A mage. A knight. A destiny...

When the Orcs lay siege to the Eyre, Evalyn’s family are murdered, and she finds herself the last surviving heir to the kingdom of Arogath. She has no choice but to flee the only place she’s called home. With Felix, a sworn bodyguard by her side, she desperately seeks refuge.
It’s not long before Evalyn discovers the brutal lengths the Orcs will go to in order to expand their territory, and with her people’s lives at stake, she is forced to unearth a long since buried magic. As she grapples to control her volatile powers and fill the role of queen, enemies rise in all corners of the kingdom—some with carefully curated disguises. And they are much closer than she thought.
Despite it all, Felix remains a constant. Her childhood friend, her loyal protector. With a war raging around them, she finds herself falling for him. And the cost of saving her people from a terrible fate might just be her heart.

From September 10th, all editions will include a commissioned map of Arogath.

This is a great epic fantasy bodyguard and princess romance, a debut novel by Jodie Angell that should therefore not be ignored. Being the first book in a trilogy, this is both ambitious and a huge achievement. I was really drawn into the story through its promising premise. Ultimately, the story’s rushed events threw me off and unfortunately was not for me.
“My sword—my life—is yours, should you need it. I will stop at nothing to ensure you sit on that throne and take your place as queen. You will rule, and you will make this kingdom far better than those who preceded you. I know my place,” he paused, his throat bobbing as he swallowed. “But you haunt me, Evalyn.”

[ Contains some spoilers ]

PLOT SUMMARY
In the kingdom of Arogath, peace and prosperity cease with the overrun of Orcs. They are rumoured to be searching for someone from a prophecy said to be destined to rule the realm. King Atticus, uncle to Princess Evalyn, reveals that the Orcs are searching for her and she must hide. She is sent away with her bodyguard Felix, her childhood friend who once rejected her. They make for Lake Delendil, realm of the High Elves.

The realms of light are under threat of war from the Dark Triads (Orcs, Trolls, Dark Mages) and even the Ezen Riders. What’s more, the Dark Mages wield magic that allows them to use their higher conscious into intercepting another’s aura and manipulating the being into doing as the mages wish.

Being the sole survivor and new ruler of Arogarth, Evalyn must turn to the magical powers she has suppressed and find allies in all sorts of unusual places. From Oracles to Gnomes to fire magic-wielding Salamanders to Nereids to Goblin-like Krears, all band together to help the Queen. But there are traitors in their midst.

As time progresses and the longer they spend in each other’s company, Felix is drawn to Evalyn and she is drawn to him. But will their love, and rank, conquer all? And what if the prophecy is not quite as it seems?

OVERALL OPINIONS
This story is meant to be a reimagining of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, which is such an interesting and unique idea that has not been explored much (perhaps not even since the Witcher with the Wild Hunt). I like that they have been changed into women:
“During the time of the Noble Ones, the legend says that the Dark Mages conjured the Ezen Riders—four deadly women mounted on bears—to do their bidding. They encompassed all evil—the apocalypse—and were extremely powerful, an almighty force to combat.”

I also got Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 vibes when Evalyn protects the High Elves by conjuring stone soliders. Cue Professor MacGonagall’s “I’ve always wanted to use that spell!”

Indeed, I really loved the whole concept of this story but because the pacing was so fast, the deeper connections to the characters were lost. From the very first chapter, I could tell things were moving very quickly. By page 12, her uncle reveals Evalyn is who the Orcs are looking for and she is already fleeing her home.

The relationship between Evalyn and Felix is secondary to the plot. I assumed this would be more of a central aspect of the novel. This felt like a waste. I did love them so much!

Initial books that set the scene and characters can sometimes have the tendency to either provide too much information or not enough. Here, the world-building felt poor as it lacked details and was thrown into the deep end with plots suddenly revealed but not explained. I think I would have liked a summary of things, like the history of the Noble Ones, the previous war, the current situation and how it was brought about.

