The best way to get over a cheating jerk is to get under someone new.
Dominic isn’t looking for love or salvation at the Thirsty Cowboy. He needs a temporary escape from the drudgery his life has become, and the universe provides him with the sexiest distraction he’s ever seen. Sven is a sucker for sad eyes, thick thighs, and a Royal Cosmopolitan. He scores the trifecta of trouble when a broody hunk buys him a drink. Sparks fly, passions flare, and a simple kiss becomes a four-alarm blaze until an untimely interruption douses the men with an icy reality, pitting loyalty against lust.
They shouldn’t... They couldn’t… Spoiler they do!
It was supposed to be one and done but memories of their shared encounter won’t let go. A single text triggers two years of conversations, healing, and an endearing friendship that could blossom into something precious if Dom and Sven were brave enough to take a chance.
An unexpected invitation could provide the nudge their scarred hearts need. Exploring their reignited passion for two weeks in Vail would be a heavenly hideaway if not for a hellish houseguest’s resolve to cause trouble. Family rifts and uncomfortable confrontations abound, and embracing a future with Sven means Dom must face his past. Is their love strong enough to withstand the fire, or will they go down in flames?
StartsWith a Bang is a standalone novel within the Redemption Ridge universe. It contains mature content and is intended for adults.
I'm a wife and mother of three teenage kids. I've been married to the same wonderful man for twenty years. I've decided that if I can survive raising three kids then I can survive anything!! I haven't uttered the Mama's curse yet, but it could happen any day now. You know the one..."I hope you have a child just like you someday."
I'm an avid reader and lover of all things romance. I've spent my entire adult life waiting to follow my dreams of becoming a writer. One day this past summer, I decided to just do it. No more wishing and hoping. I haven't quit my day job, but that is my ultimate goal...make a living telling stories of love.
I write contemporary gay fiction. I hope you will love reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them.
Aimee does it again with this cracking good romance between Kerry's best friend PI Dom and sassy hair stylist Sven, who's also Kerry's stepbrother.
The opening chapter is sweet, steamy and hilarious and Sven and Dom meet in a bar, get all flirty and snoggy and Kerry comes charging in to let Dom know he's not allowed to be kissing his younger brother!
I was laughing and flushing all at the same time and, as this book takes place over the same time period as Kerry and Keegan's The Beautiful Mess I also knew Kerry was about to get a taste of his own medicine too.
There's so much to love with this romance. Dom has been nursing a wounded heart as his husband cheated on him with his cousin, his family's divided and his job's a constant reminder as he investigates other peoples' dodgy relationships.
Sven's forever falling for the broken guys who end up going back to their original partners, so Kerry's really just trying to protect the younger brother he loves dearly, so I can forgive him a lot of his interference.
Still, this one's a slow burn as it takes place over a two year period with lots of text flirting, gaps where they don't speak at all, and the occasional meeting at the Hart family gatherings, until a situation arises which contrives to put them both together.
A fake relationship, forced proximity and only one bed, all join forces to see Dom and Sven heading off to Vail to meet with Dom's fractured family where his cheating ex, his cousin and all the rest will be gathering.
Aimee ramps up the UST here and we finally get to see Dom and Sven explore the chemistry between them and build on the friendship that's grown through two years of texting, watching movies long distance together and generally learning more about each other.
I love them as a pairing, Sven is fierce in his protective nature and he's not going to let anyone make Dom feel small, especially not his obnoxious ex.
But he's also intuitive and caring, and he sees Dom's Aunt is hurting and his kindness results in a long overdue self-reflection that ends up seeing Dom's ex finally getting his just deserts.
Of course, there's more to it than that, Aimee cleverly using the closed setting for some home truths to out and with a very Happy Ending for more than just one member of the family going forward.
This book is, I believe, the final one in the Redemption Ridge series and I will be so sad to say goodbye to this wonderful setting.
