BOOK 3: THE THIRD BETRAYAL There is a traitor in British Intelligence — one who’s been silently revealing secrets to the Soviet enemy for decades. David Nairn is determined to find out who and restore trust with the United States. Sarah Cable, now an agent on Nairn’s team, is sent on her first assignment. Nairn knows he’s risking her life, but he must act fast to expose the most dangerous and elusive mole in the Service.

As she starts to fall for him, she finds herself torn between duty and love. The mission hangs on a knife edge as an unstable, nuclear-armed Pakistan threatens the whole world.

Sarah arrives in Hong Kong to unmask The Scorpion, but immediately finds herself in the sights of the enemy state. Her flat is firebombed, and she can trust no one. It’s a race against time to flush out the Chinese agent before she becomes The Scorpion’s next victim.
Before taking up writing, Michael Hartland spent twenty years travelling widely in Europe and the Far East as a diplomat, then working in counter-terrorism and for the United Nations. He draws on this experience to describe the secret world of espionage with insight and great authenticity.
His first book DOWN AMONG THE DEAD MEN was a runaway bestseller and his ground-breaking series of espionage novels published in the 1980s and 90s established him as one of the leading thriller writers in Britain and the United Sates. They have been translated into twenty-seven European languages and Japanese, adapted for BBC Radio-4 and television - and remain among the most fast-moving and gripping ever published.
Michael Hartland and his family live in Devon, where he is working on a new project inspired by contemporary Islamic terrorism.
Interesting enough to keep me reading. I wasn't as familiar with the spying tussles between China and Britain and the US from the end of WWII until the mid70's. Some of the characters carry throughout the five books, but some jumping to and fro occurs.
I have really enjoyed these books, great characters and story lines. Brilliant descriptions I felt I was with the folk there feeling their emotions, loved the thrill