My suggestion is that Angell fleshes this out more and splits this trilogy into more books. As I have indicated, though, world-building and storytelling is not an easy thing to do and I heartedly commend her on her efforts with this story. Overall, I feel like if I had been a teenager I would have enjoyed this far more than I do now. This was giving major Young Adult vibes though based on the sex scenes this is certainly meant to be an adult book.

<< Positives >>
🠚Having a dagger as the chapter header images (paperback version) was really cool! It alludes to what happens near the end of the book which is very subtle and clever. I liked this a lot!
🠚Again, I like that the book is called Crimson Kiss. It makes perfect sense as it is a major plot point that happens later in the story.
🠚Evalyn and Felix’s relationship that is covered is so lovely! The moments between them are so cute and funny. I did giggle whenever Evalyn broke stuff when they were lost in their passions, and when they splashed each other in the water.
🠚The spice was exquisite!
🠚The inclusion of so many creatures from mythology and general fantasy was spectacular! This included: High Elves, Gnomes, Centaurs, Undines, Nereids and Sylphs. I especially liked the Sylphs.
🠚The magical elements, like Evalyn training and mastering her magic powers. This was fascinating to read. I like that the Elves have this tradition of sending their dead into the lake. The description reminds me of The Lady of the Lake from Arthurian legends: “Pure white hands rose from beneath the still water and eased her body below the surface
🠚The way the mystery of her parents is gradually revealed is excellent. I liked the plot twist that they are both still alive.
🠚That cliffhanger was unexpected and well done.

<< Negatives >>
🠚No map. Not a huge issue but I like these as they always indicate where places are and help me imagine distances.
🠚No indication of an era/time period or even number of years: the first war with the Noble Ones appears to be some time less than 40 years ago, based on the fact her parents had much to do with this, but there are no dates, months, years; nothing.
🠚Inconsistency of era via language: the Arogath kingdom’s coat of arms is a fleur-de-lys is often associated with the medieval times and a lot of how the characters talk is considered old-fashioned and proper but then Evalyn says things like “gee” (this may be euphemistic for Jesus which would not work in this fantasy context) or “sure as hell” which is very modern. I acknowledge this is a fantasy world and can be whatever people desire.
🠚Should hell even be used as an expression when the realm of the dead has its own name here (Elysium)? There could be a name for the more hellish part of Elysium.
🠚The Dark Mage Makdou should have been mentioned much earlier than it was, when it is revealed who she really is.
🠚A lot of the characters feel a little too willing to help. There is no tension created here. The only character that was not willing to help at first was Sofia but she very quickly changes her mind when she discovers Evalyn is pregnant.
🠚Surprised about the moment when Felix first kisses Evalyn. It is hardly very romantic!
🠚Everyone seems to know who Evalyn is by sight, from the Orcs to the High Elves. But surely this would not always be the case.
🠚Evalyn distrusts Laurent – “Something about the man terrified me. Perhaps the chill tone to his voice. Why would Aneirin trust him?” – but I feel this observation does nothing in terms of moving the plot on except to make the reader consider him suspicious for a moment. But he does nothing else to cause suspicion and I really feel more could have been done with this idea.
🠚I feel like when Felix is missing, Evalyn does not act as panicked as others would. She sends her men to look for him and does not go herself.
🠚The Elementals all essentially disappear after that ambush. Why is this the case? Should they not have come to help at Southkeep?

CHARACTERS
-ˋˏ ꒰ Evalyn꒱ ˎˊ-
↳ I generally liked her character arc, but I wished she was a bit stronger as a character in some moments (like when her men are starting to follow her father and not her).
🠚The person she becomes by the end of the book is so beautifully dangerous (broken yet stronger and more bitter from all that has happened) that it will be interesting to see how she goes from here. I think this transformation was an incredible thing.
“It is my duty, and I am glad a sliver of happiness still prevails. Even in the darkest of times.”

