Ralph Can Cry (So Can I!) is a needed, important, heartfelt, relatable, and lesson-filled read! This lovely book focuses on emotional and mental well-being by addressing a common stereotype. It encourages emotional expression by assuring children it is okay to feel all their emotions. Crying does not make someone weak or "girly". This book not only drives this point home, but tells children crying is actually healthy and will help them feel better when they are upset. I loved this! I also appreciated the way this book addressed the gender stereotypes. This messaging is very needed. I truly enjoyed this book!
People don’t realize when they make comments like Boys can’t cry or You’re crying like a girl to little kids that they are leaving a lasting impression and promoting a gender specific limiting belief. The author has done a great job of showing this big flaw of the society using a little boy Ralph’s story and how he overcomes this belief by getting support and words of wisdom from his father. A good book to read to your kids!
A lovely simple story of a boy who gets hurt at school and cries. The other children laugh as they feel boys shouldn't cry. The boys dad explains that both boys and girls can cry and it is healthy to cry, it can make you feel better too. Next time the boy cries and his friends laugh the boy explains this and they see it a different way. Simple illustrations to accompany the text. My daughter is 6 and gave it 4 stars. My daughter
This book encourages kids to share their emotions. Oftentimes, adults carry the notion that only the strong survive and it’s never good to demonstrate vulnerability by crying. This line of thinking passes on to the younger generation, and it’s a recipe for children not being able to deal with their problems. I was pleasantly surprised by the book’s attractive illustrations. A great lesson for kids to share their feelings!
This book gently teaches children that expressing emotions, such as sadness, is acceptable for boys and everyone. It could challenge traditional gender stereotypes that discourage boys from crying and help children develop healthy ways to cope with sadness. It helps children understand and accept their feelings.
The story is vibrant and very unique, i am sure there are boys and kids who hold their cry cause they think it is bad to cry or smth but IT IS COMPLETELY NATURAL so yeah :3
I loved the message and story! It really shows young boys at an early age that it is okay to cry if you need to cry. I liked how the dad also reinforced the message to his son too and gave his the courage to stand up to his friends!
This is a good message for little boys growing up in the “boys can’t cry” era. It’s very simple with a story that’s direct and to the point, which is boys can cry just like girls can cry. Crying is healthy.
