caleb's financial issues at the ranch and also them trying to navigate the rekindling of their relationship. I felt like it would have been enough for them to focus on their relationship and process and work on their trauma. I also felt like they read younger than their ages, and especially Liam acted way younger than his age, that could be because of his trauma and upbringing though.

I really enjoyed how the story started and it was nice to meet them as teenagers and see how their relationship started. I loved how music was something they shared and their musical chemistry was really good. Then at their prom something happened and they didn't see each other for 20 years. Honestly I was really mad at Liam for believing his parents when they said something about Caleb(especially because they weren't supportive of his dreams of being a musician and they were appalled when they found out about them) and for not standing up to them and doing their bidding for 20 years. I felt like 10 years of this would have been more believable, but I also know that enmeshment is real and parents can be controlling, but sometimes I struggled to see what was keeping Liam in line and doing what his parents want.

Liam goes back to Oakwood Grove after 20 years and reconnects with Caleb. Both have been pining and longing after each other for the past 20 years and were mistakenly blaming each other, when it was really a miscomunnication. I liked how they found their way back to each other and really enjoyed their relationship. I love their love of music and how great they play together.

I loved their idea for fixing the ranch's financial issues and how Liam finally got out of under his parents thumb, but the ending felt a bit rushed. Everything got resolved in the last 3 chapters and I would have loved to see more of them living their HEA.

This book was ah-mazing! It was such a beautiful debut, that I wholeheartedly plan to read everything written by this author!

The young love between Caleb and Liam was so sweet, and the heartbreak when they were torn apart by a devastating accident was tragic.

Decades pass, but the two still think of one another. Needing closure, needing answers, the two reunite, and therein lies the bulk of this gorgeous story.

It was so well written, you could feel what the characters were feeling. You were even drawn in to the side characters stories, but it was just the right amount of detail that it was easy to follow along with the storyline.

Again, this was a beautiful debut, and I cannot wait to see what comes next!

I enjoyed this book, Caleb and Liam are a sweet couple. Caleb is gentle and understanding and I liked how he didn’t push. I liked how music kept bringing them back together. This book happens to be a childhood fantasy of my own (falling in love with a rockstar or being a secret rockstar and falling in love), it was fun to see it play out on the page. My favorite scene is when one of them (not saying who) is playing and the other one is doing the “doorway lean” watching and loving every moment. One of them is a prankster and I enjoyed living vicariously through it since I hate pranks in real life.

This was a great first novel from an author I will be following!

4.25 stars. A really good, well-rounded story, particularly as it is by a debut author. I really appreciated the use of music as a thread connecting everything through the entire book, in everything up to and including the chapter names. I wasn't quite convinced why Caleb felt such a need to blame himself for everything that happened when the MCs were young. I hope to see more of these two MCs in the next book in this series.

It was hard to read for me personally, as the main characters were still "holding feelings, 20 years later" from their high school years. It just jumped way to much in a not realistic way. Plus a lot of plot holes for me.

Second chance
Musicians
Ranch, Small Town
Secret identity
Parental emotional abuse

I loved this book so much more than I expected :) I like the fact that unlike many second chance books, this one shows the very beginning of their love story too. Their separation is very long (off page) and when they meet again, Liam and Caleb are two mature people who however still carry the weight of unresolved life issues and their lost love. It's an emotional story and very well written, with a beautiful resolution.
There are many side characters that I hope to see again too, perhaps as mcs in the next books.

This book is a heartfelt story about love, loss, and finding your way back after everything falls apart. Liam and Caleb were best friends, and more, until a tragic accident tore them apart. Years later, Liam returns to their hometown, Oakwood Grove, as a totally different person. He’s dealing with a lot of baggage, especially when he runs into Caleb.

This book does a great job of showing how past trauma can shape who you become. Liam’s not just dealing with the accident but also the pressure from his parents and the weight of everything that’s happened since. Caleb, on the other hand, has built a life that Liam can barely recognize. When they come face to face again, old feelings and unresolved issues bubble up, making things messy in a very real way.

The small-town vibe of Oakwood Grove adds to the tension. It’s one of those places where everyone knows your business, and there are plenty of secrets and prejudices lurking around. This really ramps up the stakes for Liam and Caleb as they try to figure out if they can move past everything that’s happened.

The writing is smooth and easy to get into, with just the right amount of emotion. It never feels over-the-top, which makes the characters and their struggles feel authentic. Plus, the music theme running through the story adds a nice touch—it’s like the soundtrack to their ups and downs.

Overall, this is a touching read about second chances and facing the past. If you’re into stories where love tries to conquer all, even when things get tough, this one’s worth checking out. Grayson Vale might just become one of those authors you keep coming back to.