-ˋˏ ꒰ Felix꒱ ˎˊ-
↳ One of the better parts and characters of the book. He is everything you could possibly want in a book boyfriend, honestly. He says and does all the right things, and will literally protect attack and love you right back!
🠚All the moments with and descriptions of Felix are very vivid I can tell Angell must have really enjoyed writing them. There is a whole paragraph just dedicated to his looks: “ He remained still for a few moments before lifting his helmet from his head. Handfuls of dark brown hair fell around his face in a tousled mess. He flattened the mane with the palms of his hands. His hazel eyes glimmered in the firelight, and a thin scar ran down the left side of his face from his high cheekbone into a fine layer of stubble. He prodded the fire with a crooked stick he’d kept to one side and peered at me… There was something beautiful about him. I’d always thought his scar told a story like the dents and scratches on his helmet. There was something mysterious about him.
🠚How did he get his scar? I need more details!
🠚*Those* two scenes were just dayum! So good! I mean “What are you doing? “Taking what’s mine.” come onnn! Amazing!
“While it is my sworn duty to protect you, I fear you are now in possession of my heart and mind.” He grinned. “Nothing will keep me away. I am yours as much as you are mine.”

FAV QUOTES
The way he looked at me, as if I were the only person in his world, would be enough to bring any woman to her knees.
• In the wake of my magic, a coolness spread through me. And hope, I realised.
• “Trust me, it was never a question of whether I was interested in you. I’ve always found you interesting, and not because you are royal. In fact, you are interesting for a whole host of other reasons. The way you watch the sunset when you think no one is looking, how you frown when you concentrate. And most of all, your compassion and willingness to be better than those who ruled before you.
• My name on his lips was like velvet. Soft, irresistible. Inviting. Everything about him drew me in.
“You live in my dreams, and in my thoughts.” He closed the space between us and brought his lips to my ears. His next words were a soft purr. “You consume me.”
• “You’re mine,” he muttered against my flesh. “Say it.”
They were terrifying creatures, but to win this war against the Dark Triads, we needed a little evil ourselves.
• I reflected on how my life had progressed over the last few months. I’d experienced every possible emotion. Pain, anger, fear, grief, passion, love, familiarity. How could so much light and dark coexist within my mind at one given time?
• The sunlight poured in through the coloured glass of the Citadel, caressing my cheeks with its light glow. I smiled, beginning to appreciate the things I’d taken for granted. I’d jump out of bed every morning and dash towards the window, expecting the sun to be in the sky, as beautiful as ever, and I wouldn’t think twice about it.
• He took me in his arms, and as we glided around the room and everything else fell away. We were now cocooned by our own love. No one else mattered in that moment. It was a moment of happiness, something we shared little of during the war. Forced together during the darkest era this realm had struggled through, a bond developed.

Fast paced fantasy adventure, with a slow burn romance, lots of dire stakes, magic, and dark fantasy elements.
Evalyn endures so much in a short time, she's thrust into danger from invading orc forces, chaos from dark mages, and confusion from secrets, prophecies and controlling her own volatile magic.
Felix, her loyal bodyguard is by her side protecting her as she develops her magic to protect the kingdom and rule as Queen, and they grow closer.
Loved the range of magical creatures, elementals and creative spells.
There is lots of action, shocking twists and betrayals, and I didn't expect the shocking ending! Looking forward to seeing what happens in book 2, and the path Evalyn takes.

"I keep telling myself that I am your guard. Your protector. And I will do whatever it takes to keep you safe. My sword-my life-is yours, should you need it"

"You live in my dreams, and in my thoughts... You consume me"

"God's, I've wanted you...and you might be the death of me, Evalyn"

"Nothing will keep me away. I am yours as you are mine"

Tropes:

Where do I start? Crimson Kiss is told from the first person narrative of Evalyn, Queen of the Realm. The Realm is under attack by dark mages and orcs and Evalyn, a light mage, is on a quest to save her peoples and land. Can Evalyn and the friends she makes along the way destroy the darkness threatening to take over, or will it be too late?

