Full confession, Dannika Dark takes up a lot of space on my Audible App. I have devoured all of her series. I began with Seven and never looked back. While each of the series takes place in the same world, giving a familiarity to the magic, packs, and other supernaturals, each series holds its own and sometimes we see beloved characters again. I highly recommend listening to the Black Arrowhead series in order as we watch this pack form and bond.

Archer Swift isn’t really the type you think of as mate material. He is a player, a little crass and doesn’t believe in love. He thinks back fondly about the one who got away. Everything changed when a chance encounter brings him face to face with Cecilia again.

Cecilia is an introvert, and I connected with her. She isn’t in a good relationship, so be aware if domestic violence and emotional abuse trigger you. Dark did a great job of showing her vulnerability. There is a little miscommunication between Archer and Cecilia regarding the past, and I enjoyed watching their romance unfold. The relationship unfolds slowly, with Cecilia’s safety and happiness being addressed first.

Of course, the pack is there and I love the way this motley crew of loners and outcasts have come together as a family. They are supportive and protective of the underdog. We have moments that a serious, suspense, laughter, swoons and good food. Great pacing and an addictive tale kept me listening waaay past my bedtime. It was well worth the extra coffee required the next day.

Nicole Poole narrates as she does all of Dark’s audios. I once said Dannika Dark is my drug and Nicole Poole is the dealer…lol This still holds true. She brings these characters to life and allows me to slip into their story. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

Story 5 stars. Narration 5 stars
This is the fifth book in this series by Dannika Dark. As always, she has written a book full of romance and yes even a bit of angst and suspense. It features Archer, a wolf who has only one arm and is very conscious about it and ever living a good life again. It also features Cecilia, a shy, soft spoken woman, stuck in a bad relationship. They’ve already met and been intimate once before when the book starts. A one night stand neither can forget. When they meet again and she’s with her live in boyfriend, it takes a toll on both of them. Her boyfriend has isolated her from everyone and controls everything she does.

I loved being with this pack and all its members again. By now they all seem like old friends. I loved both of the main characters-Archer in particular. He’s so caring and sweet to Cecilia. And of course I enjoyed the writing itself. It’s wonderfully written by this author as all her books are. My only problem I had was that now we have to wait patiently for the next one! Highly recommended to adult paranormal romance readers.

Always a winner for paranormal romance.

Dannika Dark is a great author. Her books are dependable. There will always be a meaningful dramatic situation, something will be very wrong, someone will be hurt and someone will be a hero. At times the heroes are a little morally grey but they are heroes, never the less. More than one hero mostly.
It's the depth of the story that really shines. Broken people that overcome the worst situations.
The writing is great and the characters are better.

So, I hate this universe with every fiber of my being. But this particular installment is arguably less objectionable than some of the others.

Don't get me wrong. Dannika Dark has some recurring problems with this world. Setting aside the fact she made the bizarre decision to invent her own breeds of magical humanoids, and has those made-up species interacting with vampires and shifters? The laws and logic of this world are fucked up. Shifter culture is misogynistic, racist, homophobic, and transphobic. Characters care about racial purity WAY too damn much.

Increasingly, I'm finding that all of her books are love stories about communal living. Even if, ostensibly, it's a love story between a man and a woman. The love triangles are never taken all that seriously. In this particular installment, the horse-shifter female lead was in an abusive relationship with a tiger-shifter man. He was clearly not the love of her life, but a one-armed werewolf sure was.

There was never really any doubt who Cecilia was going to end up with.

But, that's the thing. This novel was so clearly trying to be a cautionary tale about domestic violence. Cecilia was a passive, submissive waif of a woman, and her tiger boyfriend controlled and isolated her. He didn't let her keep food in the house, didn't want her to have a job or a means of transportation, didn't encourage her to make friends, and then they went through the classic cycles of abuse.

It was a pretty stereotypical, cookie-cutter domestic violence story.

I'm glad that Dannika Dark was on the right side of that issue. Thank God she wasn't pro-domestic violence. But, still, the protagonist did very little to save herself. It's more a story about how the "pack" with its communal living situation rescued Cecilia. The one-armed man who's a fantastic lover did a lot of the work rescuing Cecilia. There was maybe one scene where Cecilia kicked in horse form. Beyond that...

