Wendy Haller believes in the power of stories—the ones we tell, the ones we live, and the ones that change us along the way.
After nearly two decades as a special education preschool teacher, she traded lesson plans for plotlines and now writes stories that tug at the heart.
Her children’s books are playful and full of purpose, helping parents and kids share laughter and learning together. Her novels offer tender escapes—emotionally rich, coming-of-age tales that are raw, real, and deeply human.
When she’s not writing, Wendy can be found exploring nature, practicing yoga, or cozied up with a cup of tea, a good book, and two very spoiled cats. She lives in Connecticut with her husband and two children.
The Flannigan girls is an interesting story about the evolution of familial relationships. It is well written and very easy to read.
This is not a plot driven story. There are no twists and turns and yet you keep reading because you do want to see how the relationships charge and hopefully grow as the story goes on.
This is ultimately a feel good celebration of family love and enduring bonds.
If you like books that are character driven and explore family dynamics you should definitely give this quick read a try.
What a great book. My mom got me this at a local author signing and it did not disappoint. This was a nice switch from the psychological thrillers I’ve been reading. I loved the family components within this book. The author kept the characters raw and real. I felt that everyone was very relatable. As the oldest child myself, I felt that Becca had the weight on her shoulders at times and I empathized w her. The power of sisterhood is so captivating in this novel. I love how all three sisters bring something different to the table and how all their stories are shown.
I would love more books but told in both Beth and Laneys POV. This book was mainly the youngest-Claire’s point of view.
I love family stories! That is my favorite genre! It was an absolute pleasure to meet the author and get personal insight to her work ethic. She truly writes what she knows and took the leap to let the voice inside her develop the characters and let them speak to her! Keep up the good work! I think you are onto something 🥰😉👍🏻
Wendy Haller's storytelling immerses you in the lives of Claire, Elena, and Becca, three sisters whose bond was forged in a home that lacked affection but was filled with their love for each other. As life pulls them in different directions, the strength of their sisterly connection is tested. Claire, grappling with the increasing absences of her husband due to his new job, finds her insecurities threatening the family harmony she cherishes. Her determination to ensure her children never feel unloved leads her to confront her own feelings of neglect and ultimately reconnect with her sisters.
Haller's narrative is both poignant and uplifting, as she delves into the complexities of familial love and the unbreakable ties that bind us. The characters are richly developed, making their struggles and triumphs feel incredibly real and relatable. Claire's journey, in particular, is a powerful exploration of self-discovery and the unwavering support that only family can provide.
"The Flannigan Girls" is a testament to the enduring power of sisterhood and the importance of familial support. Wendy Haller's writing is evocative and moving, making this novel a must-read for anyone who values the intricacies of family dynamics. Prepare to be moved, inspired, and reminded of the strength found in the bonds of family.
Reading The Flannigan Girls is like cozying up on the couch to tune in to your favorite family drama. You know all of the characters, what makes them tick, and what matters the most to each of them.
As Wendy Haller’s story unfolds, you experience daily life of three sisters, now grown- Becca, Elana, and the main character and youngest, Claire.
All grown up, the three sisters have grown apart, and must piece back together the bond that held them so tightly as children in a house that didn’t show love easily.
The dialogue in this story is realistic and the events are highly relatable to anyone who knows how precarious the balance is of having a job, being a spouse, managing a household, and raising kids.
This book is full of heart and will tug your heartstrings and make you want to hug those who are dear to you.
This book is an emotional ride while emphasizing the importance of perspective taking. It accomplishes that through relatable characters and life events.
My favorite character by far is Becca who is completely misunderstood by her sister (and main character) Claire.
Also, as a mother, I love how the book depicts both the joys and struggles of parenting while having a full time job and maintaining a marriage.
This was a very well written and interesting book. It told of the lives of three sisters, the childhood years, the loss and departure years and finally the reconciliation years. It was a book that touched your heart, mind and soul. It reminded you how precious your family connections are always. I did see numerous spacing errors between words and in some paragraphs. Hopefully these errors were corrected in the final book. As these errors take away from the quality of the book. Otherwise it was a great book!!
It was so easy to imagine and relate to and empathize with these characters. The novel explores the intracacies of family relationships, and how our past can affect our present.
The Flannigan Girls by Wendy Haller. This was a really good read. I loved the cover and blurb. I got into it straight away. I loved how we see Claire as a child then grown up. Asking for help. I did get lost in this story. I couldn't put it down. I loved the flow of the story. The writing style. Everything. I did like how Claire, Elana and Becca were like. Even with Patrick. How they came together for each other. I did like the ending.

Having been in my summer romance era for the last few months, to read a really good family drama was just what I needed.
