It's Our Turn

Rate this book
It's Our Turn is Book 3 in the Underwood Farms series, but can be read as a standalone. It is a brother's best friend, small town romance.

Lucy Bowen, Thundersville’s sweetheart, returns home after being away at college for the last four years and is ready to open her dream bakery right on Main Street. Lucy’s family has always been her biggest support system, and everyone offers to help her get the bakery up and running, including her older brother’s best friend, Cam.

Cam Ellington, Thundersville’s resident playboy, has a reputation for never wanting to settle down. Despite Lucy’s attempts, she’s never been able to get over her long-standing crush on Cam. His persistent presence during the bakery renovations makes it impossible for her to move on.

As Lucy and Cam spend more time together, sparks fly and feelings change, blurring the lines between friendship and something more. Once he has her, he doesn’t think he’ll be able to let her go. That scares him more than anything.

Cam’s loyalty to his best friend hangs in the balance, forcing them to confront the prospect of risking everything for love in a town where family and friends are everything.

“Lucy.
My Lucy.”

“Cam.
My Cam.”

The parallelism in this story is unmatched. I’ve never been huge on the “brother’s best friend” trope, but this was genuinely done so well that I was waiting for Landon to burst in at any minute.

The first two books left me with a real distaste for Cam, but as I learned more about his backstory I actually preferred the chapters written from his perspective. I loved that he was so relatable with such a complex family life and that, even during the slow burn and denial of their feelings, both he and Lucy were so patient with each other. I loved that Lucy had her bakery storyline, and was consistently more than the “little sister” or the girl who was off-limits- there was so much more to her than Cam, who only added to her story.

The found family trope in this was manipulated so creatively and successfully, and the sense of closure I felt as the book neared its end was perfect.

Kile’s writing, as always, is the perfect mixture of sugar and spice- the ideal recipe for a cosy afternoon read!

Thank you so much to DC Kile and Sunnybabe PR for this ARC opportunity, as well as the others in Underwood Farms. I’m genuinely sad to see this one end.

This was a very spicy read, with Lucy & Cam, her brother’s best friend, both of them fighting all feelings and desires, slow irresistable burn. I loved the small town, close knit family feel of the read with Underwood Farms, and it def had me laughing at moments. I loved the development of the whole story complete to the end, I read this in one sitting!

YALL IM SO MAD

There are no more books in this series??? NO IM NOT OKAY

If you haven’t read this series GO DO IT NOW

The whole series just feels like a warm hug - it’s summer vibes but it’s so cozy and I love it

As for just this book:

Lucy is a ball of sunshine and she’s so motivated and wonderful and deserves the world. And CAM🥵 he’s adorable! I mean the player falling in love is a trope I LOVE - when book men go soft for their girl🥹🥹🥹

And the cameos from the previous books’ characters gave me flashbacks and omg I missed them so much

I had to slow myself down so it wouldn’t end because I didn’t want it to be over

Hey DC Kile if you’re reading this for any reason at all please write more about the Thundersville peeps, maybe like Marren’s or the boys’ friends’ stories?❤️

Edit because I forgot to say thanks to the author and Sunny Babe PR for the ARC in exchange for a review!

Thank you to Sunny Babe PR for the ARC.

-Despite not having read the first two books of this series, I was still so invested in this book. I liked the aspect of the fixer-upper for Lucy with her bakery along side of the romantic plot line. All along, the book really kept me entertained and I was kicking my feet feeling so giddy about the romance.

-The characters were really sweet together, although sometimes I was kind of weirded out because their brotherly and sisterly relationship kept being brought up so I wished that it wasn’t mentioned as much. Additionally, I felt like Lucy and Cam’s relationship was more lustful than anything, at least from Cam’s perspective because when he spoke of her, he most often mentioned her looks and body but it was better towards the end. Other than that, the characters were cute together and individually.

-Once again, the ending was quite a typical romance book ending. However, I didn’t particularly like the epilogue. I find Lucy and Cam really cute together but I feel like the pregnancy was a bit of a surprise because the two haven’t been together for very long and Lucy is only 22. But then again, they were happy so good for them but it felt a bit rushed.

It’s Our Turn is book 3 in the underwood farms series. All books are interconnected standalone and this is Cam and Lucy’s book.

Our Fmc, Lucy “ Bug” has just graduated from business school and is in the process of opening her own bakery in her hometown. She’s had it bad for Cam, her older brothers best friend, and 8 years older than her, since she was younger. Cam has never seen her like that but now she’s all grown will he notice her NOW?!

