Ring around a rosie ... Leah desperately flees her past as a member of a gang and takes up youth work at a church in inner city Phoenix, Arizona. But when a coworker disappears and her brother dies of mysterious causes, Leah finds herself searching for answers in her past. More lives are claimed, and each victim sports classic signs of a deadly virus - an aggressive form of yersinia pestis, otherwise known as the Bubonic Plague. Leah panics as she realizes that each victim is linked to her past and a nursery rhyme with a dark history. In spite of the danger, Leah must confront the one person she fears most and unravel the mysterious rhyme in order to save her life and the lives of those she loves most.
Ashes, Ashes is the third book in the Shadows in the Nursery series by bestselling mystery and suspense writer and Christian author, Tamara Shoemaker. Her protagonists face the harsh realities of a dark world as they struggle with issues of faith, trust and forgiveness. But betrayal, secrets and evil surface in unlikely places; and tidy resolutions may not be realistic for these tortured souls.
Tamara Shoemaker has a gift for creating twisted plots that also speak to the heart of the human condition, trust and redemption.
Tamara Shoemaker authored the Amazon best-selling Shadows in the Nursery Christian mystery series and Soul Survivor, another Christian mystery. Her fantasy books include the Heart of a Dragon trilogy: Kindle the Flame, Embrace the Fire, and Unleash the Inferno, as well her Guardian of the Vale trilogy: Mark of Four, Shadows of Uprising, and Guardian of the Vale. In her spare time, she freelances as an editor for other works of fiction, chases three children hither and yon, and tries hard to ignore the brownie mixes that inevitably show up in her cabinets.
I've read all of Shoemaker's published work, and this is my favorite so far. An intense, fast-paced novel that's full of surprising twists and turns. The storyline contained an interesting mix of church ministry and murderous duplicity. As a person who has been involved in church leadership for years, this wasn't exactly a comfortable read. Not that "comfort" is a requirement for good fiction. :-) Can I just say (and I don't think this is a spoiler)... thank you, Tamara Shoemaker for being a believer in happy endings. Happy endings make the world a better place. Looking forward to your next series!
If you loved her before you'll love her again. Tamara Shoemaker spins a great suspense novel with Ashes, Ashes and you will not be disappointed. Once you pick this book up it is hard to put down! The tale of Leah and her story of redemption keeps the pages moving well into the night. It is a great Christian novel with a message behind the mystery. And just when you think you've got things figured out, bam! It turns out you were all wrong. I strongly recommend you pick this book up and start reading it as soon as you can!
Another page-turning thriller by Shoemaker. This is the third book in the Shadows in the Nursery series.
Shoemaker is a Christian author who knows how to write a clean, but keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat thriller. Shoemaker is notable for adding twists and turns that come together in the conclusion, therefore, read carefully. Every event and detail weaves a web that becomes together beautifully at the end.
Another great Shoemaker read! She gives great insight into how much someone's choices and external devices affect a character's outcome while dealing with life's difficulties. Her story development is interesting regarding the way Christ is woven into the story without making Him obvious. Several twists and turns keep you guessing who will come out of an ex-gang member's story in a good light... or maybe not at all. Looking forward to the next Shoemaker adventure!
I felt this was a very interesting book. Having read the previous books in this series, this one was certainly the most interesting to me. It held my attention, and the drama built throughout the book. I would certainly recommend that if you enjoy thrillers or dramas, this one would be a good choice.
Had I known that this book had religious overtones I would not have started reading it. For the most part is was a standard type of "thriller" but I just couldn't develop any real sympathy for the main characters. As a result this was OK but I just wanted to "get it over with" by half way through.
