Velmi silná antologie! Splatterpunk jsem chtěla a splatterpunk jsem dostala, s příjemným přídavkem v podobě navážení se do všemožných českých vesnic. Neskutečně se mi líbilo, že autoři vytáhli české mytologické bytosti, český Fantom tým je parta skvělých lidí a Erben jakožto Lovec je odteď můj headcanon. Nejsem ani schopná říct své oblíbence, slabší kusy byly zřejmě eliminovány redakcí, jelikož do finálního výběru se nedostaly. Vřele doporučuji všem milovníkům drsných postav, zbraní, folkloru a krve.

3.5 stars, rounding up--I'm sure I would have liked it better if I spoke Czech or knew the culture, I was told ahead of time that a lot of the stories used puns/jokes that worked under that umbrella. I could tell that there were some odd expressions here and there that probably made more sense in the original language.

Still, there was an entertaining flavor to the setting and the stories, "Border Patrol" was probably my favorite.

I enjoyed this.collection of stories. The local monsters were interesting, but difficult to look up since I listened to the audio book, and apparently couldn't even come close to the correct spelling. I also enjoyed the different take on why government agencies suck.

Když jsem četl lovce monster, říkal jsem si jaké by to asi bylo, kdyby jejich působištěm byla Evropa, potažmo Česká Republika. Koneckonců ve čtvrtém díle nesoucím název Legie byla zmínka o lovcích z Evropy, například o Němcích či Polácích. Už tehdy jsem si říkal jací by byli lovci z našich končin. Díky antologii téhle antologii se to nyní můžeme dozvědět.

Jistě, mírná skepse byla na místě. Ovšem na vydaní se spolupodílel i Jakub Mařík, který sérii lovců překládá. Jistě mi dáte zapravdu, že překladatel je po samotném autorovi druhým člověkem, který zná jeho styl psaní nejlépe. Nedůvěra začala pozvolna opadat. Jak se s universem lovců poprali ostatní autoři?

Pojďme vzít povídku za povídkou a o každé něco málo říci. Antologii nezahajuje nikdo jiný než Larry Correia s povídkou Neprůstřelný. Ačkoliv rozhodně není nudná - přeci jen hon na neprůstřelného padoucha je něco co by nemělo nudit - trochu pokulhává na reáliích a zároveň máte pocit, jakoby ji spíchnul horkou jehlou.

…Sviť měsíčku sviť, ať mi šije niť… Jistě už tušíte, že Alex Drescher navazuje povídkou Vodník. Zaměřil se především na princip fungování lovů, což je rozhodně vítaný přístup.

Další povídka se odehrává v Brně a pochází z pera Kristýny Sněgoňové. Jaké to je, když už pro vás ve společnosti není místo, zavírají pobočku a vy skončíte ve školce? Tedy pardon, v dětské skupině. Aneb když monstrum vraždí monstra. A děti to opravdu nejsou.

Jak se do lesa volá… Jakub Mařík. Tak trošku nevím co vlastně říci. Je to jako číst Larryho. Humor, akce, vtip, vše přesně tak, jak má být.

Karel Doležal v Povídce sladké sny ukázal, jaké mohou být noční můry, a že jsou občas pořádně ujeté.

Na bývalého státního zabijáka Strašáka, který soupeří s bezhlavým rytířem, jenž likviduje jednoho mafiána za druhým, narazíte v povídce Otázka lačnosti a smrti Jakuba Hozy. Nudit se rozhodně nebudete.

Jiří Pavlovský v Procházce parkem zobrazuje jiný druh lovce. Lovce nevynikajícího svaly, ale přesto zatracenou dávkou odvahy.

Barák za všechny prachy z pera Michaely Merglové byla jedna velká jízda. Kdo by to byl tušil, že za vším zlem může stát něco tak... nevinného.

Navazující povídka Martina Paytoka Jak zacházet se strašidly je z prostředí skladiště Státní regulační služby. A jak všichni víme, vybavení státních služeb je na skvělé úrovni. Dávejte si pozor na balíček karet.

Hraničník Oskara Fuchse reflektuje konflikt lovců a monster z úhlu pohledu, který nebývá tak často zobrazován. Jaké to je být lovnou zvěří?

Celou antologii uzavírá František Kotleta s povídkou V souladu s přírodou. Brutální, krvavé, drsné… z Bruntálska pochází drsní chlapci.

Co říci závěrem? Jednoznačně nám mohou tuto antologii závidět Larryho fanoušci po celém světě. Výkvět českého urban fantasy v jednom svazku.

Čtivé, zábavné, drsné, snad až lehce filozofické… Martin Fajkus a Jakub Mařík se pustili do projektu, který rozhodně stojí za přečtení, a to nejen pro fanoušky Larryho a ostatních autorů, ale především pro fanoušky dobrého fantasy.

Český tím lovcov, ktorý vedie známy držgroš Libor, je hlavnou postavou aj v novej knihe. Desiatka autorov ho postavila do cesty tradičným príšerám z českých luhov a hájov, ale aj miest, hradov a zakliatych stavieb.

