Rise, Champion. The Horde Awaits. After an unstoppable ascent through the Tower of Champions, Xavier has cemented his place as the True Progenitor of Earth by attaining the top leaderboard records on floor after floor.
Now he finds himself on the fifth floor, defending Queen Alastea and her castle from the infinite waves of the Endless Horde.
They say the Endless Horde can't be stopped—but Xavier has always been bad at listening.
Don't miss book 2 of the action-packed LitRPG Apocalypse Series by Todd Herzman, with levels, a detailed System, classes, skills, towers, loot, & everything you love about progression fantasy. It's perfect for fans of Defiance of the Fall, System Universe, and He Who Fights With Monsters!
The absolute insanity of Xavier's powers and his power gain do make for a fun -- though uninspired -- read. A strong protagonist is one thing, but when the character (repeatedly) shatters records and is the best _ever_ across all the universe and all of history, it does more than just strains the suspension of disbelief.
Unfortunately, Xavier isn't that interesting of a character and his powerset does seem to boil down to "kill lots of things impossibly quickly" and "endure beyond belief through luck and deus ex." The supporting characters -- Siobhan, Howard, Justin, and so on -- are interesting, however.
It's worth a read via KU, and I'll go on to the next book, but it's not likely a story I'd ever reread... KU read, yeah; purchase, not for me... Your mileage, of course, may vary.
Dropped a star due to a lot of typos and other errors such as word choice. Nothing that can't be figured out, but it pulls from the flow of the story. The book and its previous one could use at least another editing pass.
The books were interesting until the author fell into a rut of angst about his decisions, talking to the barkeep and repeat. The random ranger and psyco appearances don't help.
My main issue is that the Mc saddles himself with liabilities bro literally has no secrets and twice that has been used against him. It’s only reasonable at this point he holds a few cards to his chest. I don’t understand the logic
Good book, doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, like a reviewer, suggested, Nobody is left in eminent danger or literally hanging off a cliff. The reasons I did not give this book 5 stars or some issues I have with the MC and the authors, writing of him. The MC does not know how to tactically carry himself in a fight. I eat such as putting your back against the wall or surface, so you’re not surrounded. not looking in the system shop to see if there’s someway to unlock storage rings that he possesses. and leaving his party so far behind that why are they even in the book, that situation needs to be rectified. Besides that the story is excellent and the world building threads are great. There’s a lot of story that can come from this book and series and the second book is a better book than the first. Will go ahead and read the next book in the series. Give it a shot, you will probably like it as well.
Wow! Just! Friggen! Fun! And I loved every minute. Believe you/me I'm rarin' to dive head first into the next book! In Accidental Champion 2 we find our intrepid team of champions ready to take on the towers fifth floor and wow it's a doozy, to beat the challenge they hafta stop the first five monsters waves dead, and it's not gonna be easy with the horde headed straight at'em! But Xavier has other plans he's gonna put down the never ending Horde in it's entirety! 'Cause it turns out that the wave isn't infinite after all. Xavier is gaining strength and new found abilities! And with the strength he gained he's become overpowered, he was a hellerride, a nightmare incarnate, and something other! Now he's caught the eyes of a few powerful Denizen, really, really powerful Denizen, and although they haven't been able to interfere, they're slowly trickling down information that hopefully will help. So don't hesitate! Grab this pulse-pounding litRPG adventure.
This book should receive a 5 star rating except for the awful spelling and grammatical mistakes that kept popping up.
A lot of fun in this book; even the slow grind of the fifth floor wasn't nearly as boring as it could have been. Admittedly I still skimmed some paragraphs during that time, it was mostly kept interesting by the different aspects Xander concentrated on during the different waves.
How Xander got that lucky with his group's personality is beyond me; goes against the nature of most humans to watch one person grow stronger and stronger while they do not. And let us remember the amazing loot Xander gets that they don't even come close to.
However, I took exception with two aspects of this story. 1. Too much of the story theme seemed like a Corporate Management Affirmation Poster. "Always think positive!" "You only win if you think you are a winner!" etc., etc. I always LOATHED those rah-rah macho nonsense posters during my career. Heh! :-) 2. The author hints that he always loved fiction that involved the characters being wracked with guilt over difficult emotional, ethical or moral dilemmas. That may rock the writer's boat, but I am a VERY linear thinker. I always cauterize such thumb sucking and go straight from point A to point B, and the heck with the hand wringing. I am not very fond of entertainment fiction that gets cluttered up by such dithering for the protagonist.