Cam, the MMC , is Landon’s best friend. We met Landon in book 1. He has had a pretty rough home life and spent more and more time with Landon and his family than his own. Cam has sworn off relationships, and love for that matter…until Lucy… but they are hiding this relationship from Landon, how will he accept the relationship?

There are so many swoony things in this book and Cam has never really done relationships yet he was just the best book boyfriend and the spice in this one was on point … who doesn’t love a dirty talking cowboy .

I loved this one and if you like these tropes give it a read. Thank you to Sunny Babe Pr for this advanced copy.

This series has turned me into a cowboy romance enthusiast. I love, love, love Cam and Lucy. Brother's best friend is always so hot and fun.

What I truly enjoyed was the maturity of both characters. Cam the admitted bachelor and player who takes a chance on being with Lucy and being completely honest about his fears and boundaries.
Lucy understanding that there may not be a chance with him because her brother and him are besties. She works on putting herself first and tries to move on but of course fate says otherwise. Their open communication is what I wish for in real life. Their spice...my God...I need to open up a bakery and have a cowboy help me with building things.

I hope we get to see more from this town in future books but if not this series is so good. It tackles real life traumas, emotions, has all the real spicy spice, and a solid plots with strong FMC and MMC.

Thank you to D.C. Kile and SunnyBabePR for allowing me to read this ARC. The above review are my thoughts and opinions only.

I haven’t read brother’s bestfriend trope before and I think this may be the good introduction for me.I loved it! Lots of spice. IT’S SPICIN’ 🥵 🌶️The pacing of the book is just right. The pages were flying and I realized I am almost finished!

🧁 Cam- The first two books, we met Cam as a playboy, grumpy to Olivia, afraid to commit on a serious relationship. Wherein in this 3rd book, It’s good to see the other side of him, being soft hearted, being not afraid of relationships. He is just being a cinnamon roll hot farmer!

🍰Lucy- The sweetheart of the town. I love how dedicated she is on her business. Those baked goods made my mouth water! She brings the best out of Cam.
The family of Lucy and Landon is something that is just so sweet!

Overall, what a good story to wrap up the series. I love seing the whole characters from book 1&2. Truly a good way to end the trilogy!

*I received a free E-Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review* - Thank you @authordckile and @sunnybabepr!

It’s Our Turn is the third book in an interconnected series and I have not read the others but I will now! This was a great introduction to D.C. Kile for me and I’m looking forward to reading more of her books. I have to say, it felt like the dedication was written for me! The relationship between the main characters felt like it started with physical attraction but emotional intimacy seemed to grow as the story progressed, which I appreciated. I also love unique nicknames with special meanings or inside jokes!

If you like small town and brother's best friend, you should give It's Our Turn a try! Now if you will excuse me, I’m off to find some cupcakes ;)

Get excited for It's Our Turn, available June 27! 🎉

I have loved this series since the first one, and each installment has been great. The brother’s best friend is always a great trope as it’s also kind of forbidden love, given the nature of it. Cam is a playboy, and Lucy is fresh back from college. She’s always had a crush on Cam, but Cam has always looked at her like a little sister. But the way he looks at her begins to change. She has grown up.
If you liked the way Colin suddenly notices Penelope in Bridgerton, this is similar to that. One of them just kind of mentally grows up and sees what has been in front of them all along. Cam does think he can put his playboy tendencies aside until he realizes Lucy is the only one he would do that for.
It was really sweet watching the two fall in love— well Cam fall in love with Lucy. Lucy has been there LOL

Thank you Sunny Babe PR for the read!

Oh my gosh, Lucy and Cam's story is my favorite of this series. I loved them so much !
Couldn't get enough. The forbidden romance with the brothers best friend was just so good. Watching Cam go from being allergic to anything relationship wise, to only having eyes for one girl in town was so fun. His protectiveness and possessiveness was perfect.
The pacing of this story was smooth and quick. Almost too quick 😅 I was bummed when it came to an end because I just wanted more of them.
But overall i truly enjoyed this story. Enjoyed these characters in the series and their happy endings.

There is just something about a brothers best friend romance that hits different!!! The tension that it causes is elite!!!

The chemistry between Lucy and Cam was so enjoyable and I loved the comfort and support they provided to each other! I also loved the continued glimpses into the lives of the couples from the rest of the series, it was so wholesome seeing them all just hang out together and to see more about their relationships as a friendship group, I really loved the found family in this.

Cam and Lucy were so great together but also stood alone as great characters on their own, especially Cam whose backstory was really heartbreaking to read about but shines a great light into his actions.

