IMPROVE YOUR VISION, REDUCE WRINKLES AND REDNESS, AND RESTORE OVERALL EYE HEALTH
It can happen any time. Your eyes feel tired. You rub them. You look at yourself in the mirror and see lines, wrinkles, bags, redness that were never there before. Dry eye often starts as a minor irritation but can develop into a deeper problem affecting your vision and appearance.
Approximately 77 million Americans suffer from dry eye (also known as dysfunctional tear syndrome). And traditional solutions, such as eyedrops and eyelid surgery, may actually make the problem worse.
The Dry Eye Remedy is the first book to give dry eye sufferers simple and practical ways to restore eye health and appearance without surgery. Robert Latkany, M.D., offers: • an innovative Home Eye Spa program with a soothing eye-cleansing massage • easy environmental and lifestyle changes to help you look and feel better • cutting-edge research on which medications and procedures may help and which to avoid.
The Dry Eye Remedy is an essential tool to ensure there is “not a dry eye in the house.” --back cover
Dry eye condition is NOTHING to sneeze at. This is in sum how I feel after reading this excellent book, written by an MD who now only specializes in treating dry eyes. If you suspect you have dry eyes or know someone who does, do yourself a favor and read this book. Educate yourself on this topic. Talk to your eye doctor. Ask questions. Get a proper diagnosis. It is NOT just an inevitable condition of aging, as I mistakenly thought after experiencing increased discomfort while wearing my soft contact lenses, crustiness around my eyes upon waking on some mornings or shedding tears while jogging in the cold air. Sound familiar to you? Those are not little annoyances you can ignore. Take charge of your eye health. The author cites numerous examples of patients coming to see him complain about dry eyes, including a 27-year old male student and a male Wall Street trader, both of whom have to read or look at screens a lot. It is not confined to the middle-aged female population. And some of its causes which are clearly explained in the book may surprise you.
An excellent examination of the causes and treatments for dry eyes, a condition that can be severe and significantly affect quality of life. Although much of this was information I already knew, that information came from untold hours of reading and research. Here, you have it all in one place. And I was still able to learn some new things. The only downside of this book is that it was published in 2007, and there have been some advancements since then. Still, an excellent read that I would recommend to anyone suffering from dry eyes, or really anyone who cares about the health of their eyes.
Pretty good over all view of the issues, and how your eyes work. I liked that he included a bunch of current research and his opinions about it, though I wish there'd been a bit more about things like small corneal tears, corneal erosion, and what remedies he suggests for those. Worth reading if you have dry eyes, though; a lot of material I didn't know about.
Anyone with dry eyes will benefit from the content in this valuable and easy to read book. Many of us don't even realize that we suffer from "dry eye syndrome". The condition is one which may impact vision, and may prevent procedures such as cataract removal. Dry eyes may mean that recovery from eye surgery does not go well. At the time of this review, there is NO CURE for Dry Eye Syndrome. However, the book offers multiple ways to help alleviate the problem, possibly preventing further (possibly irreparable) damage to the eyes. If you find yourself rubbing your eyes, if your eyelashes are falling out or thinning, or if your sight has become blurry, you'll want to read this book for the valuable information contained. Although this may not be the "complete guide..." as stated in the title, it certainly IS very comprehensive and written for the lay person. (Not much in the way of complicated medical verbiage.) Although I first got my copy at the local library, you may want to invest in a copy for yourself as the book contains forms that you may want to fill in and keep to track your eye heath and healing. Without providing spoilers, I will say that I have invested in a good room-sized humidifier, and in some quality eye masks; one for sleeping and one for heating my eyes twice daily. I've also now had my blood spun into personalized "serum tears" that are beyond anything on the market.... Buy the book.
Perhaps it was written in 2007 and I am reading it in 2025, but not all of the information here is accurate. I am reviewing this as a Eyecare professional. For example, his description of homeopathy is inaccurate. Also recommend recommending hot compresses to be applied for three minutes or standing under a hot shower to help unclog meibomian glands. Research has shown that this is not hot or long enough to cause changes in the meibum to be liquified. What the author does well is his coverage in many different methods of treatment for the dry eye disease. Still a worthwhile read for the average layman.
I will definitely be sharing this one with family, friends, & clients/patients as we ALL age with our hormone levels changing increasing the dry eye problem. 🤷🏻♀️
Excellent resource for the dry eye sufferer, written in an easy, conversational style that doesn't use alot of technical jargon. The author is an ophthamologist who specializes in dry eye disorders and is obviously very knowledgeable. He goes into the many different causes of the disorder as well as things one can do to help manage it.