In this story we mainly follow Claire - through a fairly loveless childhood, right to present day when she's having to come to terms with her demons after her husband takes a job which takes him away from home a lot. Determined to provide a safe and loving environment for her own children, she seeks to reconnect with her sisters and rebuild the strong bond they used to have.
This was an emotional read at times which really highlighted what it's like growing up with sisters - something I never had myself and it really made me consider how my own life and personality could have been wnhanced by such a relationship in childhood?
The characters were really well presented and developed over the course of the book, especially Claire. They felt authentic and their experiences were written with care and compassion which instantly endeared me to them.
I quickly became immersed in the story and struggled to put this down - made easier by the pace and short chapter format.
Although we got glimpses at the sisters through Claire's pov, I do wonder whether Elana and Becca might also get their own books in the future? Something I'd be keen to see explored.
Oh, how I love a good sister story! “The Flannigan Girls” is a compelling, emotional, heart-touching story about three sisters, Claire, Becca, and Eliana. I have two sisters of my own and sank into this story as if it were my own.
I love it when I can see a bit of myself in the characters I read, as well as a bit of my sisters. I love the thread of love and togetherness this story centers on and how the bond from childhood carries on through life. Many things in our day to day lives pull at us, but it’s important to grasp onto what truly matters.
If you enjoy stories of family and sisterhood, this one is a wonderful choice. I love the believable characters, their growth, and the sated feeling as I finished the story. A wonderful work of women’s fiction by a new-to-me author, and what a gorgeous, nostalgic cover!

Rainy days and The Flannigan Girls by Wendy Haller is a great pairing. This family based novel introduces the reader to the main character, Claire and her sisters Becca, and Eliana; and all their family quarks. As the novel begins we experience life of the now grown and distant Claire and her sisters. As the novel continues the sisters reestablish their tight bond from childhood and the love that bonded them as small girls. The realistic dialog and narrative make their story relatable to all individuals participating in the day to day bustle of life. Pressures from home life, the professional self, family, and child rearing, are visible in the character development, dialog, and setting of this beautiful debut novel. The sensitivity of this novel shows what really matters in life, and helps put who and what is loved in life into perspective. Reading this novel was pure joy. Thank you Wendy for sharing your gifts!
This is a really lovely family saga about three sisters who, after a rough upbringing, learn about reconnecting, depending on others, and reclaiming lost voices. For the most part, we follow Claire, but there are some chapters from Beccas' point of view, too, which really helped humanise her, as she was portrayed, initially, as very robotic. I shed a number of tears throughout , much like Claire. It really captured my heart to read of the hurt residing within Claire. I loved Brita and the story of her name. That was one of the few light comedic moments throughout that gave the story more warmth. I couldn't put it down, I read 70% in one sitting, staying up later than I should, and as soon as I woke up the next day, I finished it. That's the mark of a good read in my view! I'd definitely love to read more by this author.
The Flannigan sisters grew up with a father who was more interested in sports than them and a mother who paid more attention to other children than her own. While this taught them to rely on each other they have drifted apart. Claire is the main character and we follow her story as she struggles to find herself and take care of her family.
This book is relatable for so many reasons. For those that felt abandoned by their parents and vow to be better parents themselves, for those who are single parents or have partners who are not around very much, or for those who struggle to put themselves first this book has something for everyone. This is a wonderful story of family and to challenge the status quo.
Who are the 'Flannigan Girls'...Claire, Elena, and Becca, aren't only sisters, they have always been best friends growing up. When each of then go different ways in life, the bond that has always kept them so close is tested. We follow the baby of the sisters, Claire as she struggles with life as her husband Patrick takes a new job and isn't always home. She feels that she needs to make sure her kids get plenty of love, but she's not feeling the same about herself. Claire reaches out to her sisters, for that bond that was always there between them. The story shows how families change over time even when we don't see it happening. A heart-warming story of three sisters.
This story is very character and relationship driven, so it was interesting getting a look into the lives of these people and getting to know them. I found the connections to childhood and efforts to overcome childhood experiences and do things differently as adults interesting. I think the losing connections over time with certain people was relatable and this story had me thinking about how that happens, ways that it might be patched up, and whether that is worth happening. I think in terms of plot it is simple, which is not a bad thing, just how it is. But there is still a lot within the details of this story that got me thinking outside of reading it.
This was such a great read. I love the cover of this book I loved how all the children just fit together l Iwtor couldn't put this book down. We follow Claire and her life and how she daals witk it all. The writing of this book was extremely well done. I really want to check out more from this author. I just I loved how brutally honesty this book was and how we don't realize how much our past really affects us. A really great read.
