3 Stars. I don't know why some have an aversion to short stories, rather than novels. Yes it is true that character development becomes a secondary aspect of the venture, falling behind plot and concise writing. It's a pithy story which rules - with a surprise ending if at all possible. I've done reviews of each of the four stories in this collection separately, but they are a good flavour of Christie and Marple. In all Christie has twenty out there for avid Miss M readers. "The Case of the Perfect Maid" has been growing in my estimation recently as it speaks to the public desire to see no evil in some instances even when a situation appears to be too good to be true. And talking about perfect, isn't Joan Hickson's voice the right one for the role? Apparently HM the Queen thought so too. (March 2021)

Pleased to have Joan Hickson narrating 2 of the stories so far. Easy to picture her as the Miss Marple of the BBC tv series she portrayed, which adds to the enjoyment of listening!

The stories are from 'Three Blind Mice and Other Stories' by the inimitable, Agatha Christie. Having been read so long ago, they're like new to me once again.

The Tape Measure Murder, Strange Jest, The Case of the Perfect Maid, and The Case of the Caretaker are included. Listened to Strange Jest and The Case of the Caretaker Aug.29.13

I finally had my car back with it's double audio feature, so I was able to listen to the final 2 audios - The Case of the Perfect Maid and The Tape Measure Murder. Excellent deducing, Miss Marple! And creative thinking, Ms Christie!
Listening to audiobooks? No hardship there!
Really enjoy stories read by capable narrators. And with the authentic British accent in addition to ability to personalize characters, Joan Hickson was the charm...
Perfectly coincided with Audiobook month - a bit of impetus to get it out to the car and finish it up!
Glad I did.

Agatha Christie is the best crime writer in my opinion. She does have certain basic tricks she uses in all her books but if you like one, you'll most likely like all the others. Not to mention, she writes decently and her books are good entertainment and perfect to kill time when you have nothing else to do.

"Agatha Christie was the greatest exponent of the classical detective story. Her unique literary talents have crossed every boundary of age, race, class, geography and education. While she refined the template for a fictional form, the reading of her books became an international pastime." John Curran

I started reading and collecting Agatha Christie books when I was 9 years old. I adored her books and still do. There is a great comfort, as an adult, in reading her books and acute observations of people that favours style over the penny horrors of sadism, torture, and graphic violence favoured by some authors.