#ARC kindly received from the author via GRR Tours, I am voluntarily leaving a review
Uggh I swooned so hard over these two, not a surprise with this series. I love Redemption Ridge and I’m so sad it’s ending. I hate to be that girl, but dare I say it ended with a bang….I’ll see myself out🚶🏾♀️
Dom and Sven were so sweet to each other, they did enough pining to fill a forest but they were so frigging mature about things. Like they actually talked and communicated like adults in their 30s actually should (miscommunication trope is my most least favorite trope, like hello just fucking talk people 🙄) After Cash and Nick these two are my faves bc I just love a warm safe relationship and this one was just so well written.
You know I cannot leave this review without talking about the spice bc holy fuck this woman knows how to write a delicious, descriptive sex scene 👀 Bc lemme tell you, I ate up each and every spicy scene 🍽️😛
This was such a great series that I feel should be wayyy more popular! I definitely plan on collecting the physical books and reading the rest of the author’s catalog bc Aimee Nicole Walker’s writing scratches my brain so good. I’m always able to lock in fully when I read a book of hers 🥰
The blurb sounded too good to pass, so I dove right in without reading the reviews or checking if it was the first in a series. Guess what 🙄🤣 It turns out to be number 7. However, I guess most of the reviews weren’t my type of critical because they wouldn’t have prevented me from reading this. And I guess the book isn’t that bad, the story is nice enough, but it was a waste of time anyway. I really don’t like it when all the puzzle pieces fall into place in one shake. The build up of the story was promising. A brooding man and a lovely guy who are into each other. I really don’t care for protective big brothers (“you’re not allowed to hook up or else”) and of course they don’t listen. And then they do. For TWO YEARS! Somehow the brother then decides it’s ok for them to see each other and since he apparently calls all the shots they do. Parents in this book are either flawless and “so much in love after all these years” or horrible because you can’t have real people who are just fine most of the time and still have some flaws. And then the puzzle pieces: affairs get revealed, years of arguments get solved and the drunk aunt goes to AA within one night. So cringy! And so much talking! I know I hate it when the real stuff happens off page. But apologetic discussions with your cousin who shacked up with your ex-husband? Not that necessary. Also being someone who fixes up people so they can go back to their ex? Not a thing in real life…
The only thing I missed was the recipe for the cookies they baked (for real though).
So… suffice to say: not my cup of tea. And I’m definitely not going back to read book 1-6 in this series.
I wish Crea Reitan would give master classes on how to write great fiction (where you know it must be fiction because of the ridiculous things that happen ) but you still feel like the people are real. In her books I always want to hug the mc’s 🤗and thank them for sharing their stories with me. And that authors like this one are only allowed to publish after taking said master classes… 👏
Rating: 4 Steam: 3 PoV: dual, 3rd person Genre: contemporary romance, MM Tropes / tags: pining, slow burn, small town
Starts With a Bang is a standalone romance within the Redemption Ridge series, and I was thrilled when I saw that Sven and Dom would be getting a full-length novel instead of the planned novella!
This was one of those "right person, wrong time" romances, where Dom was fresh out of a divorce at the beginning of the story and needed to get his feet back under himself before he could start something with Sven. They both needed the time and distance, even if the pining made my heart ache. It was sweet to read their sporadic texts and see how they had some long distance movie nights though, both of them feeling the connection and pull, but not being ready for each other just yet.
Their chemistry was obvious from the moment they met, and I honestly loved the build up between them. It was great to finally see them let their restraint drop during the Christmas stay with Dom's family, and their little "fake" relationship didn't feel fake for a second. The Christmas together also brought some family drama in to the mix, but overall it was a low angst story with plenty of humour and sweetness. I loved how Sven and Dom really couldn't get enough of each other once they stopped resisting their feelings, and they had so many swoony and heartwarming moments together!
Stars With a Bang was like putting the final bow and neatly wrapping up the Redemption Ridge series! I loved to see Sven and Dom finally find their HEA together - the initial pining and distance made their relationship so much sweeter and it was very easy to root for these two and their happiness. Sven and Dom made me smile a lot, and this is the perfect read if you're looking for a swoony, slow burn story with a super sweet HEA!
- Thanks to Gay Romance Reviews for the opportunity to read and review this book. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.
Wow this book was sooo good. My heart broke for Dom but I’m glad he finally let Sven in and help heal. I love the banter and how the relationship unfolded. One of my favorites this month.