The first half of this book was a little slow for me but man did it pick up! The second half I couldn't put down and that cliffhanger ending left me in shock. I need book 2 like now lol. Evalyn is a true Queen, putting aside her heart's desires when it's the most difficult in the needs of her people. I like her. I also liked Felix and I wanted more of the two of them but dang war got in the way! Felix is the "I'll do anything for you" type of guy. He has her back. But I think my favorite character was good-Orc Zurek. I dont know what drew me t0 him but I just find him so loveable. Maybe I'm picturing Shrek ROFL.

I thought this was a great debut novel and first in a series. The story was well thought out. The characters were engaging and fun to read about. It's written in first person from Evalyn's POV. I enjoyed that she was a Mage and there were other creatures living in her realm harmoniously. Orcs and dark Mages excluded. I think my favourite character was Felix the guard. He was kind and sweet. The ending was very unexpected! I recommend this and look forward to reading the next installment.

A mage. A knight. A destiny…

Thank you Jodie with the opportunity to read an ARC of this book for you! This was a great debut novel and introduction to the Ancient Spells Trilogy. Crimson Kiss centers around Evalyn, the new heir to the throne of Arogath, as she navigates learning to master her power and her ability to rule. The book is very fast paced and a quick read. There is a bodyguard romance in this book but the story really centers on Evalyn’s journey to save her kingdom from the Orcs and darkness threatening it. This was an action-packed story of mastering your power and embracing your destiny. The ending definitely had me shocked and I can’t wait to read the next part of Evalyn’s journey in the second book!

✨️My Thoughts ✨️
A mage. A knight. A destiny...
This was a very fast-paced and quick read for me. It is a fantasy body guard romance (it does have some spice) with a lot of action/adventure packed in. The world building was interesting and very detailed!! You will meet all the mythical creatures and beings and see their talents/traits of how they survived. There are a ALOT of twists and turns and secrets revealed in this book. My favorite part was honestly seeing how all the plot twists played out. It really kept me on my feet. It does end on a cliffhanger, so be prepared.. you'll want book 2 immediately.

Crimson Kiss by Jodie Angell
4 Stars
🌟🌟🌟🌟

Short Synopsis: Evalyn must return the balance between light and dark.

Honestly this was such a fun time! I loved following Evalyn’s journey, and learning about the land.

🧝‍♀️Things I liked: 🧝‍♀️
✨ I really liked Evalyn and she seemed super mature for her age, and took on her roll very well. Usually you see people in these situations just very doubtful and timid, but not Evalyn, she did a rocking job!!
✨ I loved learning about all the Elementals, that was so cool!
✨ There were a lot of twists I didn’t see coming so that was quite fun!
✨ I really liked Sofia and Xurek!

🧌Things I didn’t like:🧌
✨ Sometimes things just moved too fast for me. Like there was almost no build up for anything, which makes it nice to never get bored, but sometimes I feel like we needed that build up to feel the tension. Especially with the romance, I didn’t really connect to the romance, because it just felt so sudden! As well as the war, there was such little build up and suspense that it was like missing a factor for me.

Regardless of the fast pace of the book, I really enjoyed Evalyns story and journey, and the way the book left off woooooo boy i can’t wait to pick up the next book 🤩

Thank you so much to Jodie Angell for an advanced copy of the book 💛💛

This follows Evalyn, Princess of Arogath and heir to her uncle King Atticus. She is a mage passed down by her mother and has to leave suddenly when Orcs come to get the one regarding a prophecy to stop this prophesied one, which happens to be Evalyn. So, she leaves with a guard named Felix to find the Oracle who could help her learn to harness her magic and stop the Orcs and Dark Mages and fulfill the prophecy.

This is a fast paced book, and such a large world filled with so many mythical beings and creatures. I loved reading about all these unique creatures! I always love reading books that have unique mythical creatures. There’s also a lot of twists and secrets that are revealed keeping you on the edge of your seat!

