Miles Brooks can barely keep it together. With a mountain of bills and a business going under, he has no time for anything else. Then his older brother and uncle piss off the local alpha, and now they all have a target on their backs. Calling his brother’s best friend is his only option. He hasn’t seen Cooper in years, yet he still has a crush on him. All Miles has to do is keep his paws to himself. Cooper never really saw him, but something’s changed. Cooper can’t seem to take his eyes off him.

Cooper Hayes left Pecan Pines ten years ago after a humiliating defeat. He’s in a better place and in a stable pack now. When Cooper receives a frantic call from his best friend’s little brother, he has no choice but to return home. Staying long isn’t an option, but then he meets Miles again. Gone is the annoying brat who constantly tagged along with Cooper and his best friend. In fact, the little wolf is all grown up now. Even Miles’ scent has changed…because Miles smells like his mate.

"Cooper" is an M/M shifter romance and the first book in the Pecan Pines series.

WHY?!!! Why do authors do this?! Sigh.

We are 2.5 seconds in the book, one’s brother has been injured badly, the other is a best friend who dropped everything to come to his besties bedside, and after 2 seconds of seeing each other they are already sharing a kiss? WTF? You haven’t seen each other for 10 years and a person who you both care about is in the hospital and the first thing yall thought to do was kiss each other!!! Make it make sense! Mind you one thought the other was annoying, and the other didn’t even know his brother was still in contact. I don’t care what your wolf side thinks have some freaking self control. Instant turn off.

Sweet story and nice start to a new series. Focuses more on story and couple than intimate moments. Build up to the spicy scenes are hot but the actual acts are pretty bland and fast. It’s like someone took it and dipped it in ranch dressing. Fine for someone who isn’t into it for the smut. I think it could have been spicier without being Roe Horvat level. (I’m a whore for Horvat so that’s not an insult) It was cute though, Cooper and Miles seemed to have had an immediate connection after so long away. I think Sawyer (Miles’ brother is going to have a cute story and I hope the same for Miles’ friend Noah. I would say this is probably a good young adult read and has some really good action too.

"Thank you, Miles," I whispered. "For what?" he asked, his voice drowsy. "For being mine," I replied, kissing his neck where I had marked him. "And for making everything worth it." - Cooper

Noah: Miles’ best friend and Griffin’s brother

Miles’ brother Sawyer is badly injured after Sawyer challenges the Pecan Pines Pack Alpha. Sawyer asks Miles to contact his best friend Cooper for help. Cooper had left the pack ten years previously after being defeated in a challenge against the Pecan Pine’s Pack Alpha. During those ten years Cooper worked hard to become second in command of Winter Valley Pack. Miles and Sawyer own and operate the bookstore at Pecan Pines.

There are several things I enjoyed about this book:

It’s longer than a novella.

More of a slow burn. Miles and Cooper don’t jump into bed on the first day, and suddenly everything’s roses, then it’s the end of the book. It has a nice steady pace.

Cooper doesn’t let anyone push him around. He doesn’t lose his temper and he isn’t a bully. He doesn’t let anyone push Miles around. Cooper thinks smart. He thinks ahead, about the consequences of his words and actions.

Miles and Cooper are both proactive about raising money and increasing the bookstore’s popularity to keep it afloat, which is has become crucial due to Sawyer’s medical bills; they don’t sit around hoping or waiting for something or someone to come along to get them out of financial trouble. They brainstorm ideas to raise money, they decide on the fundraiser activity, plan it and put it into action. Miles comes up with other ideas to make the store more popular.

The humour.

One of the highlights of the book for me is the fundraiser car wash for the book store. Cooper suggests renting equipment, including a pressure washer. Miles’ excitement over the pressure washer is hilarious: “A pressure washer? Those things are amazing. I saw this video once where they used one to clean off years of grime from a patio, and it was so satisfying to watch.”

The day of the car wash, Cooper delivers the pressure washer, and he tells Miles it’s one of the best pressure washers available. Miles’ eyes are popping with excitement. Quote:

I moved closer, my eyes wide with excitement as I took in every detail of the pressure washer. “It has a 2000 PSI pressure rating, a nozzle that can switch from low to high pressure, and an onboard detergent tank for easy cleaning.” I rattled off the features without taking a breath, my eyes never leaving the machine.

The pressure washer is only for the premium package. Miles doesn’t care if only one person chooses the premium package, as long as he gets to use the pressure washer at least once. Miles does get to use the pressure washer, which he found much more satisfying than he imagined.

