Whispers from the Mirror

Rate this book
I want nothing to do with the magical world, but it has other plans for me. Danger lurks around every corner, and my life takes a drastic turn when my uncle's plan to protect me lands me inside a mystical lamp. But thanks to Demetri, a mysterious vampire, I'm rescued from my magical prison.

As Demetri and I navigate through a maze of ancient prophecies and formidable enemies, the absence of my uncle weighs on our minds. With the help of Ensley, a powerful Fae ally, we hatch a daring plan to aid those oppressed by the Bureau of Magic.

As we confront the challenges ahead, our connection deepens, forged in the fires of adversity. With every trial we overcome, we grow more certain of our path, determined to stand against injustice and bring hope to those in need. In a world teetering on the edge of chaos, our love and resilience will be our greatest weapons.

Djinn magic

A slow-build paranormal romance with great chemistry between the main characters, mystery, action, misunderstandings, a great twist, and a HEA. With a combination of werewolves, witches, vampires, genies, warlocks and a magical house, this is a great story of different paranormals working together.

Arien has tried to stay out of the magical world her whole life, only being in contact with her uncle, Sebastian, a djinn. He'd granted her three wishes for protection but after being injured again on set in her job as a martial arts stunt person he can't be found and she starts on a hunt for him.

Demetri is a vampire detective who's hired by Sebastian's ex-wife to find him as well, but when he first fails to enter the family mansion she suggests that they look to help Arien realise her djinn potential, but not everyone is as they first appear.

As Arien and Demetri begin to work together their relationship develops into something new. With a magical house and danger behind doors this was a fun read.

Arien is a stuntwoman and is good at it. But she also has a magical background. And she has always denied that magical background and never wanted it. Until her uncle disappears and her stepmother with a detective, Demetri. Demetri is a vampire and actually has a complicated assignment. He actually has to kill Arien, but he doesn't want to. their relationship deepens and yet the doubt remains. Is it really about her or her magical powers. This story takes you to a magical house, where anything is possible and where danger lurks behind every door. I found it very entertaining, the book was well paced and the characters were well described. Highly recommended.

Evil Witch Aunt

Oh wow, this story has a lot to unpack with vampires, evil witch that wants her nice out of the way, a lamp trap and danger all around. That's just the beginning of a wonderfully exciting and suspenseful adventure in reading. What is going on with Arien and Demetri? Can they escape the twists and turns set in their way and survive the outcome? Absolutely fabulous, I could not put it down.

Born into a world full of magic, Arien is determined to be as unmagical as she can. Unfortunately life does not always do what we want and when her uncle goes missing so does her protection. Demetri is a vampire who’s also a detective and he joins with Arien to try and locate her uncle and they have a magical adventure along the way. Brimming with twists and turns, romance, betrayal, suspense, good guys and of course baddies, this was a great read that eyelid my attention from start to finish. It’s a great fantasy read that I would definitely reread.

This book centres around Arien who has always tried to keep out of the magical world. All that changes when her uncle a djinn goes missing.
This means that Arien is drawn into the search for him.
The resulting chaos revolves around a magical house, the wicked witch and Demetri a vampire who all get involved in the hunt for her uncle.
I loved this book there was so much going on, plenty to keep you absorbed wanting to see what happens next.
The romance between Arien and Demetri is believable and you are rooting for them to succeed and get their HEA.

I thought the story was very well written, with a lot of detail.
I wish I owned the Mansion.
Although I personally think that this book could also fall under young adult, I still enjoyed reading this book.

This is the strongest book Loxley Cress has yet produced. The chemistry between the FMC Arien, a magical being who has refused her heritage, and the MMC Demetri, a mournful, morally grey but principled vampire, is palpable. The other two main characters, Arien’s powerful magician uncle and powerful witch aunt, now divorced, are quite fascinating, and it keeps you guessing, wondering which of them is more reliable, or whether they are both evil. The answer turns out to be - it’s complicated. The story of that failed marriage could make a book in itself. The uncle’s magical house is a character in its own right. I don’t want to say more for fear of spoiling the book for you. Go and read it for yourself.