The reason I gave this 3 stars, though, is because it was a little too fast-paced for me. One scene would change to another really fast, and I felt like some parts of the book really lacked detail, at least for me. Things would escalate suddenly really fast too and I just sometimes felt like “wait what just happened?” 😅

That being said, it's a unique fantasy read, and if you love fantasy, you should check it out!

I received a free digital copy to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This story is a treasure for fantasy fans. It has spells, conspiracies, adventure, battles and lots of twists. It really keeps you in suspense and is read in one breath.

The world Jodie Angell made is a world of elves, humans, gnomes, light and dark mages, orcs and elementals. I was amazed by the beauty of Nereids and Sylphs. The descriptions are so vivid. You can smell the sweet, floral scents of hyacinths and lilacs in the town of Eyrie, the woody scent of pine resin in the forest and you almost can feel the wind rippled the water of a pond, distorting the reflection of the forest.
But this beautiful world is in danger.. Revenge must be taken and a prophecy fulfilled.. But at what cost? Not the Crimson Kiss spell, no not that spell..

I very seldom give 5 stars to a book I review. I thoroughly enjoyed this fascinating world with so many diverse characters and creatures. I want the rest of the books in this trilogy.

Evalyn encounters many people and creatures on her journey to save her realm. The twists, turns, characters, and creatures, mold Evalyn into who she needs to become until evil rears its ugly head and creates heartbreaking sorrow. What Evalyn does then affects everyone and the realm.

Now I have to wait until the next book comes out to continue on this journey with Evalyn.

I highly recommend this book. You will not be disappointed except waiting for the next book to continue with the story.

This was a beautifully written fantasy with a fascinating cast of characters and a heartbreaking and thrilling cliffhanger ending that had me on the edge of my seat. The author has created a rich, immersive world and an intriguing plot for her characters - Evalyn in particular was complex, sympathetic and well-rounded. I loved the touch of romance as well and I can’t wait for the next in the trilogy. I can also see this being turned into a film one day!

The Crimson Kiss is a super fast paced, bodyguard romantasy featuring a huge range of magical creatures, prophecies and an apocalypse created by the Four Horseman (retelling).

I did enjoy this book, however I do wish there was a bit more details for things. Sometimes it was slightly too fast paced and I had to keep going back to remind myself of what was happening, as scenes changed so quickly. The book has so many amazing elements inside, so some more details would have really helped enhance the story further.

I adore Evalyn and Felix, but would have liked to see more of their romance and it developing. Again, the super fast pace meant some of the romance elements were lost.

The twist and turns throughout the book did have me hooked, and the ending was shocking. Some distressing scenes which may be hard for some readers - but key to the plot and set up the next book nicely, and I'm intrigued to we what Evalyn does next. Again, another twist that shocked me massively!

This book was absolutely amazing and definitely worth the read. The fast pace of the story makes every plot trust less and less easy to expect, so it’s nice to not be able to guess what is going to happen next in the story. Although the book is relatively short, it carries a lot of information which the author eases you into so you’re not just bombarded by lots of facts that you can’t remember all at once.
It has a fierce FMC who has a compassionate heart and who would fight for her kingdom.
This book is great for any fantasy readers out there who like their books with a bit of romance. It is a fast read and contains many mythical creatures many people haven’t actually heard of or read about in books as they aren’t usually mentioned. This is very unique to the book.
I would definitely recommend this book if you’re looking for a short, fast paced book to read.

This book is absolutely amazing and a brilliant read for any fantasy lovers out there who love just a hint of romance.

It's a fairly fast paced, and short book. The longer chapters allow you to get stuck into the world quicker. The detail placed into the novel is just out of this world. This book is very unique in the fact that it has many different mythical creatures in it. Some of which I hadn't even heard of before. But the author is very detailed in her explanation of these creatures and their roles in the plot.