The pack showed up and taught Cecilia the joys of home decoration and eating food that you actually like.

I don't understand why the author keeps writing about communal living as if it's the most amazing thing in the world. The book series I started with, the Cross-Breed books (set in the same universe) also have all the main characters living together in a sort of castle. The author spends so much time talking about their lack of electricity, and whose job it is to do chores around the house. And she keeps acting like living in a "pack" is clearly the greatest thing that could happen to a person. Earlier books in this series talked about a group of strangers coming together and competing just to be in the pack.

The "packmaster" is, so far as I can tell, an unemployed guy. He has no particular education or skills. He was just born an alpha, and that gives him a couple extra magical powers (like the ability to thicken his penis), and therefore everyone respects his authority.

It's mindboggling.

Dannika Dark is weirdly anti-education. Her characters never attend college, or even trade school. Here, the protagonist opens a kind of book store with no education or training whatsoever. In the previous novel, a different female protagonist became an accountant without any education or training. No one ever talks about going away to college, and no one ever seems to have professional, white-collar jobs. We're supposed to think that two female leads have the best job ever because they own their own shop where they make jewelry and clothes.

... Of course, then they're expected to share their store's profits with the pack, including their unemployed "alpha" husbands.

The society that Dannika Dark designed, and seems so proud of, is sick. Our protagonist is at risk of being passed around and sold as a sex slave because of the way she goes into heat. The books keep talking about the threat of sexual violence for women, and it appears that the "higher authority" occasionally alluded to in these novels cares very little about sexual violence.

These books keep ignoring humans altogether, claiming that every single character lives in a "breed" town. But, 90 percent of Cecilia's problems would be solved by getting a human roommate, and bringing in human law enforcement. Breed government doesn't seem to have any laws against rape, but humans do. The Higher Authority is only concerned with punishing a shifter for changing forms in public, risking exposure to humans.

If Cecilia lived somewhere surrounded by humans, she could just call the regular cops if her abusive boyfriend beat her. He would then be obligated to stay in human form around human authorities. Maybe he could still beat her in that form, but human cops with guns could also definitely kill him in that form.

She should just get a human roommate and travel everywhere with her. If Noah turned into a tiger around the human, then Cecilia would have the evidence to actually get the Higher Authority to care.

This "breed" culture sounds TERRIBLE. You're telling me that if I'm any kind of supernatural being in this reality, I'm expected to live in a pack with a bunch of other people, share my paychecks with them, and the pack's alpha is able to tell me who I'm allowed to date, how much money I have to give up, what chores I'm expected to do for free, etc.? And I'm never expected to go to college or get any sort of white collar job? If I do try to pick up a job, I HAVE to rely upon my own wits and trial and error, because I'm not ALLOWED to take a class in bookkeeping? If I'm female, I'm constantly at risk for sexual violence and slavery?

WHY ARE YOU FANTASIZING ABOUT THIS, DANNIKA DARK!? WHY DO YOU THINK THIS IS COZY FOR US? THIS IS FUCKED UP.

I really enjoyed this one,but can see how it may turn others off since it contains unfaithfulness.  Not between the MCs, but it is a theme of the book.  I liked seeing Cecilia get out of a really bad situation and stand up for herself.

Sinner brings it all to the table. Full throttle from page one this remarkable love story of sacrifice, found family and redemption brings together Cecilia a young troubled woman trapped in a dangerous and abusive relationship and Archer a man tormented by a past that deeply haunts his every decision. Both CiCi and Archer have found love in all the wrong places and have suffered unimaginable consequences for their decisions.

Can Archer and CiCi find the courage to heal and fight for the happiness they both so desperately deserve? Read another epic tail from a master of love stories for the ages. Hands down best romance books to be found!

