I didn't realize this was a companion book to the original GAPS, but I still found it very helpful. Between this book, online resources and Pinterest infographics, I think I understand this enough to try it. As a recently diagnosed Cealic, I'm hoping GAPS will help heal my gut and make me feel normal again.
I put my girlfriend on gaps because she had pretty severe diarhea. I did not really expect it to heal her mental problems. (And she has quite a lot of those). She followed this diet religiously for 2 months. 2 months of eating primarily broth. And not only did her diarhea not get any weaker it only got worse. Additionally her other health problems got worse too.
I guess this diet might work for some. And some proponents might say that my girlfriend was simply not long enough on this diet. But she just couldn't stomach 2 more years of eating mainly broth.
At first I wanted to be on this diet with my girlfriend. Because I experimented with a lot of extreme diets. (I was fruitarian for 3 years. ). My girlfriend actually liked the taste of broth and of the other dishes in here. But they were just disgusting for me and I simply couldn't follow it.
It's not a bad book though. It explains it clearly. I encourage you to give it a try. I still make my own yoghurt at home after reading this book. So I guess it did impact my life in some way.
But I eat the yoghurt with fruit and chia seeds and flaxseeds. (For some reason GAPS people claim that omega-3 fatty acids are bad. Which I simply do not agree with)
Excellent guide to navigating all the changes in making dietary changes in the GAPS diet. It breaks things down into small manageable steps, and helps to reduce the sense of overwhelm one can feel when making these big changes in their dietary habits.
This book was very helpful. I actually found out I have histamine intolerance from following this diet- bone broth is high in histamine. Start the exclusion diet on meat and veg broth instead!