The FMC is a compassionate and strong leader who will stop at nothing to fight for what she believes in and for her kingdom. And the MMC is just so cute!! He would do anything to protect his Queen.

It's definitely a must-read. And I can't wait to read the next book.
Thank you, Jodie, for giving me the opportunity to read this book as an ARC.

What a read! Hats off to you, Jodie.
He falls first bodyguard, she comes into powers she needs to learn to control, magical war, politics, the four horsemen reimagined...what more could you possibly need?

The FMC has been put through her paces growing up, her mother kidnapped, and her father died. Through a stroke of fate, she ends up having to rule a kingdom just as it enters a massive political war with the Orcs and Dark Mages. All this whilst trying to come to terms with her suppressed magic.

The MMC is her bodyguard. He falls first, and she doesn't realise. He is low-key, a cinnamon roll with a dash of morally grey.

The plot had me in a chokehold throughout.

Warning, though, make sure you read the triggers as there are some sensitive topics.

I loved this. I can't wait for book 2.

Orcs, Mages, Elves, Demons - any mythical being you can think of, it’s probably in the world that Crimson Kiss is set in. Evalyn, the queen of Aragoth is faced with a war against the darkness where Dark Mages and Orcs dwell, but the darkness is advancing on the realm bringing disorder and chaos.

This novel is fast paced with shocks and plot twists at every turn. I loved how the world building was included from the main character’s travels, it makes it so fun to feel like you’re really on the journey with the characters. There were moments where my heartstrings were being pulled and moments where I was gasping at how the plot was unravelling! The cliffhanger at the end of this novel is a perfect set up to launch straight into book two when it’s released!

If you’re looking for a bodyguard Romance turned fantasy, with action and a little spice, then this novel is it!

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

I enjoyed this book and its cast of magical and human characters. Instead of having all the magical creatures at odds with one another, I loved that they worked together against the evil magical creatures. I’m always a sucker for forced proximity and loved Evelyn and Felix.

That said, there was a pacing issue, and fleshing out of many of the scenes would have helped keep the book from feeling rushed. Instead of months, the over all feeling was that the war was started and over within days.

I will still be checking out the second book in the series, as I am still curious how everything will be resolved despite the pacing of book one.

Thank you to Jodie for providing a copy of Crimson Kiss in exchange for my honest review.

Crimson Kiss is a fast paced, action packed fantasy romance. Even with the fast paced style of Jodie, the world building is completely well done, I never felt lost, just the opposite, I was running along the MCs while their world turned upside down.

I loved all the characters that were appearing along the way, the bond that formed between all of them was very "found family". I wish I had more time getting to know each of the different characters and their magic, but I think that the circumstances of this book was only focused in saving their world and protecting the FMC.

That ending should be illegal! I was completely shocked and heartbroken!! So Jodie please I need book 2 like NOW!

Thank you for the opportunity to read this as an ARC!

3.5⭐️ rounded up

This book moves fast! Evalyn & Felix travel their realm a number of times, first for the princess to learn how to wield her magic, and later to rally support in her fight to save her kingdom. As she does so, she proves to be a badass ruler! Her devoted knight Felix is such a cinnamon roll who protects her every step of the way as she grows into her role of ruler, and while there is romance, this book was definitely a strong fantasy first.

I enjoyed following Evalyn & Felix on their journey, but the speed of the events did feel like I didn't have time to fully feel all the emotions that went alongside them. Also, the book does end on a cliffhanger - so be warned!

Looking forward to see how things unfold in book 2!

Thank you to Jodie Angell for extending a digital copy to me. This review holds my honest opinions.

There is a big possibility that i stayed up late reading this book because I could not put it down. Crimson Kiss does not start off slow in the slightest. You're kind of thrust into the big story plot early on and then the adventures do not stop. I'm guessing that's how I ended up hooked almost immediately. I really enjoyed experiencing the various personalities of multiple characters, whether they were main or side characters. The end had me in tears and I really want to read the next book to see where this journey takes the FMC, Evalyn. If you're looking for a fantasy book with lots of adventure with a decent pace, this book is for you.

