This book contains graphic s*x scenes, domestic abuse, and extreme violence.
Annalise's life hasn't gone the way anyone ever hopes. She has fallen into a destructive cycle of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse at the hands of her longtime boyfriend.
She continues spiraling until she meets Ditto.
The beautiful and vivacious Ditto awakens a side of her sexuality she didn't know existed.
Together, they go on a journey of self-discovery...
Asia Brito Guerrero is an eccentric, chaotic mess of a person who has written spooky stories all her life -- most of which are created from personal experience mixed together with a deranged imagination and unhinged ideas sparked from a lot of sleepless nights.
Asia currently lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her partners where they are raising many feral children together. She can usually be found on her couch watching Lord of the Rings (extended versions) on repeat with her laptop nearby, drinking too much iced coffee, and eating tacos for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
3.5 stars. There is some very rough sexual content in this book, right when it begins. Please be mindful of the content advisory ahead of the story. And I will also never look at bread ties the same again. Annalise, our lead, is an extremely tragic and damaged character, pulling out all the stops to make the reader feel total empathy for her. And the sad thing is that her particular traumas and situation are not unheard of, which is extremely upsetting. Now, I saw the plot twist coming from the very beginning, but that didn’t take away from the end result. Seeing someone who is so abused and troubled finally take charge of their lives is so empowering. And, despite the methodology that Annalise utilized, I was happy to see her come to terms with everything that was happening. Not necessarily the most picture-perfect conclusion, but it was a good finale for her character, nonetheless. So, I really enjoyed the experience, but it was all just a bit too abbreviated to have the full impact that I wanted. Ruben, Ditto, etc all needed some additional development and time to simmer with the reader. And there was plenty of content to work with to make everything feel more defined and explored. However, aside from the brevity, this is still a highly entertaining extreme horror trip.
Well readers, be prepared for a mixed bag of emotions & feelings while devouring this erotic horror story! Sadness, rage, vengeance, lust… just to name a few!
Annalise is stuck in an abusive situation. Until she meets Ditto, who shows her how to take control of her own life and that she is perfect in every way. Together they embark on a mission of emancipation and revenge.
Be prepared for a bloody and visceral Thelma and Louise style romp. There are some steamy and spicy moments mixed in with the horrifying elements, so it’s definitely a rollercoaster ride!
Asia definitely loves to throw some crazy twists and turns into her writing and this tale was no different. I never knew what the main character was going to do next… would she remain timid and beaten, or rise up like a vengeful phoenix. Be sure to add this book to your reading list and check out her other wild stories as well!
Ditto is a story of survival, self acceptance and retribution. It will intoxicate you with its darkly delicious twists and turns…then blow your mind with its satisfying conclusion.
This book was cathartic for me. It ripped me apart and put me back together within 160 pages. I’ve been through abuse my whole life so reading something terrible comforted me in a positive way.
Annalise is a girl who’s never known real love in her entire life. Her parents died when she was young and the first relationship she got into when she got older was with a man named Rueben. Well Rueben is a POS.
The things that Annalise experiences at the hands of Rueben are terrible. Especially considering he is her first true lover. After he refuses to pick her up at work one night with her own car, she meets Ditto and everything she’s ever needed works its way into her life.
This book is something everyone should read. It breaks my heart because I know a lot of young girls are possibly going through this right now. There is one moment in the book that I cried ugly tears. The scene with the bathtub will live in my head rent free forever. Asia is someone who is an auto buy for me 🩵
”Don’t ever let any asshole think they deserve anything they’ve ever taken from you.”
Annalise is a scared, abused, and crumbling young woman.
Reuben is her controlling, wicked, and disgusting boyfriend.
And then there’s Ditto— edgy and protective. A man-eater of sorts, if that’s what you’d like to call her.
Annalise is in a cycle of trauma. Her boyfriend is sexually, emotionally, and physically abusive. There seems to be no way out. From assaulting her nightly, to depriving her of food— Reuben is Hell on Earth.
