Has her husband really left her? Or is someone playing a deadly game?

When Eva’s husband Samuel doesn’t come home from a boys’ night out, she thinks he’s sleeping off his hangover at a friend’s house. So she waits. And waits...

Eventually, he sends her a text – he’s met someone else and needs a few days to get his head together. Eva is devastated. How could he do this? How could he do it to their children? She’d thought her marriage was rock solid.

She tries to go on with her life as best she can. But then things take a truly bizarre turn…

She receives a terrifying photo of Samuel with a knife to his neck, and a demand: do everything on my bucket list or he will die.

As Eva completes the increasingly crazy demands on the kidnapper’s bucket list, every aspect of her life begins to unravel: her children are struggling, she’s not paying attention at work, and her friends and family fear for her mental health. All the while, the threats are mounting. Samuel will die. Unless…

Can Eva save her husband and children or will she lose everything that’s dear to her?

This book wins the award for intense twistiness! The dual POVs from the wife and the lover kept me hooked. The bucket-list plotline? Pure genius!

Evie's husband vanishes, and she starts getting messages saying he's been kidnapped. The kidnapper gives her a bucket list to complete. What a plot!

The big reveal about the kidnapper's identity? My jaw literally dropped! Big thanks to Netgalley and Inkubator Books for this awesome read!

This is about the third book I’ve read by this author, and I can honestly say her books are getting better; she is fast becoming a favourite author of mine.

The plot of this story had me hooked within a few chapters. Samuel and Eva have been married for fifteen years and have two beautiful children, Riley and Alfie. After having a much-needed girls' weekend with her friends, Eva is looking forward to seeing her husband and kids. She gets home in time to pick the kids up from school and hear about all the fun things they got up to with their dad on the weekend. Samuel was going for a few drinks after work, but Eva guessed he wouldn’t be too late. As the hours ticked by, Eva became quite tired and thought she’d head to bed as she would probably wake when Samuel got home.

The next time Eva was to hear from her husband was through a text message which turned  Eva’s life upside down. And from here the story becomes very intriguing and you know that things are not as they seem. The mystery and the not knowing that surround this story eventually become clearer, and the reader is left speechless. I love a good twist and this book delivered a well-thought-out twist that I didn’t see coming. Highly recommended.

I have been reading this author for a while now, but I have to say, the twists in Every Breath You Take got me good! I thought I knew exactly how it would all play out and I was so very wrong… well played Miranda , well played.

This is a fast-paced mystery that I just could not put down. I read it in 2 sitting, needing to know what on earth would happen next. Eva thought everything as going well in her life and marriage, until her husband doesn’t come home after a night out with the boys. Next thing she knows she gets a text to say that he has met someone else and is leaving her. This is just the beginning of the drama. She is soon doing things she thought she never would, making everyone around her, including the police, believe that she is having a breakdown.

Get ready for a wild and crazy ride with this one . So good!!

Wow! This is the first thriller in a long time that shocked, surprised, and gripped me from start to finish. When the first mind-boggling twist occurred I thought I knew exactly where the plot was heading. I couldn't have been more stunned and pleasantly surprised by all the twisty wickedness. Bravo Miranda! I never in a million years could have predicted what happened in this addictive, original, and extremely entertaining thriller. Thank you NetGalley and Inkubator Books for my copy.

Miranda Rijks + Tamsin Kennard = Fabulous Audiobook

(Please check my math!)

It's always a special treat when a go-to author pairs up with an outstanding narrator.

This pacey and intricately plotted audiobook was well-written, refreshingly different, and unputdownable.

I especially enjoyed how this husband abduction thriller unfolded from the two POVs of "Wife" and "Lover".

Replete with many red herrings, the book's double-twisted ending was gasp-worthy yet required a huge suspension of disbelief.

As usual, Tamsin Kennard's narration was brilliant.

I've read many books by Miranda Rijks because every now and then I need a book with a nice but not too complicated plot, interesting characters and a few surprises. The writing flows easily so it's not hard to finish a title in a couple of hours.