I always have a soft spot for books set on a ranch and so knew I would enjoy reading this, but I did not just enjoy it, I loved it.
The start of the book is the introduction to Liam and Caleb meeting at school, their friendship/love grew over their love of music until fate had a horrible way of tearing them apart. Fast forward 20 years and we are reintroduced to them. Liam is on the path to destruction, still suffering from that night. Caleb is just existing, they were characters that I instantly liked. Caleb with his gentle approach not forcing the issue and Liam when he dropped his defences was kind hearted.
This story flowed smoothly and with the injection of music made the story more personal to the characters. There is one scene where the words to the music were so heartfelt I did have a tear in my eye and a aww escaped my lips.
There is a good serving of angst for all you readers that like that in a story and this balanced the book, as who always wants a smooth journey to love.
The secondary characters added to the story, whether it was the closeness of the ranch hands of friends and enemies of Liam and Caleb and there were a few there that I would love to know their story. Cough cough Jimmy.
This is a series that I know I will fall in love with from the descriptive scenes of Oakwood Grove, to the colourful characters that appear in the book and I am so looking forward to the 2nd in the series. I cannot wait read more from this author

Shattered Melodies by Greyson Vale is a deeply moving and beautifully written tale of love, loss, and redemption. The story follows Liam and Caleb, once inseparable friends bound by their love for music, who are torn apart by a tragic accident that shatters their lives and dreams. Years later, Liam returns to Oakwood Grove, haunted by the past and the choices that led him away from Caleb.

Vale masterfully captures the raw emotions of both characters as they confront the pain and guilt that have kept them apart. The tension between Liam and Caleb is palpable, and their journey to heal old wounds and rediscover their connection is both heartbreaking and hopeful. The setting of Oakwood Grove, with its secrets and prejudices, adds depth to the story, making their struggle for love and acceptance even more poignant.

The novel is a powerful exploration of how the past can haunt us, but also how love can be a force for healing. Vale’s writing is lyrical and evocative, drawing the reader into the emotional turmoil of the characters while offering a sense of hope and resilience.

Thank you Greyson Vale for the ARC of this book. This review is entirely my own.

There are no words in any language that can describe this book and how it made me feel. How good this book is.

We are introduced to Liam who is new to town and Caleb the boy the befriends him. Their love of music brings them together and a love that keeps them together. Until it doesn't.
It is twenty years later the two of them are reunited and have to find that song, that music that first brought them together.

This book took me through a whole range of emotions. Happiness, giddiness, anger sadness and some laughter. The story was lyrical and heart wrenching. I didn't want to put it down. I fell in love with Liam and Caleb amd you will root for them, cheer for them.
The side characters were awesome and didn't overpower the main characters.
I am a little unsure how I feel about the ending and that is all I will say.

This is a debut novel and I am so excited to read more from this author.

I enjoy a good second chance love story, and this is a good one. Liam and Caleb meet in high school, discover a mutual love of music which gradually turns into love for each other. After a bully outs them at their prom, Liam runs into the street where he’s struck by a car. Hospitalized for a long time, Liam’s parents prevent Caleb from visiting and immediately move away when Liam is released.

Fast forward 20 years. Caleb is still in Oakwood Grove, working on his parents’ ranch. Liam is unhappily working for his father’s company as an attorney, while secretly working as a popular indie musician – and drinking too much – at night. After another confrontation with his controlling father, Liam goes back to Oakwood Grove, purchases the house where he grew up and begins renovations.

Of course Caleb and Liam will meet – though they have to work hard for their happy ever after. I’m looking forward to visiting Oakwood Grove again and again.

This is a love story about second chances. Liam and Caleb met in high school. They developed a relationship through music. Like any typical high school, there are bullies who want to make it difficult for those that are different. In this case, the bully is Jake and he outed Liam and Caleb during prom. Liam’s parents found out about them saying Liam to run from the situation resulting in an accident.

Liam’s parents moved as soon as he gets better taking him with them and leaving Caleb behind without an explanation. 20 years later, Liam moves back to get away from his parents and reunites with Caleb. However, they each have a different version of how their relationship ended and must work through their issues in order rekindle their love.

Overall it’s a good story about second chances and missed opportunities.

Great story

3.5⭐️ rounded up to 4 because the story is so good. However, this book is desperate for an editor. There aren’t many spelling or grammatical errors, though there are some punctuation issues and a few times it switches from first to third person in the middle of a sentence.