Annalise’s only escapes are her job and the nights Reuben doesn’t come home because he’s out having sex with other people.
And when things to seem to reach their peak, Ditto comes along.
She’s beautiful. Confident with a bit of badass-ery, she wants to help Annalise out of her darkest places.
And from here, Annalise and Ditto go on a fever-dream journey of self-discovery and revenge.
I loved the concept behind Ditto and the author’s decision to write a narrative that blended with her own traumatic upbringing. Writing through pain is challenging and rough— but it’s healing, too.
This is a novella about taking your shit back and making your life yours again. It’s also about the power of trauma and how we subconsciously block it out.
But sometimes you need to face your battles head on.
While a bit visceral and very erotic— I think many people can find themselves in Annalise’s story. Falling down a spiraling rabbit-hole of trauma and depression is a very real situation for millions of people. This may be a fictionalized account, but the story itself is true to life.
I’m giving this novella ★ ★ ★ ★ stars for its story and because I read this in one easy sitting. It did keep me anticipating more. I did knock off a star because I found it a bit predictable and lacking in development. Maybe it was intentional so that we could focus on the main theme, but I’m unsure. I’d absolutely be willing to read more from Asia Brito Guerrero. This is my first by her, and it was solid. I see why she’s loved and cherished in the indie horror community, for sure.
I recieved an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Wow. This book was beautifully heartbreaking. I loved every part of this book. And it holds a lot of emotions and feminine rage.
In this book we follow Annalise, she is stuck in a abusive relationship and it's the only love she has ever known. One day, when her boyfriend doesn't care to pick her up from work, she meets Ditto. Ditto seems to just show up at the right place at the right time, and she is beautiful, mysterious and draws Annalise in from the start. Annalise and Ditto quickly starts forming a sexual relationship, and with Dittos help Annalise starts seeking for revenge.
This book was amazing. Both tragic and hot and it made me feel a lot of emotions, but somehow also comfort. Asia is such an amazing author, they way she writes is beautiful and captivating. This is a must read and I definitely recommend this book!
This was such a powerful story. I actually had a hard time reading some of the scenes in the beginning between the FMC and Reuben because they were so spot on to moments I’ve experienced in my life. I went into this blind so I wasn’t prepared, and it all threw me off guard — which is why it took me a lot longer than necessary to read. In normal circumstances, this is a quick and enticing read. The writing is very good — and again, POWERFUL. I cannot stress that enough. Thank you so much to the author for allowing me to read and review this for her.
Fast paced novella that follows the main character who is in a degrading foul abusive relationship with a piece of 💩, once again stranded at work she meets a new friend who awakens her lust and desires and one of those desires is to get rid of pieces of 💩. A very well written story of finding your inner strength.
Guys, this book!! I am wiping tears away as I type. This book has everything you want in a novella. Gore, revenge, hot bisexuals, erotica. It is the epitome of the good for her genre. And yet in 100 pages, Asia, on top of all the fun stuff, rips your heart to shreds. She handles hard topics such as SA and abuse with such dignity and respect. It is more than a plot point. It is heart and soul flooding the pages.
She did it again!!! I first read a book by Asia when it came in a book box I received. I was actually BLOWN away by her writing style and creativity. Her books just draw me in from the very beginning. Ditto was captivating and thrilling. I truly cannot wait to read more from her.
Wow. Ditto is a wild ride. This is extreme horror at its finest, and I absolutely loved it.
Ditto is masterfully written, and the story flows so seamlessly that I am amazed by the density of this novella. What Asia is able to pack into 109 pages is impressive.
On an emotional level, this story is visceral and raw, and you want to cry for Annalise, and you also want to grab her by her collar, shake her, and tell her to grow a backbone.
And that's what she does when Ditto arrives. And what follows is a gory, glorious revenge-fest of satisfying proportion.