My only real issue with this story is the expectation for Dom by everyone to forgive Christian. And Christian's excuse to pursue Dom's husband? "I loved him first?" Seriously, Christian? Lets sound more entitled shall we? Ya. No. Dude, you literally sabatoged your cousin's marriage and betrayed him in the worst way. Forgiveness shall not be granted. On a positive note regarding the affair, Dom points out to everyone, including Christian, that even though Christian and the ex hadn't slept together (supposedly) until after Dom left, they still cheated as an emotional affair is still cheating. Otherwise, an enjoyable quick read. Oh...I wouldn't mind a follow-up just to see if Dom's aunt took her husband for every cent. Fingers crossed she did.
So this story was supposed to be released for the end of the year celebrations but Mrs. Walker said that it got out of hand. I completely forgot this tibit of information which is why I was surprised it was on the light side and very easy to read after all of the previous Redemption Ridge books serious plot/drama.
Though it is light without being too sugary, I expected more action, investigation shenanigans considering both of their roles in helping with Kerry’s case in the previous book. We don’t see either of them into action even though it has been alluded to in this book, and I’m 100% sure it would have been a riot to see them bantering and bonding during investigation and surveillance time. Especially with this title! Instead, we have a long string of back and forth messages for two years that IMO, don't show quite enough the building of an emotional entanglement on the top of a strong and persistent physical attraction between them. It reflected Dom’s unavailability more than his interest even if we can feel a beginning of a connection. But well, I'm just that greedy and I understand that in this case the book would have been considerably longer (which I wouldn’t have minded ofc)
That said, I can definitely picture myself re-reading this book as a standalone winter romance because it had all the vibes for it (family reunion, trash ex, baking and cooking, games and family conversations and drama to sort out, messed up dynamics, hilarious grandma and copious amounts of sex), without falling into super obvious cliches and feeling like a copy and paste of the thousands winter romance that already exist. Highlights include the many one-liners some members of the family uttered - I was cackling out loud and would have brought popcorn if I was actually there because boy, some scenes were showdown time!
As for our MCs, as soon as the green light was given for physical intimacy, they were basically in a relationship. No pretending in front of the fam and no internal fighting about mixed feeling and moral obligations and secrets and lies, nope. It was just the natural unfolding of their relationship in motion.
I give it a 4,5 stars cause I created my own expectations about the plot and it’s no one’s fault but mine that they weren’t fulfilled, so apart from that, it was a nice holiday treat!
I loved this book and it ties up the Redemption Ranch series beautifully as this is a standalone within the series. Sven has been a character you couldn’t ignore, a sassy, outspoken and funny hair stylist and I am so glad he got his own story and was not just Kerry’s stepbrother.
In the first chapter we find out how Dom, who is Kerry’s best friend, and Sven meet and although the chemistry is instant it is also very funny especially when Kerry turns up!
This story takes place alongside Kerry and Keegan’s romance in The Beautiful Mess and although it’s a slow burn, right person but wrong time, when they do get together OMG the heat is off the charts and they can’t get enough of each other.
Dom is coming out of a very messy divorce and his job as a PI probably doesn’t help, chasing down cheating partners, and Sven has fallen for a lot of brokenhearted men who he fixes and they then go back to the person who broke them. My heart ached for them and the time and distance between them.
Dom was doubly hurt as the man his ex-husband was seeing was his cousin. They had grown up together and were like brothers. This scenario splits a family in two as the repercussions force them to take sides.
When the family all come together, after years of not speaking, in a chalet in Vail for Christmas and the NY, Kerry and Keegan suggest Dom takes Sven so he doesn’t have to face his ex and cousin alone. Sven makes it quite clear that it will not be fake, he wants it all.
Aimee writes some wonderful scenes when the family all come together in close proximity. It seems nearly everyone is hiding secrets and hurting and lots of home truths get aired including the reason why the family holiday was arranged. Enter the feisty, no filter nana Helen. She was hilarious and had some of the best lines. A lot of lives changed after their vacation but throughout the storms Sven and Dom grew closer and their romance was wonderful and their HEA well deserved.
