In a world where fairytales keep coming to life, there’s a bureau dedicated to helping the victims caught up in the Grimm Effect. But sometimes even those investigators fall prey to a happily ever after…

The big, bad wolf is about to go down.

Through sheer determination—and a whole lot of stubbornness—I, Blanche Hood, managed to evade the Red-Cap curse. Unlike my mom, I didn’t fall for the huntsman or get eaten by the wolf, but I did gain a purpose. I became an agent for the Fairytale Bureau. My job? Countering the ugly side of the Grimm Effect.

My latest case involves a string of murders by a wolf, but I keep getting distracted by my neighbor. I will resist his growly voice. I will not notice the way his muscles bulge. I don’t have time for romance because I need to focus on my job, especially since the perpetrator is taunting me. The killer is asking for a showdown, and he’s going to get it. He won’t be able to resist when I don my red hood to act as bait.

Things don’t quite go as planned. Turns out the wolf was under my nose this entire time. By the time I discover the truth, it’s too late. Too late to lament the fact I was played. Too late to regret what could have been, and when I foolishly walk into a trap, it will take a miracle to save me. But everyone knows the Brothers Grimm stories don’t always have happily-ever-afters.

If only love truly could break the curse.

Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .

I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.

Grimm fairy tales manifest in the real world as a curse in people's lives. Pushing people to complete the story and sometimes in bloody and killer ways.

Cute, with great character build that had me instantly liking the main characters and their close family and friends. The simple idea of a twisted curse in life and each character trying to break their curse is interesting. Add in a romantic aspect, and it is also sweet.

It's a simple tale, with easy quirks and basic romance and a little smut.

This wasn’t one of Langlais’ better writing. To cliched, predictable, and full of cheesy lines. The story was rushed. The romance and attraction non existent. And typical self publish issues like editing. It could have been better all around. But it fell short. Only a 3 star because it was creative.

I could describe this book with clichéed phrases like "putting a modern spin on the grim fairytails" but that wouldn't do the story justice at all.
The premise is really quite something but the book actually pulls it off despite how ridiculous it sounds at first.
But the story starts to crumble when the actual investigation into the wolf serial killer gets going.
All sorts of clues and suspicious details are brought up and then just dropped and never talked about again. Initially its not great and could be a lot better, but its fine.
Then the story gets caught up in personal business of the MC for too long which hurts the pacing especially because they are supposed to chase a murderer that has been killing multiple people every day (which is a completely insane proposition in itself, but whatever).
I expected the MC to be severely sleep deprived and do nothing but work on the case for 18-20 hours a day. But she gets tangled up in all sorts of free-time activities like meeting a hot guy for netflix and chill as well as call of duty gaming sessions which just felt completely out of place.
But fine, work-life balance I guess, whatever.
Then, around 78%, the plot completely falls apart. The entire cast of characters is suddenly so stupid that I am seriously impressed they are able to tie their shoes on their own.
The TSTL-o-meter goes right past the red zone and starts doing loops.
Do you know how in some series there is the stupid police department that falls for every red hering and is generally intolerably stupid and the MC has to put things right because everyone around her is ludocriously incompetent? That police department is the MC and her department in this book.
That is where I dropped. Doesn't matter how well-done and interesting the world-building is, how decent the smut is, or how interesting the characters are.
The plot is just unacceptably terrible and I just can not deal.

This author infuriates me every time by now because with every book it really looks like she should be capable of writing amazing books and I want to read those! But every time there is something fundamentally wrong with basic reasoning or right after the author broke the mold and actually came up with something new and interesting she falls back on extremely tired clichées and throws it all away. I know this phrase is extremely corny but I feel like I can see real potential every time!

I enjoyed the audio book. That I couldn’t wait to get the other two books as well.
I like the plot and the twist on Red Ridding Hoods tail. The two main Characters Red and the Wolf and how they get together. What brings them together and Red being a cop for the Grimm Dept. and had to solve the murders and catch the serial killer. With the help of the other main characters who get there own books Cinder and Belle there romance too.
This does have Spicy and romantic moments throughout the book when Red and the Wolfe get together.
With the plot the author did write in a few funny scenes to help break up the seriousness of the plot. This where you also meet the Knights who for this day an age are kinda like the SWAT team for Police.
You start to learn about the Grimm Affect and them wanting to learn how to stop it. This is a plot that expands to all three books in the series.

Good book
4.5 stars. I enjoyed listening to this book. Hood is a bad ass agent working for the fairytale bureau who hunts down bad fairy tale characters. The concept of the world being affected by Grims fairytale characters is very interesting. I enjoyed reading about this world, and the characters were interesting. I also enjoyed the mystery of who the serial killer is. The plot was more dominant in this book than the romance between her and Aiden. But the small amount of romance between them was enough for me to see their attraction and interest for each other. This was a good book with a good mystery that had me wondering.

I absolutely enjoyed this one! I listened to it nonstop and enjoyed this world where Grimm fairytales come to life! The FMC is fierce and I just loved her attitude. I really loved the investigation into the wolf case and even though I figured it out, I very much enjoyed it. The narrator, Sierra Kline did a wonderful job portraying the FMC and the other characters as well. Kept me engaged till the very end.

A very special thanks to Tantor Audio for the ALC.

Okay, that was just awesome! Fairytales coming to life, and not in an always good way, and a bureau made up of those who’d been Grimm’d to investigate and fight the negative results and effects, oh my!!! This had it all, action, mystery, adventure, whimsy, romance, heat, steam, and what you thought you knew about HEA’s turned upside down and flipped all around. Cannot wait for more <3

CW! Check author's site for full list.
I really do love a twisted fairy tale and Eve is one of the best at it!
It had you on the edge and just when you thought you had it figured out, BAM, the twist! I'm going to dive into the next in the series.

good read

Interesting take on grim fairytales and as always this author gives us a feisty female lead. Loved the twists and turns of the story and the budding romance between red and her wolf. Good read.

Lighthearted urban fantasy that doesn’t take a lot of time or brain cells to read. Was a nice break from my more serious thrillers

Hood's Caper

If you like a twisted, strange version of fairy tales, then you will love this author's interpretation. It's well written and I really enjoyed reading it.

AWESOME

A great spin on Grimm’s Fairytales! Nobody does it like Eve Langlais. Her heroines tend to save the day as well as their male counterparts with flair, sassiness and smarts!
