BOOK 1: THEIR LAST WORDS A young woman is found dead on the streets of London with one word carved into her DON’T. Then another body is discovered. Another word cut into the victim’s chest. DS Paterson suspects this twisted serial killer is trying to send them a message . . .
BOOK 2: THE LOST CHILDREN An elderly man is found dead in the street, shot through the head. Dumped in a waste bin next to him is the dismembered torso of a child. DS Paterson and DI Clocks know who committed the murders. Finding the killers wasn’t the hard part. Bringing them to justice is.
BOOK 3: THE BURNING MEN Davey Caine, the heir to a criminal empire, is burnt at the stake in a London park. Detectives Paterson and Clocks find themselves trying to control men who have no fear of the law and its consequences and who are unafraid to kill anyone who stands in their way — including police detectives.
BOOK 4: YOU CAN’T HIDE Albert Tanner, vicious psychopath and burner of men, is in the USA with unfinished business. Detectives Paterson and Clocks must hunt Tanner down and bring him home — their own way.
BOOK 5: THEIR DYING BREATH Detectives Paterson and Clocks attend the scene of a brutal murder on the banks of the River Thames. The next day the airwaves are hacked. Three men are murdered on live TV, two more will die within hours. Paterson and Clocks race against time to make sure their next breath isn’t their last.
BOOK 6: CHILD BEHIND THE WALL A police squad descends on a house, but nothing could have prepared them for what they find. They see the body of a man with a knife in his chest and a bloody mess where his face should be. Nearby stands a small, thin woman. In her hand is a kitchen knife. But what is bricked up behind the wall is far, far worse.
BOOK 7: HIS MOTHER’S BONES Judge Christine Lord is tethered to a court roof. Her ribs are splayed, her lungs lifted out, in an ancient Viking ritual known as the Blood Eagle. Performed while the victim is still alive. And now someone else has been left like this. The dead man is someone with very close ties to Detectives Paterson and Clocks.
BOOK 8: DEAD ON DELIVERY A motorcycle courier jumps a red light and is mown down by an oncoming car. Killed on impact. Detectives Paterson and Clocks arrive at the scene. Large plastic boxes are scattered around the body. The detectives take a closer it’s one of the worst things they’ve ever seen. And they’ve seen some very bad things.
On the whole, I enjoyed all the books. They had good story lines and lots of twists & turns. At the beginning I took to both Paterson & Clocks, but by Book 7 I was getting a bit fed up with them. As police officers, they were totally unbelievable. So unprofessional and disrespectful. By Book 8 I couldn't wait to finish the set, not because I couldn't wait to see what happened at the end, but because I couldn't stand Clocks anymore! He was so coarse, so vulgar, so violent. It has put me off reading any more with him in it.
THEIR LAST WORDS The book starts with a gruesome murder and zooms along at a very fast pace with plenty of action and insight into the characters along the way. Very human characters and Steve has skillfully managed to build curve balls into the characters as well as the story. The end result is an adrenaline pumping page-turner that I couldn't put down.
THE LOST CHILDREN What we have here is a complex story with many strands and the reader is taken on a rocky road trip to watch all the strands become entangled with Paterson and Clocks working their way through the spaghetti to find out what is actually going on. Corruption, witchcraft, cover ups and money laundering are just a few we can add politics and culture into the mix and sprinkle a vigilante soldier on top and you can be assured you have one hell of a wonderful read.
THE BURNING MEN The story begins with a man being burned alive. He is soon revealed to be the son of a gangster and so begins a war to gain control of the London underworld. Paterson and Clocks are not amused and set out to bring an end to the violence by whatever means they see fit. Humour, corruption, drugs, violence, twists, turns and curve balls this book has it all. An absolutely brilliant read that ticked all my boxes.
YOU CAN'T HIDE The story begins as they board a plane to New York chasing Albert Tanner following a turf war in book 3. Clocks had me laughing before he had got off the plane. They arrive at JFK airport and the action starts with a chase followed by explosions. It is game on and everyone is in danger. Will they catch Tanner or lose their lives? This is an absolutely gripping read that I couldn't put down.
THEIR DYING BREATH The story begins with a body found on the banks of the Thames. It appears the man was buried up to his neck and left to watch the tide come in until he drowned. Then the airwaves are taken over by a live feed of a man in a box and the team is in a race against time, literally, to try to find where the box is buried before it is too late. This is an absolutely awesome read it is a while since I have enjoyed a book so much. It probably isn't for the faint hearted but if you are a reader that likes adrenaline pumping suspense from the first page to the last then this book is definitely for you.
CHILD BEHIND THE WALL A burglary is reported and the Police attending stumble into a horrific scene which they certainly weren't expecting but when Paterson and Clocks arrive they find the devastation in the bedroom is not the only horror to be found in the house. The investigation takes the team many miles as they try to work out what is behind the manic behaviour. An absolutely gripping read that had me turning the pages all the way to the adrenaline pumping ending.