Please check the content warning, but if you aren't squeamish, you need to read Ditto.
Wow. This was unexpected in the best kind of way. Annalise is with Reuben and he’s awful to her. I cannot even imagine being subjected to that kind of humiliation and degradation. Annalise’s flashbacks and self realizations come to a head at the end of the story for a climactic and almost tragic retribution. Great novella packed with gore and unraveling twists. I love Asia Brito Guerrero’s books. Haven’t read a bad one yet!
I never thought I would feel so seen, especially in an Erotic & Extreme Horror novel. But here we are.
This book felt very therapeutic, in a way. As someone who’s been in an abusive relationship but never got the revenge, this book was very cathartic for me. To experience the revenge on an abusive boyfriend did things to me.
This short novel ripped me apart but also comforted me on levels I didn’t expect or thought were possible.
The things Annalise experienced and went through at the hands of her abusive boyfriend Reuben (which is also her first true love) are absolutely horrible and hit very close to home.
This short story broke my heart but also did piece it back together. It’s incredibly well written and I think a lot of women will recognize themselves because they are going through it right now or have experienced something similar.
I would definitely recommend reading this, just make sure you’re in the right headspace.
Big thank you to Asia for the ARC copy. This is a story I will hold dear forever.
Wow. Just... wow. I've loved every single one of Asia's books, and Ditto is no exception. In my opinion, it's her best work so far.
We follow Annalise as she tries to survive her day to day life with an abusive partner. After a particularly difficult day, she meets Ditto, an intriguing stranger who shows up, literally, at the right time and place. Annalise's newly found friendship serves as a place for her to work through deeply rooted trauma and sexual exploration.
This story brought me to my knees... and to tears. It's such a brilliant tale of strength and self-preservation. Asia has a unique way of propelling her readers through such a wide range of emotions - Ditto took me from rage and sadness to arousal and pride. I know it will stick with me for a long time.
My jaw remained in an unhinged position throughout reading ‘Ditto’. The horror elements were absolutely, incredibly horrific & I just know that most [ahem…bread tags] of them will remain inside of my brain bank, against my wishes, forever. The erotic, dirty, nasty smut of it all was so deliciously satisfying. We love a sapphic romance and our girls Annalise & Ditto did not disappoint. I could’ve read a whole novel about them in a strawberry bubble bath, honestly *cues panting*
I greatly appreciate the opportunity to ARC read this novella! Asia truly outdid herself with this book!!
Really hard not to give spoilers for this one, so I’ll keep it brief. Asia has gifted us an absolute treat in Ditto, loaded to the gills will trigger content. This is a tale of trauma and feminine rage, culminating in a butt ton of heart murder.
The feels are very real with this one, so make sure you’ve stocked up on the Kleenex.
As a survivor of SA & DV, I wish I'd had a Ditto for myself. This book was raw and packed a hell of a punch. Great gore mixed with just the right amount of spice 🌶️ made for one incredible read. I am very thankful to have gotten the opportunity to ARC read this! This is my first by Asia and she is definitely one author to watch out for! 🤘🏻
Full disclosure: I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
While I might own others, this was my first novel by Asia, and, I have to say, that I am very pleased with this first impression.
From page one, Ditto is a descent into darkness and pain. This is amplified by how well the main character, Annalise, and the supporting cast are fleshed out. From her good-hearted co-worker to her absolutely despicable boyfriend, and even the enigmatic Ditto herself, each character plays their part in the story perfectly and helps draw you deeper into the narrative. You easily come to care about Annalise, hate her boyfriend, and become quite intrigued with DItto through the well-done characterization.
Though Ditto is a novelette, it covers a lot of ground in its short page count. This dark, violent emotional journey flows smoothly and deftly, with a lot of killer with very little filler. The sexual and violent content is portrayed unflinchingly, providing the right amount of heat and gore. I am also happy to say, that in a genre that often uses graphic content to excess, every scene of sex and violence in this story is there with a purpose that helps further the narrative. Also, there is a scene of violence in this book that is particularly inventive. As a long-time fan of horror, I take a sort of ghoulish delight when I see a fresh new spin on carnage candy, and Asia gave me that.
