Located in the heart of central Europe, this small country is perhaps best known for the views of the scenic Alps. In addition to its natural beauty, Austria has been a hub for European culture since the days of the Roman Empire. Find out more about the Austrian way of life in this title for young students.
My wife and I read this book in hopes of going on our trip to Central and Eastern Europe. It may be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, we cannot go either way because Kristy had a heart attack on February 22nd. We still want to read as we may be able to go next year. I usually just get a simple book to read as I only want an overview. I don't want to be embroiled in 300 pages about complicated and unnecessary details. We have been to the western part of Austria on a trip sponsored by the Box Elder School District on the way to Venice. We only stopped to visit a Swarovski's shop to buy some jewelry for Kristy. There are a lot of mountains in Austria. Its capital is Vienna in the eastern part of the country. The Danube flows through it. They speak German there. At one time, Vienna was the capital of the Holy Roman Empire. One of the HRE's main rulers was Maria Theresa. The Holy Roman Empire fostered the Roman Catholic Church. Austria is a landlocked country.
(NF) 32 pages. Another great book in the Exploring Countries series. Format and information is excellent. Great photos, charts and additional information at the end. Great job! Highly recommended Gr. 4 and up.