Cecilia is an introvert who rarely leaves the house, but she must overcome her fears in order to sell her late father's extensive book collection. When she encounters a handsome wolf from her past, her world turns upside down. She can't seem to escape him, and the secret they share could destroy her life.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

Another good addition to the Black Arrowhead Series. I thought that Archer and Cecelia were great together. Man, I usually hate cheating in books but I don’t blame Cecelia for what she did. It was a way to escape the hell she’s been living through and have something she truely wanted. I absolutely hated Cecelia’s boyfriend Noah. Wow, hearing the reason why Archer lost his arm was heartbreaking. Yes, what he did was wrong but it takes two to tango and if they were in such a happy committed relationship no matter what was offered they wouldn’t stray. I think that Tak is an amazing Packmaster as he lets his pack mates current actions show him what type of people they are no matter if he’s heard about their past.

I believe this could be because of his past mistake and the reason he got half his face tattooed. I’m really looking forward to each of the remaining pack members, Calder included getting their own stories. I wonder if we’ll eventually find out why he’s the way he is. There’s so many characters from the Mageriverse that I’d love their stories like Lennon, Hendrix, Finn, Lucian’s brothers’, Novis, Adam and Sadie and a continuation to Simon and Ella’s Mageri novel Risk as I totally loved them. I’d happily read anything that Dannika decides to write. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, Mageriverse and author to everyone.

In this Black Arrowhead series book we meet our next couple Archer and Cecilia. I enjoyed seeing all the characters from all from the earlier books. Cecilia popped up in the last book briefly but we get to know her story along with Archer in this one. Her life was not easy and she was stronger than she thought she was. Of course she had Archer’s and the rest of the Arrowhead for support. There was never a dull moment. Very entertaining story.

Returning to the Black Arrowhead series world always makes me happy. I’m a bit behind in the series but was happy to discover that this book can be read as a stand-alone. This story follows Cecilia and Archer. This story touches on some sensitive topics such as DV and disability. I felt like the author does a beautiful job on the sensitive topics and showcases the mental and physical abuse and how Cecilia navigates through it all. Archer is trying to help Cecilia when he notices how Cecilia behaves around her boyfriend. I don’t want to spoil it for others but the story really comes to a full circle and I love how the pack supports Cecilia and Archer. I love how their characters grew as the story progressed.
The narrator, Nicole Poole does a phenomenal job portraying the characters. The tones and inflections used are spot on.

A very special thanks to Tantor Media for the gifted copy.

Beautiful and Breathtaking

Last night I started The Sinner only planning to read for a couple of hours and then go to sleep. Next thing I knew, it was 4am and I had finished the book. I am running on about 2 hours of sleep and I regret nothing.

If you haven’t read Dannika Dark’s books you are seriously missing out on an amazing world and an incredible writer. I’ve spoken about each series before and while her first series, Mageri, holds a special place in my heart, her shifter paranormal romance series are some of the best shifter books I’ve ever read.

The Sinner is the 5th book in the Black Arrowhead series and stars Archer, a wolf shifter with only 3 legs and Cecelia, an introverted horse shifter who has a serious case of social anxiety and is in an abusive relationship. There may be some triggers such as physical and emotional abuse, and mention of relationship r***.

This is a story about two people who are hurting deeply and find the strength in each other to start to heal from their traumas. Dannika has a magical way of storytelling these beautiful characters and their world. I laughed, I sobbed, I got so angry I wanted to throw my kindle. She makes you feel everything they are going through and then some. If you need some healing if your own, give this series a chance but please start with the Seven Series first. It’ll make you enjoy these characters even more.

Now off to reread the first book 🥰

Definitely one of my favorite reads this year!! This story centers around love and acceptance. There are so many difficult elements like disability and trauma that the author portrays with authenticity and care. The author has a beautiful gift for writing characters that feel so real, you think you'd run into them at a grocery store or on the street! This book made me laugh, cry and feel all the emotions in-between! The growth each character experiences is wonderful to read about and the dynamic between the characters and the side characters make you feel like a part of their family ❤️

Oh my heart! I'm still swooning from this book and how absolutely wonderful Archer is!

This book 1000% deserves its five stars!

"The Sinner" is the 5th book in an amazing series from Dannika Dark, the first four books were truly wonderful, however my heart is with this installment.