This one didn't disappoint either. We have a happy couple (Eva and Samuel), two children (one of each), a nice house, good jobs and no financial difficulties. And then suddenly everything goes wrong and Eva finds herself swept away in a most horrible nightmare. Only it's not the nightmare she's been having since almost drowning when she was thirteen, this is a real nightmare. Her loving husband Samuel disappears and the kidnapper wants to destroy Eva's life.

Needless to say everybody thinks Eva's gone completely mad and so she's left to her own devices when trying to solve the mystery, while having to work hard in her own company and trying to be a good mum to her children. The story is fast-paced with Eva driving to various locations and generally trying to not get absolutely mad - because her friends and family are not right in thinking she already is.

The big surprise and centre part of the plot is revealed a little to soon in the story. It's a big surprise but for me, it would have been an even bigger surprise if it was a little more spaced out. Now we read what it is all about, but just not the whole background. This background follows much later and feels a bit rushed. Therefore, three stars instead of four, but still, a very enjoyable book.

Thanks to Inkubator books and Netgalley for this review copy.

3.5/5

If you like quick reads with a lot of shock value this is the book for you.

The book alternates between Eva’s point of view and the kidnappers point of view. There are a lot of twists and turns in the book. The ending is great.
It is hard to watch Eva be gas lit by her friends and the kidnappers insane demands. I think that’s why I gave it a 3.5 because I hate seeing the gaslighting in books especially to moms.

Overall, a quick and good read. The ending won’t disappoint.

Every Breath you Take is my very first ready my Miranda Riijks and I loved it! Told by two points of view, from "the Wife" and "the Lover", yes please! But who is the lover? And what kind of game are they playing?

After 15 years of what you think is a pretty great marriage that produced two beautiful children, imagine your husband goes out for the night with the boys and then sends you a late night text saying he's met someone else and is leaving you? By TEXT! Could you imagine? Then you start to get snapchats from a stranger threatning your husband's life and tasking you with proving you are moving on without your husband or else he dies!? 🔪 Absolutely bonkers, right? Do you play along? Or do you go to the police and risk your husband getting the ax? And what would your friends and family think of you if you started to "move on" with someone else after only say, 3 weeks of your husband being "missing"? Are YOU crazy or what in the batsh*t crazy h#$% is actually going on?????

Ok, sounds predictable, right? Yeah, NOOOOO!

Hold on because, wait, there's more!!!

I absolutely loved this book and it was a super fast and twisty (like a warm fresh-out-of-the-oven pretzel🥨) read that I coud NOT put down!

Just go get it, you'll thank me later!

You're welcome!

5🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

I have read several novels by Rijks, and loved them, BUT this is her best yet.

Eva’s family is tested when she gets a text message. Her husband Samuel went out last night and did not show up by morning. This is very unusual for him. The message appears to be from a kidnapper and wants her to complete a bucket list to save her husband and children.

I love how this novel has alternating chapters between The Wife & The Lover.

So many possibilities for the reasoning behind the kidnapping. After all, Eva is rich and her husband’s business is thriving.

The bucket list is very strange. It’s not your typical bucket list, which of course had my mind spinning at each bizarre request.

This one will have you guessing the motives behind the abduction down to the last chapter.

If you looking for a crazy plot which will have you reading late past bedtime, THIS is the novel

OMG what in the world was this crazy wild ride of a book?! This one was messed UP and let me tell you, I LOVED IT!! When Miranda reached out and asked if I would read and review her newest I instantly said yes, because I love her books, there was no question I would. However, I did not expect to be BLOWN AWAY by this one! It is my new favorite of hers, and y’all there were a couple of moments I was like wait WHAT? Did I just read that right? And I had to go back and reread to catch the subtle reveal that she slid in there. And yes, I had read that right and was shook. Oh but she was not done folks, there was yet another doozy that was waiting, and I was on the floor.

This one came out on July 14th, please make sure you add it if it is not already on your radar, you will absolutely love it! Oh, and make sure to go in blind, which is why I’m being a little vague here but it is worth it. Well done Miranda, I loved this one SO much!!