HIS MOTHER'S BONES A gruesome murder is just the tip of the iceberg as more bodies turn up murdered by very weird and barbaric methods will this dynamic duo be able to find out what links the cases? An absolutely stunning read that I couldn't put down additional interest is brought in to the mix which adds another dimension to what is already an outstanding book
DEAD ON DELIVERY The fun and mayhem begins with the death of a Motorcycle Courier who was transporting organs for transplantation when he dies in a RTA and Paterson and Clocks are called in when it becomes clear there are more body parts than there should be. It soon becomes clear there is an organ trafficking ring at large. As the investigation gets under way it soon becomes clear that what our favourite detectives are uncovering is so much more than just people selling a kidney here and there. As the 2 men set off for France they leave a trail of mayhem behind them for someone else to deal with. From France to India and back to France they will not stop until they catch the sadistic murderers who are preying on the desperate. Another adrenaline pumping read.
Sensational villains, spectacular crimes, and morally ambiguous heroes.
The books have their flaws, and there's quite a lot that's quite farfetched, but Paterson and Clocks can be hilarious. The latter's creative use of profanity and cockney slang is somehow endearing, and we can understand why he's so beloved despite being so obviously a giant ass. We're just happy he's in books and we don't have to deal with him in real life. As my father said about Garfield, "I absolutely love him, but if he were my cat, I'd hate his guts."
Not for sensitive stomachs, as some descriptions of extreme violence are fairly graphic, but I assume most of those who come looking for murder mysteries are not thusly afflicted.
There aren't enough words to describe this box set.
First, may I thank Mr Steve Parker, for being brilliant, awesome, incredible and the best story teller and wordsmith. To say I enjoyed these books doesn't cover it. I've laughed out loud, learnt things that I would have never known existed, thank you for that, I will bleach my eyes later !!! I never thought I'd find an author of this calibre just tucked away on kindle. It's been a joy to read, and I hope there are more books that I can read. And no, I want the books to end.
I'm a bit gutted that I've finished the books. Some of the stories were gruesome but the light hearted laugh out loud Johnny Clocks off set that. Paterson as the more serious one of the duo is slowly going to the dark side, with the things he's seen and can't unsee. He's been attacked by maniacs, lost the love of his life and has been pulled back from the brink of insanity by Clocks. Would definitely recommend, although these books are not for the faint hearted.
Patterson and Clocks are the epitome of opposites. They complement each other and Clocks promotes laugh-out-loud response. The various situations and characters explored in the books were impressive and sometimes appallingly evil. The justice theme prevails throughout, though. My only criticism is that there is an overuse of the "f-word". Surely an author of Parker's ability could use more creative descriptive expression.
Great characters into action that just don't quit. Really sad that I came to the end of the an of series. Hope Mr. Steve Parker decides to create a few more cases for these two detectives to solve or perhaps they could join up with their buddy All for some more international activities. LOVED EVERY SECOND.
Clocksy’s language took me back to my youth. It was foreign to his fellow characters but I understood every word. Difference is I was brought up in East London. The things that him and Paterson got away with were far fetched but added to the characters. I couldn’t put the books down and sad they have ended.
Liked the series, they are an unlikely pair, the golden boy and the boy out of the slum area trying to do right. They team up as detectives to serve up justice in their own weird way. You just never know what they will do next, and how they are going to do it.
Well that’s 8 books read and 8 books enjoyed, all the books I thought were brilliant and I really enjoyed the characters I could have quite easily have read another 8 books. The authenticity of parts of the storylines are a bit suspect but I put that down to old school fiction writing at its best thank you Steve Parker for writing these books
I didn't think that I would read the eight books as the first one was a bit more gory than what I usually read, but I found that I wanted to know what happens with the main guys. There were some shocking detailed murders, which made you want the bad guys dealt with. Good reads nether the less.
Every book was so different and the dialogue flowed with humour and intrigue. Love love loved the characters, although I think it I was amazing that somebody (Ray) hadn't clocked his colleague and buddy John Clocks. Must have a look and see what other books Steve Parker has written. Couldn't recommend them enough.
Brilliant book set Timex had me in tears with his sense of humour such a great character. Paterson went from being a toff to borderline sociopath. Brilliant storylines great characters. I would definitely recommend these books to anyone who reads crime books. They would make great tv.
These books were very addictive no sooner you read one you had to start on the next it's left me feeling what I'm going to read next I thoroughly enjoyed them although a bit body and very graphic they are good.
The plot(s) were very good and always leaving room for speculation. Always looked forward to the time when I could devote to the books, which always turned out to be more than it should have been with other things being put on hold until I finished the stories.
Absolutely fanastic books from the first book till the last book , very entertaining read and unbelievable how the two police work together hopefully there’s more books to read
Brilliant they make a great pair of Detectives, Clocks is so funny and the stories are very interesting really enjoyed reading hope there is more to come
Absolutely brilliant, steve parker is the best author i know, he brings the boys to life, you laugh, cry, get emotional, everything, would recommend everyone reads these books