Overall the book was such a fun and mostly wholesome read, however please note that it does contain some potentially triggering content such as the death of a parent so please be cautious and read the trigger warnings!

Thank you to SunnyBabePR for providing me with an eARC in return for an honest review.

I ate this book up, I can’t believe how easy to read it was!

I liked Lucy and Cam’s love story, my favorite thing about their relationship is that they never gave up on each other when it got hard and their connection is just special. I appreciate seeing Cam growing up and maturing and I absolutely loved how much Lucy had fun with the bakery. Bonus point for the friendships, they were so sweet.

Overall it was a cute and entertaining read.

What’s not to love about a good brothers best friend? This was fast paced, with sneaking around, found family, childhood crush/friends to lovers, and more. I loved that, while I haven’t read the first 2 in this series, I still felt the love and friendship between ALL the characters. If you like sweet romances with a few moments that make you tear up, you will eat this up. Oh, did I mention there’s also a bakery? Make sure to stock up on snacks. You’ll be hungry. 🤣❤️

I was so excited to get back to this series and Underwood Farms! I loved the first two books and all of the characters, and have been looking forward to Cam’s story. It definitely didn’t disappoint! This may be my favorite one. I love Cam and Lucy. He is introduced as being kind of a jerk in the first book, so it was fun to see other sides of him, especially the way he was with Lucy.
Lucy has always had a crush on Cam, he’s her older brother’s best friend. But he’s always seen her as a kid, until she moves back home after college to open her own bakery. Their chemistry is addicting, I literally didn’t put this book down from start to finish. I love that he knew what he wanted and put her first, even over his friendship, and who he considered family. Cam had a rough home life growing up, and spent most of his time with Lucy’s brother and at their house. It was also so much fun to revisit Landon and Olivia, and Benny and Serena. This is full of small town shenanigans and so much love, I couldn’t get enough of it!

The characters dynamics was to die for, the way each character has a special connection with another character is so melting, especially Lucy and Cam's relationship. 🎀✨ The way they both showed their love for one another, and didn't give up on each other at times when many couples do just made this book all the greatest <333

Sigh. Brothers best friend + Childhood crush to lovers + bakery and a farm hand. 🥵

Cam’s growth from playboy to best boyfriend ever is the trope we all love. And Lucy living her best life in her bakery.

This book was the 3rd in a series. Could be read standalone but I felt like I missed a lot not having read books 1&2.

Thank you @sunnybabepr for this opportunity. I ate it up.

Book Review: It's Our Turn: A Brother's Best Friend Romance by D.C. Kile
D.C. Kile's It's Our Turn is a delightful foray into the beloved trope of a brother’s best friend romance, set against the charming backdrop of a small town. As the third installment in the Underwood Farms series, it stands perfectly well on its own, welcoming new readers while offering familiar faces to series fans.

Characters and Chemistry:
Lucy Bowen is a refreshing protagonist, embodying the spirit of ambition and resilience. Returning to Thundersville after college to fulfill her dream of opening a bakery, Lucy's journey is both inspiring and relatable. Her passion for her craft and her unwavering determination to succeed create a strong and likable character.

Cam Ellington, on the other hand, is the quintessential small-town playboy with a heart of gold. His reputation precedes him, but as layers of his character are peeled back, we see a man grappling with his fear of commitment and his deep-seated loyalty to his best friend, Lucy’s brother. The chemistry between Lucy and Cam is palpable, making their evolving relationship engaging and heartfelt.

Plot and Pacing:
The plot progresses at a comfortable pace, with the bakery's renovation serving as the perfect catalyst for Lucy and Cam’s interactions. The small-town setting adds a layer of coziness and familiarity, enhancing the romance. Their journey from friends to lovers is filled with sweet, tender moments, and a fair share of tension and uncertainty. The stakes feel real, and the emotional depth adds a layer of authenticity to their relationship.

Themes and Conflicts:
One of the strongest aspects of It's Our Turn is its exploration of themes like loyalty, family, and personal growth. Cam’s internal struggle between his feelings for Lucy and his loyalty to her brother adds a compelling dynamic to the story. This conflict is navigated thoughtfully, highlighting the importance of honesty and communication in relationships.

Writing Style:
D.C. Kile’s writing is engaging and descriptive, painting vivid pictures of Thundersville and its inhabitants. The dialogue is natural and witty, making the interactions between characters enjoyable and realistic. The balance between romance, humor, and drama is well-maintained, ensuring a smooth and captivating read.