Every breath you take was my first book by the author. Honestly this book had potential, which I personally feel is wasted. The language is just plain, dull and simple that it makes reading a quite painful experience. The conversations between characters are poor and wouldn't make sense or feel realistic. Like if you are angry with your best friend, won't you be telling them to their face or atleast there will be that repressed anger conveyed. But here the characters behave like they are acquaintances or strangers. That's not how family or friends behave.

The main protagonist is the most annoying character. All the characters are one dimensional, the poor writing doesn't give any depth to the drama that unfolds. The plot is intriguing which kept me going otherwise I would have left the book in the starting few pages itself. But the plot too had so many loopholes that it made it impossible not to roll my eyes at the absurdity of the situation.

The reveal was good but then the incidents that happened previously in the book made no sense, they shouldn't have happened or they are just written to make the reveal shocking. It lost the charm. I don't want to give away any spoilers, the end reveal was good too but again same thing. I don't write bad reviews unless and until books are really poor, this book really was bad.

If mystery thriller is the genre you like there are better written books out there. This book just did not work for me.

Thank you Netgally and inkubator books for the ARC in exchange of an honest review.

Every Breath You Take is a wild ride that will make you question her sanity and your own. I loved this book, it kept me engaged, wanting to scream at Eva, and questioning everything. Just when you think you got it nailed you're wrong.
Eva and Samuel are happily married with two kids, until one night Samuel doesn't return after a night out with the guys. Fearful she calls the cops to report him missing, but when they chalk it up to a grown man sleeping off a wild night or one that has decided to leave his family she insists they are wrong. Soon after though she receives a message from him later saying he has met someone and needs to get his head on straight she is forced to face the truth. But hold on because this ride is far from over, she then receives another text that he has been kidnapped and if she wants to save him she can't contact the police but must complete this bucket list of sorts. Which she does, until the requests become so insane that it leaves everyone questioning her mental state, and when she can no longer comply she must again seek the police for help.
This was a great thriller that left my head spinning, and even when I thought I figured it out, I was wrong. Face paced and mesmerizing, I can't wait to check out more books by Miranda Rijks.

My first read by @mirandarijksauthor and this will NOT be my last. A deadly game of cat and mouse is a go to for me. Alternating POVs between the wife, Eva, and the lover. Eva’s husband goes missing after a few drinks with his buddies but Eva is certain something nefarious is happening. The lover has a plan to get what they want and bring Eva to her knees.

A binge worthy read that will have you empathizing with Eva and so frustrated with everyone around her, you cannot stop reading until the end !!

Thanks to Netgalley for an early copy to review! Unfortunately, having loved Miranda Rijks’ other novels, this one was a miss for me. There was a good amount of build up and suspense, but the payoff was weak, and there didn’t feel as though there was enough nuance to the characters. The twists weren’t surprising, and the “don’t believe this crazy woman, are you sure you don’t need therapy darling” trope was a little tiring for me. I’d go with the Godchild or the Homemaker before this one - those were excellent! Thanks again to Netgalley for an early copy in exchange for an honest review.

Eva’s husband, Samuel, goes out for a boys night. When he doesn’t come home, she thinks he is nursing a hangover. But when he doesn’t respond to texts and never shows up at home, she’s worried. She calls the police to file a missing persons report. Then she gets a text from him – he’s left her for someone else. She’s very confused. Then she gets a picture of Sam with a knife to his neck that says to complete the items on the bucket list or he dies. Convinced he is kidnapped, she begins to do the things that the kidnapper tells her to do. As she is doing these things, her life begins to unravel. Friends and family thinks she needs mental health help, she’s slacking at work, and she is neglecting her kids. Can Eva save her husband?

Rijks has such an amazing talent for these thriller books. I’m so glad that I was introduced to this author because Rijks is now on my must read list of authors. This book is told in two different points of view, Eva and “The Lover.” So of course I began trying to guess who the lover was, and man was I way off. We find out who it is towards the middle of the book. What is mysterious after that is the why, and whether Eva can save Sam; can she figure out who the lover is?

