I didn’t quite enjoy this book as much as the first one, some of the romance aspects really annoyed me. I know the characters are young but things got really cringe worthy at some points and had me just rolling my eyes and shaking my head. But I did enjoy it for the most part, especially learning more about the different abilities. That’s really what saved this story for me, I find the different abilities and how they differ for everyone incredibly interesting and I wanted to know more!

WOW! This was a great piece! I liked it better than the first, though that might be because I was more familiar with the characters. Tamara has done a fantastic job bringing these kids to life( pun intended). The story moves along but continues to get darker and intense. The further information about the parents and families just adds to a colorful background of all the characters. I also have to say again I loved Onyx's dialog and perspectives( his dog). I already downloaded the third book and plan to start it later today!

Again we begin with Caleb, his high school now believes that all the unusual events of the past year are over. Unfortunately that's not true. There is still a serial killer on the loose . Especially when he's targeting children. Caleb wants to find the killer so he's agreed to aid in the investigation with the police. The killer now notices Caleb. and he becomes a target. Although Caleb still has to deal with the bullies Carson and Brett, this is nothing compared to the killer at large. these bullies are always present ,Caleb and his little group of friends try to avoid them at all cost. Also the Graysheets (government) are always following them to record there every move. Poor Caleb and Jade are struggling to stay together. Jades family are trying to push them apart. One day Caleb and his group went to discuss how they can catch the killer in there secret hiding place. when Brett and Carson showed up to make trouble. Little did they know that the Graysheets would also show up. They all tried to get away, when another paranormal came to there aid. Shocked but grateful they all got away.
Will this little group be able to solve the mystery serial killer? I highly recommend this series there is always adventure a little romance and is very well written .

This took me awhile to get into but when I did i really enjoyed it. I like Cletus but I feel there's more to him then it seems. It seems weird that whenever Caleb is in trouble he comes without being summoned. I loved the Indians both times and although it was supposed to be a gross and upsetting scene all the banter around the slashed arm was funny. I can't wait to get more info on the talents and what will happen next.

In the second book of the Death series Tamara does an excellent job of building on the foundation she set in Death Whispers. The relationships between Caleb's group of friends felt straight out of the halls of my high school, but at the same time there was a marked difference between how the characters were in the "Whispers" verses "Speak." They had noticeably grown from one book to the next and that was truly refreshing. To often characters stagnate or grow without actually changing, but I could really see the growth in this case.

Additionally, now that the background was in place there was room for a lot of solid character development to take place. The development of Caleb's power and his evolving relationship with "his" zombies was by far my favorite part. Just when I thought I'd seen everything I could out of his power some knew aspect popped up. It left me constantly wondering what it was going to do next and how it would shake things up.

If Death Speaks has any short comings it's that the secondary threads are so strong they occasionally overpowered the main story arc. When I read the back cover I was expecting a "catch the killer" centered story, and in a way I got it. However, I found myself caring more about what was going on in Caleb's life than if they ever caught the killer.

This is not a cut and dry this is the objective, work to the objective, reach the objective book. It's a complex work of art in which the author is constantly weaving together dozens of different elements in a half dozen arks that deftly mimic real life.

All in all, buy the first book, read it, and then once you're all caught up buy Death Speaks.

Death Speaks is the second book in the Death Series by Tamara Rose Blodgett. The story continues to follow Caleb and his group of friends with their special powers. The group of friends (minus Jonesy) have moved on to the Paranormal Highschool and are getting some instruction on their various abilities. In Caleb's case however it is not really helping since he is only the second person to ever have level 5 AFTD (affinity for the dead). Carson and Brett are back to their old game of being being jerks with Jade and Caleb's relationship being a serious issue.

The story develops nicely in this sequel, building on the first book while still leaving some questions to be answered in the future. I really like how the kids are slowly learning how to use their powers and we are gradually shown what potential each one of them has. Caleb brings some new zombies into play in this and some of them are entertaining in their own way. This story also has a bit of a thriller/mystery aspect that is done very well. The true culprit is hidden until the shocking revelation of the true bad guy. I am fully invested in this series now and will be following it until the end for certain. I will also most likely be looking into other works by Tamara to see if her other stuff lives up to the standards set by this series.

So, I read this book awhile ago, but forgot to write a review. Here goes!

*ahem* HOLY CRAP THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING. The action, adventure, and suspense was awesome. I was always guessing who the murder might be. I had a list that had five people, then four, three, and finally two. I couldn't narrow it down any further though (in case you're wondering, the murder was one of the two people on my list).