No, the big issue is in continuity and contradiction. For instance, they fell onto the bed… then a few paragraphs later they’re walking towards the bed. This happens over and over throughout the book. Something is referenced, then several pages or several chapters later something will contradict that. It was very frustrating and really pulled me out of the story.

That said, the story itself is beautiful. I would encourage you to read it.

Shattered Melodies is Book 1 of Oakwood Grove, it is Liam and Caleb's story and it is in three parts: An Unforgettable Duet, introduces us to the pair when they are at High School, when they find one another. A bitter-sweet introduction with so much promise.

Part 2 An Unexpected Aria is just that, completely unexpected yet hinting at a hope for the future. Could it be that the end in part one was not an end at all but simply an interlude?

Finally we are given A Passionate Forte. A time of unbridled hope, amidst some very challenging moments but what would one of the best love stories I have encountered be without them? There are of course love stories which have very few, if any angst (I am lucky enough to have one) but when you are reading a novel some angst, a little bit of heartpounding, no don't do this to them, a rush of hope, the exhilaration of hoping you are right and they might find their way back to one another, it certainly keeps you turning the pages.

Greyson Vale has blown me away with his debut. I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I am a sucker for a good MM romance and wow, this one blew all the rest out of the water. A childhood romance, a school band with best friends, a school bully who really does drive a wedge, a twenty year period of always wondering followed by some cautious steps towards reconciliation, realising the love of your life is right there in front of you and with a little kitten too - if your heart doesn't melt then I can only assume you don't have one!

Incredibly hot and sexy, Liam and Grayson are adorable. They are men so don't expect things to always be said as clearly as they could be, especially when they are boys. Becoming adults doesn't necessarily make them any less tongue-tied but still... It is all in the telling of the story and Greyson Vale knows how to do that. I can imagine all the blood sweat and tears that went into this story are some of those that it reflects. If you want a simple love story this one is not for you. If you want a complex love story with threads, music and cowboys this one is for you. If you want an easy journey don't pick this one up, if you are ready for the long haul, for characters to surprise you, for the contrast of the big city and the country ranch, for the glam of the life of a star versus the hard work of the cowboy this is for you. If you are ready for a love story that will leave you speechless, teary-eyed with joy and cheering your newfound book bestfriends on then this is very much the book for you.

Prepare to be haunted by the power of this story, by the power of music, love and finding your soulmate. Be prepared to be unable to put this one and for the desperate feeling of waiting for Book 2. Be prepared for an outstanding new voice in MM romance. Be prepared for Greyson Vale.

I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my review.

Shattered Melodies was a a story between Caleb and Liam and the chance that was torn away from them when they were young.

This story was so heartbreaking in the best way and was so beautiful. Their story and their love was so amazing to read. The slow burn was perfect and tasteful. The side characters *cough cough Peanut* were also amazing in this story.

I enjoy reading this and I hope you do too!

This is about a second chance and rekindled love. Liam and Caleb were once in love when they were young. A lot happened. They meet again. Together, they have to face their past trauma for a future together. It is slow burn. There is some spice, but the focus lies on the MCs feelings. To me, it felt a bit long worded now and then. But I liked the idea of the story. HEA guarantee.

Ugh this story hit at the heart strings! This was the best story I have read about second chances and the trial and tribulations of a battered past. I really enjoyed all of the character building. The spice could have been turned up a notch but other than that I loved this story! Caleb and Liam are those kind of characters that stick with you!

This was an ARC I was provided by the author in exchange for a review.

I really enjoyed the slow burn of this one. The journey of the main characters from teenagers to adults and the challenges they had. Liam and Caleb has a tough time as teenagers, and grew apart due to a misunderstanding but ended up finding each other again and giving their relationship a real try. The ups and downs in the story kept me engaged and wondering what was coming next.

There were a few moments of continuity that made me go back and read a few bits again to ensure I understood the timeline and the story. However that did not take away from the sweet story of Caleb and Liam. I would absolutely read more from this new and up and coming author!

20 years ago, Liam walked into Oakwood high. Little did he know he would soon meet Caleb, the boy who would forever change his life. As Caleb and Liam’s friendship grows, their connection through music draws them closer together. They learn to lean on and ultimately love each other. When tragedy strikes and Liam leaves town, it takes 20 years and a lot of sleepless nights for him to return. Can their friendship be repaired and is it too late for love to start again? Will they make beautiful music together or will they hit a bad chord?

This debut novel by Author Greyson Vale is such a sweet and endearing story. Best friends to lovers to strangers and then a hard-won second chance. I know you will love Liam and Caleb as much as I do . And I cant wait to get back to all the small town drama of Oakwood in book two. Also, many of the side characters are a lot of fun. I hope we get to see more from them in book two.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