True of all Rijks’ books, this was gripping and thrilling, a true page turner. I just enjoy her style of writing so much because it’s so easy to read. The plots are always interesting and hard to guess. And this one is no different. The end.. That end.. I need someone to read this so we can discuss!!! That was an end I didn’t see coming from a mile away!!! Brava to Rijks on another super successful book!

When Eva’s husband fails to come home from drinks with his friends she is instantly worried, a couple of days later receiving a text to tell her he is in love with someone else. A distraught Eva tries to hold things together for their children Riley and Alfie but she receives a picture message with a knife to Samuel’s neck and ordered to keep him alive by completing tasks on a bucket list without telling the police or friends.

This is a twisty book with plenty of surprises, and all that kept going through my mind was “oh my god, imagine?” The thought of being in Eva’s situation is shocking and scary. Forget what you think about this book because trust me when the ending lands the unexpected is exactly what happens. Bravo!

I have read and loved all of Miranda's thrillers, but this one is her juiciest and most jaw dropping yet!

Eva and Samuel have a great marriage. So when he goes silent during a night out with the boys, she doesn't think anything of it. When he's not home in the morning, however, she's concerned. After several frantic hours, she receives a text from him stating that he's fallen in love with someone else and will contact her in a few days regarding the kids. Stunned doesn't even begin to describe how Eva feels, but then the situation turns darker.

She receives a photo of Samuel with a knife to his neck and a demand: 𝒅𝒐 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒃𝒖𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒕 𝒐𝒓 𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒅𝒊𝒆. Eva finds herself at the mercy of whoever is behind the screen as the demands become more and more bizarre. Who is behind this madness? Is someone in her inner circle laughing behind her back as they execute the worst betrayal a friend is capable of? Has she been targeted by a stranger or someone from her past?

Told from alternating points of view, The Wife and The Lover, when that twist hit, it was wholly unexpected, and I had to read a few lines twice to be sure. And just when I thought I had everything figured out, she got me again. Well played! Thank you so much to Inkubator Books for the early copy. This title will publish July 14, 2024.

I had a love-hate relationship with this book, and I think that is intended by the author as the main character is both likeable and annoying!

After her husband fails to come home after drinks with a friend, he sends his wife a text to say he has met someone else. But then Eva gets another message with a picture of a knife to her husbands throat... she has to do whatever the kidnapper asks or her husband will die. Soon, everyone thinks Eva is having a breakdown as her actions become increasingly erratic.

We find out who is behind the plot midway through the book. I think I would have preferred that this was dragged out a little further as there are some good suspects lined up. However, I enjoyed the twists and turns. I liked the dual points of view of Eva and the kidnapper as it gave a sinister feel, and we got to see what the deeper motivation was.

I enjoyed the writing and pacing of the book. It is a quick read that had me turning the pages. My only gripe is how the main character handled the situation, but as I said at the start, I feel this was done intentionally by the author to create tension and frustration!

With thanks to the author and Netgalley for providing a copy of this book. This is my honest opinion, which I'm leaving voluntarily.

WHOA!!! This book was so suspenseful! I stayed up late reading this until I fell asleep with my kindle in my hand. The next morning, I woke up early to finish it. Talk about INTENSE! There were so many twists that I didn’t see coming. I loved everything about this book. This one of my fave books so far this year.

The suspense building in this novel is *chef’s kiss*! I was on pin and needles waiting to see what would happen. The buildup had me so anxious. The author did a great job building up to the extremely shocking end of this story. This book is told from dual POVs - the wife and the lover. The plot was well developed and I really enjoyed the pacing of this book. I felt that the characters were fleshed out well, as I truly felt that the paranoia Eva felt was palpable. I was really rooting for Eva. I was so curious to know who the lover was and when I found out, my jaw dropped and I just sat there for a minute. Even towards the ending when I thought I knew how the last few chapters of the book would play out, there were more twists and turns that caught me off guard.

For my domestic thriller lovers, read this book!

Well done! My jaw literally dropped. And the way the twist was presented..(chef's kiss).

This follows Eva whose husband goes missing randomly with no trace. Once she starts receiving mysterious messages asking her to complete odd tasks in order to keep her family safe and to ensure her husbands safe return making everyone around her question her sanity. Eva can't go to the police, she cannot tell her family and friends, so when she stumbles upon a clue as to who has her husband she starts her own investigating. Will she ever find her husband? Who can she trust?

