Holy Vulnerability

Rate this book
What does it mean to be vulnerable to God?

Vulnerability is something we find appealing - in other people. But when it comes to ourselves, we'll do almost anything to avoid becoming vulnerable. Why? Because being vulnerable implies we are unprotected, susceptible to injury. We are open to hurt.

"In this sense," Mike Flynn writes, "the use of the expression 'vulnerable' to God' may be thought of as inappropriate. God, who is completely trustworthy, is not one from whom injury should be expected. My own experience, however, is that openness to God often feels, sometimes seems, and may be, in fact, hazardous."

Flynn shows there is no one we can trust more than God, and that His prodding is always for out good. "I have come to embrace vulnerability to Him as an operative dynamic through which we grow."

Flynn chronicles many of his rich times with God - vivid personal experiences - as he has sought to become more open. Using a disarming, conversational style, he explores what it means to be vulnerable to Scripture, to discomfort, to spiritual warfare, to love, to forgiveness, to humility, to community, and more. He helps Christians move from a safe, sheltered faith to a more "dangerous," open and ultimately more rewarding relationship with God.

Found this so very readable and quite instructive in its call to living out your faith in Jesus. The author is a minister with much experience, stories he draws from as examples throughout. He is grounded in experience and the Word and most importantly in obedience to the Word of The Lord. I would read it again, there is more wisdom to glean!