We are introduced to Archer in book 3, and we are not given much info on him except that he is a "tripod" (missing his arm) and that he is an extremely hard worker, not letting his missing limb slow him down as much as possible. Book 4 briefly introduces us to Cici and how she and Archer first met.

Throughout this book we are exposed to physical and mental abuse, something that hasn't been written about in this series so far. Dannika did such a great job writing about a difficult subject. The way she introduced Cici as a victim, shined a light on all the suffering she has endured, and then continued to share the story of how Cici overcame her circumstances and bettered her life, was inspiring to read.

Then we have Archer, the deeper look we get into his life was so special. We learn about how he became a tripod, his low point afterwards, and how hard he fought to get to where he is for this part of his story. The shame he feels about his missing limb, how inadequate he feels, makes the readers just fall for him. I absolutely adore Archer's character, everything he went through and everything he is now. It felt like an honor to get to read about his story.

This story was incredible to read, I found myself sitting up far too late at night to devour it as quickly as possible! It is by far my favorite story so far in this series.

For those who want to read spicy books, this is not it. There is some spice, but overall only a 2 on the spice level. This story is not about the sex, but about standing up for yourself and healing both mentally and physically.

If you love shifter novels, this series is a great one, and it seems to just keep getting better and better 🥰

Another great Arrowhead couple!

Another great story in the Black Arrowhead series. Archer lost his arm due to unfortunate circumstances. He met Cecelia when she helped save Mercy’s life. Unfortunately Cecelia isn’t in a position to be with him.

This book has all the angst and heartbreaking moments of two people trying to overcome both their past and present lives. Cecelia is in a relationship with a man who psychologically and physically abuses her. But she just can’t seem to find a way out. Archer is a “defective” wolf who doesn’t feel like any woman would or should want him. Not only due to his past mistakes but also his missing arm.

Together these two must decide to take a leap of faith and choose each other rather than go on as they have been.

I loved how tender Archer naturally was with Cici. He just instinctively knew how to make her feel safe and comfortable. Cecelia didn’t have any issues with his missing arm and treated him like anyone else. She also wanted to take care of him, she was a natural born caregiver but that’s not what he wanted so they had to find a compromise.

Can’t wait for the next book!

Wow I absolutely love this book this has got to be my favorite book I think by Dannika dark she really did a really great job with this a very inspiring story for survivors of domestic violence as well as somebody who survived brutal attack of him losing his arm you know I really can think of it any two people that could have been better suited for one another so Cecilia's father was a shifter and her mother was human died in childbirth and he was very wonderful father to her and but she's very introverted she's very quiet I could definitely relate to her character and when her father passes away she basically a cares on his Legend of these books these extraordinary books and she started a business with it and Noah was her abusive partner just really insulted everything that she did that she was trying to just find something in life to give her some more peace and meaning and he just tore her down every chance he could then there's Archer who he pretty much was kind of like a lady's man for the longest time and you know people would vet him to sleep with this chick or do that and he kind of just got really motivated by all this attention but these just kept getting more extreme and more crazy and eventually somebody who gets affected by that really gets the revenge on Archer unfortunately but I don't think Archer was to blame because honestly you know it was consensual on both ends so the really you know wasn't anything that he was guilty of but the experience did I think make him a better person but because he had one arm he had been treated poorly because of that and you know any kind of disability that you have people just tend to you know insult you because of that and it is true it is true you know I never had these disabilities either and the disabilities that I have has completely changed my life because it makes you see things in a totally different way before the disability there's just so many narrow-minded people out there and discrimination that you know you just see a whole new picture of of life in your new before and that's why I really like this book because it really opens the reader's eyes to to what it's really like to be disabled and and you know how people treat you but I do think that it's very sweet and so I don't want to say it but Cecilia and Archer are two different animal shifters so that's very interesting here too and Tack so archers Alpha and pack leader really becomes an inspiration to both of them and I don't want to say but it's just it's very heartwarming I think there's not too many heartwarming books like this in the Paranormal world but it's really really special once you can find one of these it's it's truly wonderful and something also good to point out is a disability it's easy to just get negative and just see how life is just crap but I like how he does start to become more positive in the end after the the relationship and Rapport that he develops with Cecilia and I truly believe this and I'm living proof of this that you really need to surround yourself with positive people because negative people can just just make your life more toxic and that will bring you down and it's not worth it and in the end the pack does help her work with more survivors of domestic violence in the shifter world and I think that's really great and yes Noah was a psychotic tiger shifter which really gives Tigers a bad name right because I don't think tigers are really that bad but he really puts Tigers to shame with his behavior but everything works out in the end and so that's good I really hope we get to see another book but I think this might be the final book unfortunately but I can definitely relate to Archer's character as far as a disability is concerned not about the ladies men and all that but just mainly the disability part and I'm very proud that the author did this book to show more education on disabilities