This book wrapped everything up nicely. It’s always sad when a series you have really enjoyed ends but I can’t wait to see what Aimee has for us next,
I am so happy that Aimee decided to give us Sven and Dom's story! I'd been intrigued by their dynamic since it was first pointed out, but I never could have guessed what was truly going on behind closed doors for years. Their story was supposed to end as a one-night stand, but instead their hook-up was just the beginning.
I loved seeing the friendship between Sven and Dom blossom through their text messages. Their communication started off sporadic, but eventually it led to more regular texts and even virtual movie nights. Their friendship was so freaking cute. It did make me sad whenever Dom wouldn't attend an event because he knew he wouldn't be able to keep away from Sven. But I had to give him credit because he knew himself best and he didn't think he was ready to open that can of worms just yet.
If I hadn't already adored Keegan from reading his and Kelly's story I would have now. His little idea of having Sven tag along with Dom to his family holiday where his cheating ex was in attendance was the push in the right direction these two desperately needed. It had been two years. It was time for these two to get the HEA they both wanted with each other. It was even better with how much Dom's family loved Sven too. They were a cast of characters, especially his grandmother. My thoughts about his cousin Christian are still on the fence. What he did was horrible, but I hope his hindsight has brought him peace and that one day he will find someone who appreciates all the love he has to give. Who know, maybe Aimee has an idea!
This is the final book in the Redemption Ridge series but can read as a standalone.
The book opens when Dom and Sven first meet at a bar and start flirting. Doms best friend and Svens stepbrother Kelly interrupts them kissing and makes it clear that they should stop (but they don’t listen). Kellys reason is understandable because the timing is bad. Dom is going through a divorce from his cheating husband and Sven has a history with men like him – he attracts men who’v been shattered and puts them back together and they always go back to their ex – and Sven is the one left and hurt in the end.
They exchange phone numbers and start a friendship over texting with buddy movie nights over the phone, periods of no talking or texting and sometimes they meet on events. I really liked the texting and the slow get to know each other over the time. The time and distance was what they needed, especially Dom to really get into the right headspace to get over his divorce and be what Sven deserves. They developed a beautiful and meaningful relationship and make each other happy.
2 years later, Dom has to go on a vacation over the holidays – with his fractured family, his ex-husband and his cousin. Sven volunteers to go with him as a fake boyfriend under the condition that nothing is off-limits between them and they can be real for the two weeks. Sven wants to use the vacation to prove to Dom that they can be together and that they have something truly special. Their chemistry had intensified over the last two years and is growing stronger everytime they are in the same room. Sven met a man worth fighting for and would stop at nothing to claim Dom as his.
I really liked the time they spend at the vacation, the interactions with the family and between Dom and Sven. They alternated between rowdy family time and tender private moments. They really deepend their relationship and finally admitted that they are the one for each other. Dom has a lovely and hilarious family, especially the grandma. She and Sven bonded immediately. The parents on both sides are amazing and supportive.
Tropes: slow burn and a lot of pining, texting, fake boyfriend for the family vacation, forced proximity and only one bed.
This is my honest and voluntary review for the ARC I received.
I love a good opposites attract and/or grumpy sunshine pairing and this book is so darn good! Dom and Sven are the best couple and Aimee Nicole Walker made readers wait years (not as many as it could have been) in this book for them to finally get together! Although I gotta say, it was absolutely worth the wait. The text exchanges between Sven and Dom after that night at the bar lay the foundation of a beautiful connection and/or friendship that you find yourself hoping will become something more.
Sven is patient AF, even though he can’t control his mouth around Dom. ;) Dom is skittish after his previous relationship; plus there is the whole thing of Sven being Dom’s best friend’s little brother. There’s also the little tidbit about how Sven mends broken hearts, only for them to ___ ____ ____ ______ ______.
This book made me laugh, shout, smile, and fist pump. I really enjoyed the story and most of the characters woven throughout it like Kerry, Keegan, Molly Beth, Dominic, Sr., Nana, etc. Heck, even Janet won me over by the end. (I’m still wary of Christian and Emerson is a tool that doesn’t deserve an iota of happiness). You will feel all kinds of emotions reading this book.
