Not a prepper but this book is awesome!

Want to finally understand the difference between pickling and fermenting? You’ll find out in the first chapter of this book. It includes the history of fermentation on food preparation, processing and storage as well as the different regional variations and applications. If you read nothing more than chapter one, which also includes the potential health benefits, this book will be invaluable.

Author, Sophie Magnant, devotes 4 chapters to pickling and 4 to fermenting. She includes proper techniques, variations, which foods are best suited to each style, potential problems, solutions, how to prepare, equipment and so much more.

Following the technical principles are approximately 100 recipes. They are well written and easy to follow. If you set up in advance with the basic ingredients needed to preserve your foods, the pickling/fermenting process will be easy-peasy. Recipes include interesting things beyond a wide variety of pickles: many forms of kefir, sourdough, GF and regular plus beginning your own starter, kombucha, chutneys, salsas and on and on. I’m ready to pickle my entire pantry!

Included in the Kindle edition is an alphabetical recipe index that is interactive and it works well. Magnant also provided a few references that are also interactive for those interested in more information.

Fermented and pickled foods are good for us; good for our gut biome and this book is a good addition to your cookbook library📚

Another way to preserve food

I am becoming interested in preserving food and pickling/fermenting is something I am not all that familiar with. This book does a good job explaining what pickling and fermenting are and how you do them. This includes a run down of the materials and equipment you will need. Then we get into the recipes. Each recipe has a clearly designated ingredient list. There are also numbered step by step directions that are written well and easy to follow.
