This book was like getting a vaccine. You know you need it, but you know it’s not going to be fun. In the end, am I glad that I went through with it? I guess so.
On a more serious note, I think it’s a helpful book. However, my greatest critique is that the authors never chose their intended audience. Instead of writing either for the church or for those more critical scholars outside the church, they chose a middle path that neither engages nor persuades either crowd. There are some really great things in the book, but the good content was overshadowed by the defensive tone of the authors. In summary, you can’t write a book that will be please ETS, SBL, and atheists.
