Every night when he goes to sleep, a boy named Zeke Da Silva finds himself imprisoned in a pitch black, freezing cold prison cell. He doesn’t know how he gets there, nor does he have any idea for what reason he has been incarcerated. All he knows is that there is something in that prison bent on making him suffer, and nothing he does seems to be able to make it stop. His only friend in the prison is a little girl named Anya, who seems to share the exact same fate he does. To his parents the prison is just a nightmare—but to him, the experiences feel just as real as the waking world. As he grows older, the boundary between nightmare and realty begins to blur, and Zeke begins a life-or-death struggle to rid himself of the memories of the cell. He seeks help from friends, family, and his own instinct, but soon finds his only comfort is within the very prison he wishes to escape.
Wow, where to start? ...We LOVE this book! This book is one of the best books tha we have read in years! This is truly an amazing book! The story grips you almost instantly, we read through this book in a couple of hours, we could not put this book down! This book is messed up and merciless on SO many levels! This book is dark, and the descriptions on the various torture scenes are short, brutal, and to the point, which we like! We purrsonally found the main character, Ezekiel Daniel Da Silva (AKA "Zeke"), surprisingly, yet uncomfortably, relatable, which was both surprising, and surprisingly enjoyable? No spoilers, BUT the plot of this book "The Prisoner's Progress", basically follows along Zeke's life, and has an overall darker theme, involving various mental health issues and different toxic/abusive family life. This book mostly stays on a "down", but about halfway through the book, there is some high moments, and those little high chapters/moments, really make the book tha much more emotionally relatable. We did somewha see the end coming, it was also a little vague, but in a good way!
Fur us, we LOVE this book, fur most typical humans though, we would recommend having a stronger tolerance fur torture/brutality. Overall 5/5 stars, we fully suggest reading this book, not only is it stunning, captivating, and expressive, it leaves you with feelings tha you will NOT furget!