Another hilarious moment at the book store is “Hot Guys At The Bookstore”, “Bookstore Boys In Tanks”, and “Readers and the Ripped”. I’ll say no more about that, you’ll have to read the book to find out what happens, but it is very funny.

CONS of this book: The editing is slightly above average. The bookstore doesn’t have a name.

I really enjoyed this book. I highly recommend it.

The start to Pecan Pines series so get comfortable because you won’t put it down until the last page has been turned. Mile’s brother Sawyer is badly injured after challenging the cruel pack alpha to try saving the pack their uncle which is their only other family is already in the hospital, so he calls Sawyer’s best friend Cooper. The same friend that left the pack after he lost to the same alpha some time ago but to save the pack and for Sawyer he will come back. Cooper and Miles developed something more than friendship before he left now that he is back and the moment they see each other their feelings are stronger than they were before but with the intimation of the alpha’s lookout wolves it is really hard to have anything add to that Cooper’s mix up feelings for his best friends little brother and we have something here but will they be strong enough to take out this cruel alpha, will the pack finely get to breath from the cruelty of the alpha, will they be honest with their feeling for one another, will he accept his feelings for his best friends little brother, and can they find happiness some where along the way?

This is the first book in the Pecan Pines series and I really enjoyed it. This is the story of Miles Brooks and Cooper Hayes. Miles a wolf shifter who works at the family bookstore. When his brother Sawyer is injured defending their uncle, he asks Miles to call his best friend Cooper for help. Cooper is an alpha wolf shifter who belongs to a different pack. He immediately returns home to help. Things have gotten back in Pecan Pines. Their alpha Ryder, leads through threats, violence and intimidation. He does not lead through respect. He has decided to make an example of Mile's family. But Cooper is there to stop that. Cooper and Ryder fought once, years ago. Cooper is no longer the young, excitable youth that he was. He is more than capable of taking Ryder on if he has to. This is their story. The book is well written and easy to read. I liked how Miles and Cooper supported each other. This is a great start to a new series.

'I was conflicted, torn between my duty to the pack and my love for Miles.'

I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. The story was exciting from the start as Miles' brother Sawyer is badly injured after challenging their cruel pack alpha, and with his uncle- their only other family- in the hospital, too, he calls Sawyer's best friend Cooper for help. Cooper left the pack years ago after losing a challenge to the very same pack alpha, but didn't hesitate to return for Sawyer, who was like a brother to him. I liked the way the relationship between Cooper and Miles developed, and even Cooper's hesitation over an attraction to his best friend's little brother. With the alpha's wolves constantly watching and trying to intimidate them, the story had a level of tension that kept me hooked. 5 stars

Exciting! Miles is struggling. His Uncle Ben is in the hospital and his brother, Sawyer is not a lot of help. Then Sawyer is injured while challenging their Alpha. Miles calls Cooper, Sawyer's best friend who 10 years challenged the Alpha and was defeated. Cooper is not the hothead impulsive young wolf he was then. He's now his Alphas' second in command. When Sawyer meets Miles again, he reconizes his mate. Now he has a lot more at stake during his return to Pecan Ridge. There is a lot of tension and unresolved issues. We learn more about what the Alpha has been doing in Pecan Ridge and none of it good. Fel, does her usual giving us good characters and loyal supportive friends while giving us an evil that makes our hands stand on end. Nicely done. Great cover art! "Even though stepping out of my comfort zone scared me, it also excited me in a way I hadn’t felt in a long time."

This is the first book in a new series, Pecan Pines, by the writing duo of Fel Fern and Kara Kitt. I really love these two authors' books and when I saw this book 1 in a new series pop up on Booksprout, I couldn't wait to read it.

An alpha torn between his pack and his need to protect his friends from his past pack's Alpha.

This is a sweet story with a bit of angst. Be sure to pick up the bonus story, Car Wash, when you're done.

Older brother's childhood best friend, fated mates, bullying, a bad pack Alpha up to no good, glitter, pigs-in-a-blanket, where are the hot guys

After ten years Cooper is back in Pecan Pines, the first since his father’s death and his defeat by Ryder. His friend Sawyer is in the hospital after challenging the pack leader Ryder. Miles who is Sawyer’s brother called him at his brothers request. Cooper who is now a member of the Winter Valley pack came at once. First I have to say the authors have got another wonderful series starting with this book. You have danger, drama, shifters, romance and steam. You also meet some very interesting characters both human and paranormal plus an ending that makes you smile.

