Abby’s long-awaited visit to Southeast Asia is meant to be a happy reunion with her son, Ryan, who works for the State Department—or so she thought. Ryan is hiding things, and the cracks of a perfect getaway start to show.
But when a routine meeting with a colleague spirals out of control, Abby is thrust into a world of shadowy espionage and reunited with a figure from her past. She realizes this trip isn’t just a holiday—it’s a deadly trap.
In a world where everything is rotten to the core, can Abby uncover the truth before it’s too late?

A very different Abby Kane thriller – and an excellent story. Abby is making a trip to Thailand where son Ryan is laying on a holiday based in a northern city – Chang Rai, and they are to spend time together enjoying each other’s company. And so, Abby has some fun, but there is something not quite right, and doubts about Ryan raise suspicions in her mind and then the proverbial hits the fan. Abby is tempted to investigate suspicious actions she notices but struggles with herself and her relationship with Ryan. Eventually she becomes involved in following up on her suspicions and the story takes off in a totally different direction to the normal Abby Kane thrillers, and she becomes involved with some very shady characters including a character from a previous San Francisco case. This is an easy-to-read story that entertains with a lot of soul searching on Abby’s part and many twists and turns keeping the reader guessing.
I actually know a couple of people that went to Thailand the past year or two, it having become quite an attractive tourist destination. Yet there is another side to the country as well. A hidden side your average traveler won't see or experience. One that corresponds with why this country was previously so rarely visited by the Westerners. Strangely enough, that is the side that Abby Kane did not expect to experience when visiting her son Ryan. Not in how much danger she would end up in. Author Ty Hutchinson in Rotten Gold succeeded in catching me totally unprepared for the shenanigans and mayhem this whole trip of Abby would end up in. No supportive and smart investigations. No superior reasonings of logic to catch scoundrels and/ or law breakers. Mostly just pure survival and lethal surprises that makes your inners cramp in sympathy of Abby. Enjoy.
Rotten Gold Ty Hutchinson WOW. I think this one has to be my absolute favorite. Abby finally gets to vacation with Ryan. I has been a couple years since they’ve seen each other except for calls. So she’s off to Thailand spending time in a 5 star hotel and visiting some interesting places and eating some great food.
Abby believes Ryan is CIA. Of course he can’t talked about it or confirm that he is. Another FBI agent asked Kang to have Abby deliver a package to an agent in Thailand at a coffee shop. It seems that things start going awry and Abby isn’t really sure what’s going on. Cant say more without giving away the story. Great read!!!!!

It was so good to see Ryan again. This time in a much bigger role. I loved how the stories intertwined. And I was so glad Abby got to take a vacation, until it wasn't a vacation anymore. Nothing like bad guys to ruin a perfectly good vacation. The twists and turns Hutchinson takes you on will keep you guessing until the end.