This book not only contains heavy sexual scenes and graphic violence, but it also delves into some very unpleasant subject matter. While I didn’t mind its use as part of the story (because I am a big believer that horror when done right, should make us feel at least a little uncomfortable) I would advise that readers be aware that there are potential triggers to be found here.
In summary, I would like to say that I really enjoyed Ditto as well as Asia’s voice as a writer. While this may have been the first book of hers I read, I can tell you it most certainly will not be the last. So, if anything above sounds interesting to you, I highly recommend you check out this book as soon as you can. That way when someone says they enjoyed it, you can smile and say….Ditto.
This is a five star out of five star read, of course. I’ve read Butterscotch before this book and that was also five stars, so I think that’s just Miss Asia’s thing. Now onto Ditto.
This one resonated with me pretty deeply. Having dealt with an abusive relationship for many years, I related to Annalise almost instantly. Her deep feelings of loneliness and isolation were easy to understand and Asia wrote about her feelings in a way that were clear and easy to understand for readers who haven’t been in a situation like that.
I loved the introduction of Ditto’s character and what she represented in this story. I sort of had an idea how it would end, but it was still beautifully done.
I’d say if you’re looking for a good story with female rage and revenge, you can’t miss with this one!
If you're a fan of unsettling and disturbing extreme erotic horror, then this book is a must-read for you. I've had the pleasure of reading two books by Asia Brito Guerrero, and I can confidently say that she has cemented her place as one of my favorite authors, whose work I will highly recommend to anyone looking for a chilling, unsettling, and disturbing read.
This book had me hooked from the start. There were some amazing twist and turns in the story and even has some WTF moments in it. I wasn’t expecting all the different emotions that this book brought out of me. Even though Ditto is a novelette it packs such a punch that it will bring different emotions out of you. Please check your trigger warnings before you go into reading this book.
Pretty good story line! Being a novelette it's shorter than I like but that's my personal preference. The outline of the story was good, could have used a little more structure to it, but again, it's a novelette, it's not meant to be long. My immediate hatred for the boyfriend shows the author is capable of writing such a vile person to ignite such feelings in me that in of itself was a great aspect of this story!
Visceral and exciting, Ditto delivers horrific brutality on the surface of a deeply heartbreaking narrative.
Annalise's story will get you from the instant you start reading. And then the rollercoaster ride begins! Her thoughts and fears will build you up until Ditto enters the story. Then YOU become Ditto, and you root and cheer and cringe every page thereafter until the very end.
Another must-read entry from Guerrero! I can not recommend this book enough!
I was leery going into an “erotic and extreme horror” novella, but thoroughly enjoyed it. I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s a girl seeking revenge at its finest. Can’t wait to read more from this author!
I'm a little bit meh about this one. I loved the premise of it but I'm struggling to see where the extreme part is? There isn't really anything in here that I haven't read from any other book detailing domestic abuse. And the "revenge" scene fell pretty flat.
I really don't know where to put this book it isn't Extreme horror or even horror. Whilst I think the writing was good, it was extremely predictable, certain scenes could've been way more descriptive and vengeful. And I hated the ending. Is it worth a quick read? yes. Could it have been so much more? Totally.
Wasn’t expecting the wide array of emotions that this story brought out in me…very well written & the storyline is captivating. Dark, atmospheric, and visceral in nature! Absolutely loved it!
Annalise is in an abusive relationship with a man named Reuben. One night she is attacked by a man in an alleyway and she is saved by Ditto. Ditto and her start to become close and although Annalise notices something familiar about Ditto but she is unable to figure it out.
Ditto definitely had some hard moments because the author did a fantastic job making sure the reader would feel the emotions of Annalise. I really enjoyed this book.