I appreciate how authentic Walker makes the connection between Dom and Sven feel. Their chemistry is top tier! I also love how kind both MCs are. Sven genuinely cares about Dom and lifts his spirits up. Dom has the highest regard for Sven. It’s obvious how much both men respect one another. When things become more between them, it’s just that much sweeter. Their HEA and epilogue is so touching! This story is very well written and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. It sits within the Redemption Ridge universe, but can be read as a standalone. Now go grab a copy and swoon!
I really enjoyed this. This is a new to me author and this book gave me everything I wanted. Dom and Sven meet at a bar and get interrupted by Dom's best friend Kerry, who turns out to also be Sven's stepbrother. True to the title, the book starts with a bang, despite Kerry trying to warn them off each other. Dom's is in an especially tender situation being in the midst of a divorce and Sven has a penchant for putting back together hurt people and them ending up leaving him.
I really enjoyed Sven and Dom's back and forth, their banter and text convos were great! I especially loved that they became friends before taking things even further. I loved how Sven knew what he wanted and pursued it, while also being respectful of Dom's wishes and feelings. Sven having to act as Dom's boyfriend for 2 weeks finally gave them the chance to work through things and discuss what they both wanted. I really enjoyed the Christmas vibes in that part of the story. It was just very sweet and fun to watch them navigate their relationship. The betrayal Dom suffered at the hands of his cousin and his ex-husband weighed on him a lot, but I was glad to see how openly and honestly he and Sven communicated, so neither of them had to be scared or uncertain. Dom and Sven just felt like a sweet, fun and perfect couple. I also really enjoyed all the side characters. I laughed quite a bit and had a great time reading this. And the epilogue just sealed it for me, it was exactly what the story needed.
Definitely pick this up if you're in the mood for a lighthearted and fun romance between a PI and a flirty hairdresser. Also, now I need to read the other books in this series.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.
[I received an ARC for an honest review] Rating: 4.25 stars Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Tropes: second-chance, fake dating, cheating and messy divorce, Christmas, one time stand to friends to more, best-friend's brother Review: This is the final book in the Redemption Ridge series, and I have so loved all my time with these men, and I was so happy to not only hear that Sven would be getting his own story, but that this was also extended from a novella to a full novel. I loved that we got to see the history behind these two, not starting straight from the end of the last book but jumping back 2 years to see how their situationship developed. I was a little dubious as to the whole fake dating scenario, but the way it played out, the motivations behind it and the opportunity it afforded these two, was absolutely perfect. And also talk about swoon, these two were so hot for each other but also so deliciously gone for each other too, I just loved how they opened up to each other, and the fun moments we got with them. I also loved how soft, kind, and sweet Dom was, amoung other more naughty things, but his little insecurities were so endearing, and I just loved how perfect he was was for Sven, even if he felt himself to not be that great and self-conscious. I think I would've liked a bit more on the plot side of things potentially, but given this was meant to be a little Christmas novella turned full-length, I really have no complaints about it. I had such a great time, and while I'm sad the series is over, it was such an amazing one and I'm so glad I picked up the first book when it first came out and have had the chance to fall in love with all of these characters. I hope that we get to see more of them in related series in the future.
This is just a cute and funny book in the Redemption Ridge universe.
We finally know how Sven and Dom met. If you read the previous Redemption Ridge books, especially The Beautiful Mess, you met Sven and Dom and if you are like me, you wonder what is behind their behaviour towards each other.
The start is a slow burn of not wanting to be more than friends. Over 2 years these two move to friends and movie buddies to not speaking to each other and back to friends. Neither wants anyone else but especially Dom is not secure in himself to move forward.
Then, he has to do the unexpected - stay under one roof with his ex. And well meaning friends push Sven onto him to come with him and help.
I love how unapologetic Sven is, sometimes he has no filter but he also is hugely protective of the people he loves and Dom is part and parcel of this. Taking the opportunity with both hands and with Dom also finally on the right track, he is not letting interruptions by family members getting in his way to a HEA both need and deserve.
Dom is so self-consious, the divorce definitely caused his self-esteem to tank and he slowly comes out on the other side with Sven waiting for him. He is a sweetheart, hurt but also open enough to realise that he has to be the one opening up to the people who hurt him first.
