A painter with a mystical talent. An adventurer with a lifelong quest. Can they survive a brush with danger and find the love they lost in their youth?
Amelie pretends she's content with her small business outside New Orleans. But despite her magical ability to create paintings anyone can travel through, she yearns for the love that never was. So when the boy she rescued as a child by sending him through her canvas returns as a handsome man in need of her aid, the aimless artist is startled by a flood of unexpected emotions.
Rav’s quest feels never-ending. Having escaped an abusive father through the hidden world Amelie opened for him, he’s dedicated his life to fulfilling his mother’s deathbed request. A request that has taken him across the globe, searching for an enchanted treasure. But when the object he's seeking eludes him, he returns to the painter who saved him as a child… and discovers she's all grown up.
Agreeing to paint the landscape to complete Rav's epic journey breathes new life into Amelie's world. But when the stakes are raised, Rav must answer the ultimate question: which treasure is more precious?
Sky Over Mountain and Memory is the adventure-filled first book in the Enchanted Elements fantasy romance series. If you like childhood friends to lovers, low steam slow burn romances, and dangerous mystical quests, then you’ll adore JB Lassalle’s exciting new world.
Jen Lassalle is a writer of paranormal women's fiction and midlife fantasy fiction under the pen name JB Lassalle. She likes strong females who are more than just a bit awkward, dimensional males who roll with the punches, and found family friendships that triumph over nuanced bad guys you love to hate.
Jen is a New Orleans resident. The city, and the surrounding areas, serve as a rich backdrop for a world where magic exists and mystical creatures are not only real, but live among us.
When Jen isn’t writing, she’s hanging with her family and friends at a local park or coffee shop. She likes working out, which is kind of weird, loves yoga, and plays video games. Of course, she reads.
Jen and her husband have two kids. One is an avid competitive swimmer (which sucks up all their weekend time). The other is a daydreamer like Jen who plays the Mega Man theme on his guitar and binge watches Stranger Things.
I found this to be an interesting story with an intriguing magic system.
The writing was a bit iffy when I started reading, and I honestly didn't have very high expectations right out of the gate. I know I'm picky, but the first sentence starts with "Amelie swiped sweat out of her eyes with the back of one hand." Why do we need to specify it was one hand? We don't get to know what she's doing with the other hand, so there's really no need to specify the quantity of hands doing the wiping.
Anyways, you're kind of thrust right into the middle of things and have to figure out the vagaries, but eventually it comes together. The romance fell kind of flat, but the friendships were heartwarming, and I wouldn't mind reading the next one.
The first intro short story was better. The underlying story has so much potential and I like the concept of the four books a different couple’s story. But this one is just mostly good with some mehs and some eye rolls.
‘The lore of the coins is true’ And so are modern-day pirates. I won’t give away anything, so you’ll need to pick up a copy to see for yourself. We return back to New Orleans and the world of Illusion square with some characters from the prequel as well as a few additions. There is definitely more action and drama in this book.
Next in the series are ‘Bay Between Heart and Home’ then ‘Embers in Bloom and Blaze’ (expected in Jan).
Review: Root of Time and Treasure (prequel) A coffee house that offers housemade craft beer next to an establishment selling organic toiletries DOES sound like an adventure. Where do I sign up? An interesting time-loop / crime thriller / romance with a slight introduction to the main characters of ‘SOMAM’.
I enjoyed this book even more than the first book! The story keeps unraveling to reveal the bond of friendships between exceptional characters and despicable villains and mysteries to solve, questions to be answered. Dive in and enjoy this series!
There are still so many unknowns but each story we learn a little more. The women in this story are strong. They are stronger than they believe and I can’t wait to see what we learn next. Loved it