The characters were outstanding. Mrs. Blodgett did an amazing job capturing the teenage lifestyle. Everything that the kids in the book did, was something that I would have done at their age. In Whispers, I would've done that stuff when I was 14. Same with Speaks. When I was 15, I would've reacted the same way that they did. I can't wait to see how they act in Screams, when they're 16, and then in book four when they're 17, just like I almost am!

This book is one of the best books ever. Period. I would recommend it to anyone. I would even say that if there were some people who wanted to know what teenagers are like, and how they think, then read this book. Unless you're my parents, of course. Then they would figure out some of my secrets! :P

Blodgett is an amazing writer. I have had the pleasure of reading three of her novels, and I’ve enjoyed every single one of them, but I really think Death Speaks takes the cake. Not only is the cover absolutely amazing, but the story line itself is so original and intriguing that it glues the reader to the pages from the very first line. I fell in love with the characters in Death Whispers, and Blodgett intensifies that love in this sequel, adding some spicy relationships, a chilling murder investigation, and laugh out loud situations and dialogue...

Death Speaks is a unique and intriguing concept that holds you riveted till the end with awesome humor to boot. Tamara Rose Blodgett has completely captured the high schooler’s characteristics and language which deepens your sense of really being a part of the story even though their world is one of paranormal power and government intervention. I felt a personal connection for the characters and their plight. Death Speaks was another FANTASTIC, young teen friendly, edition to the Death series!!!

Once again I can say that I truly enjoyed Tamara’s work.
The see the gang mature and come into their own makes the story personal and familiar.

Regardless of it being a much known subject the approach is new, not only that but one creates a tie with the characters.

I will stick to the series to the end. On a ending note I need to say it, Clyde is the shit he is awesome!!!

I couldn't finish this book. I really liked the first half of the first book but it just got too corny. If I was 13, I might have appreciated it more. I just couldn't take the cringey dialogue or the teen romance seriously.

Caleb and all his friends are now all high school students and all but Jonesy is going to Kent Paranormal High. Caleb, Jade, Tiff, and all their friends are all learning more about their abilities and how to use them. Jade is still having problems with her dad trying to be a part of her life. Yeah right all he wants to do is put his fist in her face. I love how they all get along and the things they say to each other. They are just cutting up and playing with one another but sometimes they are serious or at least I think Tiff is more serious than the others. Tiff is a very straight up person she will tell you like it is.

I love it when one of the guys says a cuss word and one of the parents will call their name and say language and whoever it is that said the cuss word just kind of mumbles sorry. This would have me laughing and sometimes I would be hurting. Gramps is the kind of person that you just can't help but love. I loved how everything that Gramps did was ok because he was "grandfathered" in or something like that. I mean all the things that he could do and get by with when no one else could. Gramps is a real cool dude for an older guy. He would tell anyone how it was and he wasn't scared of anyone or anything.

Caleb and Tiff decide to help Garcia with his murder investigation. They want to help find whoever it is that is killing the kids. Caleb thought since he had an Affinity for the Dead he should use to help people otherwise it was useless. Working with the police was a way for them to use it and help people at the same time. He thought it was cool as hell that he could rise zombies out of their graves and get them to do what he wanted but he wanted to do more.

Brett is still giving Jade a hard time stalking her and trying to push himself on her. Brett wants Jade for his girlfriend but Jade likes Caleb. Jade knows she probably needs to tell Brett to get lost but she is just not the type of person to be mean to someone especially when they haven't really did anything to hurt her. Caleb doesn't like Brett following his girl around and gets pissed when Jade fails to tell him about Brett. Brett just wants what he can't have and to be the one in control. He wants to be the bad guy and everyone fall down on their knees and worship him. Brett and Carson have learned that Caleb and his friends are stronger than they were last year so Brett and Carson have gotten reinforcement on their side. They have obtained more friends with abilities like theirs. You know I really don't like the way Brett, Carson and their friends act. I don't like the way they treat people like they are a rug that they wipe their feet on. But I think I understand why Brett acts and does what he does which doesn't give him a reason or excuse to do what he does. I just mean he has had a hard life his dad abusing him and his older brother being killed a few years back. He is probably just angry at the whole world. Like I said it doesn't give him an ok or an out other people have gone through the same thing or very similar. Jade's dad had beaten her up a lot and she doesn't have a mean bone in her little body.

I liked how the guys would like describe girls or their weight they would say she is like a buck five. I have never heard this and thought it was funny. I just love how these kids was so happy and fun loving with the greysheets after them and also with all the kids that was getting killed. They could put it all in the back of their minds and get on with their lives I mean they couldn't change any of it so why let it mess up their lives. These are all cool kids.