Conclusion:
It's Our Turn is a charming and heartwarming read that will appeal to fans of small-town romances and the brother’s best friend trope. D.C. Kile masterfully crafts a story that is both sweet and emotionally resonant, with characters that linger in your mind long after the last page is turned. Whether you’re a newcomer to the Underwood Farms series or a returning fan, this book promises a delightful escape into a world where love, family, and dreams come together in the most enchanting way.

SMALL SPOILERS AHEAD!!

Whilst part of the Underwood Farms series, which I have not read, this book works as a standalone as well. I was thoroughly invested in the book and the characters. I was kicking my feet and giggling throughout the whole book 🤭 This book does contain some trigger warnings including; severe sex scenes, themes of alcoholism, and the death of a parent.

Lucy Bowen, 22, has just graduated college with a degree in business and is back in Thundersville, her home town, to open a bakery. She has had a crush on Cam, her brother’s best friend, since she was a child. Cam has always seen her as his little sister, who he nicknamed Bug, but now she is all grown up and something changes for him… Cam, 30, is Landon’s (Lucy’s brother) best friend. Landon is introduced in book one, Out of Place. Cam hasn’t had an easy upbringing and the Bowen family became like a family to him. Cam has sworn off relationships, strictly one-night stands and hookups for him… Until Lucy comes back to town. But how will Landon take the idea of their relationship?

Cam and Lucy have a relationship that I would sell my left foot for 😩 The tension between Cam and Lucy is off the charts!!! Their interactions are laced with so much tension and the sparks were FLYING. The build of their relationship was perfectly paced and didn’t drag on unnecessarily.

Now let’s talk spicy scenes 👀 Good lord behave 😮‍💨 They were phenomenally written and D.C. Kile truly knows how to turn up the heat. The chemistry between Cam and Lucy is insane and how Cam talks not only to, but also about Lucy is something every girl dreams of 🥵 That man knows EXACTLY what he’s doing…

It's Our Turn is a must-read for anyone who loves intense, steamy romance with well-developed characters. D.C. Kile has done an amazing job, and I can't wait to pick up the first two books of the series!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Yet another D.C. Kile book that I absolutely loved!

I have yet to read the first book in this series but I will absolutely be going back to read it now. I read the second book as an arc as well and fell in love with the characters, as well as the story line of each.

****spoilers****

This book focuses on the story of Cam and Lucy, aka “bug.” Can has a very devastating upbringing with his parents separating, his mom abandoning him, and his dad becoming an alcoholic. As heartbreaking as this is for him Cam still continues to take care of his dad as best as he can. His dad spews nothing but lies about how no woman should be trusted and they all break your heart and while we as a reader know this is not true, Cam takes this to heart for most of his adult life. He sleeps around and never wants to get close enough to a woman to start a relationship…until he spends some time with Lucy. *Cam is best friends with Benny and Landon. Landon’s mom practically raised Cam after his parents separated.

Lucy is the towns innocent little girl… except she’s not so little anymore. She’s just returned from college and is set on opening her dream bakery. Lucy has always had a crush on Cam but well, that’s her brother’s best friend. He’s older, he sleeps around, and he’s always thought of her as his little sister. That is until he starts helping her remodel the building that will be her bakery. They spend a lot of time together and quickly develop feeling for each other. They understand each other in a way nobody else has.

Overall this is a very fast paced book. It’s adorable and has incredible spice!!!

This was a good conclusion to this series! I had been looking forward to this one since Cam was introduced at the beginning of the series. This one has a killer list of tropes and was such a quick and entertaining read! I finished it in one sitting!

I will be honest and say that (after BOOK 2 and the eliteness that was Benny Boy) maybe I had set the bar too high for Cam. I enjoyed his character but he just didn’t exceed my expectations like I thought he would. I honestly expected this to be spicer than it was considering how Cam’s playboy ways were so hyped up from the in books. He just wasn’t as smooth or as filthy as I thought he would be. ( NOT LIKE BENNY BOY FROM BOOK 2 THOUGH 🥵) Don’t get my wrong, this was still pretty freaking spicy but I was expecting just pure and utter from filth from Cam.

I still loved the story and loved the series with it’s whole crew of characters! It is definitely worth the read.

Lucy has just returned to her small hometown after finishing college. Lucy has set her sights on opening up her own bakery on Main Street! However, the only downfall about being back in town is that it is inevitable that she is going to run into her childhood crush, Cam, who is also her brother’s best friend. Lucy’s brother Landon & Cam have been best friends since they were 8 when the Bowen family took Cam under their wings when his mother left his father & his father let himself go. Landon & Cam work on the same farm & Cam attends family dinner every Sunday. Lucy knows Cam will never see her more than “a little sister” until Cam realizes how much Lucy has grown up & let’s himself see Lucy in a different light.