I was lucky enough to win the audiobook in a giveaway!

If you're looking for a wild ride that intertwines romance, thrilling action, and a bit of deep dive into real-world pain and trauma, "Sinner" is your ticket to an unforgettable journey! This book was a rollercoaster of emotions for me and I loved every minute of it.

From the moment you meet CiCi and Archer, their chemistry sizzles off the pages. Their journey isn’t just about romance; it’s an exploration of overcoming adversity and confronting one's past. The intense scenes will have your heart racing, and yes, be prepared for some moments that hit hard—especially if you’ve ever faced relationship struggles. Those scenes made me quite furious, but that’s what makes this story resonate.

Do not forget about the steam that Dannika brings to her stories. The well-crafted, tantalizing scenes bring a whole new level of excitement to the narrative. It’s a perfect blend of passion and intensity that keeps you eagerly turning the pages.

I am still cheering for CiCi and Archer! Their story is a celebration of resilience and love amidst chaos. Just remember, strong emotions are part of the ride, and if you can handle that, you’re in for a treat!

Another winner

Trigger warning - This book covers the topic of domestic abuse.
Dannika has always written her books with not just thought, but feeling and understanding about a range of sensitive topics.
I'm sure there will be complaints from some about the sensitive topic that is covered in this book and for some it may bring back trauma that's been buried instead of seeking help to heal from.
I myself have known women (friends) who have been victim's of domestic abuse, many people think it's only physical but as Dannika showed in her book and her comments at the end, there are many different forms of domestic abuse.
The whole subject was covered with sensitivity and expertise, which just goes to show that Dannika does her research. But it's her skill as an author that she can create stories from such delicate and often whispered topics, giving the reader not just a story to loose yourself in but to educate us whilst doing so.
Well done Ms Dark, and hurry up with the next book I'm already in withdrawal 😂

This was a good read but a hard one at the same time. The book covers domestic violence and such it's really hard to see but it's even harder to be in that person's mind. You know logically that they're a victim but at the same time it's so frustrating hearing them believe the things the abuser says or justifies it when normally you KNOW that a person would not take that. As a result it's difficult to read. However once it moved past that it was much lighter and more enjoyable simply because the dark topic was less in your face. The final couple was also very sweet. Both have to face trauma of different kinds and ending up drawing strength from each other. It really is well done and I love the growth of the pack from book to book. I hope that we continue to see growth of the pack and we maybe get some more newbies to bring chaos to the group. I hope we do get the rest of the group's story. I'm so excited to see who is next.

The Sinner Two damaged people--both physically and emotionally find each other. They each have baggage. One is an extrovert. One is an introvertl. One is a predator. One is not. It's true that opposites can attract and what was broken can be whole. This book explores all those things through the eyes of Archer and Cecelia. While some of the "inner voices" got a little tedious, there is still a lot of action and emotion in this story. I enjoyed it and I'm curious who will get the next story and when some of the "dangling" threads from other characters will be sewn up. Dannika is very good at weaving lives and stories together in her series. Nicole Poole does an excellent job narrating.

Fantastic read

I truly don't know what to say when I do reviews only because I never want to give anything away. I will tell you that this is Archer's story in the black Arrowhead series. Even though this is fantasy, it does have some very real subject matter. I'm sure the book already has trigger warning, so I don't need to get into any of that. I only want to say that the story is done extremely well. This is definitely a page turner of a story. I am enjoying every single one of these stories of this series, and I can't wait until the next one comes out. Of course this book like all the others has a bit of craziness to it and and I always love how all the characters are in the story they pay play whether big or small part of Archer's story as they should because they're living as a pack. I definitely recommend it.