You could argue that some forgiveness and changed behaviours of some secondary characters come a bit fast but it fits the story.
I missed the other characters we met before a bit but as much of the book is set elsewhere, it's expected.
This book is part of the Redemption Ridge world. While you could enjoy it as a standalone read, do yourself a favor and read the entire series in order. I will just start with the fact that I absolutely loved this book! I loved the characters and the way it was written. The whole shebang. This is the story of Dom and Sven. Dom is a PI and best friend to Kerry. Sven is a hair stylist and step brother to Kerry. Dom and Sven meet at a bar when Dom sends Sven a drink. Dom is in the thrall of a divorce and is looking for an escape. Sven has a weakness for sad eyes and broken men. Seems like a perfect pick up until Kerry shows up. He yells at Dom to get away from his brother. Only then does Dom realize who he had been sexing up at the bar. The two separate like cats having cold water thrown on them. But it doesn't totally work. That is when the title comes enters the plot. After that, the two communicate periodically through text. It gave Dom time to sort himself out after his divorce was over. Also it gave them time to get to know each other. This is their story. I may have mentioned that I loved this book but I really did. The characters are really well written. I adored the text conversations throughout the book. I found it to be a fun read. I liked how Kerry helped push the two of them together when they really needed each other. The book is very well written and easy to read. I look forward to the next book by this author.
I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from GRR and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
A chance meeting leads to a hookup, but only after Sven’s brother and Dom’s best friend interrupts them, trying to discourage them.
Dom doesn’t want to betray his friend, and knows he’s a mess getting a divorce from his husband. Sven’s own pattern is helping broken men heal, after which they leave him for someone new.
So, they become text buddies and have movie nights as friends, but Sven doesn’t want anyone else. Two years later, their friendship takes a turn when they decide they’re both ready to try for more.
Dom’s aunt is having a gathering to celebrate Christmas with his elderly grandmother, and wants to heal the family. Dom’s ex took up with his cousin, and his aunt and uncle took his side, wrongly.
This is Sven’s chance to not only support him, but to gain permission for them to try being together for real. It soon becomes clear their feelings are true, and Dom makes it clear to his ex there’s nothing there between them, leading his cousin to also leave the ex after overhearing them talk.
The family has good talks and healing starts for his aunt and cousin. Dom and Sven commit to their relationship and start building their life together.
Both of these men are sweet and fun, and I like the side story about Dom’s family and their own problems.
I received this ARC for free and am pleased to give it my honest review with gratitude.
I loved this book. It made me smile and laugh when I really needed it. Sven is awesome in so many ways and I am glad that he found a way to keep in touch with Dom after that first night. Their story takes place over two years, but it doesn't drag. When Sven and Dom first meet, Dom is going through a messy divorce, so it really wasn't the best time for them then. While their texting and rare in person interactions weren't where Sven wanted them to be, the time gave them the chance to heal and be ready when they actually had a chance to be together.
I was so happy that Sven went with Dom to his family gathering. Dom's parents were awesome as was his grandmother. While I could see why Dom was so hurt during his divorce, I was happy to see him come to terms with his extended family and realize that Sven is all he needed. Sven was amazing at dealing with Dom's family and I loved every moment of it. I was so happy to see Dom and Sven make a commitment to each other and be confident about it. These two were rock solid and it was fabulous to see.
I read this as a standalone and had no issues doing it, minus a more pressing need to go back and read the rest of the Redemption Ridge series.

Dom & Sven’s romance felt lighter than the previous books in the Redemption Ridge series (it can be read as a stand alone) but it was no less enjoyable. The beginning of the book takes us thru their first meeting and the months that follow as they slowly get to know each other better & Dom takes the time to get to a more stable place emotionally. I appreciate that they had that opportunity and didn’t just jump into any kind of relationship.
When Dom has to face his past, Sven comes along to provide moral support and a buffer. Bringing with him all his larger than life personality and confidence. And a chance to take their friendship to something more. It’s been a long, slow courtship for them. And for us :)
Dom’s family is a hoot and Sven fits right in. By the end of the book, I wanted to enjoy one of their holidays. While I do wish we’d gotten a few more Christmassy shenanigans, overall I was satisfied as I turned that final page.