This was my absolute favorite in the Underwood Farms series!! The tropes featured in this one were amazing, the story line & plot was so intriguing, & the character development was outstanding! The spice was spicing in this one as well 🔥🌶️ Cam has a reputation for himself in town as being a playboy but Lucy reforms him & brings out such an emotional & sensitive side out of Cam! Lucy is just such a wholesome FMC & I cannot believe she’s only 22 because she feels so much older & mature throughout the book! Absolutely loved this one!!

Lucy has had a crush on Cam for as long as she can remember, but she has always just been “Bug” to him - the little sister to his best friend. His best friend who is extremely protective of his little sister. So why is Cam all of a sudden having a hard time keeping Lucy out of his mind? Maybe because she’s back from college, but he doesn’t remember her being so grown up, or looking that good. It must be because they spent so much time apart and these feelings will go away… or will they?

I think that this one might have been my favorite out of the three, IF I HAD TO PICK. But I’m a Why Choose girlie, so I’d rather not. This book again, like the other two, gave me all the feels. I was sad (and almost cried), I was happy and giddy, I was swooning, and I was eating up the spicy scenes. A brother’s best friend forbidden romance is always just so delicious! I also love the found family in this, more so than the others, because Cam deals with some intense family moments, and the way bad boy, playboy Cam becomes this sweet and amazing guy just has me in a puddle. Five stars because this is my favorite out of the three, but they’re all equally amazing and I will most likely be getting the shelf trophies of these because I cannot stop thinking about them. Get the whole series on KU if you want to check these out - I promise you will not regret it!

I loved every minute of this book! I signed up to read this book as an ARC through Sunny Babe PR. I was drawn in by the brother's best friend trope. But I've never been a huge fan of small town romances, and I wasn't thinking I was going to absolutely love it, and boy, was I wrong (and so glad that I was wrong)!

This story absolutely sucked me in. I was worried that I wouldn't understand what was happening since it was book 3 in the series, even though it was listed as a standalone. There was not a single time in this story that I was lost about what was happening. If you don't like spoilers for interconnected standalones, then maybe read them in order. Bur your comprehension of the story does not depend on reading the first two.

Cam has a reputation for being a ladies' man, and Lucy has always had a crush on him. Being that Cam is her older brother's best friend, he has always been off-limits, and she was always just the "kid sister." The tension that was weaved throughout the first 45% of the book had me devouring it in one sitting.

The absolutely healthy relationship that they created had me all in my feels. When she was there to support him towards the end, even with the bakery opening, I felt a little teary-eyed.

The only thing I wish for was that it was longer. I want more of Cam and Lucy. This was my first read by this author, but I'm sure it will not be the last.

Recently graduate from college, Lucy aspires to open a bakery in her hometown, with the help of her parents she was able to purchase one. But moving back to her hometown and opening a bakery brings in her childhood crush and her brother’s best friend, Cam. Cam works at the farm with his best friends, they all grew up together. He joins them at Sunday dinner, where he sees his brother’s little sister but she’s not so little anymore.

It’s Our turn is Book 3 in an interconnecting standalone in the Underwood Series but does not need to be read in order.

Review:
I just want to say this book was a quick easy read. It was exactly what I needed, a small town romance. I loved Lucy, she is a mfc that knew exactly what she wanted and went for it. Ashley for Cam well, we all love a reformed fuck boy don’t we?

It's Our Turn is the third book in the Underwood Farms series, but can be read as a stand-alone book. Tropes you will find: a brother's best friend and also a love story in a small town. Thundersville's sweetheart Lucy Bowen returns home after being in college for the past four years and is ready to open her dream bakery right on Main Street. Lucy's family has always been her biggest support, and everyone offers to help her get the bakery up and running, including her older brother's best friend, Cam. Cam Ellington, Thundersville's resident playboy, has a reputation for never wanting to settle down. Despite Lucy's attempts, she was never able to get over her longtime crush on Cam. Her persistent presence during the renovation of the bakery makes it impossible for her to move forward. I loved the fact that Lucy and Cam spend more time together, the more sparks fly and feelings gradually change making the line between friendship and something more that both of them are afraid to face for various reasons. But will he finally be able to have all to himself what will happen in his life and with his friendships? There are things that scare us more than others, first of all losing what makes us truly happy, truly ourselves and complete. How to move forward with their story when everything seems in the balance? Especially when we are in a city where family and friendship are the things that matter most? Now I'm going to catch up and read the first book. Rating 5💫