Hneď na úvod musím zložiť poklonu editorom zbierky. Martin Fajkus (o. i. šéfredaktor Pevnosti a v knihe technomág tímu Fantom) a Jakub Mařík (o. i. autor vynikajúcej military sci-fi o UTSS Salamis) udržali záprah s desiatimi ťahúňmi v pomerne priamej línii a neustále vo vysokej rýchlosti. Podobné antológie zo zdieľaných svetov mávajú kolísavú kvalitu, vždy je tam niečo slabšie a s trochou šťastia nájdete nejaký diamant. Táto zbierka je vzácne vyrovnaná, používa konzistentné reálie (tím Fantom, vládny Tajný európsky fond loveckých odmen a náhrad TEFLON), niektoré poviedky na seba dokonca priamo nadväzujú (Barák za všechny peníze + Jak zacházet se strašidly)...

Always nice to see another part of the Monster Hunter Universe, and producing a book based around Czech folklore and monsters, written by Czech authors (aside from one story by Larry Correia, the originator) and the local Monster Hunting company is an interesting idea.
The use of monsters that aren't part of the usual western conversation is pretty refreshing and the authors are decent, if a little hamstrung because translation is always an imperfect science and I couldn't read the book in the original Czech!
Equally that's where some of the problems lie – there are different social norms to those I'm used to, and I'm pretty sure there are lots of clever puns and allusions that are lost in translation or even because they don't chime with the western European/American reader. That having been said, the book provides a pleasant enough read and an interesting viewpoint on a genre that is largely American

Toto bola zábava. Jednoducho a prosto zábava. Nenápadný zborník skrýva excelentné poviedky, snáď okrem prvej. Tá je od samotného Correiu a smrdí debilným americkým prístupom k Európe a nedostatkom záujmu. Ten chlap si nedal ani dostatok námahy na to aby si našiel nejaké české monštrum a niečo si o miestnom folklóre naštudoval. Z celého kraja vidí akurát tak trdelník a orloj a námestie plné turistov. Fuj a hanba.
Ale zato ostatné poviekdz sú všetky do jednej skvelé. Ťažko vybrať favorita, ale ako kovaného metalistu ma veľmi potešili hejkalovia...
Slabá tu však nie je žiadna, a ak máte chuť na nefalšovaný akčný masaker a chcete vidieť nejakú tú miestnu legendu v akcii, určite po tejto zbierke siahnite.

Since I've caught up reading the Monster Hunter books I've been eagerly looking forward to the newest releases. So, when Larry Correia mentioned that this was now translated into English and available for purchase, I really wanted to read it. I was initially dismayed that it was only available for kindle.

I had trouble clicking with it. Sure, there were a few stories that stood out from the rest, but it was a challenging read for me. None seemed to capture the same magic and enthusiasm Correia seems to put in his stories. I began dreading returning to the book. That's never a good sign.

If you're a fan certainly check this one out, but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone as a beginning book to the series.

What the last two stories were not very interesting in my opinion, the rest of the book made for a fun read.

Makes me want to go back and listen to the whole MHI series again as it scratched that itch that I’ve had for more of this universe. I expected another Memoirs book but I’ll happily a collection of short stories about a newly introduced monster hunter squad.

While for me the best stories were The Call of the Forest and Sweet Dreams, others may be more for your fancy.

Hopefully this collection is enjoyed by the fans of MHI and many others that just love monster hunters of all sorts.

American who read the english translation.

Superb collection! If you enjoy the MHI universe, you will enjoy this. If you want to read about people in over their respective head[s], making good decisions, and somehow prevailing, this may be for you.

Enjoyable collection of stories from different perspectives. Nothing in this book changed my life, but it was fun* and certainly worth a read.

*Even the stories in the anthology which didn't quite resonate. Nothing bad, just ... not that.

Monster Hunter fan fiction. I'm not sure if it's something that's lost in translation, but although it reads like Monster Hunter, this collection is lacking in the magic that makes Monster Hunter great. This isn't so much a knock on this book itself, which is an assortment of subpar to mid stories from various authors, as an acknowledgement that making a fun easily-digestible urban fantasy novel with good action and humor is actually quite difficult,

Fantom wasn't the typical MHI book, but I really enjoyed reading MHI stories written by other authors. I've begun exploring some international authors the last few years, and getting a sense of cultural differences in their stories has been fun and interesting. All the stories in Fantom were good, written from the viewpoint of both Hunters and Monsters. Some of the stories, though I thought were exceptional.

Very cool collection. Love that so many guest authors came together to make this book. Kudos to Larry for giving them the opportunity to contribute to and continue building upon the universe. Excellent read and one I will visit again.

I didn’t know what to expect going into this one, anthology can be hit or miss, but this was great! I don’t think there was any story I didn’t enjoy about as much as Larry’s work.
Side note: the turnover rate at phantom is pretty astounding. It’s like the MHI bbq but on a regular basis.

Love the MHI series and monster slaying. Enjoy new monsters, or regional twists. The majority of the stories were strong enough to be standalone novels. I hope this can evolve into a series. Fighting off veela's perhaps?