A 3.5 Star Read and Listen.⭐️♥️
The Sinner: Black Arrowhead Series, Book 5
By: Dannika Dark
🎧 Audiobook Narrated by: Nicole Poole
Length: 11 hrs and 4 mins
📖 Ebook

Nicole Poole is a 'must listen' narrator!⭐️

This couple come together as friends through their ability to share their inner demons. Also, hes a natural protector, and as she's quite submissive, they fit quite naturally.

As time passes, they agree to give a relationship a try. His past ghosts and how he became an amputee eventually come to the surface. They have to work through it, including his cousins' fears and preconceived ideas. Her naivety about shifter life, as well as her abusive prior relationship, are her biggest hurdles!

The Alpha, again, makes wonderful heartwarming decisions!♥️

This was my least favourite book in this series so far.🤷🏻‍♀️

I really liked the last 40% of the book. The first part had to do with an antagonist who was abusive. There was quite a bit of tension and I didn’t enjoy listening to it. I read romance book for the lightness of it. This was a bit heavy for me. Celeste stayed with her boyfriend as she didn’t know anything else and how relationships work. Archer has his own demons with the history of how he lost his arm. Lots of heavy parts sprinkled with a few sweet moments. I was tempted to stop listening before the book ended but I wanted to know how the book turned out. Then it took off in the last part and it became very interesting and heartfelt at the end. I think most people will like the strong character growth the MC’s went through.

Amazing! I love reading about Archer and Cecilia's story!

Dannika Dark really shows how abusers are great at manipulation and making their significant other isolated and questioning herself.

Cecilia finds herself questioning everything when she meets Archer. Archer has his baggage and insecurities, but Cecilia doesn't care about 'defects' like the rest of the breed world. Archer is kind and caring. He doesn't belittle her and enjoys her company. Like most abusers, Noah doesn't like seeing her happy and thriving.

With the help of Tak and his pack, Cecilia overcomes her past.

I love how all of Dannika Dark side characters feel like family and are a big part of her stories.

Good story! Well crafted storyline! I am always impressed by this authors’ stories. The characters really become life-like and the camaraderie that the pack has is a joy to watch. They are like ducks on the water—calm on the surface but there is something going on under the surface.

This one really went places I did not expect. I was shocked a couple times at things that happened. I like the pack and how they all come together. They always have each other’s backs! We learn more about each of them with each story that comes out. I can not wait for a few of their stories. Nicole Poole does an amazing job with all these different characters voices she comes up with.

loved it!

I always love all her characters and getting to know them all as we have is great! I love that. I'm curious about Joy more and more as we get to see her through the eyes of Cecilia. Loved reading about Archer and his girl though! I bought this book when it came out and finished it the next day! I loved it! Couldn’t put it down, but was kicking myself for being done so fast as now I'm waiting for the next Vow book in the series! I can’t wait to see who she writes next, to see who finds their forever person <3

Audiobook narrated by
Nicole Poole
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dannika Dark really knows how to hit you in the feels 🤜🏻💥

She writes these scumbag characters in a way that you'll never forget them.
I wish I could crawl into the books and throatpunch them!

This book was filled with laughter, tears, anger, frustration, warmth, spice, love, abuse, and humour.

I tried to read/listen to this just a little bit per day. Just so I could savour every chapter.

Nicole Poole is, as always, absolutely stellar on the narration.

I'm happy anytime I'm reading a Dannika Dark book and this one was no exception ☺️
Loved getting to know these characters and was super impressed with the way domestic violence was delt with.
It was obvious she didn't use it as a cheap way to create drama like some authors do. Unfortunately it's more common than people know, so if an author is writing about a group of people or makes sense for one of them to have gone thru this. I really appreciated the way it was handled. It's a part of the characters story, but it's not all of her story, you know?
The audio is fantastic too!