I’ve loved every book in the Redemption Ridge and while I’m sad to see it end the fact that we finish with Sven is perfect. He’s been such a high point in the last couple of books – supportive, sassy, and fun. I’m looking forward to seeing what Walker has in mind next.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**
This series has turned out to be such a bright spot in my reading the last few years. Each couple has something to add and I really think it's only gotten better. Sven and Dom weren't supposed to get a book originally I think but I'm so glad they did, they were a really sweet and romantic couple.
Dom, a PI, is coming off of a nasty divorce when he runs into Sven, a hairdresser, at a bar. They knew each other as kids but it's been some time so they don't immediately recognize each other. Their relationship starts with a bang (yes, literally) but then, since Dom is well aware he has emotional healing to do, it cools off into a sporadic friendship that revolves around little texting conversations. I liked that aspect of it as it allowed for them to really get to know each other and I like when there is emotional connection before the romantic relationship really starts.
Both Dom and Sven are really likable MCs. I loved how Sven showered Dom with compliments and made it his mission to take care of Dom. There wasn't any glossing over the work both characters do to grow as people over their two year friendship. I thought it was a really touching love story.
A sweet and sassy romance that was such an enjoyable read. This book felt like a standalone, even though it’s part of the Redemption Ridge series.
The main characters were so suited to each other, and the chemistry felt so real. Dom is a detective who feels lost and defeated. His husband left him for Dom’s cousin, Christian. So not only is his marriage over, but Dom lost his best friend. The cousins were as close as brothers, so the betrayal is double-edged.
His best friend’s younger brother, Sven, makes his intentions known to Dom. Sven has a savior complex, and frankly, Dom is a hot mess. They remained friendly, and even though it took a while for nature to take its course, it made sense for both men to be cautious.
I loved the dynamics of the MC’s family. They all had a mutual bond, hating Emerson, the man who broke Dom’s heart and is still currently dating his cousin. The grandmother was cute with some over-the-top comments. I especially loved how Sven fit so seamlessly with Dom’s family.
This story was a pure delight, showcasing how challenging families can be, even when you love them. I highly recommend it. Enjoy, and happy reading!

Very enjoyable story. I couldn't believe how Kerry broke up Dom and Sven and laughed when they hooked up in Dom's van. It was unusual that for two years they were talking and texting and watching movies and jacking off but never seeing each other. I felt bad for Dom because of his rotten ex and betrayal of his cousin. Then when it seemed that Dom's Nana was fading and the vacation would be a cabin in Vail and that the whole family would be there including the ex and cousin for the holidays and I expected a total disaster. The ex was as rotten as expected and Christian seemed sad. I disliked the aunt Janet at first and her husband John was unlikable too but you learned that she was miserable and that John was cheating on her. I loved how she threw him out and you knew he would regret his actions. The ex tried to get Dom back and he turned him down but Christian had heard what he said about making a mistake and he broke up with him. Dom and Sven grew closer and fell in love and it was wonderful. I am sorry that this is the last Redemption Ridge book but hope there will be more stories about them.
Starting with the obvious, this has no business being a Redemption Ridge book. The focus of the series was on the farm and its inhabitants, and Sven and Dom fit neither bill. The only connection to it in any character we see or really even mention is Keegan, a beloved Season 4 add-on, but a Season 4 add-on nonetheless. It would be like if Glee decided to do a whole episode devoted to the brother of Adam Lambert's character, and called that enough of a connection to fit the show. I really wish this existed as a standalone, or the start of a spinoff series or something.
WITH THAT SAID, THIS WAS FUCKING DELIGHTFUL AND I HAVE ZERO NOTES. Starting off the book with a connection followed by two years of text flirting was adorable and had me rooting for them every step of the way. Dom's family is hilarious and warm and I loved them all, except for the obvious ones. If this had been a longer book, there's more I would've wished to see, specifically in terms of Christian's apology tour and the extended downfall of those who deserve it. But this book was an absolute treat and I am incredibly sad that the series is over, I can't wait to see what Aimee does next.