Okay, so this lady has some serious talent and an amazing imagination! A great book if you wanna dip your toes (or take the plunge) into the world of fantasy!

The storyline for Crimson Kiss was great and really unique, and the different places in the story were amazingly described.

It had a tiny touch of romance, and those scenes were well written which made them feel real and compelling. (Very vanilla to what I'm used to reading, but that was so refreshing!)

The world is complex, and has an amazing magical system with many different factions and their homes. Each brilliantly described.

However, I gave this only 3 stars because the pace of the storytelling was just too fast for me to keep up. I often found myself getting confused as one scene escalated into another without much flow for it. And because of how fast paced it was, I personally, struggled to connect with the characters, which made it difficult for me to finish.

But I'm glad I did, because the twist at the end was great! Definitely keeping an eye out for the next book!

Thanks for the opportunity to read it ♥️

A fantasy book filled with vivid descriptions and many magical creatures, Crimson Kiss is a romantasy lovers dream.

Evalyn, the last of her family to survive and her trusted bodyguard, Felix are two characters on the run. Their dynamics are SO good, the banter is there and the passion is well built. Light spice was perfect for this, and allows me to recommend to everyone. This is the perfect book to start non fantasy readers in, it hooks you very quickly.

Looking forward to the next installments! Thank you to @jodieangell_author and @bookbaeprfor the chance to read!

I am so sorry, I hate leaving low reviews, I really do but I just super struggled with the pacing of this book
The premise behind it - amazing.
I just couldn’t get along with the actual pacing of it.
I got 6 chapters in and soooo much had happened already and so much information was given it just overwhelmed me personally.
I have seen other reviews saying how amazing it is, and I am absolutely sure it is but for me I just couldn’t with the pacing. I am so so sorry.

3.5/5⭐️ short review:
The Crimson Kiss is a fast paced, action packed fantasy Novel, that follows Evalyn and her companies, as they try to win the war against the Orc‘s and save their kingdom and people.
I enjoyed the storyline of the book which centers around winning the brutal war, that demands a lot of innocent victims and a prophecy that yet still needs to be fulfilled.
The book offers a lot of unexpected twists and turns and is therefore an rather exciting read.
All characters are interesting and very likable.
The romance is not the main part of the story, but more a side story which plays a major role for the prophecy.

Thank you to the Author for providing this ARC! 🫶🏼

Immerse yourself in this fast paced Bodyguard Romantasy, Crimson Kiss, the first book in The Ancient Spells Trilogy.

This debut novel is an enchanting adventure following Evalyn, the last surviving heir to the kingdom of Arogath and her trusty protector Felix and their journey of discoveries.  Although I thought there could have been more world building, the storyline, character imagination and development along with plot twists/surprises were wonderfully creative.

This novel has adventure, romance, wit, humour, magic, an array of fascinating creatures and a little bit of spice, something for everyone.

Thank you to the author Jodie Angell for the chance to read this arc.

Many thanks to the author for a gifted copy of this book! When Jodie was offering copies, I of course jumped on the chance to check it out and I was not sorry!

Crimson Kiss grabs you from the first sentence and even when I thought I knew where it was going, I was pretty much wrong. You read enough fantasy and you trust no one! I was pleasantly surprised at how wrong I was though it's a first in a trilogy, there's time. I thought the characters were interesting though Evalyn reads a little young which can be annoying. But overall, it's action packed and will keep you guessing. Looking forward to seeing the next installment!

Wow, I am literally lost for words! What a brilliant book, I really enjoyed following Evalyn through all her trials and tribulations. The way Jodie has written this book, made me feel every ounce of emotions that Evalyn went through, especially towards the end 😢 I also want to thank Jodie, for the ARC copy of this book and I certainly look forward to reading part 2!!!!