A great wolf shifter story. Cooper left Pecan Pines ten years previously after failing to challenge Ryder for leadership. He is asked to return by his friend's little brother Miles as he has been hurt by Ryder and their Uncle has also been hurt. Their family is being targeted by Ryder. Cooper soon finds out Miles is his mate and is determined to help even though his new pack needs him. Miles and his brother own a bookshop which gets damaged by Ryder's people. Everything comes to a head and Cooper claims Miles as his mate. Highly recommended reading.

Surprises around the corner

This was a very sweet and fun little story with some sassy quirks. The author did a great job with such a short story, showing how love can Bloom in the strange places.
Miles and Cooper both knew each other from before.
But never did anything because Cooper didn't see miles other than a little pesky, little brother.

I enjoyed immensely and can't wait to read the next book in the series it was very smooth traseries, it was very smooth transitions between scenes. And very easy and quick to read

Nice shifter story - Cooper and Miles

This was a nice shifter story. It had low to mid-level angst, a decent storyline and engaging, if rather two dimensional, characters. The heat factor was a 1.5 out of 5 and the language a bit simplistic but it made its point. I think there were a lot of areas that could have been expanded on and a little more detail fleshed out. I'd almost rate this as a YA - young adult - because of a lack of detail and the way it reads. Not what I was expecting but I did finish it and wasn't completely unsatisfied.

This new book and start to a new series from these two authors was sadly a bit of a let down for me.
Some parts of the book felt rushed and like they were trying not to have any real sexual chemistry between the characters, which is a stark difference from fel ferns previous works he has written on his own.

While it was an ok read I am unsure if I would recommend this book over any of his other works.

WORTH FIGHTING FOR

PECAN PINES Book #1. This is an introduction to a new shifter series. Trouble in this pack is at an all time high. Miles is beside himself when his Brother loses a challenge to the current pack Alpha. This pack is being fueled by mismanagement and an incompetent bully. Cooper returns to check on his best friend and finds his mate. FEL FERN and KARA KITT pool their writing magic to bring exciting engaging stories to light. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!

When Mile’s brother gets beat up he does the one thing his brother asks and calls Cooper for help.
Cooper left ten years before when he challenged the alpha and lost. Now he is back to help his best friend. What he didn’t see coming was his best friend’s little brother.
Some angst from the lead alpha, sweet moments with the main characters and some fun secondary ones.

I enjoyed this story which was the first book in a new series Pecan Pines, I liked how Cooper came as soon as his best friend needed him and once he realised Miles was his mate he was determined to look after him, I was glad when Cooper defeated Ryder to take the lead alpha position and am looking forward to reading more stories from this series.

Find your mate, thrilling, right?

When Cooper answers Miles call for help he recognizes Miles as his mate. Miles and his family are in trouble. Enjoy how Cooper and Miles discover their new attraction to each, face many challenges, and still find time for steamy moments together!!!

where was the romance? the chemistry? the substance?
the sex scenes were so cold and perfunctory, there was less than a smidge of intimacy In this 'romance' book and the plot, while mildly interesting, had extremely low stakes
at no point did I fear for the MCs
this wasn't even trashy it was just bad

Cooper

I don't remember when I first started reading Fel Fern's books. But from the very first one to this one, and there's been many, I've never been disappointed by any book. I've loved each series I've read and have fallen in love with the Pecan Pines Series too. Cooper and Miles are the perfect couple to lead this pack into the future!

This is an interesting start to this new series. The way things are for Cooper and Miles helped to keep me invested in their story along with how the Alpha would be handled. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

WOW!! So Good!!

Well written story and well developed characters. Those are the most important attributes, to me, in a book. This one grabbed me and sucked me in! Kept me in right to the end! Can't wait for the next one!

A great start to the series. My only complaint is that it was never fully explained why Ryder attacked uncle Ben in the first place. Other than that I fully enjoyed reading this book.

Nice Read

This was a well written quick read with characters that were relatable. The pack dynamic were a little different than what I'm used to but that was good in a way. I'm curious how book 2will go.

Easy read with some action

Easy read. The previous comments about the lackluster sex scenes are correct, but I usually skim over those anyway. There was a little suspense and action. Just enough to keep my interest.
I’m looking forward to book 2.

Testosterone poisoning is real

Good story, but heavy on the "a man's gotta be violent and macho" notion, something I have personally rejected all my life. I appreciate the characters but not the value system that says you can only deal with a violent enemy by killing them.