A beautifully told story about the joys and realities of life and family. You truly get invested into the characters and are rooting for their growth and happiness. I loved it!
Coming from a family of three sisters, you could feel how genuine and real this book was! I think I may have stumbled upon one of my new favorite authors!
The Flanagan Girls is a must read! In Cape Cod, as young girls, Becca Flannigan, the eldest, daughter, always hugged her younger sister Claire, from having nightmares. Now Claire is married and looking back on her childhood, she thought her mother just wasn’t the kind of hands on mother, and always seemed to care about other people’s children than her own. With them thoughts planted firmly in her mind, Claire, is now a loving wife to Patrick Rhodes, and Claire and the perfect mother to their children, where she makes sure that her kids don’t never feel the way she did during her childhood. There’s family drama, the moment when Claire realises that in fact they are so broke, they are finding it hard to pay the bills that are mounting up. Patrick then gets offered a job in Chicago, where he will move there, while Claire and their children stay put in the family home. Patrick will travel back home Fridays to be with, Claire and his children. In the weeks that Patrick isn’t home, Claire finds the weekly routine, with the children, rather hectic. But with big drama ahead do the whole family really think Claire is coping well enough, without her husband Patrick at home? The Flannigan Girls, has plenty of drama, making it a story that you won’t forget. I’m now looking forward to the next novel by author Wendy Haller.
Wow! This short book, only 201 pages, packed a punch. This is the story of Claire and her sisters Elana and Becca and their relationships. Claire is the baby of the family and has created her own family with her husband Patrick and their kids. This family is the most important thing to her. But in creating this strong, insular unit is she missing out? This is a story about family and all of the love and support and misunderstandings that go along with it. It is a story of family expectations and roles in the family and how they change over time. But most of all it is about finding your voice, learning to ask for and accept help and of letting go of the past and creating adult relationships with family. This story engaged me, moved me, and made me think about my own family relationships.
Thanks to the author and Love Book Tours for providing a copy for my honest review.
📖📖 Book Review 📖📖 I never had a sister growing up but always wanted one; but now I get to raise three girls and I hope and pray that I can instill in them a close bond that they carry with them through their lives. For the Flannigan girls, they were everything to each other growing up…but was it enough? As we all know, the adolescent years into adulthood are so hard and we carry generational trauma like a ton of bricks on our shoulders. Wendy Haller beautifully depicts what most of us probably strive for each day, to do better for the next generation, whether we are mothers ourselves or still just adult children out there in the world doing our best. No matter what your birth place is in your family of origin or what season of your life you are currently in, The Flannigan Girls will certainly resonate and validate all of those feelings that live deep inside.
"𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀" is a testament to the value of family unity and the enduring strength of sisterhood. When I first read the blurb, I was drawn in by the idea of the Flannigan girls sticking together and the way that friendship and love are intertwined. The three Flannigan sisters, Claire, Elena, and Becca, are the focus of the story, with Claire's story receiving the most attention. Their sisterly bond is put to the test as life pulls them in various directions. As her husband's new job requires him to be away from home more and more, Claire's doubts are causing her to worry about the stability of her family, which she values greatly. In order to make sure her kids never feel alone, she must face her own feelings of abandonment and, in the end, make amends with her sisters.
Thank you so much to the publisher, @stillwater_books, @wendyhaller_author, and @lovebookstours for the complimentary physical book. This #ad is my honest and personal review.
How about that cover?! As we become entwined in the lives of sisters: Claire, Elena, and Becca, we learn of their lack of love upbringing and how that bond brought them closer. Life happens and the sister go their own ways. When Claire’s insecurity roars, she reconnects and faces the past with the help of her sisters. I was impressed with the author’s ability to weave this tapestry to completion with relatable characters, truthful dialogue, and real struggles. The story digs deep and leaves you a different person than before you opened this gorgeous cover. I’m even more impressed that this is the author's debut.
This book was absolutely lovely. Beautifully written, sometimes painful but always moving. I love a good family saga - think Maeve Binchy, Marian Keyes, even Catherine Cookson - absolutely character driven and all the time based in feelings and the ever-changing nature of family connections. It was paced perfectly and really delved deep into the lives and emotions of the titular characters. It definitely left me wanting more. This is the perfect book to settle in with on the fast-approaching Autumn nights. A mug of something comforting and a compelling story that will warm your soul.
This book is a beautiful exploration of sisterhood, love, and healing. Claire’s journey felt deeply real, her struggles with loneliness and her desire to keep her family close hit all the right emotional notes. The bond between the Flannigan sisters is touching and relatable, reminding us how family can ground us even when life pulls us apart. A tender, moving story that lingers in your heart long after you finish.