I am really enjoying reading the Death series and I plan on reading every book in the series. Tamara Rose Blodgett is a great writer and I also intend to read more work than just the Death series. I love zombies and the Death series is a nice change to other zombies like The Walking Dead kind of zombies. Oh don't get me wrong I totally love The Walking Dead and will not miss an episode for nothing or no one. But you know change is refreshing sometimes.

I loved the first book in the series, but this sequel is even better! The author has certainly raised the stakes for Caleb and his friends in Death Speaks. Picking up right before Caleb enters Kent Paranormal High School, Death Speaks brings back old rivals who have it out for Caleb and his group of friends and the police officially hire Caleb and Tiff to help them solve the murders of several children. Both of these situations put Caleb in a heap of danger, so there’s no shortage of excitement or action. But I wouldn’t expect anything less!

Caleb actually gets to put his Affinity for the Dead (AFTD) abilities to use in Death Speaks. He’s not exactly impressed by his AFTD class, especially since it’s clear that his abilities go far beyond what the teacher can teach him. However, helping the police gives Caleb a sense of purpose and he can see his ability as being useful rather than dangerous (and epically awesome!). The murder mystery plot does give a darker tone to this installment, but I quite enjoyed it. I liked seeing all of the pieces come together and observe how Caleb was developing and honing in his ability. There are quite a few surprises along the way, too.

However, much of the focus was on Caleb and his friends. They’re growing up, but they’re just as close as ever. They’ve even adopted a new guy named Alex who is also a paranormal. I really enjoyed seeing Caleb’s relationship with Jade grow. It’s pretty uncomplicated, but it was funny to see him stress over what to get her for her birthday. He even has some alpha male moments when a rival is hitting on Jade, which of course end badly, as he’s a 14 year old boy who can raise the dead.

My favorite part was, of course, the zombies! Particularly Clyde and Onyx. I adored getting more bits from Onyx’s doggy brain. He is so smart and loyal, and was a fun form of foreshadowing. Heavy foreshadowing normally gets on my nerves, but using Onyx’s POV was interesting and clever, since dogs often notice things that their owners do not. Clyde pops up a few times throughout, and he’s changed quite a bit since Death Whispers. I don’t want to give anything away, but his bond with Caleb is certainly something special and I can’t wait until it’s explored more.

Basically, Death Speaks is great! The pacing is spot on, and the world continues to expand. It’s funny, action packed, and fully engaging. While the ending wasn’t a cliffhanger at all, it still has this sense of uncertainly when it comes to Caleb and his future involvement with the government. I’m also dying to know more about Jeffery Parker!

This series must be read in order. The first book is Death Whispers (The Death Series). This is the second book. Thankfully the author did not alter it as much as she did the first book in the series and there are only a few cringe worthy moments where she tries to insert out world into her previously perfect distopian future book world :)

This book picks up pretty much where the last one let off with the group of paranormals (and a couple of norms) finding their niche as a group of young adults with awesome powers. Caleb has been taking the summer off from corpse raising and it has been pretty uneventful even if it has been a lot of fun. That all changes when Caleb and Tiff agree to help find the serial killer that they discovered by accident on Friday the Thirteenth...

All sorts of chaos ensues as they start high school and try to help the police figure out who is killing kids their age. No one knows how the victims are chosen or why they were killed. The group expands and more issues with the usual suspects arise. The only real issue I found was Brett was somehow in the highschool with them and he is supposed to be a mundane and they don't mix education wise. Otherwise it is an awesome second book to the series!

This series is not for the squeamish as some of the violence and zombie related stuff is quite graphic. The main story would be teen friendly for the most part otherwise. I really love this series... even altered... and can't wait to reread the prequel Death Inception (The Death Series) which is now considered the third book.

Yep, this book is definitely even more amazing than the first of this series! Just finished it & am onto the 3rd book, which, for some reason, I thought was the last of the series. Very happy to find out there are more books after the 3rd! Loving this author's writing. I read for entertainment & this series is very entertaining. I could always do with less sexual innuendo, but hey, teens & hormones... Enough said. The 2nd book of this series ramps things up. As the kids are getting older, they are getting more powerful & more emotional. I like how bits & pieces are tossed out about the 'grandfathered' things & the laws now. It's not overdone, just here & there. This one has more horror in it & blood & guts. Not too much, just enough to make the story thrilling. I hoping there's a good reason why we keep on 'hearing' the dog's thoughts. Loving Clyde & Gramps. Loving the way the parents interact with their kids. Loving the banter between the kids. Highly recommend this series to paranormal fans! Onto the next!