Dom and Sven's romance was such a playful, enjoyable read. I didn't expect the start of their relationship to be such a slow burn, but the wait was more than worth it in the end. Sven made no secret of his interest in Dom from the first night they met, but Dom needed more time to work through his reservations and insecurities. A surprise family holiday get-together was precisely the catalyst the two of them needed to explore their chemistry, and what a delight it was to see how Sven charmed Dom's entire family without effort. Moving on from toxic relationships was a plot thread that several of Dom's family members shared, and I felt really proud of each of them for standing up for themselves and what mattered to them by the time this book ended. Sven and Dom's romance stayed on an upward trajectory for the entirety of this book, and even the little blips of uncertainty couldn't slow them down for more than a handful of hours. All in all, I thought this was a wonderfully angst-free and uplifting story, and the epilogue was the perfect cherry on top to round things out.
**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.
This is the latest release in the Redemption Ridge series (and maybe the last) and it bring Sven and Dom’s story full circle. Both were secondary characters in the previous book, and Sven has popped in early in the series. That being said, this book stands alone better than any of the others. I’m a fan of this series and definitely suggest you read them all, but it’s not necessary for you to enjoy this book.
I will say that there’s a lot of drama surrounding Dom’s family, and it almost took the focus away from the romance. Several major things happen and are resolved kind of quickly. Given that this is, ostensibly, a holiday romance, I can see why things are easy. But given the time frame, as well as the plot lines, I did think it was kind of a lot.
If it is indeed the end, it was a lovely place to finish things off. And if it’s not, I’ll happily head back into this world for any other story Walker wants to tell.
Seventh in series (Redemption Ridge), can be read as a standalone, but might be more fun if read in order as Dom and Sven have shown up preciously in the series. Best friend’s brother. Slight fake relationship. Dual POV.
Even when warned away by his stepbrother, hair stylist Sven has a memorable encounter with private investigator Dom that neither man can forget. Over a two year period they share pieces of their lives with each other but not much more until Sven decides that a holiday trip can finally help him seal the deal with Dom.
Both Dom and Sven were likable characters, their chemistry sizzling off the chart, and their ease of falling into a relationship very lovely. I do wish there was a little more background on the characters besides just their previous break-ups, but I enjoyed every moment that they were on page together either texting or flirting. The fact that there wasn’t really anyone else for them once they knew each other was sweet, and the fact that there was no angst inside their relationship made this an enjoyable read. 4.5 rounded up
I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
Super adorable and veeeeeeery sexy romance, with all your usual OTT family drama, an ex you love to hate, and srsly the most stunning cover i've seen in a while! Sven was as darling as i would have wanted him to be, and i enjoyed imagining this bold beauty as the cover model for probably the first time in my life lol!
As always, Walker's narrative was both fun and lighthearted while conveying an emotional story without the heavy. Smushy and romantic, a touch of sassy gran and a family rift on the mend over the holidays, made this one of the more chill-despite-the-drama romances with a cute HEA that i would never get tired of reading.
Glad i got a chance to give the Redemption Ridge series a go even though Starts With a Bang is a standalone. Looking forward to more from Aimee Nicole Walker, because i'm such a fan of Sawyer and Royce, and this was a scrumptious lovely romance to add to everything i already love and celebrate about this author!
This is book 7 in the series and features Sven and Dom. Sven went out one night to a bar for a drink and to meet someone. He sees someone sitting at the bar looking all dejected. After a bit he goes and sits with him and starts a conversation. When that conversation turned into a kiss, they were interrupted by Sven’s brother Kerry. Kerry is also friends with Dom, who said that he was not ready as he was going through a nasty divorce. When they met outside, they exchanged numbers. Fast forward two years and both Sven and Dom were texting and having movie nights together. Dom receives a call from his mother saying they are having a family get together but his ex-husband would be there. That is when they came up with the idea that Sven would go with him. This is the start of their story of how they finally got together and enjoyed the family vacation. I love the world building with high heat and chemistry. If you love slow burn romance, this is the one for you. I love it and cannot wait for more.