Honestly, I was not happy with this book. Couldn’t believe that Mr. Todd spent 2 3rds of the book leveling up the MC. And how was the events really unconvincing in the end of invasion he was defending. Like he went after the leader. What prevented the rest of the army of taking over the castle. Come now!! Second issue, the hero complex persona the MC has. He didn’t not give any reason why he want to protect earth. Just to be a hero ?! Any way, I was disappointed but I will see the next book. And really hope that is a little bit better characters and events.
I really enjoyed this book. Granted there were a few very blatant grammatical errors, but surprisingly few considering most LitRPG books I read are rife with them. The book had a great pace, it wasn’t boring and most importantly to me, the characters grew and developed beyond what I had even hoped for. I was initially concerned for Xavier and his antisocial attitude, but now I am slightly concerned for Justin, although he is just a kid so eh. I think it’s refreshing how honest the author is with his characters motivations and emotions. He doesn’t try to make them perfect people and I love that.
Really enjoyed this book like lit RPG like the protagonist. He makes mistakes but they're not stupid mistakes. Their mistakes that anybody could have made that are not. Oh I need to have something to advance the plot and the characters too overpowered I'll have this happen. Mistakes? It's an interesting universe. Interesting Powers. Good characterization on all the characters, especially the main character. This is a very good book. Overall I continue. Am going to continue reading the series. I apologize for you with voice to text
Immensely enjoyed this book, the characters are not 2 dimensional but really only the MC is getting the character deep dive, as the other characters don’t get much attention. Hope the next book can spread the insights. The battles were intense but well written enough that they were not boring with massive spells cancelling each other out. I recently dropped a series as it fell into the trap of dull magic battles, where larger and more strangely named spells just fired back and forth.
Welp, this second volume continued the story from the previous book without any pause. So....if you enjoyed that book (which I did), you'll also enjoy this one (which I did). But, don't start with this book... Lol, this is one story you'll want to read in order.
The pace of the narration continues to be pretty quick, and I enjoy the pace of the leveling and the intrigue of the latter universe that is starting to pop up in the story. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
If you like overpowered, I mean really "OVERPOWERED" Accidental Heroes, then this series is for you. It's not just one thing that makes this serious great. When you add up his OP magic, the insurmountable Tower that needs climbing, the mind-blowing Multiverse, and of course his new friendships that he builds along the way. Well, let's just say book 3 has a lot to live up to. I just can't wait.
This is a solid second book in the series. Imagine if Jake from Primal Hunter actually had friends and human interaction. Imagine if he had character growth, morals, and was actually fighting for something other than just to get stronger. This is a great, well written series that I think will eventually be up there with the other greats in the genre.
This is turning out to be one of my favorite book series. Good action, moments where I really can't put the book down. No romance but I'm on the third book and that looks to be about to change. And a decent power set, with a good hero that looks very evil. This is a lot of fun to read if you like LITRPG stories. Well done!
Story is well paced and easy to follow along. This series isn’t bogged down by stat sheets as some tend to be in this genre. MC is likable and he learns fast from his mistakes. World and tower building is well balanced. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
The first part of the book, centered on a particular challenge in the "dungeon," is remarkably effective, well-paced, and suspenseful. The second half of the book is too focused, for my taste, on preparing for the next one. The universe of this series is well thought out. It's a pleasant read, with the main criticism being the monologues that are sometimes too long and not always necessary.
It's hard to explain the great balance of being super powerful yet still being able to fail and be defeated. Todd Herman does a great job of this in this series. I honestly can't wait for the next book.
I just don’t understand the time frame in this series…the tower of champions is 1000 floors long and in 2 books we’ve only made 10 so far…how long does this series plan to be lol. And that’s not even factoring in everything outside the tower. Loved the books though very enjoyable.
Can’t wait until the next book , please hurry. The characters started to really develop and the next big phase of this series was about to happen. It can go so many ways, and I believe this writer will do great things with this plot.
Excellent! ! Can't wait for the next volume to drop. 2 more weeks
Lost 2 stars for NOT writing a Recap.
I think every reader needs to start doing this to force authors to write a quick Recap chapter, which readers can skip if they remember, and those who don't won't stop reading the series.
So on to book 2 in the series. Xavier has really advanced and continues to be on point to be Earths progenitor. After seeing how the Tower works the team is changing how it all should go. Xavier is making everyone stronger. So after going against the Endless Horde he is ready for anything.
The second book in the series is much more intense. Xavier and team are really trying their best to ensure Earth has a chance with challenging other planets. Level up! And they do try to keep on getting those sweet rewards.
Still good but… was not expecting how long the endless horde to take as long as as it did and while he himself is progressing fast I don’t think we need to be focusing so much on tower floors when he can basically just waltz through them all. Hoping that earth proves a good part of this series.
Keeps things rolling along and entertaining, for sure! If you liked the first one I don't think you'll dislike this one. Can't wait for book 3, keep them coming!