This would be perfect for people who are into the tropes of a missing person, stalker, toxic friends, fearful protagonist, anyone could be the psycho, blackmail, kidnapping, framed, and unassuming villan. This has it all. If you liked The Chain, where the plot is intense and anyone could be kidnapper, then you will love this.

Thank you NetGalley, Miranda Rijks, and Inkubator Books for allowing me to review.

I say it with every book of Miranda’s but this is probably my favourite. This book had so many twists it was brilliant.

As with all of Miranda’s books I'm hooked from page 1, they pull you in and do not let you go until the very end.

I had no idea which way the book was going and nor did I see the ending happen. Another amazing 5⭐️ read.

This is my second novel from Miranda and I have read so many great reviews but honestly I don’t feel the same way.
This is a story that is told in 2 points of views. One is the wife the other the lover.
I found it to be kinda boring. The lover wants the wife to do a bucket list of things to “save” her husband. But the lover has no intention of letting him go. They any you to think the wife is loosing her mind.
Yes the twist in the end is interesting but I really just don’t get it.
I don’t think that Miranda’s novels are right for me unfortunately. But I’m happy so many others enjoy them.

This story is told by two points of view, the wife and lover. The wife’s husband is held captive by the lover and a bucket list needs to be completed or he is dead along with their kids. The suspense is there until the lover is announced as SPOILER……….. her very own brother. Uhh what?! This is some Jerry Springer stuff right here. Not sure why those details weren’t held. Once you know who the lover is, the book went downhill for me. Your queer brother has had a thing for your husband all along. Rejected him at his first advance but somehow years later they fall in love and want to be together. I didn’t understand the part of them working together on the bucket list. If they did, why was the husband sad when her brother showed him the pictures. Didn’t make any sense. I’ve enjoyed Miranda’s novels up until this one. It felt like these captive in the woods have been done too many times and not a fan of books turning husbands gay. It’s just not my thing and turns into a dead end for me.

The story is told from the point of view of the wife and the lover, and I found myself engrossed in it until the last page. I have always liked Miranda’s previous works, and the writing in this novel is equally as good. Filled with excellent plot twists, including the final twist in the middle of the story, the ending was still shocking to me. I recommend this to all thriller lovers!

Twisty, fast-paced thriller with an original plot. I'm not a huge fan of stories about gaslighting b because they make me anxious, but this author creates plots where you have to find out what is going on! Eva has a happy life with her husband Samuel and her two children Riley and Alfie. She also has a great circle of friends and a job running a family charity. One night her husband goes out for a drink with a friend and never comes home. The action is off and running pretty quickly in this book as Eva receives strange texts followed by a picture of her husband with blood on his face. She is informed her husband has been kidnapped and she will need to complete a ''bucket list' of items in order to get him back.

Eva's friends, older brother and mother think she is having a nervous breakdown as she does odd things like cut off all her hair and go on a dating app. I felt a lot of frustration that Eva didn't confide in her friends, hire a private detective or find ways to document what was happening to her. Part of the novel ties in to an old fear of Eva's from when she was a child, but it wasn't tied in enough to make a difference in the story. I didn't guess the main twist and it didn't make sense to me based on what we knew about Eva's life before the kidnapping. I think this one was a fast read with some exciting parts but the plot didn't always make sense. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this ARC for review.

SYNOPSIS
- Eva’s husband, Samuel, doesn’t come one night. Eventually, he sends her a text telling her that he’s leaving her for someone else.
- Eva is devastated. They have two kids, and she’s trying to hold it together. Suddenly, she receives a picture of Samuel with a knife against his neck. Eva is given a series of demands to guarantee Samuel’s safety.

MY THOUGHTS
- Two POV’s (the wife and the lover).
- It was an interesting set up, and I enjoyed it.
- A little over the top in some ways, but I liked a lot of the twists and turns.
- Well written.

TL;DR: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️interesting set up. plotted well + good build up + well written. a bit over top. enjoyable. liked the twists.
